We stopped here for dinner after a long day of travels. Also our last night in Iceland. We found the atmosphere delightful and charming... cozy little place with an ecclectic collection of tables and chairs, as well as an upstairs seating area. Our server was a wonderful young man (from Hungary) and was very helpful with the menu choices. He had a great sense of humor. The food was excellent! After a morning of diving and sight seeing in wet weather, this place was great to warm up with a cup of coffee and cake. After our table neighbors received their food, I was thinking we probably should have eaten lunch there instead. It looked amazing. Coffee was great, so was the cake. It is a quiet comfy place. We visited the place twice during our stay in Iceland for dinner. There is a wide range of food to choose from fish, butgers or pizza. You also have a great selection of sweets to have with your coffee. We were a group of 16 people and we found a spot to sit both times (split in two). Prices were average for Iceland so expect to pay around 30+ euros per person.
We had fish of the day, which was Ling, the second time was Salmon, but we didn't try. It was served with grilled vegetables, and it was really tasty. We also tried Tower Burger. It was excellent with a strong taste of garlic, which we loved, but if you dont like garlic, maybe choose something else. Finally, we tried the signature pizza. It was also tasty but a bit too heavy. If you order, eat while it's still warm.

My favorite place in Selfoss! This is my second visit because of the great experience I had last time. We came for Saturday lunch, but they were only serving the brunch menu, which had limited options. However, the food was absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful time here ! Service and food were both so wonderful. The fish and chips, Icelandic cheese, truffle fries, and lamb soup were honestly unbeatable. The restaurant is in a Food Hall so I cant pin it on them for the tables being so low that I couldn't get my leggs under them.
The fish'n chips was good, the batter needed a bit more seasoning but it was crispy and the fish was fresh.
The tartar/aoli was good, the coleslaw was really sour, it left a blister in my mouth.
The fries were your normal truffle flavored fries.
The mushroom soup was ok, but the choice of bread they served with it could be better then three chared small slices.

Ordered a Plokkfiskur (fish stew) and fish and chips. This stall exceeded all expectations!
The fish and chips was fabulous. The batter was super light and the fish was very soft and juicy. The truffle fries (or rather truffle oil infused) was deep fried really well. Likewise, the plokkfiskur was very tasty and very well seasoned. A very satisfying meal, and an even greater bonus given that the price was generally lower than what you expect at restaurants!

The BEST of the best! This is in the food hall. They have separated vegan menu. I gotta said it’s the best vegan food in Iceland. I love their mushroom soup so much to the point that I had it for dinner, the next day for lunch and then after golden circle I came back for dinner, just to have their mushroom soup. The vegan steak sandwich is off the chart too. Also their fries are made by order. It’s fresh, it’s hot, it’s crispy, it’s perfect! Oh did I also mention it’s truffle fries?! The best of this place is their staff. 10 out of 10. Everyone was so kind and generous to us. The last dinner I came in last minute because I was waiting outside for northern lights. They could’ve not served the food but the girl who worked at the front and the chef agreed to give me mushroom soup. I cannot thank them enough. Hands down. Highly highly recommend it! It’s a must try!

C’est un food court dans cette jolie petite ville. Il y a une dizaine de restaurants différents à l’intérieur (asiat, burger, pizza, islandais,…) et le prix reste raisonnable pour l’islande. This was honestly a highlight in our trip, great food at affordable prices (for iceland) in a cozy atmosphere and it really feels homey.
The concept is one building, multiple restaurants with shared seating, that can be a downside for some as instead of private tables they mostly have huge long tables and you sit next to strangers but i found it endearing.
We had food from the Thai place the number 4(beef, rice in oyster sauce) and number 7(chicken noodles with veg and egg) . I hope i didn’t get the numbers wrong.

There are places you walk into and immediately know you’re in the right spot. That’s exactly what happened when I stepped into Lilly & Julia's Kitchen. The décor, with vinyl records, books, and VHS tapes, gives the feeling of a truly personalised space.
The menu arrived — not very extensive, but with options to suit all tastes, including a vegetarian choice.
But what really matters was tasting the food. For starters, we ordered baked brie with mango chutney, and for the main course, a chicken burger. I could say it was excellent, but that wouldn’t be enough. What I enjoyed most were the details — the accompanying sauce was delicious, and instead of the usual fries that come with a burger, there were potatoes that seemed oven-roasted.
For dessert, I had a strawberry and rhubarb tart with meringue, perfectly balanced — sweet, without being overly so.

