Port of Spain

Port of Spain, on Trinidad’s northwest coast, is the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago. It’s known for its huge Carnival, with calypso and Caribbean soca music. Bordering the expansive Queen’s Park Savannah, the Royal Botanic Gardens displays plants from all over the world. The gardens also encompass Emperor Valley Zoo. The “Magnificent Seven,” near Queen's Park, is a row of extravagant mansions from around 1900.

Absolutely gorgeous. Ate my first Bake and Shark meal! Delicious! I will never forget the day I spent here. Definitely worth the visit and the drive is part of the experience!
Absolutely stunning views! Delicious food and yummy treats and drinks!!! Back n Shark with garlic sauce out of this world!! 😊
Leave early (morning) to beat traffic & crowds. • Bring swim gear, sunblock, towel, water etc. so you’re not overly reliant on vendors. • Try the bake & shark but maybe also check less crowded stalls if you want a more relaxed food experience. • Check the weather / surf forecasts. If too windy or rough, your experience in the water may be less enjoyable. • Be sure to enjoy the drive up — there are look-outs or spots for photos.
My favourite beach to visit. First time during the rainy season in May. Bake and shark, love the scenic view on the way winding down into the bay. It's changed very much over time. Lots more stalls on the beach now which is different. I still enjoy tumbling in the waves. It's not a relaxing swim but more of a workout in the sunshine and liming. Had some cute coconut cocktails in the van on the road. Wave after wave!
I’ve been to many countries and beaches, and I wouldn’t put this one in my top 5 or even top 10. It’s a nice beach to spend some time on while visiting the island, but Tobago is much better known for its beaches. The water here wasn’t especially clear or blue, and the waves made swimming less enjoyable. We came on a cruise ship tour that cost about $70 per person for only 2.5 hours at the beach. Sunbeds and umbrellas were not included—we paid $20 extra—and even showers weren’t part of the package. Getting back on the bus was frustrating because no one told us you can’t board wet, so without dry clothes or towels it became an issue, especially since the ride back to the ship was about 1.5 hours. There were a few snack and food vendors around, but overall the experience felt overpriced and underwhelming. For me, this beach earns about 3.5 stars at best.
If we’re being honest you go to maracas for the bake and shark and the beach is a plus. Surf is always rough so be on your guard at all times while in the water. Bathroom is $5TT and has showers.
My fave beach in Trinidad, the facilities are pretty great (would reccomend walking with cash as you have to pay for parking/facilities etc).
One of the most popular beaches in Trinidad. Highly recommend to visit during Easter period where the water is calmer and clearer even blue/green. Stingrays can be found on this beach but more to the fishing area on the left end.

Its one of the best spots to relax and enjoy the outdoors in Port of Spain. It’s huge, open, and great for a walk, jog, or just lounging around. The area is well-kept, with plenty of green space and beautiful views, especially in the evenings when the sun starts to set. I also attended a yoga session there, and it was a great experience. The peaceful atmosphere and open space made it the perfect setting to unwind and connect with nature. It’s a popular spot for families, fitness enthusiasts, or anyone just looking to relax. There are also lots of food vendors around, so you can grab a quick bite or drink while enjoying the view.
The treasure and social center of Port of Spain. Visiting again after 45 years and expecting the same beauty is obviously unfair and mostly intact, however the barracks, placed probably for the carnival could have been a better taste, reflecting local architecture, and should have been removed by now. It is sad to see that the evenings are not safe anymore in the park, so sad (and bad for local business and for tourism).
Super beautiful park. They sell coconut water everywhere which my son loves. Gras is super green and well trimmed, I really enjoy going there with my kid.
Queen's Park Savannah, often referred to as "the Savannah," is a major landmark and the largest open recreational space in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It's a central hub for various activities, events, and historical attractions. It is considered to be one of the largest traffic roundabouts in the world. Things to Do and See. Recreation, the magnificent seven, nearby attraction and food vendors.
This natural large savannak is about 260 acres with a circumference of over 2.2 miles. The park is ringed by a busy roadway yet overs peace. The huge area offers sitting benches in the shade along the roadway. The huge interior is a large open field for playing, jumping, running. The southern end offers nightly food trucks from 6pm til about 11pm with various ethnic foods.
Day trip in POS, and headed to the savannah from the water taxi terminal. Not a bad walk. At that time 10am, savannah was pretty empty. Had a coconut and chilled for an hour, enjoying the cool breeze and allowing the day to pass me by. Probably would be much better in the afternoons.
Great outdoor space for any activities. Great running track and just a pleasant place to sit and take in the city shenanigans. The food vendors on the weekend are really amazing also. Just gotta try for your own experience. Which shouldn't disappoint 👍🏿
We loved the Savannah But especially the doubles truck that make them fresh in front of you We’ll worth a visit , and we paid many whilst in the Port of Spain Felt very safe and just a really good community atmosphere The lady that sells fresh juice opposite the ice cream seller is well worth a visit Lovely fresh healthy juice served with a smile 🥰

