It was by far my husband and my favorite part of visiting (primarily Newport, RI). The scenery is beautiful and seeing the history reflected in clothes, architecture, tools and crafts is just so neat. The themes of the event were on the darker side of things, which is expected for Halloween, but it was appropriate for the time periods, not grotesque and no jump scares. Tastefully done. The event started at 4:30 and the parking attendants were not set up until maybe 4:45pm. They should really have people there assessing the parking well before the event because there were tons of spots randomly open but by that time group mentality sets in and you tend to follow the car in front of you. We had intended to eat at the event but the lines were super long. Not all good stands have the same items so we walked to the side stands and we're disappointed to see you can only get basic theme park food that wasn't gluten free friendly. I was willing to just eat some chips or popcorn but my husband didn't want to spend half an hour waiting for an expensive sandwich that wasn't going to even fill him up. More food tents and options would be nice. We ended up leaving around 6pm to get food which was a bummer.

We were never warned about our pace of play by a course ranger (none was seen) and we did not think we were playing particularly slow, but we did have a newer golfer playing with us, so we were not exactly speedy. Then we get to the 9th hole…when we got to the green in front of the clubhouse…as we were preparing to chip to the green for our final hole…the course manager suddenly appears and begins to yell at us to “get moving” and “wrap things up”…as we had “already been out there for 3 hours”, and people had been complaining about us. We were honestly shocked, as no one had said anything to us about our pace…and we were basically finished anyway! We quickly apologized and proceeded to finish our hole…angry, embarrassed and shocked that he would yell at us like that without any warning whatsoever…in front of the clubhouse with lots of people on the deck watching. When I went to return the keys to the cart, I attempted to smooth things over and explain how we were delayed at the beginning of our round, because we let a foursome play through, and that the other players all appeared to be in a League playing “best ball” (which is inherently faster than standard play). I have never in my life had that kind of reaction or response from any manager or anyone who is in a service position. We did not respond…and left as quickly as possible…never to return. I am not sure if he was just having a bad day…or what might have happened to set him off like that, but there really is NO excuse for that kind of treatment to patrons of any facility…golf course or otherwise. Everything was absolutely delicious and my meal was prepared, portioned, cooked to perfection, and served hot! The steak was definitely aged meat and it melted in my mouth. No twinsy holes, lots of elevation changes, with relatively flat greens. The course starts at the highest point around and drops down and back up, so there are some hill climbs. While some of them are steep they are short, so walk it if you're in decent shape. If you'd hike Wachusett with a golf bag on your back you'd have no problem here. It's also got decent facilities, including a driving range. The practice green is sort of weird... but functional enough. We played Nov '25, so I can't comment on pace of play. I also didn't eat there so... The views are nice when you're at or near the clubhouse, but otherwise there aren't any houses or development around the course. Other than golfers, it's pretty secluded, on the back 9 in particular. The course is pretty much a "what you see" type of place. Not a lot of doglegs to judge or that kind of thing. Most of the approach shots were also straightforward. The only real thing is clearing fairway bunkers and finding the right tier/section of the green. Hole 9 was something like 60 yards front to back, so you probably want to know where the pin is at. And a couple others would give you a pretty tricky putt if you're on the wrong tier. I also saw a couple double breakers. The breaks were subtle and the grain was in play. Again, played in November. It got 4 stars because they screwed up the tee time. Called on Monday and when we showed up they had no record. They were nice enough, there was no hassle, and we got out without incident 10 minutes earlier than we thought. So it worked out, and it was handled professionally. Lucky for us it was November and not Father's day. It's a decent course for the money with an interesting layout. If you're in the area you could do worse.

The food at the buffet was more than ample - I went up to the buffet after most of the guests and I saw there were a few portions left of one of the brunch dishes. I was going to ask the staff to refill it but before I got back to my table the staff had brought out a fresh tray. We had a breakfast buffet at our hotel that morning and they were constantly running out of food and with no personnel around to restock the platters. What a difference! Everything was delicious- I enjoyed the chicken and salad especially. I don't know why the dressing tasted so good! The guests really enjoyed themselves. It was almost to the end of the shower that I noticed the coffee was low and I mentioned it to our coordinator and she immediately replaced it. We had such a great time- when things run like clockwork as they did at Fins and Tales on June 8th, it takes pressure off the host so that they can focus on mingling with the guests and other tasks such as running the shower games. As the guests left they told me that they had a great time. We were all very pleased that we chose Fins and Tales for our venue.

This campground is absolutely amazing, it went way beyond my expectations. I rented a dog friendly cabin and was able to take my dog with me. I love that I was able to go online and choose my location, it was absolutely perfect. The cabin was really well kept, super clean and came with everything we needed. I liked that there was an updated air-conditioning system, a stove top, microwave and toaster, along with utensils. I was happy to see that we had our own deck with a picnic table and a firepit on our cabin site. Our site was next to a hiking trail that was a bit overgrown and we couldn't find the path but there's countless hiking trails really close by, some even within walking distance. The location is remote enough to feel like you're in the middle of nowhere feel but there's plenty of resturants and grocery stores nearby. The pool was wonderful, really clean and well-kept, not overly chlorinated and there were plenty of lounge chairs and tables and a hot tub which was really nice. There's bathsuites around the campground which are really convenient and I was impressed with how clean they were. We also rented a kayak and had a lot of fun! The staff was so friendly and helpful which I really appreciated, they answered any questions I had and the woman who checked me in was really nice. The check-in area/store had a good variety of items and fair prices. I appreciated that there's a gate code you have to use if you leave and come back after hours, it made me feel safer. Walking my dog around I met so many friendly people, everyone was so nice, happy and relaxed. The campground is really well kept and beautiful, it's taken care of very well. Before a friend had recommended Pine Lake to me I was about to spend nearly 3x as much at another campground, I couldn't believe how fair the prices were! It's very affordable, especially for all the amenities and comfort that you're getting. I needed some time away and some peace and I absolutely found that at Pine Lake. I've been recommending this place to any and everyone and this campground is my family's new place that we plan on visiting at least once a year, hopefully more, as often as we can! Highly recommended!

There is not much in this area outside the park. The only Walmart is an older, smaller Walmart and not a super store. We had visited in the offseason to book our site, but pulling in this place this past weekend, it looked like a different park. The grounds are well kept, the facilities were clean, bathrooms were really nice and the staff were great. Our site was spacious and level. The hook up all worked as they should. We were with in seconds of a bath house and laundry room, and only a couple minute walk to the pool. The pool was very nice and not overly crowded surprisingly. I will say the chlorine was a little overwhelming and the kids that were there each day were little terrors at times with the splashing. But it's to be expected. The store has what you need, they offer the essentials. Wood can be delivered to your site. They had an onsite bar, snack shack, billiards room, fitness center, event room, and they had a live band on Saturday. And if that wasnt enough bang for your buck, each night they hosted a movie night on a huge projector screen on the courtyard. They had nice fire pits to sit at and picnic tables too. But it's a resort, and for the cost, I think it was worth every penny we spent. We will be definitely re booking here for next season.