Wonderful place! Had to stop in Selfoss to have dinner and this place was more than satisfactory. Servers were so nice, they were very helpful with dietary restrictions.
We tried the goose and the reindeer pate as appetizers, and had lamb, cod and seafood pasta. The lamb was divine, the cod was very flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the seafood pasta was one of the best I’ve ever tried.
The prices were on the higher end, but everything e had fulfilled our expectations.

We had the Artic Char and it was probably the best fish I’ve ever eaten in my life. The crispy skin, the perfectly cooked meat of the fish, the white wine and oil. Perfectly prepared, beautifully served with fennel, potatoes and turnip. Classic Icelandic fare. The perfect meal for us to end our trip on! This is a traditional Icelandic food and restaurant which is the main reason I booked this place. However, because of that, it’s NOT a vegan/vegetarian friendly restaurant. They serve fermented shark and whale meat (in 2025) and all kind of other traditional Icelandic food. Because of that, I had to go somewhere else to eat (luckily there is a food hall nearby) we did order drinks and appetizers like broccoli and bake brea. They tasted yummy. The drink was excellent. "Pylsuvagninn" basically means "hot dog car" in Icelandic; apparently it was originally a cart when it started in the 1980s, and upgraded over time to a small building. Byrja is located near the main roundabout in the centre of Selfoss. It also about as close to an American style dinner that we found while traveling around Iceland. They are open from 7am to 3pm (weekdays) and 8am to 4pm (weekends). They have a fair-sized seating area inside. Menu includes breakfast and lunch sections.
We had a nice breakfast here recently. Short stack pancakes with syrup and butter tasted just like those served Stateside. Avocado Toast was decent. Ingredients fresh enough but avocado not quite ripe. Home fries were very good, as were the hash browns ordered alongside the pancakes. Coffees were fine. Service friendly and fairly quick, prices reasonable for dish portions and food quality. Would be fine to eat here again for breakfast.

One of the few/ only sit down breakfast spots in Selfoss that serves breakfast late. We got here around 10:30am and ordered two Swiss mochas, which I would’ve gotten without whipped cream next time, and two classic eggs Benedict’s with hashbrowns and a breakfast burrito with potatoes to share. Unfortunately the tickets didn’t print so we ended up getting our food 35 mins after we ordered it and watched people sit down after us get served and leave while we still hadn’t gotten our food. Sadly one of our Benedict’s ended up being luke warm almost cold, but still good and the hashbrowns and potatoes were really good. The breakfast burrito was stuffed with refried beans and lots of green peppers which we didn’t know so we wouldn’t get that again. Good hospitality and they gave us a small discount for the inconvenience which was nice. Overall a good place just had a few hiccups.

We stayed at Hotel South Coast during our trip around Iceland and bumped into Mar while exploring the town.
It’s a beautiful and cosy and charming restaurant in the center of a small square with amazing fresh food. We had the fish stew and cod tongues and dear god it was delicious.
Staff is friendly and excellent. I saw some other reviewers commenting on waiting time, but it didn’t take long for us (and others) to get our food.
It was one best dishes I had during my stay in Iceland. And we did a round-trip! 😘

We ordered the smoked haddock (way too salty), arctic char (tasted more like trout or salmon), and wolfish (bitter aftertaste and tasted overdone) and were very disappointed with all 3 dishes.
We went because of the excellent reviews and the menu posted on google (now outdated - cod salad was no longer on the menu) but found the arctic char very bland (could be any fish) and the wolfish and sauce tasteless. Everything was drenched in oil and butter (that's simply cheating) but none were stellar. Bill came to 14500 isk. Not worth it for what we got.

