Loved this company 8 years ago and just as much last week when we returned especially to go whale watching again with Ocean Ecoventures. We took one morning trip and one sunset trip; both were superb. The new boat, Prowler, was super-comfortable, with great visibility. Our captains, Taz and Jane, were highly competent, affable and passionate naturalists who maximized our viewing experience without disrespecting the wildlife. If we didn't live so far away (East coast) , we'd be solid regular customers. Photos are just a few quick phone shots.
I thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. Not only did we see 2 types of whales and many sea lions but Captain Kate was extremely knowledgeable. I asked a lot of questions, especially about the killer whales, and she answered every one of them without hesitation. She was concerned about our comfort and went out of her way to make this a great experience, which it was. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this company and this tour.
Super nice and enthusiastic staff. They care in all belongs and want to provide you the best experience possible. Highly recommended. We went with this whale watching company as they seemed to be the best around. All the planning befor the trip was well done and without any issues. On the day of the tour there were some issues which postponed our start. During all this we were informed about updates to know what was going on. And also offered refund/reschedule if desired. The tour started nicely with some wildlife around. On the sea the weather had changed and it was quite wavey. It seemed that this also had effect on the whales as not wanted to show. We then took an extra long way back to hope for any sightings. Sadly we were not lucky. With the wind we were also hit by a lot spray so we were soaking wet in the end. Glad the provided suits took most of it. Our guide was also not happy with how it went and offered the voucher to try again whenever we wanted. We were able to schedule for the next day and the reserved a spot for us. This day the weather and water were near perfect and the experience so much better. On top of that we were able to encounter Orcas. But not some of the known groups but rather a pond of northern resident Orcas from Alaska! Even for our guides this was a super rare sight. We were able to cruise along next to the Orcas for 2 hours while enjoying them be playful and getting a lot of facts about them. As an extra treat were even able to hear their underwater sounds! And on way back we were even lucky to encounter a humpback whale. Thank you for that unforgetable memory!
I absolutely love this company! I’d give them a hundred star review if I could!! It’s a family owned company with a personal feel. From EJ in the office to Captains Simon, Tasli, Jane, Kate and Gary - everyone is so friendly and very professional. They love whales, are very knowledgeable and respectful of the animals on the water. All of the captains are excellent. I’ve been out with a few other companies in the past but now I won’t go whale watching with any other company on south/central Vancouver Island. I can’t wait to come back next year for more adventures on the water. I have no hesitation in recommending them.
My wife and I went on two whale watching tours with Ocean Ecoventures Whale Watching on September 3rd. One in the morning and one at sunset. Captain Tasli was very friendly and helpful on both tours. She really did her best to find the whales and give us a wonderful experience. She really succeeded. On the morning tour we saw our first humpback whales in our lives and were able to take some great photos of them. We also saw sea lions, seals and lots of seabirds. On the sunset tour we had perfect lighting conditions and Tasli went a long way to take us to the orcas. We also saw our first orcas ever. It was so great. I think there were several groups of orcas together, at least 20 or 25. There was even Chainsaw there, whom I recognized straight away. I had only seen him on Facebook before. The orcas were very active and we were able to take beautiful photos. An absolutely fantastic result, great tour, great Tasli. We also saw humpback whales on the second tour. It was a pleasure.
We had an amazing experience. The captain collaborated with others in the area to maximize our chances of spotting whales, which we did. While we were traveling from one area to another, or waiting for whale reports to come in, we were treated to views of other marine and avian wildlife, including seals, sea lions, and bald eagles. We highly recommend tours with this company.
Overall we were really happy with the experience! We saw humpback whales and orcas, as well as a bunch of large sea lions. Gary was absolutely amazing and provided so much information and education on the whales and happy to answer any questions. It was so great to have the tour provided by someone so passionate about the animals and the ocean. If I could make one suggestion it would be to suggest customers bring goggles or sunglasses to shelter eyes from the wind as we ended up travelling on cool waters for an hour to get to our viewing location. If people aren't familiar with travelling by boat they might not think of this (hi, it's me! Lol). My eyes were cold and watering for the hour trip and back. Another suggestion would be to provide goggles for passengers for the boat ride out. Other than that, we had a great experience and highly recommend!
