Park
Nature & Parks
Queen's Park Savannah, also known as the Savannah, is a sprawling green space that spans about 3.7 kilometers in perimeter and serves as the heart of Port of Spain. It is famous for being the focal point of Carnival, with the Grand Stand hosting vibrant masqueraders showcasing their stunning costumes each year. The park is surrounded by notable attractions such as the Victorian-style mansions known as the Magnificent Seven, Emperor Valley Zoo, and the striking National Academy of the Performing Arts building.
Its one of the best spots to relax and enjoy the outdoors in Port of Spain. It’s huge, open, and great for a walk, jog, or just lounging around. The area is well-kept, with plenty of green space and beautiful views, especially in the evenings when the sun starts to set. I also attended a yoga session there, and it was a great experience. The peaceful atmosphere and open space made it the perfect setting to unwind and connect with nature. It’s a popular spot for families, fitness enthusiasts, or anyone just looking to relax. There are also lots of food vendors around, so you can grab a quick bite or drink while enjoying the view.

The treasure and social center of Port of Spain. Visiting again after 45 years and expecting the same beauty is obviously unfair and mostly intact, however the barracks, placed probably for the carnival could have been a better taste, reflecting local architecture, and should have been removed by now. It is sad to see that the evenings are not safe anymore in the park, so sad (and bad for local business and for tourism).
Süleyman A — Google review
Super beautiful park. They sell coconut water everywhere which my son loves. Gras is super green and well trimmed, I really enjoy going there with my kid.

Queen's Park Savannah, often referred to as "the Savannah," is a major landmark and the largest open recreational space in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It's a central hub for various activities, events, and historical attractions. It is considered to be one of the largest traffic roundabouts in the world. Things to Do and See. Recreation, the magnificent seven, nearby attraction and food vendors.
Steve B — Google review
Day trip in POS, and headed to the savannah from the water taxi terminal. Not a bad walk. At that time 10am, savannah was pretty empty. Had a coconut and chilled for an hour, enjoying the cool breeze and allowing the day to pass me by. Probably would be much better in the afternoons.
T — Google review
This is a park considered the World's Largest Roundabout. It is a refreshing spot in Port of Spain. You can go exercise outdoors in the late afternoon or evening as it gives a better weather by then, it's cooler and street vendors are around. Highly recommend getting a coconut from the people selling on the streets to cool off. It's a nice way to exercise and spend your sunset.
Keren S — Google review
Great place to attend major activities like Panorama for Carnival if you like steelpan. It's also good good to walk around to exercise on mornings or evening as it is probably the largest roundabout in the world.
Latoyaa R — Google review
Great site for various events from carnival fetes to kite flying with the family. The magnificent seven surrounds the world's largest roundabout. At just under 4km, it can be easily traversed along the sidewalk or you can enjoy a stroll in the grass. The botanical gardens, hollows and the zoo are also conveniently located around its perimeter.

Nestled atop a hill overlooking the vibrant city of Port of Spain and the stunning Gulf of Paria, Fort George is a historical gem that dates back to 1804. Originally known as La Vigie, this well-preserved fortification offers visitors not only a glimpse into Trinidad's military past but also breathtaking panoramic views.
Nice place to visit while in Trinidad. Easy access by car, no need to pay for tickets to visit the place and you have a good panoramic view of Port of Spain. Really recommended for those who wish to learn a little more about Trinida's history. Although it's easy to reach, it will take around 30 minutes only to walk around the place.

Spectacular views! This place is free to the public and perfect for a peaceful view of the city. The views are incredible. There is a long winding road uphill to get to the top. The place is a bit lonely so be alert. However it is so beautiful, perfect to have a picnic 🧺 and take pictures. The place is well maintained, there are of course old cannons and even a jail cell. I love walking around and exploring inside the jail and taking pictures by the cannons. There is very a toilet located on the property and parking. I highly recommend visiting here!
Deborah R — Google review
My First time visiting i must say the view is breath taking so beautiful. No crowds. Just some people hugging around the binoculars because it only had one available like they didn't want to give others a chance. The washroom facility is abandoned no security on the compound though. Becareful while venturing

First time visiting after many years, and I was a bit sad that I couldn't explore the higher grounds of this landmark due to repairs/maintenence works ongoing. HOWEVER, the environment on the outskirts provided that calming escape I needed nevertheless.

