Very special place, especially with kids, they loved it, very entertaining, although a bit pricy. Go there during the morning for quicker access.
Unusual small chapel with masterly cocteau chalk drawings. It requires only a quick visit in what can be cramped surrounds if there is a group there at the same time. Why though, why, this strange obsession to prohibit taking photos?
The worst welcome in the world. This is not a Chapel as the prison guard TOLD us. Ita galerie whit a fee to enter. Not worth it. Go else where.
Very nice place to walk and visit while visiting the Dock. Some really colourful exhibitions and a good stroll up a hill and to the Fort. A meeting point for excursions to Monaco 🇲🇨 and Nice before going back to a boat. They're is a figurine museum, an art museum and a historical museum from the era of the second world War. There were also public toilet at the top of the hill. Also some public turrets to look out from to see the view of the sea.
A vey nice and historic visit. Proceeds go to fishermen’s retirement fund.
So beautiful inside, mesmerising... open until 6pm. Strictly no photos inside. Entry fee is €3. Small space but totally worth a visit.
Amazing location , beautiful view. .I would highly recommend it.

Came here in March. It was not busy as nit summer but good weather. Beach is sandy in most parts. Has toilets dotted across the beach. Clear blue waters. Beautiful
A beautiful sandy beach open for the public. The train station is immediately above the beach so there is a good and fast public transport to the location. There are also quite a few bars, restaurants and beach bars around, though there is not a market place in sight. We went there in the afternoon and the water was very dirty, maybe it was due to the sea currents, not sure.
Quiet beach compared to the main sand strip in the area. Self cleaning toilet close by, two showers and huge parking area. Water was clean and calm, very relaxing with few people around.
Great beach with a mix of sand and pebbles, mostly public and refreshingly free from pushy sunbed vendors. It’s fairly small and can get crowded, but when we visited, there was plenty of space. The crystal-clear water is perfect for snorkeling - just watch out, as I did get nipped by a fish!
Clear water, sandy beach. Some buffet around to take drinks and food. You can rent paddle to enjoy Villefranche. Perfect location in SoF
Heaven on earth! What i personally loved was that the beach is little small pepples and not sand, some may not like this but it was a life saver as we went for a walk around the town after having a beach day and we wernt covered in sand, the small pepples washed off so easily and they are not uncomfortable, we sunbathed and were swimming in the water every 15-20 minutes. The water is as clear as glass and so warm! Lots if little fish around it is perfect for snorkelling! Will definately visit again!
A calm and peaceful beach, perfect for relaxing or a quiet swim. The area is clean and well maintained, with paid parking and toilets available nearby. Just be mindful of jellyfish (méduses) at certain times of the year. Overall, a lovely spot to unwind by the sea.
Nice beach, temperature was ok. Lots of people but doesn’t feel crowded.