Our goal (hope) was to see an orca and our zodiac driver/guide/marine biologist went to great lengths to make this a reality for us - exceeding our expectations in the process. The zodiac was extremely comfortable - unlike any that we have experienced in the past! We were able to zip though the water to reach locations with confirmed orca sightings. Our guide's extensive knowledge of the local orca families and their behaviours was both interesting and important in that she was as equipped as possible to follow them safely while providing us all with the best views possible. Along the way, she stopped the boat to allow us to enjoy the experience of 100's of salmon leaping from the water all around us and also to enjoy watching some sea lions and seals. As it turned out, we saw 2 pods of orcas including several breaching orcas - which was breath-taking!

This very interesting seaside village of Cowichan Bay presents a marine focused structure that was very inviting to wander through with amazement..there was a wide variety of boats situated along the walkable pier and wharf..the entire area is full of adventure and natural beauty and open to strolling investigation..the tourist information centre provides information on what to see and visit…the Cowichan Bay Boat Society operates the community based maritime museum…
I highly recommend taking a visit here! $5 for entry and just such a wonderful time. It is both indoors, as well as out on the dock. It even has interactive stations. Fun for the entire family! It's a busy area that can be difficult to find parking, so it can be a bit of a walk.
This little gem of a museum far exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth a visit. A couple of Interactive places for the kids as well.
What a great place to spend some time. Mel and her team mate, are wonderful people. They are loaded with useful information with regards to the museum. Also, I'm sure they are loaded with info about what there is to see in Cow Bay. Come to the Classic Boat Festival this July 6th, and 7th. Loads of fun.
Very small but interesting museum. Very skillfully made model ships
What a great experience it was to tour the Cowichan Maritime Museum. We met some of the members who graciously answered our questions and shared their valuable experience with us. I was interested in wooden boats, and there were at least ten different types on display, some vintage restored boats and some new/under construction models. Want to know how to build your own lapstrafe wood boat, they can teach you. Don't forget to buy a ticket to win a fantastic hand built boat.
Staff was friendly showed us around took the time to explain the history of the area was a treat.
Stop by the beautiful place and saw lots of sea lions.

We just did the Johnstone Strait kayaking trip with my daughter. We had the benefit of the owner, Georgia guiding our group. We saw quite a few orcas, a couple of whales, sea lions on the Trip Georgia is an extremely experienced guide who considers safety her first and foremost priority Highly recommend
This review is 2 years after my experience with Coastal Bliss Adventures. I have hiked all over the world. And most are day hikes or overnight hikes. So this was my first experience with a big pack. I did struggle with the ladders and extra weight. When we arrived at camp the first night, I was pulled aside and advised I should not continue. I was devastated as I would have not chosen to quit on my own. My hiking partner and I stayed behind and quit as per the advise of our guide. 11/2 years later I conquered the W in Chile. No I did not have to carry all the provisions as the WestCoast but I I still had a pack geared for 5 days. I have struggled with posting this as I am not experienced with a big pack. However, I have organized and lead groups o the skyline and Tonquin in Jasper. Would I have ever advise any of my group you should not be doing this? No the rest of us helped them. Maybe I am wrong and the guides did what they thought was right. However this was the first time I was discouraged to continue.
We had a fantastic 2 hour estuary paddle in Cowichan Bay with our guide Gary. We had one novice (and nervous) paddler in the group, he made him feel safe and confident - he came away a paddling enthusiast! We saw lots of birds and seals and learned a lot about the area. It was a glass calm day so we had time to paddle round to Genoa Bay and see this charming area. Highly recommend Coastal Bliss!
I joined Coastal Bliss for their West Coast Trail tour and loved every moment of the adventure. The guides were super organized and patient. Our meals were delicious and prepared to accommodate dietary needs which I really appreciated. With the preparation and organization taken care of by Coastal Bliss, I was able to fully enjoy the trek and focus on my body and mind, and having fun. Thank you for the journey!
