Highly recommend to go here, though reservations in advance are advised because it can become quite busy. Service was very friendly, a lot of young people are working in this restaurant, which is super fun in my opinion. Food was great, maybe the pumpkin gnocchi can be have a bit of a pump up with some spice or extra flavor, but that's very subjective. The atmosphere was nice, but I recommend to place the empty bottles and glasses somewhere else so guests don't have the view on them when having dinner. Locals say say it rains 4 days out of 5 which I am honestly just taking their word. Free parking available easily and its a very convenient location and food is really good any time there. Overall very happy to visit again which we did the next day🙂

The venison was cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the coal Pitt Pinot noir. The meal was made even better when the host/daughter (and soon to be owner) informed me part of the meal was updated because her sister loved creamed cabbage, so her mum (the chef) was inspired and added it to meal! I wish I had more room because I would’ve loved to have ordered every dish on the menu! I felt right at home, hearing stories of how the restaurant came to be, how it has evolved over the years, and the future plans the family has for it. I visited in early November 2025 and although I could not get a reservation at the restaurant (through nobody’s fault but my own due to poor planning) the staff was very friendly and directed me to the bar menu. The very friendly barman also helped me choose a nice local alcoholic ginger beer on tap and the Game Platter. It was tasty and quite a lot of food because it’s intended for two; the lovely server gave me a to go box upon request. I enjoyed the chatter and vibe so much that I took a stroll along the lake and returned again the next day (today, a Friday) for a pint of something different. They were equally as warm and helped guide me to a different local beer on tap that I enjoyed, and I enjoyed passing time in the atmosphere of the local pub on a Friday night. We tried famous pies from Fergbakery and Farlie Bakery and this was indeed better. The dough was thin and meat well seasoned, juicy and generous. Will drive all the way to Te Anau again just for this. Highly recommend!! It makes it much easier to visit Milford Sound from here than driving from Queenstown. And this little motel was perfect for our needs. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The manager was just so helpful and did everything she could to make our stay as good as it could be. On our second night there was a massive storm which knocked out power to a lot of the south island. The manager went out and bought us torches and investigated places that had cooking facilities so we could eat. Absolutely amazing. When we come back next year, we'll be staying here again for sure! The front desk receptionist was absolutely fantastic and flexible with check in times to accommodate us, on arrival there was simple instructions for us. The aircon had been turned on so when we entered our room it was a beautiful temperature. The beds had electric blankets and the rooms were nice and cosy, including a kitchenette with complementary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk! We were overly impressed at the quality and overall service we were provided. I highly recommend a stay here if travelling through to Milford, our car was right at the door as well which made us feel a lot safer and more comfortable when braving the cold temperatures to get our luggage in and out of the car. P.s. if you’re lucky enough there is a resident cat who wondered over to say hello, a beautiful tabby who is super friendly and very cute!

Every single chip was perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Not a single one in the bunch. My friend and I were in Te Anau for 3 days and every night we just went back here because we couldn't get enough. I'm hopefully traveling New Zealand again in February 2021 and I'm coming here immediately if they are open.

Had the 'crumbed hoki'. It looked like minced up fish that had been moulded into a fish shape, much like a poor quality frozen fish you would buy from a supermarket to heat up in the oven at home. The fish itself taste like it had not had a good life and was only a bit more paletable with ketchup (which taste only slightly better). I should have gone for the cod perhaps, but at 9 bucks it was rather pricey. The chips were just ok. Staff were friendly enough however I definitely would not recommend this place overall. All the waitresses seemed like they were either angry about something or on their period.
