We had a great visit to the summit of Cannon Mountain on the Aerial Tramway. The operator gave an interesting commentary on the way up. The views were amazing and we were very lucky with the weather. Highly recommend the short loop trail at the top and visit to the tower. Please note this facility we be closing on 26th October 2025 as they are replacing the cable cars. The guide said it may take up to 2 years.

This was a great hike, beautiful views and a moderate climb to get them.
We hiked from the lesser known trail head down by Indian Head. We only passed a few groups and it was memorial day weekend!
Anyway, about 1.9 miles each way, no crazy rock scramble, mostly in wooded areas with a small amount of trail water to handle.
Well worth the views and doable for an active family with little ones.

For me I love a good waterfall at the end of a trail destination that says "waterfall hike". Sadly there was no waterfall but some water cascading over and around smooth carved granite. I also like hikes with some rocks and roots to climb. This hike is about 7 miles total on a flat abandoned railroad. The last 200' or so starts to have a lil elevation with mild roots and rocks to climb. It was pretty at the top where the water cascades a lil over rocks but no waterfall so don't get all excited to see a waterfall at the end.
I definitely prefer the Basin Cascade trail which is like the very top of this Franconia trail but has granite water cascades the whole entire trail that you can either hike on cascades themselves or the adjacent trail.
I'd probably rate this lower for me but for those wanting a 7 mile flat trail this is good for them. Looking at past reviews it could be better if you are a strong swimmer and know where to water slide down the rocks.
I noticed after I was done that bikes are allowed and wish I ride my bike down that trail.

This was a very disappointing hike despite being pretty long, almost seven miles. The majority of the trail is long, flat, and very dull. The end of the trail with the 'waterfall' was unimpressive and very crowded. There are way better places in the area if you would like to hike to a waterfall, like Kinsman Falls at the Basin. Also beware that there is a parking fee here and the volunteers actively come out into the parking lot to check who has paid to park and who hasn't. Overall not worth the very long trek.

This is an awesome trail to do any time of year. It's the best on a hot, hot summer day so you can enjoy the water which is always cold, really cold. You can jump into the pool created by the falls or slide down the "chute" and into the pool. If you have kids going in, make sure they are strong swimmers and do not get pulled I to and under the falls. It's beautiful and fun, but also very dangerous if you're not careful.

The hike was definitely tough, pretty much all uphill. However the views were so worth it! Make sure you're paying attention to the red markers, you can make it all the way to the last waterfall by following the river and it's beautiful. You can swim along the way to cool down on hot days.

Although it was one of the quickest 4kers I've done, the constant uphill coming up Liberty Spring was brutal! The last 0.6 miles up from the campsite to the summit felt like forever. I have not been able to get new hiking boots yet, so I was trying to summit Liberty and Flume in reverse to avoid the slide. I was unable to get Flume. Hopefully some day, but if not, no worries. 32 of 62 today is still good.

Personally, this was the most challenging hike I have ever done. The terrain started steep and ended steep, it seemed never ending. It was about 3.5 hours up and 3 hours down. I didn’t think I would make it to the top but after many many breaks for water, for my legs, and for snacks, I made it to the top. Their was no views the whole hike until I got to the very top. And my god was it worth it. I’ve never seen any view like it. I would recommend if your looking for a challenge but definitely not for beginners.

