I see this place often, but this is my first time stopping. Outside curb appeal is perfect. The nostalgic 1950s look with sidewalk tables, AND a parking lot is a winning combination! I must have arrived during a slow time. There was plenty of seating, although this restaurant is relatively small inside and is often filled to capacity. I stuck with the non adventurous bacon burger with mashed potatoes instead of the French fries. My mom had the fried chicken wings. We both have a problem with our clothes shrinking, so we just had water with our meals. My burger from Bun to Bun was excellent. Cooked precisely to my order, juicy and delicious. The bread was fresh, and they were not shy with the crispy bacon. The lettuce was not an old man but not a baby either. I gave my mom the tomatoes, and although she complained that they were probably cut way in advance, she ate them up like she was going to the electric chair. My accompanying little, and I mean little, cup of cold slaw was tasty just like the old-time NYC deli shops. The mashed potatoes were a disappointment. Obviously, a powdered version mixed with too much water, no milk or butter, they were kinda loose and tasteless. Additionally, the 3 onion rings had no crunch to them at all. Perhaps they were refried or made in oil that was not hot enough. Maybe people prefer spongy onion rings, and something is wrong with me. That is totally possible. The fried chicken wings looked and tasted proper. They were a normal size, not like those pigeon wings some places try to sell you. There was no flavor requested, just wings, and they fit the bill. The service was excellent. I did not get her name, but a lady with lots of interesting tattoos was professional and attentive. I don't know how old this structure is, but the bathroom showed every second of that age. It was not unclean. I want to be clear about that, it just looked used hard. Burger deluxe and wings, no sodas, $42! I guess there was an egg used in something, or this is the way and prices going forward. Speaking of prices, there are 2 charges for every item on the menu. I BELIEVE they charge you an extra 3 or 4% if you use a card or tap. That used to be against the rules of the card companies, and no processor charges 4% that I know of. A little Diner bill padding might be afoot. Who knows? I would prefer that a place charges what they need to make an honest profit and leave the algebra for the classroom. That's just me again. I left a 25% tip and put it in my waitresses' hand. I did not want her to have to pay any surcharges or tariffs on her job well done. I ain't no spring chicken and my age and shows in my reviews. All in all, after the sticker shock, I would definitely dine here again. Millbrook is a quaint, little, safe, easily walkable hamlet. 2 blocks up on the opposite side of the street is the Millbrook Antiques Mall (Antique and Open flags outside). That mall is well curated and has 3 floors of affordable treasures. You get to the Millbrook Antiques Center first, but I really really like the MALL better. I will be back to the Diner after visiting my happy place for sure. As always, your mileage may vary.