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Emperor Valley Zoo, situated next to the Botanic Gardens in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, is a must-visit zoological park offering an exciting day out for families. It houses a diverse range of animals such as giraffes, tigers, giant tortoises, and various primates. Visitors can also spot local and exotic species like lions and different types of monkeys. The zoo provides interactive experiences for children, including the opportunity to feed some of the friendlier animals.
I enjoyed visiting a lot. I went alone and it was a very peaceful walk through to see all the animals. There were shops available for drinks / food / souvenirs. I enjoyed seeing so many animals you don't usually get to see in zoos in United States.
Rachael K — Google review
Thanks to Christian, my husband and I as well as my friends from NYC had a very educational & wonderful time. He gave an experience that exceeded my husband's and my 1st visit to the zoo. This was, according to my friend, one of the best zoo visits she's had due to the mini your as well as petting experience. What I would like to say to SOME of the visitors to the zoo is STOP TAKING GOD'S CREATIONS FOR GRANTED & SHOW APPRECIATION. You can do this by adherence to zoo rules/policies by NOT FEEDING THE ANIMALS. It's cruel! They die and there's so much red tape in getting new animals to the zoo to "entertain" you. Also, be considerate of shooting off fireworks and bamboo.... it spooks the animals literally to death. They can get so scared they run wild to their death. Think about this... God gave you a brain more vast than those animals; be appreciative and use it 😉
Adenike J — Google review
Well... I hate to give bad news about this place... but maybe the zoo will read this and make some changes before they close for good! The zoo need real help. The animal feces smell is all over the primate section and is inescapable, espescially on the humid rainy days. The signage on the exhibits are missing and poorly done. The larger animals look uncomfortable for sure and have no recourse from the heat. The aquarium...oh please stop calling it that!. Its just a few fish tanks with some freshwater species. The tanks need to be cleaned up, so the fish can be better displayed. The airconditioning in this space is a lovely escape from the stench of mamalian species areas, so that is a huge plus. Lots of the animal exhibit spaces are missing animals. Why??! The best parts of the zoo are the birds, zebras,& tigers. There are also many native food tree species in the zoo as well. Make the place more interactive by adding website maps, contol the odors, and add some saltwater fish species and other local wildlife along with the areas they are found in nature. This place could be such a national treasure! I remember this zoo from when I was a child. It was such a pleasant experience. I brought my own family here this week- 45 years later. I was embarassed at the condition of the place. Have some Trini Pride man, and fix this place up to modern tourist zoo standards. I would love to come back when things have improved. Thanks for reading and I really hope all-yuh do someting good for de place soon.
Work A — Google review
About 15 years ago, I took some expats to this zoo and it was actually quite nice— a little dated, but reasonably well maintained. On our recent visit to Trinidad, we decided to take our kids, thinking it would be a fun family outing. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The only real positive was the free parking. Given the island’s constant humidity, it would be a huge improvement if management installed misting stations throughout the grounds. This would make the visit much more comfortable. Instead, the entire zoo had an overwhelming odor of animal waste—particularly near the wild boar section, where the smell was almost unbearable. Basic facilities were also an issue. There wasn’t a single working sink with running water; most of the pipes were broken, with faucet handles just spinning in place. On the bright side, the animals were fairly active, and our kids enjoyed seeing some of the local wildlife, including snakes, turtles, deer, and agouti. Overall, the zoo has potential, but it’s clear that significant upkeep and investment are needed to bring it back to a standard that both locals and visitors can appreciate.

Lots of animals, not kept in the best environments. Chimpanzee was alone just hugging a blanket. I visited twice in 3 days and never saw the Chimpanzee being interacted with, Very sad as I saw a lot of staff stood around on mobile phones. Disappointed given it's size and number of animals etc, staff just did not seem interested or engage with customers. I won't visit again nor would I recommend.
Mark G — Google review
Visited recently after many years and I welcomed the few updates I noticed. The tents and benches added a touch of much needed comfort and a place to rest. Even though I personally find it is depressing for the animals to be in the small enclosures, I have observed the little improvements to accommodate the animals. Keep up the good job!
Khold P — Google review
Lots of exotic animals, reptiles and birds. Tall giraffes, snakes and caymans.