The bald peak drops off to cliffs on the north and west sides creating interesting features to enjoy on the summit. Every route to Mt. I’m a beginner hiker (I’ve done 6 easy and moderate hikes prior to this). I exercise and I’m in otherwise healthy shape. Thus, I understood that I had to prepare accordingly for this strenuous hike and it would take me longer than the standard experienced hiker.
Did the hike early May, 2024. Parked at Bridle trailhead and went up the pathway with waterfalls. The wayerfalls along the way were beautiful and we didn’t get wet or sprayed by them. There was icey snow and steep rock scramble for the last 1 mile leading up to haystack mountain, which required crampons and poles for safety. I found this part to be scary due to the steep incline, but fortunately made it up safe. We relaxed a bit when we got to Haystack and proceeded to make our way through the ridge to Mount Lafayette. Both of us found this to be the most challenging part of the hike because there was high wind levels, which was troubling combined with the fact that the ridges are narrow to walk through as is. None of the other reviews prepared me for this part, as I’m sure wind varies day by day. In addition, the narrowness and rocky composition of parts of the ridge, which spans a long distance, can have poor consequences if caution is not practiced.
When we got to Mount Lafayette, we headed straight down to the Greenleaf hut, where there was a friendly caretaker preparing for the season (they allow overnight lodging and even provide dinner/meals for overnight guests). Refilled water at the hut and headed down. The hike took an overall 11 hours for us with breaks and an hour for lunch at the top. The hike down took less than 3 hours.
Overall, I’m proud of myself for being able to to do this hike without much challenge. I found it to be fun and worth every ounce of effort because of the panoramic views. I’m a beginner hiker and still found it exhilarating! It’s one not NH hike I’ve done this far with 360 views of the landscape. My advice is to do the hike in the warmer, summer months to avoid snow and having to use crampons (risk of injury).

This is a very popular trail for the following reasons:
1) From little Haystack to Mt Lafayette (about 2 miles) there are uninterrupted scenic views on both sides of the trail.
2) This is a loop, so it is more interesting returning along the same route.
3) Part of the route is the Appalachian trail.
4) The loop includes nice waterfalls.
5) It's very easy to get to the trailhead from Boston (it's right off of I-93).
Things to keep in mind:
1) It is very crowded on the weekends and the trailhead parking lot feels up quickly. You must arrive early to get a spot (around 7-7:30am in the morning). There is an overflow lot, but it adds an extra mile. If possible, hike this on a weekday when there are much fewer people.
2) There are water crossings along the Falling Waters Trail. In the spring, there can be a lot of water, making these crossings challenging and slippery.
3) The trail is steep going up, but there isn't really anything in the way of scrambles/climbing.
My recommendation is to take the Falling Waters Trail going up and head back down via the Greenleaf hut. Falling waters is steeper and thus easier to hike up than down (in my opinion). Also, this give you a water station on the way down at Greenleaf to fill up your water in case you run out. You can also purchase food and drinks at Greenleaf, and on cold days it's a good place to warm up after being on the summit.

Hiked the 3900 feet elevation gain gradually uphill almost the entire way to Lafayette. Spectacular sunny July with amazing views from the highest point on the Franconia circuit. Thne over to Licoln, Liberty, Little Haystack. Rested and decided to run to the Flume without poles. Mistake. Dropped 700 feet then went up and the legs were asking me why I thought I should leave the poles. Was glad to get back to my pack and headed down the steep rocky trail from Liberty. Absolutely beautiful day hike. It’s a difficult trail, but still manageable. The views are very rewarding! On a good day, you can do the whole loop in about 7 hours. The park ranger advised us to start along the waterfall trail and not the old bridle path, because the waterfall trail can get steep. We did it the other way though and were fine. If you are hiking with dogs, there will be some area where you will have to lift/assist your dog descent.

Our family loved the gorge and caves. We’ve been to NH a few times, but our kids are on the younger side so this was a first for us. The boardwalk is not only a great help to get through the gorge, its craftsmanship is amazing. The hand railings are rounded and smooth, and we were even able to chat with one of the carpenters on our visit as he installed a new section of boardwalk.
The caves themselves are not really caves in the traditional sense, rather the negative space between boulders and the earth & other boulders. That didn’t detract from their awesomeness as it’s amazing to think that these giant boulders were moved by ice.
We spent about 2 hours going through the caves and doing the extra loop through the suspension bridge. My boys tried a few caves more than once and even made it through the Lemon Squeeze! The main building looks newer, is very clean and comfortable. There isn’t somewhere to sit in the shade, but we weren’t there long enough to really miss that’s however, if you brought a lunch or had someone in your party who needed to wait this one out, there are some picnic tables surrounding the main building.

