This is not a bad thing and what I typically enjoy… a place that’s favored by the locals, has been around for a while and does what they do well. Sadly, the best thing about this place is the view. It is a great location right on the intercostal near the bridge. I’m still trying to figure out how Hampstead is considered the seafood capital when places like this are said to be the best around. We chose this place to have oysters and were disappointed with the flavor and how they were cooked. The oysters were fried and it has to be a problem with the oil they cook in and their coating, but they had an off flavor and did not taste fresh. They were pretty greasy, rather than having a light crispy batter. Go to Shuckin Shack for oysters - they won’t disappoint! Scallops were ordered blackened and came out with a teeny bit of some red seasoning. Definitely not blackened. Each meal came with cornbread. It was dry and overcooked, even burnt on the edges. We also ordered the tuna nachos. They are basically fried wontons, covered in seaweed salad and chopped tuna with a soy/wasabi sauce. While I enjoy all these ingredients, it was pretty meh. The tuna was overcooked for this type of appetizer. The best thing we had was the key lime pie. Thankfully, they got that right! Honestly, that would be the only thing I’d go back for. Overall, not a lot of bang for your buck. Really wish this area would improve their seafood scene. Go to Calabash if you want good seafood.

In Surf City, a short drive from everywhere it is a must for all. As a lifelong northern coastal gal I can vouch this one of the best prepared lobster outside of Maine. Trevor & Jenn, bff’s & family are gracious to all. Their unique story warms the heart as does the food. Lobster bisque samples were served as we walked up. One taste I knew they could cook! We ordered the bisque & lobster in a bowl with romaine lettuce. Unadorned you can taste the freshness & perfectly cooked it was. Bravo!! It was so great we ordered 2nd’s & visiting again. Dessert tidbits were passed out freely, sweet. If this eatery were in a traditional seafood restaurant it would have easy cost 3+x’s the price. It’s that good. The view is amazing too!
