On a rainy day in Vik, my significant other and I decided to do the lava show spontaneously, especially since it was difficult to be outside when it was cold and windy. We were pleasantly surprised by how interesting the show was. The lava show was amazing!!! Both my 9 and 6 year olds loved the show but we were all amazed by it. The presenter (can’t remember his name) was so good at interacting with the kids and explaining everything. It was cool learning about volcanos along with how the show was run. Also, the heat from the lava was really powerful in the room and it was cool feeling that sudden change in temperature. We definitely would recommend the show. We wish we had more time to visit the other show in Reykjavík to learn about that volcano system.

Huge parking lot with bathroom facilities available. There is a hot dog stand as well as a large restaurant. The restaurant has to order dishes like pasta and salads but they also have on the go sandwiches and coffee.

An absolute “MUST DO” if you’re in Southern Iceland. This is my 2nd time taking this tour in a little over a year. I’d do again a week later if I could.
The people are friendly, informative and helpful. The tour itself is relatively easy. They provide the limited amount of equipment you’ll need for the hike.
The geology and the views are outstanding. Awesome is an exceedingly inadequate word to describe it. You will not regret taking this tour.

Achtung. Hier ist nicht die Eishöhle oder der Gletscher, sondern der Startpunkt für die Touren. Von Vik aus geht es ca. 15 Minuten die Straße Richtung Osten und dann über unbefestigte Straßen entlang durch atemberaubende Landschaft bis zum Gletscher.
Wir hatten die Tour zur Katla Höhle mit Kaltatrack unternommen und über GuidetoIceland.is gebucht. Unser Guide war super und wir können es nur empfehlen. Startpunkt ist in Vik.

Immer wieder entstehen neue Wege, Höhlen und Wasserfälle. Die Höhle selbst ist recht klein, aber dennoch einen Ausflug wert. Alleine der Weg dort hin ist abenteuerlich. Zuerst die Fahrt mit dem Superjeep und dann die kleine Wanderung. Wir hatten sogar das Glück einen Polar Fuchs zu sehen der gerade sein Fell wechselt. Hier sind Filme und Serien wie Interstellar, Game of Thrones und Star Wars gedreht worden. Sehr eindrucksvoll!

One star for the after-taste I got after visiting this restaurant. I ordered lamp fillet but beforehand I checked with the waitress if the meat is fully fried and if there are no raw parts as I am pregnant. She was nice and said laughing ‘of course not, it’s fully cooked’. I got two juicy pieces of lamb that were medium-rare cooked with actually blood in the middle. I came to another waitress saying that I can’t eat raw meat as I am pregnant and I was reassured that the meat would be fully cooked. She said they can fix it and they took my plate to grill it longer. And it was okay, but they grilled only one piece. When I asked to cook another piece too, she returned with my plate, threw it on the table saying nothing. While leaving the first waitress who took my order asked if everything was okay - well, clearly not. But no signs of admitting her mistake. I didn’t expect any special treatment in such touristic place but didn’t expect such attitude either considering that it was the most expensive item on the menu. Clearly the first waitress wasn’t well informed about the menu, otherwise I’d just ordered something else.

The pizza at black crust is pretty solid and welcoming especially on a rainy day. There will likely be a long line due to tour groups and its popularity, but the line moves fast. The service is very good and they are pretty efficient. They offer both black crust pizza and normal dough pizza. They also have some appetizers and desserts that we didn’t try. The black crust pizza itself does not taste any different, but the black crust itself looks unique and interesting. We tried the duck and pepperoni pizzas which were both pretty good. There were no overwhelming flavors on either one, but the pepperoni did have some sweet fig spread on it that I didn’t like too much and took off.
I would definitely recommend trying black crust pizzeria if you are in the area!

1. The pizza is good! On a fundamental level, having good tasting food is a great place to start. I was very happy with our meal.
2. The wait was not too long. The way it works: you walk in and get in line, take a look at the menu and then get up to the service counter to order. Once you order they will assign you a table.
3. Easy to park, it’s that simple. I’d say it is an accessible place.
Overall, the experience was great. You can’t go wrong giving this place a go. It’s on the pricey side though. So be mindful that you will spend about 30USD for a pizza.