There are a few places in NH that I had been wanting to visit, this was one of them. I wasnt sure how it was going to be, because at first I thought it was a hike but its more like a Museum so there is a entrance fee but it was well worth it.
I kind of wish I brought my little nieces and nephews because all this time I was focus on the waterfall and bridges but there were so many unique crevasse and caves, that aspect of the exploration was a unique adventure they would have absolutely loved.
It was not to difficult in the walking (I am a big guy), but there are alot of steps and inclines but its tolerable. Also love some of the unique wood carvings on the additional rites as well.
There is also a rich history which was refreshing to learn about that I want to go back and study some more.
Parking is a little tricky, there is alot of parking but it does get somewhat packed.
Overall nice experience, worth a stop if your in the area.

Well maintained and safe platforms and trails throughout. A lot to see. Very physical so not a great option for those with limited mobility but if you are in good shape, it’s a really cool place! We had a blast visiting here. We did all but 1 of the caves. At 6' tall it wasn't happening. Lots of solid built stairs leading all around the boulders. Great platforms for some nice scenery shots, especially the large nest at the end. A great place to visit during a hot day. The temps are much better in and around the caves. Such a peaceful place to visit. Nice clean restrooms in the main building along with a gift shop. I highly recommend visiting this place.

We had an amazing time, (2 adults, a 2yo, and a 6yo) we felt that the stairs, boardwalks and caves were very well maintained and that alone seemed worth the ticket price. We felt safe the whole route, staff seemed to be present and floating around. There were first aid kits periodically and everything was well marked. Our 2yo had to be carried on and off through the boardwalk but we anticipated that. Roughly 1000 steps through the gorge and boulder caves and we did it in about an hour. We skipped some of the caves due to our size as grown-ups but there were plenty that we were able to make. If my 6yo was a little older or more adventurous she may have been able to do more. But we had fun nonetheless!! It's a very cool experience, family friendly and I would definitely recommend! I'd suggest good shoes and long pants for the best experience and be willing to bear crawl a bit!

This is a great waterpark in a sense that you can use it as just lounging. There’s plenty of free chairs to sit in shade or sun not overcrowded, but as for thrillseeking, this does not have any thrill seeking to it.
I didn’t find the waterslides to be anything I wanted to go on more than once but I did stay from 10 to 5 using the pools the lazy river and people watching the atmosphere was great. It was not overcrowded.

Was pleasantly surprised! Took our two boys (ages 7 and 13) there not expecting it to be a hit. Got there when it opened and secured a cabana by the wave pool. They had nice live music, the rides were great, and the place was super clean. From the road it doesnt look like much, but once you get in there it is a blast! The lazy river was very relaxing, and they have three big hot tubs for hanging out as well. For little kids, they have little spray attractions with pirate ships and wading pools. The wave pool was a big hit as well. I love that you can bring your own food and coolers, too. We will be back!

Went as part of a large group. Informed to enter at the group entrance but then had to call and ask someone to come let the group in. Kids were extremely happy with the park itself. Clean, plenty of lifeguards and amble seating. I gave three stars because we attended on August 1st and one dining option was closed. The other dining option had chicken tenders, fries, hot dogs and burgers. Salads were listed but none in the cooler. When I asked about the salads the worker said they were out. When I explained that I was gluten free and had hoped for a salad to eat, she told me there was one left and I could have it. Not impressed that dining does not have all that is listed as selling, especially since it was still the height of summer.

One of my favorite waterfalls and hikes!
It's on the Kancamagus highway and White Mountain National Forest. It's a .6 mile round trip hike, easy for the little ones too. There was ample parking and it's a nicely maintained area.
The waterfall has multiple levels and a gorge. I really love the wooden bridges, viewing platforms, and railings, it reminded me of the Enders Falls in Granby, CT. My family and I enjoyed the hike and the views. It's a beautiful spot and worth a visit!