I am a Cow Bay resident and heard very good things about Coastal Bliss from folks. My friend came out to visit me and we had wanted to go on a kayak adventure so we booked in for the evening Bioluminescence Kayak Tour. It was fantastic! Gary and Michael made us feel comfortable in the kayaks with the instructions they gave. We covered a lot more area than I had thought we would so that was incredible. The bioluminescence experience was truly amazing. If you are looking for something fun to do with people who know what they are doing, definitely check these folks out!
Fantastic company! Can't speak highly enough. A company with a heart and soul and love for what they do. Very detail oriented to ensure that everyone is safe and has a great time. Most definitely plan to return!
Coastal bliss adventures is absolutely amazing! All the guides are extremely professional, well trained and also make the experiences extremely enjoyable and fun! I’ve personally done the west coast trail trip (at 13) which went amazingly as well as having done the broken group kayaking and even though it poured many of the days this trip is by far one of my favourite memories ever!! The cowichan bay kayaking is also lovely and everything is always well organized and cared for!
My husband and I had a wonderful experience on a 3-day kayaking trip with Coastal Bliss Adventures and could not speak more highly of them. Georgia is a fantastic guide. She is well prepared and has expert knowledge of the waterways, currents, winds, and routes. We felt very safe and taken care of. Travis was an awesome assistant guide who was so helpful. They made us delicious food every meal and took us to gorgeous places. We just could not get enough of the scenery. I was a slow paddler, and Georgia was very patient with me and helpful, making sure I was comfortable and ok. We highly recommend this company.

We had a lovely experience at Rocky creek winery, loved listening to the stories from the owner (I’m so sorry I’m bad with names ) the smell and taste infusion was so unique . Little Ray made the experience even better by asking for belly rubs the entire time ! I loved every wine I got to taste and can’t wait to come back with friends and family who visit the island !!
I really can't say enough wonderful things about this winery. They really welcome you and help you to learn about who they are and how it impacts their wines. I really enjoyed the sensory aroma tour we were given and walked away very happy. They also have a wonderful dog that I was lucky enough to get to say hello to.
We had a wonderful wine tasting here. Definitely a hidden gem. The aromatic tasting was so unique and fun, and Linda provided lots of details about the wines. Appreciated the tasting fee being waived with purchase. Highly recommend!
Small and friendly very interesting wines owner was very friendly a great spot pretty garden and outdoor space
Such a great hidden gem. One of the best wine tasting experiences I’ve had. They were super friendly, took the time to explain their wines and their winery story, and served great wines! Highly recommend a visit here!
Very interesting winery! One can hear the passion when the owner is talking about the different bottled treasures & in the meantime Rey, the star of the show, keeps everybody entertained :D
I love Rocky Creek, I have been many times and have brought lots of friends and family. I appreciate the experience they give with the stories they tell and if I had one complaint it would be that the tasting experience (the best bang for the buck in my opinion as you get to taste everything for $5) goes on too long now. It is a 45 minute ordeal with too much back story and talking about the grapes and the process and on and on and on... A better blend of tasting and story needs to be found. Other than that great wines, nice unpretentious atmosphere and overall enjoyable experience.
Great winery! We had Barb to guide us through the tasting today and it was such a nice experience. She knew everything and we felt she was very invested in the story of the wine which I appreciate! Out of all the wineries we went to, we ended up buying the most here. Blackberry wine was delicious ☺️ Thanks!

The tour ended up being my husband and I and the guide. It was awesome. We were able to see about a dozen seals near the logs and sit and watch them for awhile. We also got a nice tour of the bay.
We were celebrating our son's birthday and our Guatemala homestay daughter's last week in Canada. After making inquiries to several kayaking outfits, we immediately sensed the professionalism of Cowichan Bay Kayaking and their guide, Taylor. She was so professional and knowledgeable on the phone as well as on the dock and water. Taylor and AJ made extra efforts to create an unforgettable tour of the bay to see the sunset, bioluminesce, seals and birds. Highly recommend!!
We did the 2h night-time bioluminescence kayaking tour, and it was a superb experience. Gary was our guide, and he taught us all the necessary techniques to be safe getting in/out and paddling on the kayak before we got going. On our trip, we paddled around the bay, with lots of interesting facts about the area from Gary. By the time it got darker, Gary led us away from the lights of the village, where we were able to see the plankton bioluminescence more clearly. It was truly amazing to witness first-hand, and highly recommend anyone to come experience. We would definitely come back again. Thank you Gary and Coastal Bliss for such a memorable time!