This was one of the highlights of our trip! The gentleman who runs the shop is so friendly and explained how he makes all their wool socks & sweaters. They also have beautiful hand knit items and three kinds of yarn in different colors. The lady in the store very patiently helped us pick out the right kind of yarn, and they had Icelandic knitting books to pick a pattern from. Yarn was some of the more reasonably priced I’ve seen. Lastly, their dogs are so sweet!! Worth the stop. They mentioned they’ll be moving to a larger location in a year or so.

Excellent tourist trap. It's themed well, and located in a really nice area. The parking lot has a view to the purple wild flowers, and the other side is an open field with some tents. There are benches and placss to sit, but you can also just rest in the grass which is nice.
The staff is... cold and lifeless? Not sure what's going on there, but you take a look at every review of this location and see for yourself. No mention of staff handling, welcoming, asking questions, or offering options or help.
The coffee itself is okay at best. Yes it's decorated, but it's just coffee.
When asked about the bus, the story is it's from the war. Bruv, the war? What war? They mentioned nato, like okay and? It's like pulling teeth.
I'd come here with your own coffee or whatever, and enjoy the view. I wouldn't come here expecting a nice drink, just a nice view.

From the Bar to the pool room and the restaurant, I have read that the restaurant is pretty expensive but comparing to other places in Vik it is pretty much the same price. We paid a little extra for the Mountain View room and saw this from our room. Great way to spot the northern lights. Some other comments talk about the Mountain View rooms overlooking a parking lot, but at least when we went in November there were almost no cars. We stayed in the premium part of the hotel twice. 2024 oct and 2025 oct. Both times I only had good things to say. The rooms are comfy, the bathrooms are clean and upgraded. The breakfast has a wide variety. This time that we stayed we traveled with my mom who is older and it was pouring really hard at night and while we were trying to leave for dinner she tripped and fell right outside the hotel. The hotel staff was amazing at helping and prompt at comming out and helping us take her in and help with first aid. Bogdan I believe was one of the guys on at that night and helped amazingly. So hospitable! The only thing I would recommend it adding some path lights outside when it rains and is night time it can get really dark and water piles up which makes the whole path look the same. Thank you again you guys! Would stay here again and recommend!

Parkplatz Abends teilweise sehr überfüllt - also rechtzeitig da sein, sonst muss man ein wenig marschieren. Frühstück ist OK.
Der Preis ist extrem überhöht und maximal die Hälfte wäre fair für das was geboten wird.

This place was fantastic. We were recommended to do this hike by a couple we ran into earlier in our trip. It took us an hour and a half to do, but we are the stop and take picture type. We could see Vik from the top, and the rock formations off the coast of Vik also. While the grave was neat, the old turf farmstead cool, the best part was the view and remoteness. My favorite hike I think. We got to see a bunch of sheep up close. Glad their poo doesn't smell as bad as my dogs since i stepped in some. Also it is extremely windy. We did the counter clockwise way, and that worked pretty well. You will really enjoy this hike, guaranteed!

You can tell by the fact that this only has 17 reviews (when most other attractions have 400+) that this truly is a hidden gem. This is another area where I wish I could give bonus stars. This was my favorite part of our 8 day trip to Iceland (#2 for my wife), and it wasn't even on our 'see this' list. We happened to stumble upon it when we saw a lone car parked at the base of the hill and a sign with the "interesting thing here" logo.
Its difficult to describe what this is other than an absolutely stunning hike with a historical surprise at the end. Once you climb to the top of the hill/cliff, you encounter beautiful rolling hills; except you're a few hundred feet above the black sand beach surrounding the 'devils tower' like feature you're on top of. During the hike you catch views of the ocean, of the black sand beach, and the mountains in the background. We even got to watch a sandstorm from a distance as a result of the high winds. If you're an active vacationer; this is a must-do. I've never seen this location mentioned elsewhere, it really does seem to be one of the few 'secrets' left in Iceland. Because of the winds, we did not make the hike to the cave.