Absolutely stunning hike! The views at the top are gorgeous — especially in the fall with all the colorful trees below. The trail is a moderate loop with a good bit of incline, so be ready for a workout, but it’s well worth it for the panoramic payoff.
There’s a big parking lot right across from the ski resort, and even some porta-potties available, which is super convenient. If you start the loop to the right, expect a steep climb and a bit of a rock scramble near the top (you’ll be using all fours for a stretch!). If you go left toward the Bald Mountain side, it’s a gentler incline and much easier footing — you can even use that route both up and down if you’d rather skip the scramble.
Overall, this trail is a must-do in Franconia Notch. Quick, scenic, and absolutely breathtaking at the summit!

Rocks and roots are like stairs straight up the mountain, but slippery and would be very challenging for toddlers, elderly, and out-of-shape people. There is one major sign at an important junction, but it seems like some mischievous person may have tampered with it. It was absolutely an amazing hike to the mountain and it was filled with beautiful views all around. I did the loop trail and it was very hard for me. I knew it was not and easy hike (reading online) and thought I "trained" (lol) well enough. Going up was hard but going down was even harder. Hiked this one couple weeks back and was covered in snow. Wind gusts close to 40-50mph so definitely layer up more than you think you need. Also, had Snow boots and Spikes on. Didn’t need that much water due to the cold but some water sources on the way for refill. Hike is gorgeous and more challenging than you think so definitely recommended. Wow 😲! Even with the drought, it's beautiful! Very tall! I wonder what this waterfall looks like when there isn't a drought? I was able to get to the top from a connecting trail. The trail to get to the falls is moderate to difficult, but, children and pets traversed it. The trail to get to the top 🔝, where there is another waterfall, is difficult with lots of (I am Groot) roots and narrow pathways. The top has an incredible view of the mountains. There are a few pools to sit in at the bottom, so you may want to bring a swimsuit.
There is parking 🅿️ available at the entrance and by RT 302. Have $5 ready. Checks and cash are accepted, but not credit/debit cards. They do check vehicles.
Bring good hiking 🥾 shoes, waterproof if possible. Bug 🐛🪲 repellent, water and and a pair of hiking poles would not hurt.
They are working on the entrance and placing a new set of stairs. You have to cross a railroad track to get the trail.
If you are disabled, have mobility or weight issues, I would not recommend this visit. It is a good trail for those who are wanting experience with hiking.

The walking is easy it used to be a train track some wood planks are still across the walking path with spikes in the still. We hiked to the falls then back. The way up took us almost 3 hours because we made 3 pit stops along the way and the way back took just under an hour and a half. We saw many people swimming in the waterfall area but we were not dressed appropriately for swimming however it looked fun and probably was so refreshing. We did sit on the giant rocks and have lunch we had packed. We saw a ton of people walking dogs, running, and riding bikes. The only bird we saw was a wood pecker. Surprisingly there were so little bugs, but we still put on bug spray just in case. Definitely should have worn hiking shoes…. Did this in adidas sambas and my dogs are definitely barking.

I got dropped off here by family. I wanted to knock off a bunch of 4000 footers. So I was off to do 12 of them by hiking the Frankconia ridge loop. We were hiking Lonesome Lake to the Basin, but while approaching Rocky Glen Falls, the Appalachian scenic trail was flooded by Cascade Brook which became a rushing river and blocked the trail. Arriving around 11 AM and just starting to look for parking? Well… that’s also everyone else’s plan 😅
There are no painted lines in the parking lot, so cars tend to park wherever they feel like it — sometimes creating “creative” (read: illegal) spots. If you get stuck in parking-lot traffic, have your copilot hop out and help direct cars (yes, you’ll feel like a mini traffic officer 🚦).
This trail is beautiful but very easy, which means very crowded. If you prefer a quieter foliage hike, I’d recommend Mount Major instead.