I enjoyed visiting a lot. I went alone and it was a very peaceful walk through to see all the animals. There were shops available for drinks / food / souvenirs. I enjoyed seeing so many animals you don't usually get to see in zoos in United States.
Thanks to Christian, my husband and I as well as my friends from NYC had a very educational & wonderful time. He gave an experience that exceeded my husband's and my 1st visit to the zoo. This was, according to my friend, one of the best zoo visits she's had due to the mini your as well as petting experience. What I would like to say to SOME of the visitors to the zoo is STOP TAKING GOD'S CREATIONS FOR GRANTED & SHOW APPRECIATION. You can do this by adherence to zoo rules/policies by NOT FEEDING THE ANIMALS. It's cruel! They die and there's so much red tape in getting new animals to the zoo to "entertain" you. Also, be considerate of shooting off fireworks and bamboo.... it spooks the animals literally to death. They can get so scared they run wild to their death. Think about this... God gave you a brain more vast than those animals; be appreciative and use it 😉
Well... I hate to give bad news about this place... but maybe the zoo will read this and make some changes before they close for good! The zoo need real help. The animal feces smell is all over the primate section and is inescapable, espescially on the humid rainy days. The signage on the exhibits are missing and poorly done. The larger animals look uncomfortable for sure and have no recourse from the heat. The aquarium...oh please stop calling it that!. Its just a few fish tanks with some freshwater species. The tanks need to be cleaned up, so the fish can be better displayed. The airconditioning in this space is a lovely escape from the stench of mamalian species areas, so that is a huge plus. Lots of the animal exhibit spaces are missing animals. Why??! The best parts of the zoo are the birds, zebras,& tigers. There are also many native food tree species in the zoo as well. Make the place more interactive by adding website maps, contol the odors, and add some saltwater fish species and other local wildlife along with the areas they are found in nature. This place could be such a national treasure! I remember this zoo from when I was a child. It was such a pleasant experience. I brought my own family here this week- 45 years later. I was embarassed at the condition of the place. Have some Trini Pride man, and fix this place up to modern tourist zoo standards. I would love to come back when things have improved. Thanks for reading and I really hope all-yuh do someting good for de place soon.
About 15 years ago, I took some expats to this zoo and it was actually quite nice— a little dated, but reasonably well maintained. On our recent visit to Trinidad, we decided to take our kids, thinking it would be a fun family outing. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The only real positive was the free parking. Given the island’s constant humidity, it would be a huge improvement if management installed misting stations throughout the grounds. This would make the visit much more comfortable. Instead, the entire zoo had an overwhelming odor of animal waste—particularly near the wild boar section, where the smell was almost unbearable. Basic facilities were also an issue. There wasn’t a single working sink with running water; most of the pipes were broken, with faucet handles just spinning in place. On the bright side, the animals were fairly active, and our kids enjoyed seeing some of the local wildlife, including snakes, turtles, deer, and agouti. Overall, the zoo has potential, but it’s clear that significant upkeep and investment are needed to bring it back to a standard that both locals and visitors can appreciate.
Visited recently after many years and I welcomed the few updates I noticed. The tents and benches added a touch of much needed comfort and a place to rest. Even though I personally find it is depressing for the animals to be in the small enclosures, I have observed the little improvements to accommodate the animals. Keep up the good job!
Lovely experience with the Halloween theme. Food and drinks on sale at two locations. My only concern was at the entry point to pay I told the cashier one child under 12 years and one adult. The cashier looked at my child who turned 11 years old a week ago and her facial expression and body language said it all. She assumed I was lying because my daughter looks more mature for her age. I paid $100 and had to remind the cashier I was waiting on my charge. Kids 12&under TT$20, 13&over is TT$40. That was the only uncomfortable part of my experience.
Lots of exotic animals, reptiles and birds. Tall giraffes, snakes and caymans.
It was awesome... Lots of different animals. The main reason I went to that zoo was because my little one loves giraffes. Only. To find out we couldn't go in that section :( we only saw the head of the giraffe. Was disappointed with that.