Family friendly attraction near the Savannah. Kids love the animals, though it can get crowded. Nice for an afternoon trip. Pack your own lunch as refreshments can be pricey especially if a large group of children. Your pocket will thank me. lol.

The Royal Botanic Gardens, located just outside the Port of Spain, is a serene and tranquil natural oasis spanning over 60 acres. It is one of the oldest botanical gardens globally and features more than 700 trees, including native species and those collected from all seven continents. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, bird-watching activities, and picnics amidst diverse flora. The gardens also house a small burial plot for former Governors of Trinidad since 1819.
It's been many years going to the botanical gardens. But we wanted something to do on a public holiday so we decided to visit with my daughter and she absolutely loved it. She enjoyed walking along the trails and seeing bats, butterflies, different trees and flowers and the squirrels and birds. She had a wonderful.

I'm sure we have all visited the Botanical Gardens.. but have you ever seen The Rainbow Eucalyptus? This is like nature's vibrant work of art! Its smooth, orange-tinted bark peels away to reveal a stunning array of colors—orange, gray, and purplish-brown—making it look like the tree’s wearing its own masterpiece. And let’s talk about its height: this tree towers majestically, with its long, tapering trunk stretching all the way up to the sky—truly a sight to behold. But this tree isn’t just about looks! Its leaves are packed with antiseptic properties, making them great for treating wounds. Plus, brew them into a tea and they help soothe asthma and coughs. Oh, and here’s the best part: the Rainbow Eucalyptus naturally repels mosquitoes. As someone with O+ blood (and an apparent magnet for mosquitoes), I couldn’t appreciate this more—goodbye, itchy bites! 🌈🌳🦟

Very natural and casual garden, large and nice to walk around. It is free. Nice way of spending an hour or so. Not many plants.

My wife and I had a wonderful time strolling through the Royal Botanic Gardens in Port of Spain. The gardens are beautifully maintained and offer a peaceful escape from the city. One thing to note is that the gardens are adjacent to the President's House, so be mindful of where you enter, as I made the mistake of getting too close and was politely approached by the guards. The gardens are also conveniently connected to the zoo, making it easy to explore both attractions in one visit. Overall, it was a great place to walk through and enjoy nature. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing and scenic outing.

Trinidad history is something some of us are not fully educated about. The National Museum & Art Gallery is the place to be
Kember K — Google review
The museum is one of my happy places, took my daughter for the first time and she loved it too. Not much has changed since my first visit years ago, yet every time I visit I discover something new. Hoping that with the major renovations coming up they really do this national treasure justice (and maintain it too) First time I've been allowed to take pictures inside as well. The guy at the front said, take as many as we want so we can compare when the renovations are through.
Shernell ( — Google review
Informative museum on the first floor about the history of the my twin island home. Second floor has an exhibition of paintings sculptures by local artist. Even two by my late art teacher. But MORE professional curation is greatly needed. Some of the pieces seem dusty and deteriorating. Poor lighting and uninspired installations. The WITCO sports room has not been updated with latest Trinidad athletes, the pictures are yellowing out and fading. They seem to be in the same condition as when I first saw them 35 years ago. CURATION!

The Red House has played a central role in the country's political landscape and has been a witness to many pivotal moments in Trinidad and Tobago's history. As you stroll eastward along Independence Square South, you'll encounter the magnificent Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. This architectural gem, constructed from striking blue metal stone sourced from Laventille quarries, stands as one of Trinidad's oldest religious edifices. Commissioned by Sir Ralph Woodford, the first civilian governor, it was designed to serve a predominantly Roman Catholic community in the early 19th century.
Had to enter this amazing cathedral. One of the few churches open on a weekday. Church was pretty empty only two other worshipers available. There were large fans to keep the place cool. The Cathedal is a striking architectural landmark. Its Gothic Revival style is impressive, and the interior offers a peaceful, reverent atmosphere. Beautiful stained glass adore and an impressive organ.