Beautiful view and hike. Take the loop clockwise so that you're climbing down the steepest part instead of up (I think that's why there are mixed reviews on if this is a moderate or hard hike). Bald Mountain was beautiful too but harder (steeper) to get to. If you plan on going in the fall, be prepared for the place to be more packed than Disney World. I have never had to wait in a line on a hike but on this one we were stuck with probably close to a hundred people all trying to get up/down a narrow, steep climb. It more than doubled the amount of time that hike would've normally taken us.

Just over 3 miles that took us 1 hour to go up and 1 hour to descend with a small group of mixed level hikers. Hundreds of cars parked as far as the eye can see on a Saturday in October at 11am. Single file all the way up because of the crowds and crowds and crowds. We enjoyed a wonderful hike via Mount Willard trail on a beautiful sunny morning. We were greeted by a big black moose across the lake soon after we arrived. The weather was perfect. Because I walked up in my record setting slow pace, I would say it’s an easy hike. If my kids were considering giving up, I would just stop and rest until they were ready to go again. We stopped here on the way through to our cabin, and it was one of only a couple places open in town. It’s definitely busy for that reason, lots of families and kids playing. It’s definitely family-oriented. We ordered a flight, 2 meat platter, and a Brutus (chicken salad). The 2 meat platter was good - not the best meat platter ever, but the brisket and sausage were solid. The highlight for me were the cowboy beans - smokey, sweet. The salad was very limited in terms of greens - maybe 3 very loosely chopped romaine leaves, untossed salad for $12. The Mac & cheese, by comparison, looked like it was about 1.5-2lbs, for only $3 more. Not particularly good value in that department. The beers were good - the DIPA was awesome, and we liked the cider a lot.

I don’t write reviews often. However this experience is worth to mention. I got a ski lesson package at Loon Mountain.
My primary instructor was Steve. He was excellent! He used to practice medicine (I am a resident physician too) he gave the examples in ski like medicine . He was so kind , skillful and encouraging. Also need to mention Brendan was so nice and supportive all the time.
During noon break , I was searching for a place to pray. It was so crowded ,From the staff Chef was kind enough to open for me their conference room, wait outside and walk with me to the ski area again. He was remembering my name later on , came to help me again while carrying ski equipment.
Dennis was welcoming , sweet lady , very helpful.
Many more nice, kind people I met here , I am sorry I don’t remember everybody’s name at this moment.
I will definitely tell all my friends and family , and would love to come back (if I ever get weekend off again 😅)

Lovely waterfall to visit, my favorite of the 3 along the trail that are past the main attraction of course (the Basin). It’s worth the roughly 2 mile round trip hike to visit on its own, or taking this route if you’re looking to get to Kinsman or Lonesome Lake. I’d consider this a light to moderate hike as a seasoned WMNF hiker. When I ventured out last week, conditions were manageable without spikes, but I could see that changing quickly depending on recent weather. We started at the Indian head trailhead, which was great because it’s a small parking lot and you can avoid the flume Gorge crowd, but for the first several minutes of the hike you were just passing under highways and hearing cars.
You do have some nice babbling brooks on this hike and those sounds eventually takeover, but it can mean muddy sections if there was a recent rain.
I would say the train was moderate, and although there is nothing strenuous, there are tricky sections. I would choose Cardigan or Welch and Dicky over this every time. I’m not a big fan of hikes where there are no views until you reach the summit.

I will be the first to admit that I am NOT an experienced cross country skier, but these trails were PERFECT for ALL levels. There were so many trails to choose from at every difficulty level. My family and I rented from the ski shop at the Inn and the equipment was exactly what we needed! The trails were beautiful and very well maintained. I think my family and I found a new hobby! We will definitely be back.