The bioluminescence tour with Taylor was great. We had an amazing time and enjoyed this beautiful nature phenomenon as well as the company of a local seal who likes to hang out with the tour groups.
Went on a bioluminescence tour. It ended up being just the tour guide, my friend and I! It was so much fun!! Thank you tim for being such a patient, knowledgeable and great tour guide!! Will definitely do it again!
Last month we travelled a long way from the US to celebrate our anniversary. One of the things we most looked forward to was kayaking at Cowichan Bay to see the bioluminescence. The tour started a bit late as the other two participants were running late, but our guide assured us we would still get our full 2 hours that we paid for. The guide was super helpful and even though we own kayaks and go often where we live, we learned a couple new things. The area was beautiful and the weather was lovely. It was very cool to see the sparkling bioluminescence. However, since we saw it the first place we were taken to look for it, the guide led us back to the dock an hour early. I even mentioned the time but she kept going. The experience was wonderful but we paid for two hours and only got one. The other participants were local so maybe it wasn’t a big deal to them, but we came a long way so we were disappointed for an experience half as long as we had expected. I don’t want to leave a terrible review as everything else about the experience was good (booking, guidance, gear, etc). But just be aware that your two hour reservation might not be that long.
We opted for the Evening Unwinder tour and loved it. Helpful instruction, patient staff, well informed guide (thx Tim!), lots of wildlife, and gorgeous views. Highly recommend! Will return!
Went for a night kayak. Sunset, Seal and Bioluminescence. Fantastic!!! Our guides (Taylor and AJ) were professional, patient and knowledgable; there was never a concern about safety. Made for a remarkable evening.

Relaxing with a beautiful ocean view. Sit inside or outside on the patio. The service is pleasant with menu fair pricing. Typical pub style food. Kids welcome during lunch service. Lots of menu choices. The fish n chips look delicious 😋
The view of the bay and fish ball while we waited for food was entertaining. Our server checked in on us just the right amount. Ordered a Halibut taco with house salad and raspberry vinegarette and the Halibut came breaded with a nice flavourful crunch. The sauce under the veggies was a perfect blend that complemented the fish.
Beautiful views over the harbour. Service was poor, our waitress was very slow, couldn't say anything about the menu, and seemed very disinterested. However, food came out fairly quickly and was decent. A little simple for the price but was fresh and tasted good.
Beautiful view for the patio on a hot summer day in the shade looking at the wharf and pier. Food is a little pricey, but delicious. Short handed for service that day, however, we weren't in a rush. Watching the whales in the bay added to the experience
Came in a couple of days ago with my fiancé and baby. The food and service were amazing! Even when it got busy, our server was still super kind and attentive. I used to be a server myself, so I know how overwhelming the rushes can get. Also, shoutout to the server who was super sweet to my baby and brought over a book for him. We'll definitely be back when we're in the area😊
The food was terrific. I enjoyed a cup of the chowder and the Korean beef burger with a fried egg. The latter was super message but the flavours were delicious. My friend had the Beef Dip and enjoyed it very much. She only thought once that it needed a little less horseradish. Maybe that could have been on the side as I love horseradish. Mel was a new server and did a very good job. We enjoyed the views and had lots of conversation. It was a good day.
WOW!!! A truly delightful experience and Cowichan Bay’s, best kept secret. Server Tamara was an 11 out of 10. Her knowledge of menu items and her natural enthusiasm gave new meaning to the term ‘customer delight’. She definitely understands the concept of customer service. From the wide assortment of craft beers, balanced menu options and of course the spectacular views the Cowichan Pub is a must visit while on Vancouver Island. The halibut fish and chips which are to die for and are the best fish and chips on the island. Affordably priced and excellent value for money. Awesome!!!!!
Overall I'd give 2 stars...the food is good (but pricey) but each time in the 20+years I've visited here, the service is extremely poor! I love the view, which is why we return to try them again...but always disappointed in lack of service (firstly, no welcome as waitress looked at us and snapping eyes and carrying on her way, then no beverage top up, no check on us at all during our time there). Could be a racial thing. Again, we will not