Historical landmark
Woodford Square, formerly known as Brunswick Square, holds a significant place in the history of Trinidad and Tobago. Renamed during World War I to honor Sir Ralph James Woodford, this site played a pivotal role in shaping the country's political landscape. It was here that Dr. Eric Williams, the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, delivered influential speeches and engaged in fiery debates about the nation's future.
Woodford Square also called 'The People's Parliament 'is a public space situated in the City of Port of Spain.Bounded in the East by Frederick Street, the West by Abercromby Street overlooked by the Red House where sittings of The Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago takes place, the North by Knox Street overlooked by The Hall of Justice and City Hall and the South by Hart Street. On any given day persons gather in little groups to discuss Politics,Current Affairs etc while enjoying the shade and the refreshing breeze that the huge trees provide while sometimes having that sno-cone covered with guava syrup.

Nice open place to relax. At times you may have to clean the seats since it can have bird droppings as there are a lot of big trees around. It is surrounded by a few clothing and accessory stores and more. Miguel Moses, UA investments clothing store, the Old Public Library (beautiful building I believe it still isn't open to the public yet), Hall of Justice, the Red House, the Old port of Spain Fire Station (diagonally opposite) and the Cathedral.

Walking back from the savannah has to pass by the Red house and ended up on Woodford square. Loads of benches to sit on. Sadly the fountain was not working. Paid toilets were available. A few homeless people about. So many sites to admire. From the church, the Red house, the hall of justice and the library. Chilled out here as I enjoyed a cold drink. Cool place to chill out.

Beautiful historic city park. Clean and safe. Worth a visit.

Well maintained beautiful park, very scenic especially when the poui trees are blossoming. Very relaxing to just sit and enjoy that refreshing bit of nature in the concrete jungle. Surrounded by historic and important building such as The Red House, The Holy Trinity Cathedral. Just one of the signs could do with a face lift but the history and information is all there. Hopefully it's maintenance continues so we can appreciate its beauty.

One of the more vegetated parks in Port of Spain. It's also one of the smaller ones. Lots of educational signs and benches to sit. It's right next to the trinity tower and this makes it a popular destination for locals to relax and listen to the ringing, especially at 6pm.

We went to The Host for my mother's birthday celebration & it was great the brunch buffet was exceptional, & the way they honored my mom made her feel very special 😊 ❤️

The theather was really clean. I went for a lunchtime/ afternoon movie and there wasn't a crowd. The usual places were open for eats and drinks inside. There was also a photo booth and a game area. It was a nice and safe experience by myself. Really enjoyable during the morning to early afternoon hours if you just want to relax and enjoy the movie in peace without a crowd. Tickets are usually cheaper these hours as well. Usually from afternoon into the night there is a crowd. A lot of businesses are around the theater. A play park, many restaurants, clothing and book stores as well. Courtyard hotel Marriott is right next door and the Jean Pierre Complex is located across the road.

A big Mall which houses cinemas, stores, food, restaurants, coffee, clothing and a couple other establishments. Atms are located here, bathrooms, outdoor and indoor parking. It can be very busy during weekends or when popular movies are showing. Went to see a movie last night. Service was good but the movie was very dull/dim. Even the people I went with complained that the movie lacked brightness.

It's conveniently located on Ariapita Avenue with a large and safe carpark for customers on Fitt Street. Visited at 5pm and there were no crowds. The shop is small but well laid out and stocked with a variety of food, drinks and snackables. A small offering of baked goodies - breads, cakes and cookies. Saw some pholourie and accra, sushi and packaged meals too! A pretty wide range of local and imported beers and alcohol 😁 Prices were a bit above the average for some items, others were just about what you'd expect at any other supermarket. The staff was fantastic - patient, polite and helpful.

It’s honestly a regular grocery BUT the staff are amazing! They have regular staff such as an older guy with a short haircut who is super friendly and incredibly helpful! Same goes for the guy stationed at the door, I go out of my way to come here because the staff are always ready to help & the store is clean and well organized! Wow!

Nicely appointed, well stocked, clean and excellent customer service from everyone I interacted with including Amanda (thanks for the vegan meal suggestion). Was particularly impressed by the young man near the cashier who volunteered to hold my basket while I offloaded my items at the cashier. Never, have I ever, witnessed such a gesture while shopping in T&T (or the US for that matter). Visited for the first time today and plan on returning.

There is a lot to love and nothing to hate about Fitt St Market. The workers are very friendly, they have a great variety of items to take away and their frozen aisle is top notch. They stock a lot of local products which is really nice and helps support our people. Their prices are fair and the location is quite convenient.