It's been many years going to the botanical gardens. But we wanted something to do on a public holiday so we decided to visit with my daughter and she absolutely loved it. She enjoyed walking along the trails and seeing bats, butterflies, different trees and flowers and the squirrels and birds. She had a wonderful.
I'm sure we have all visited the Botanical Gardens.. but have you ever seen The Rainbow Eucalyptus? This is like nature's vibrant work of art! Its smooth, orange-tinted bark peels away to reveal a stunning array of colors—orange, gray, and purplish-brown—making it look like the tree’s wearing its own masterpiece. And let’s talk about its height: this tree towers majestically, with its long, tapering trunk stretching all the way up to the sky—truly a sight to behold. But this tree isn’t just about looks! Its leaves are packed with antiseptic properties, making them great for treating wounds. Plus, brew them into a tea and they help soothe asthma and coughs. Oh, and here’s the best part: the Rainbow Eucalyptus naturally repels mosquitoes. As someone with O+ blood (and an apparent magnet for mosquitoes), I couldn’t appreciate this more—goodbye, itchy bites! 🌈🌳🦟
Very natural and casual garden, large and nice to walk around. It is free. Nice way of spending an hour or so. Not many plants.
Awesome experience. Our stop was part of a tour so we only stayed for 20 minutes. They had public toilets which were relatively clean! The flora was great and our guide filled in the blanks! While there we saw the rainbow tree, pretty cool!
My wife and I had a wonderful time strolling through the Royal Botanic Gardens in Port of Spain. The gardens are beautifully maintained and offer a peaceful escape from the city. One thing to note is that the gardens are adjacent to the President's House, so be mindful of where you enter, as I made the mistake of getting too close and was politely approached by the guards. The gardens are also conveniently connected to the zoo, making it easy to explore both attractions in one visit. Overall, it was a great place to walk through and enjoy nature. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing and scenic outing.
Very clean and scenic area. The trees offer great shade for picnic and the bathrooms are easy to access. The gardens are closed between 5-6pm
Worth a stop. Plants weren't overly amazing but lots of birds, a decent koi pond, and a neat suspended bridge
Lovely place to go and just enjoy nature. Small cemetery inside with politicians graves. Overall very pretty. Didn't go up the hill. Just walked around the path Lucky enough to see a hummingbird, parrot, red squirrel and eguana.

Had a great time at Caroni Swamp with my family. Such a beautiful and dreamy place peaceful, scenic, and unforgettable. Highly recommend! 💛
An excellent place of importance for the birdlife and flora & fauna. Enjoyed visiting when living nearby.
Beautiful my family and i enjoyed it there and it was educational.
Short walk into the mangroves with chances to see crabs and birds. Nice addon to a boat tour if you're avid nature lovers like my family.
Very relaxing boat ride, totally in nature, guides are on point with great information.
