We have got an experience of horse riding and afternoon tea and I'm left a bit confused afterwards.
To start with, all people who booked different experiences wait in one place, once most of the people were gone, I thought we might have missed something (it turns out we didn't but it was confusing).
Then our experience starts. The lady who did the introduction spoke about people's anxieties around horses - before that I hadn't even thought about being worried and then I started thinking. Another person in the group (a stranger to me) was affected in a similar way too, I mostly brushed it off but it made me think of the risks maybe a bit too much. Then, when they were getting the horses ready, it didn't look like they had control over the horses and they were hitting them and shouting at them to stay in place! I have not done horse riding since I was a child but I was shocked. Is that even ok to do?
Then some person turned up, said she has been once before and can assist (interrupting the process btw), so she joined our little group but it was her second time in the place! She wasn't a member of staff or anything like that and she didn't know where to go. She handled the horse well, whereas two other members of staff were young girls who didn't appear to have control of the horses, one of them was hitting the horse again (she said it doesn't hurt it but aren't there other behavioural techniques rather than hitting?). I'm not even sure if they are staff, volunteers or just assist with the experience in exchange of riding horses (as one if then mentioned that she comes to the place to ride). Obviously, the fact that the horses didn't appear to be controlled didn't make the experience worry free from me (and I need to repeat, I wasn't anxious about it prior).
At the end, we had the afternoon tea. Although it was nice to warm up and the cafe looked quite nice, the afternoon tea was disappointing for my liking. We could use unlimited drinks (which is positive) but they were all teabags and coffee sachets, with a note attached asking not to steal them 🙈 (yes, the word "steal" was used). The food was mostly ready bought things (pork pies, quiche, scones etc) which wasn't amazing.
So a very strange experience and I don't think I would be coming back. Seeing lots of alpacas was fun though!