The institute is an incredible experience and if you have the opportunity to study here you will spend your time in bliss. It’s an investment worth every penny. I went for one month in May and enjoyed beautiful weather in this gorgeous villa that houses an extraordinary garden full of flowers and a view of the sea. The food is just above and beyond - each day gorgeous plates for a three course lunch. You eat with other students and different teachers to have casual conversation in French to practice organically. I loved this aspect! The food service team is incredibly kind and thoughtful - always with a smile. Every teacher I met was interesting and completely committed to our language growth. But now onto the most important part - this is clearly the most immersive and impressive language school available, and to study French in the Cote d'Azur is spectacular. My teacher was Edith for Intermediate. She made every day an interesting and fun challenge keeping us completely engaged and enthralled with the language. She will demand your presence and her passion made us all improve! My class was dedicated to only speaking French, even during the coffee breaks in the garden between lessons. I met wonderful people and we had such a special group. Most important to me was the complete immersion aspect as well as it being an oral method. My French improved tremendously, especially my listening comprehension! This is a special experience I will cherish forever.
It's hard to put into words just how fabulous my experience at the Institut was. Pure joy is the simplest description. I feel incredibly privileged to have spent four weeks there and it ranks among my top 10 experiences of all time. The teaching team - especially Julien - was outstanding - combining passion, humour and energy to create an engaging and highly effective method that completely won me over. The entire Institut team (who are very present as a unit and individually throughout the 4 weeks) create a safe, joyful and supportive environment where you feel you can make mistakes, learn and move on. My French improved incredibly and gave me the building blocks & structure to continue to learn beyond my 4 weeks. On top of the excellent teachers and method, the environment and food are incredible. Sara and Anthony - two renowned chefs - cook delicious and nourishing 3 course meals every lunch and show up with the same passion, energy and enthusiasm as their teaching peers. And then the Institut and Villefranche - an incredibly beautiful haven and part of the world that I totally fell in love with. I cannot recommend it enough - I loved it so much that I'm heading back in 4 weeks. A once in a lifetime experience.
My month at L'Institut Francais was one of the best experiences of my life. The teachers are simply exceptional, their passion for the French language and culture is infectious, and their expertise shows in every lesson and they create a supportive atmosphere where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. My wonderful teacher Evelyn has to have a special mention, we all loved her and i will never forget her personal care and dedication that we all achieve the results we did. From day one, we were surrounded by French, and the techniques used encourage natural conversation and practical application, so we were actually able to very quickly think and communicate in French. The progress I made in such a short time was remarkable. The 3-course lunches provided were a celebration of delicious French cuisine, prepared with care from the wonderful Anthony and Sarah. Dining together was also an opportunity for immersion and cultural exchange with fellow students and teachers. The location Villefranche-sur-Mer is absolutely stunning, with the Institut set on the hillside with beautiful views that we had to photograph every single day. I cannot recommend L'Institut Français highly enough. If you're serious about learning French while having an incredible experience, this is the place.
An incredible school! I spent one month at L'Institut from November to December 2024, and it was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my entire year. The teachers are extremely charismatic, talented, and encouraging, and they put their all into the job. The views from L'Institut are spectacular, and the food is superb. The chef even prepared a delicious side-serving of frog legs on our last day, specifically because he found out that I loved them. Before attending L'Institut I hadn't studied French formally for 24 years, and by the end of the month I felt surprisingly at ease having intermediate-level conversations. I still have so much work to do before achieving fluency, but I feel like my time at this school was a crucial step towards that goal. I also loved meeting all my fellow classmates, many of whom were diplomats, governmental officials, academic researchers, and businessmen. As an artist, curator, and designer, I rarely have the opportunity to meet people in these professions, and I am grateful for all the unique connections I made. Highly recommended!
As a teacher myself I was truly inspired by the pedagogical approach and quality of teaching at the Institute de Francais. If you feel any fear about the vulnerability of being a beginner-adult or lack confidence in your French, the whole approach here is one that fosters safety, playfulness and a genuine commitment to your development. I attended as a beginner in April and not only learned to speak confidently in French, but laughed a lot, felt safe to fail and improve and met a great group of people. I can't recommend it highly enough.
I had an amazing experience at the institute. Having had virtually zero French knowledge prior, I came away after two weeks feeling much more confident with the language. The school itself is beautifully nested in a large garden and overlooks the gorgeous Villefranche-sur-mer bay. Their method is unorthodox but totally works; the teachers are knowledgeable and funny; the food is delicious; the course-mates are super interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the course and shall be back for more!
I had the most wonderful month. My teacher Evelyn was particularly good, but all the staff were terrific. The school was in a great location and I enjoyed meeting and socialising with so many interesting people. My French improved but in addition I really enjoyed the cultural side of life sur la Côte d'Azur!
I just finished my 4th time visiting the Institute. The professors are top notch and some of the best I've had in my life. Being able to interact with people from all over the world in a world class environment is second to none. Highly recommend!

The fort is closed on Sunday, but you can walk around the grounds and see the blinking light and cell phone tower that stands over Nice. There are nice views.
Wonderful drive up to the top of the mountain. There are plenty of spots to stop and get great pictures. There's a large parking lot nearby, save yourself from being towed away.
Nice views to both sides. Good excursion opportunity when sunshine is there. Unfortunately the fort was closed.
Stunning views both east and west. I recorde recommend walking from the Nice Port up to the fort and then down to Villefranche-sur-Mer. From there you can take the train back to N.
The view was something else. We didn't go inside the fortress as it was closed, but the view itself was enough for us to be amazed.
Superb octogonal fortress built at the top of the Mont Boron's hill 220 meters above sea level. It offers a superb panoramic view of the surroundings : the harbor of Villefranche-sur-Mer and the Italian borders on one side, the Bay of Nice and the Estérel on the other. In the middle of the 16th century, Nice was one of the essential points of the Savoy States Defense system in the face of Turkish invaders, allied with the French since 1543. The Rade de Villefranche-sur-Mer, because of its depth and sheltered situation, is the main commercial port of the region until the opening of the Port of Nice in the 18th century. It was also the Savoy War Port for four centuries. In 1557, the Fort du Mont-Alban was built on the orders of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoie. This massive work is designed as a complement to the fortresses of Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer, and to control their connection: north of Mont Boron, the Fort du Mont-Alban flanks the Citadel Saint-Elme and the Dars of Villefranche-sur-Mer built at the same time, and protects the west of the city.
Great views, the fort itself was closed but it was still worth visiting
Great views of Nice and the coast!!!

Recommend visiting! Beautiful gardens
Free admission and large collection of sculpture and paintings. Quite enjoyable.
It is a nice place to visit, we visited using the Hop on Hop off ( Nice le Grande Tour + Villefranche sur Mer - City Tour) 4 May 2025.
Fantastic little gem of a museum. Not to be missed!!
Really worth a visit and free! Stunning views of the bay.
I have visited many museums on Cote D'Azur (Matisse, Chagall (Nice), Picasso (Antibes) and this one of Volti has been by far the best. Small, intimate, with so much beauty and in a beautiful setting. Plus entrance free. Thank you!
Great sculptures, good alignment, exhibition for free, nice garden around the museum. Interesting for children and the can run outside
