Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz is a city on the north coast of Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. It’s known for its dark, volcanic-sand beaches and the huge Loro Parque zoo, which lies to the west. On the seafront, Lago Martiánez is a saltwater pool complex designed by architect César Manrique. The old harbor is home to a 17th-century customs house and Batería de Santa Bárbara, a crumbling 18th-century fort.

I recently had the chance to visit Loro Parque in Tenerife, and I have to say—it completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment we walked in, it was clear this wasn’t just another zoo; it’s a beautifully maintained, world-class conservation park that truly cares about the animals and the visitor experience. It’s absolutely worth arriving right when the park opens. The early hours are quieter, cooler, and give you a head start on the most popular attractions and shows before the crowds arrive. We managed to enjoy a peaceful stroll through the park and even caught the first show of the day with no lines.
Amazing Day at Loro Parque! Loro Parque is absolutely incredible – a must-visit! There’s so much to see and do, and the animals are clearly very well cared for. The enclosures are spacious, beautifully designed, and give you great views without ever feeling overcrowded for the animals. Everything felt clean, organised, and really well maintained. The dolphin and orca shows were a real highlight – absolutely amazing and definitely a must-see while you’re there. They were professional, fun, and showed off the animals’ intelligence and beauty in such a memorable way. There’s plenty to keep you entertained all day, from the variety of animals to the shows and the little details around the park that make it special. The only downside is that food on site is a bit pricey – but that’s the same in most attractions and didn’t take away from how fantastic the experience was. Overall, a beautiful park, well worth the visit, and somewhere I’d happily return to again!
Got tickets online earlier as they're discounted, easy to park in their nice underground car park (7 euro). Well worth a visit, clean, accessible, plenty of clean toilets and food outlets which were reasonably priced. It's very clear that your entrance fee and any profits go towards animal welfare and conservation, which is great to know. Get to the Orca, sea lion and dolphin shows early for the beat seats, avoid the front if you want to stay dry, but that's part of the fun. Sea lions were our favourite 🦭. The fish tank displays are brilliant and absolutely massive! 🐟 🐠 The gardens and fauna are amazing! 🌟 ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 🦭🐬👏👏👏👏
My husband and I loves animals and we arrived 2:30 before closing and we made the best out of it. We saw almost everything but had to be fast. Well maintained and a lot a variety. The aquarium tube is fantastic. A must attractions on the island, no wonder they is pub all over the place.
Loro Parque is very unique. To call it a zoo would not do it justice. You can tell as you walk through the park that the staff really care about the place. They are constantly cleaning and maintaining the grounds, and the interactions with the animals at the shows are really impressive. You can tell there is a lot of trust between the handlers and their animal coworkers. Beyond that, the rare and endangered animals they have are too many to list. My wife and I had a great time and even made friends with a beautiful Pasquels Parrot. Highly recommend visiting! I recommend at least 5 hours to see everything, and bring good walking shoes as there are slopes and slippery sections.
Loro Parque is an exceptional experience, and exceeded our expectations. We attended all the shows and each show showed us the true beauties of these animals. We also got the beautiful feeling that each and every staff really love and care for these animals and it adds to the beauty of the experience. The whole park is exceptionally well kept and when you read around the park and listen to all the information when attending the shows, you realise how much the park really does and it makes you really appreciate the experience even more. We actually spent 6+ hours here and we still felt we could of stayed longer. We visited the Orca show twice as we needed to get splashed 😆 🤣. My favourite show was the Sea Lions but that's not to say that the Dolphins, Parrots & Orca's weren't worth the watch even if you want to watch them twice lol.
This place is definitely worth a visit! It’s interesting for everyone — from small kids to adults. The penguins are a must-see! Go up to the top of the Amazon section to take photos with the colourful parrots — it’s very impressive. There are plenty of shaded areas and spots to take a break, as well as a nice playground for kids. One of the most beautiful zoos I’ve ever seen!
Park that worth visiting. Many attractions for all ages. Orca, dolphin and sea lions show are great. Get ready to get wet when watching Orcas! Beautiful, well kept grounds with areas to relax. Food available on premises but very limited options. Animals kept in Loro Park look very happy and well cared for. Workers and trainers are happy to answer questions, there is no swimming with dolphins or orcas

Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Aquatic zone area with saltwater & freshwater pools with dramatic fountains & rentable sun loungers.
Slide 1 of 8
A beautifully clean and well-organised facility. Reasonably quiet on a Mon PM (11/08). Plenty of sunloungers were available. Excellent value for money at 7EUR per person. No criticisms whatsoever.
It looks really nice, not too expensive and not too crawed. But, water is freezing cold. There are like thousands of people outside of the pool and 20 mazohists (or Eskimos?) in the pool. Shallow standing water, I expected it to be warmer than the ocean, but it's not. If you don't mind cold water then it's perfect for you.
This an honest review, in my opinion. The place looks well maintained. The price is €7 euros per adult and €3 for umbrella rental. There is a bar for drinks and a small on-site restaurant resterante Lago. I noticed a free lending library just at the entrance, too. Unfortunately when we went the changing facilities were closed as far as I could tell. So maybe wise to come prepared. Its fresh salt water pools fed from the sea.
Arrived and they had decided to close the pools without notice at 1.30pm. Apparently because it was a little windy!! The people already there weren’t not told to leave for their safety. Nothing was blowing around in there or anything! Sun beds still in place, nothing!! Absolute idiots ruining peoples holiday plans!!! If it’s for safety they evacuate the entire complex!! They’re just lazy!
Wonderful place to spend the day, you need to pay for entrance but it doesn’t cost much. Very clean and well prepared with changing rooms and cold showers. It would be better with warm water in the shower.
Little bit disappointed that the big pool has been closed since May. But other pools were open. Was still a great deal. When you get in, drinks and food are good and reasonably priced.
€7 entry each and €3 per umbrella. Really nice place to visit with multiple different pools to swim in. Lots of loungers so didn't struggle to find somewhere to sit. Outside space and bathrooms well maintained and kept very clean. Small shop you can buy snacks/drinks at, but limited on options available. Restaurant was ok, but not too expensive- lots of choice for food (we had sandwiches which were nice). Only downside really is it says you can't take your own food in (though a few people in front of us in the queue had cool boxes and didn't get stopped so don't know how strict they are on this!). Would visit again.
Nice place to spend time, we were there from 11 AM to 6 PM. Right by the sea, so you can watch the waves hit the rocks. But there were a few problems. -🎟 There isn't online ticketing, which means you're waiting in line in the sun to get in. -🌂 Our sun umbrella had disappeared when we returned from swimming. We explained this to the person handing out the umbrellas, but he said we had to rent another one instead just handing a second one out. Not customer friendly. -⌛️ At one of the restaurants, we had to wait a long time to pay because the waiter just disappeared. We ended up paying at the counter, as we had waited at least half an hour. They were either understaffed, or the waiter wasn't attentive. Furthermore, they could put signs up to explain why some of the sections are cordoned off. Instead, the life guards blow their whistle and tell people to move away from the sea walls every 20 mins or so. A nice place, and a little bit more effort in terms of infrastructure would make it in to a great Nice place to spend time, but there were 3 problems. -🎟 There isn't online ticketing, which means you're waiting in line in the sun to get in. -🌂 Our sun umbrella had disappeared when we returned from swimming. Such a beautiful place! 🌺🪴 The garden is full of amazing plants, from huge tropical leaves to colorful flowers and water lilies. It feels very peaceful and relaxing to walk around, and you can really take your time just enjoying. I even spotted a bright red dragonfly, which made the visit feel even more special. Perfect spot to escape the busy tourist areas for a while 😉 Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Tenerife!
This was a lovely cool oasis on a hot day. A great selection of trees and plants, the online map and plant ID guide was great for the ID of key specimens. Plenty of people there, but did not feel busy. Lots of benches to enjoy the shade and bird life. Highly recommended.
Absolutely amazing and fascinating place, well worth the €3 euros each. Spent about 2 hours pottering about. If you love plants and wildlife I'd recommend it so highly one of the best things we did all week. The man on the desk was super helpful too, despite us being sleep deprived and speaking zero Spanish, he was able to help us find a taxi rank and number. I'm sure we looked like fools haha!
The Botanical Garden serves as a tranquil sanctuary, offering visitors a considerable respite from the coastal heat and humidity. For an entrance fee of just 3 euros, guests can explore the winding pathways and admire a lush and diverse collection of flora, some of which are truly exceptional. There are a lot of strategically placed benches throughout the park for relaxation. Visitors planning their journey should be aware that the inland distance from the coast results in significantly higher temperatures, making walking to the location strenuous (at least for us it was 😅)
A bit small but very beautiful. Great selection of tropical plants. Whatever grows in my home is twenty times bigger in this place. We spend over two hours hiding from the heat. Very recommended.
3 euros per person to enter!! Well worth a visit and every penny paid! Loved the tropical feel , beautifully maintained! Toilets immaculate, free to enter!
Went here with family friends and I must say this is one of the most exotic parks I've been too. So many plants from different parts of the world organised in such a beautiful way. This definitely takes some studying to be able to manage this ecosystem. The place is more like a 30 min- 1 hour stroll. Its big but not thay big so keep that in mind. Even though the place is hot on the outside of the park, the inside is cool due to the shade of the trees. Free toilets upon paying a 2 Euro fee for locals, free for university students and kids under 8. I uploaded many pics so that they speak for the park.
A truly fabulous place. Lots of interesting plants, Koi Carp in the pond and a bargain at €3 per person. Slight criticism, the cashier at the desk very a very miserable man!

Enjoyed this place twice while staying nearby, only one with large tapas menu in neighbourhood that we managed to find, was good way of trying new food without splashing too much money and then not liking it. Large selection of drinks too. One cocktail was a bit awkward, like smoothie like, served in milk bottle, that's placed in paper bag. Wasn't enjoying it as much as I expected. Nice, friendly staff. Good view to the park area and also people watching
Always good service and tasty food. Great to have some live music to listen too as well. And the chance to have a dance too
Highly, highly recommended. This restaurant is an absolute must if you are visiting Puerto de la Cruz. We visited twice and each time experienced 5 star service, excellent and perfectly presented food and live entertainment in a league of it's own.
If you are a smoker coming for drinks and a great location then this is your place. If you want service that is patient, quality food and eating without the taste and smell of smoke then you will find better alternatives. I an pretty sure smoking is banned on terraces at bars and restaurants in the Canaries but maybe this changed and it is too bad. Combined with a poor dish I can't recommend this place
We ended up here casually and we really enjoyed the food and the service, we ordered the set menu which have a very good portions and was very tasty too.
The food was superb. We have eaten here twice. First time I had fillet steak and it came with two steaks the second we shared tapas. The service is great and they speak English and make you feel comfortable.
Beautiful looking place with live music. But it’s too expensive for what you get. We had paella which wasn’t good (paid over 25 euros for 2ppl), it was too wet and didn’t taste much anything else but sea. I’d say this was a total disappointment. And something good to say: Before we got the paella we got some crackers and some local cheese and it was really good and also the bread they serve before food!
Went for tapas, and my word what a little find this was. Cheap dishes, lovely staff and an encyclopedia for a cocktail menu. The seabass bites were so good we ordered them twice. Oh, and there was a live guitarist and band to finish it all off - bangin'.