We had a wonderful stay here! We highly recommend this place. We needed assistance locking our door as we weren’t familiar with the lock. Within 5 min someone had drove over and kindly educated us. Our house was located on the back of the property so we got a view of all they had to offer. It felt homey and welcoming like arriving at a close family member’s house, both inside and outside. At first I was disappointed it was so far from actual Selfoss but the views at night of the Northern lights made up for that…it’s not in Selfoss it’s about 20 minutes away. So I wanted a place more to walk around and grab dinner and coffee since we would be staying in more rural Vik and Hella. This is all by itself but the accommodations are beautiful - we had a suite so there was a heated gas fire place that was so nice in the chilly evening. Then it was so clear we drove just down the street and parked at a power station pull off and got some amazing shots of the northern lights. They were the best we saw while in Iceland.

After a long day of snorkeling Silfra and exploring Thingvellir, we were tired and starving. After a full day of exploring, we stopped for dinner in Selfoss. We found this amazing place for dinner. It’s on the pricey side, but ohemgee it’s worth it!
I had the Icelandic fish stew, which was more like a pot pie. It was really thick and absolutely drool worthy. It’s made with cod, bernaise, potatoes, and cheese. It’s as good as it sounds.
My friend had the curry cod dish that was really good.
I cannot say enough good things about Icelandic butter and bread 🤤 we asked for more bread so we could share.

We were supposed to stay at their sister hotel, Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon but were unable to keep our reservation due to road closures and weather. This is the hotel we were transferred to. I would describe our experience here as average. It would be much nicer if the hot tubs were indoor as it can be quite cold in the winter months to sit in water that is only 40 degrees celsius. The hot tubs also appeared like they had not been cleaned in quite some time. The rooms were clean and comfortable but the hallway always had a strange smell. Not sure if it was the cleaning products or something else. The rooms were cleaned each day but no coffee supplies were replaced except the mugs. The dining room and breakfast buffet experience were exceptional. Food was delicious and service was great! As expected, the dinner menu was quite expensive. Only point of contention is guests do not have access to coffee throughout the day. While grabbing a quick cup of coffee in the afternoon, I was politely advised that coffee is only available during breakfast. If you want to keep your guests extra happy, the least you could do is provide coffee 24/7. Especially considering the cost per night. All in all, our experience was average and I'm thankful we did not have to rebook another hotel. However, given the choice I would probably not stay here again.

The landscape is great and you can see Hekla in the distance. There is a fire place in the bar-lounge area and that makes for a great evening experience. Two hot-tubs and a sauna also on premises. We stayed for 6 nights. Really lovely hotel, not too far from Route 1 and thus an easy drive to most of the spots on the Golden Circle. The food was very good, a decent selection for breakfast however we had dinner at the restaurant just once as it was quite expensive (although this is the norm for most of Iceland to be fair).
The hot tubs are brilliant, particularly in the evening where you can lie back and relax for a bit of stargazing - or, if you were as lucky as us, you might even see the Northern lights (we got an amazing show on our first night)!
Staff were friendly and helpful too. Rooms were comfortable enough, however some of the decor was a little worn / dated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others!

Hate to say this but had the worst customer experience in this store while in Iceland.
We were a small group and one of the guys in the group had bought coffee while I went to the w/c. While coming out of the w/c the person at the counter (old male) was very rude to me saying I need to pay as I myself hadn't bought anything. I was trying to reason out that my friend in the group had bought a coffee and wouldn't that suffice. He started screaming that I cannot use the w/c unless I buy something for myself.
I then bought a coffee and left the shop for good. Never ever going to return to this shop and guys like this should never run cafes' let alone be in the hospitality sector. Avoid at all cost.

5th time in Iceland, 1st bad experience. Bad representation of the locals, they are great!
The bar itself is fine — drinks are okay, the space is decent. But the crowd it brings in? Totally ruined the day. Obnoxious, and clearly not there to enjoy themselves respectfully.
What really crossed the line was how the “people”treated our group, especially our mother. The behavior was inappropriate, uncomfortable, and just made the whole place feel extremely unsafe. It was the kind of atmosphere where you’re constantly on edge, watching your back, and wondering why anyone would come here for a good time.
Definitely won’t be returning. If you care about having a respectful, relaxed night out, this isn’t the place. Do not enter if you’re not a local.
