I’m honestly considering going to Oceanic instead. I was served a plate of food that had a long, straight brown hair in it—very clearly not from anyone in my group or our server (who had curly hair). Some of the staff members did have hair that matched, though. That alone was extremely off-putting. We flagged down a manager, but instead of addressing us directly, she passed the issue to our female server, who was the only one to apologize and ask if I’d like the dish remade. I said yes, because I understand mistakes can happen. It took about 10 minutes to get a new plate. Then things got worse. We came at 1pm, the peak hour for restaurant, it was full but yet we had our table immediately. We loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, it seemed that it had renovated from an old building. For an appetizer we got the crab dip, which was decent, but didn't offer enough bread to actually use all of the dip despite the $17 item. My partner ordered the seafood platter which wasn't anything spectacular to talk about, just a platter of fried items. I ordered the shrimp and grits out of one of the waitresses recommendations, and it was definitely not great, I felt a little sick after eating. The menu really doesnt describe this dish accurately and does not portray an "NC" style shrimp and grits dish. This tasted and looked much more like a jambalaya, creole, Louisiana cuisine of some sort. There were very large pieces of im assuming mushrooms which caught my eye first, which was fine, but I dont like to not understand what I'm eating and again, the dish really was not explained correctly or thoroughly on the menu at all. Again, we don't have to try to make things fancy to make them good. The grits were pretty cheesy, did not get the "green chile" at all. The shrimp seemed a little under done to me. Lastly, but not least important, it was a big greasy mess and could have been why I felt sick. I ate was I could because I was hungry and didn't want to feel like I was being a downer to my partner, but you can especially see in the takeout box all of the grease that had separated. Boy were were disappointed and kind of shocked at the food. I ordered the lunch special which was a chicken fajita bowl. My husband ordered the beef brisket sandwich. I laughed at him but honestly that is exactly what the fajita bowl tasted like. The food is definitely very generous amount at a reasonable price. They also have flavored lemonade which changes frequently, I want to say daily. Our personal favorite is blueberry basil but they only had it once during our last visit but it's delicious. We also enjoy sitting on the patio outside and it's covered with cloth sails which provides nice shade. It does overlook the parking lot so no sweeping views but it's just nice to be outside and it's pet friendly👍🏻❤️ This latest trip was the 1st time that we have gone for breakfast, I'm not sure why we have never had breakfast at Blue Surf but nevertheless it was our 1st time! Also recommend getting the cheese plate. The worst part of it was, when we finally did get the drink, It tasted watered-down and flavorless. She had sacrificed all the flavor and let it get diluted in order to over-exaggerate her efforts and teach us some kind of lesson. The order was placed, I pulled up 17 mins later and this is my take on the 2nd visit. FOOD: Hibachi Steak (ordered medium) with fried rice, veggies and their house, white sauce. Teriyaki Chicken with fried rice and white sauce. My personal meal was the steak and I was impressed for round 2! The steak was cooked as I ordered it, the food was hot, the veggies delivered that fresh "crunch" without being al dente and the rice was cooked well. Each bite of steak was juicy and hit me with blasts of flavor, as if the meat had been marinated for 24 hours. I mean, it isn't Wagyu Beef imported from Japan kinda quality, but It was very good for a local to-go restaurant. My wife's chicken also possessed this same wonderful flavor effect ...but the chicken was slightly on the drier side, thus, requiring the included white sauce mixed in to help rehydrate the bird. A few grains of the rice in this dish were slightly al dente, with smaller clumps of steamed rice, not getting fully "fried" up. This dish wasn't terrible but, after eating the steak entree, I wouldn't order the chicken again. Just my take on it though. SCORE: 3.7 STARS!! SERVICE: As I walked into Hibachi To Go, I was greeted briefly by the young gentleman attending the counter. The interior is closed for dine-in, all chairs were stacked on top of the tables and there are sanitizing stations as soon as you walk in. Masks are required, the staff were wearing them properly and I noticed gloves being worn. Well done on the COVID-safety measures. Your restaurant appeared to be as sterile as a hospital! The customer service given by the young man was acceptable; he was kind, soft spoken and accommodating. Chop sticks were included, 2 additional white sauces were offered at no charge (maybe due to a 5 min wait inside?) and there were plenty of packs of soy sauce. Although I wasn't "blown away" by the level of service provided, it was still good and I felt welcomed for my brief stay inside. SCORE: 4 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: This second visit was a vast improvement over the first visit almost 2 years ago. Not sure what changes have been made, but it looks like it worked with the current staff now. The steak entree was very good, gave me value for my dollar and I was satisfyingly full. If the chicken had not cooked for a minute too long, I think it could have been easily as good. With the chicken being more on the dry side and random clumps of rice not being cooked properly, I probably won't order this dish again. The prices here are really pretty good. The restaurant is in the Seven Mile Post pub requiring you to join the membership of the pub to get in; the cost is one dollar. It was early with only a few other patrons. The bartender was attentive and patient. The custom made beverage specials and specialties were interesting and delightful. There is an outdoor courtyard which perhaps accommodates smokers, however we didn’t investigate that prospect.