It's an nice hiking trail. .can be found just as you get out of Vik city in right hand side... There is also a cave and long black sand ground next to it bit the trail and view from the top is gem... Its probably best view o have seen in my entire life... On on side you can see endless sea and on the other side you have mountains covered with glacier rivers... It's quite a long trail about 2 hours round trip but the view is definitely worth the effort... It's also quite a deserted trek and not many people travel here... It's a kind of hidden gem... Store staff named Iris(name printed on receipt) is a lier or not well-trained.
She told travelers the only thing you need to get Iceland tax refund is the receipt. Even I asked if she need my passport info to fill out the tax refund form and also asked if I need to present the items to tax refund staff, her answer was “the only thing you need is the receipt at Iceland airport for tax refund”.
Note that you do need a tax refund form with passport information and stamps so you can get tax refund, there is no difference in Iceland than other Europe countries!

I did the one-hour ride as a complete beginner, and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had. The horses were incredibly gentle. The one I rode, Josteinn, was well-behaved and very eager to go (a fast boy haha); he knew exactly where to walk and when to turn.
The staff members were super friendly and gave clear instructions on how to ride. They were attentive throughout the whole tour and took the time to answer all our questions. They also spoke so fondly of their horses, and it’s obvious they take great care of them.
Honestly, with the weather we had (lots of wind and rain), I never expected to enjoy it this much, but the horses didn’t mind at all, and I quickly forgot about the weather too. Just make sure to wear good waterproof clothes ;)

We hebben met z’n vijven de zipline tour in Vik gedaan en het was echt super leuk! We werden begeleid door drie enthousiaste Spanjaarden, waarvan er één nog in opleiding was. The Match
The first edition of the Golf Around the World Cup was held here on the 22/5/2024, and what a match it was. Following an epic sunset hike at Hjorleifshöfði, the match between H & W commenced at 8:30pm.
Matchplay format with rules including (but not limtied to) 5 shots per hole for W (6 shots on holes 1 & 6 cause they long), preferred lie everywhere, and W's airswings incur no penalty.
Did not manage to get all holes in given light was fading, but here's the summary:

2nd H: 4 W: 7 Even

- A clutch 5 on the par 3 last (fraught with bush danger) was an epic way for W to close out the match and take her first lead of the match

Really fun experience. Played til 1030 pm. There are two sets of clubs. Be thoughtful that there may be others who show up and want to play—we shared one bag so another pair could take the other bag. Beautiful views and a unique golf experience. Par 6 to start. Guy on phone was super friendly and helpful. There were only two club rentals available but no big deal… but it was first come first serve. As for the golf itself, I would describe it as a ton of fun but not really a serious course. Kind of a backyard vibe, which still made for a super fun 9 hole round and I’m glad I went. Just a warning to golfers trying to score low or track their handicap… this ain’t it just go out and have fun.

Great find! Early in the day we sought out the coffee shop next door (Skool Beans -- another great find!) and happened across Vik Golf Club. As far as I can tell, it is always on the honor system -- honesty box outside where you pay. Perhaps you'll find a few balls on the practice green or in the bag if you don't have any with you. I actually enjoyed the 4x4 ride out a lot and we had a stop on the black sand that seems like you are on another planet! The hike up was fun and the cave was cool. Joined a guided tour into the Katla Ice Cave and it turned out to be a highlight of the trip. Our guide was fantastic, super friendly and attentive, making sure everyone felt at ease throughout. The glacier walk was awesome, with stunning views and a good dose of history about the glacier that added real depth to the experience. The cave itself was on the smaller side, but that just made it feel more intimate and magical up close, with those ethereal blue walls glowing in the light. A thrilling way to get up close with Iceland's icy wonders.

The tour was worth the money and time. First there is a 40 min drive into the glacier and then the hike up to the caves and around 20 mins inside the cave. The hike and cave is easy to walk (our kids 8 and 10 did it with ease).
The mountains and volcanic black ash covering the mountains and landscape gave an other worldly feel to the landscapes. The cave was a great experience but in late May, the ice had melted due to warm weather, but still a great experience. I bet in winter this is even more beautiful with bluer colors and patterns.
