Irassae is one of our fave spots in OC 😋 it’s one of the few places that offer sweet shrimp. Their sashimi is always very fresh and prices are pretty good. They also have the best uni and oyster shooters, flavorful and fresh! Highly recommend trying!

Nothing overly inventive but the presentation is on par with most sushi bars. They do offer black rice which is a healthier and in my opinion, better tasting alternative. The reason for the lower rating really revolves around service. When we came in as a party of 4, there were 2 servers, 4 tables sat, 2 people at the bar and 4 empty tables (so not overly busy). Our presence wasn't even acknowledged for 3-4 minutes (most sushi bars you are greeted by the chef in entry and exit but this never happened here). We were then told it would be a 10 minute wait and to write our name down and wait outside... seriously?! We were actually sat after about 5 minutes (I didn't wait outside because that was a ridiculous suggestion given how empty the restaurant was). If they stepped up their service (including the sushi chef), this place would easily be 4 stars.

Before ordering, I had to use the restroom and was pleasantly surprised that not only was the facility clean but looked like an attractive restroom in a nice home instead of a neglected facility in a community park. I placed my order and started reading my book (I was dining alone that day) when the food started coming sooner than expected. The Japanese style fried Calamari was hot and crispy and a good amount for an appetizer. I ordered two rolls. It wasn’t too busy. They seated us right away. Very lovely atmosphere. Greeter and our server were very friendly. The food was amazing! We ordered the salmon delight roll and the balboa roll. I’m usually not a sushi person not that ambitious but decided to give it a try and they did not disappoint. I would definitely recommend eating here and would come back again if I’m in the area. Although one tiny gripe was my friend said the wasabi was alittle weak. Other than that everything else was great.

Our server was on it the whole time catering to us. Glasses were never empty. Food was coming out at a great pace, giving us time to enjoy the plates. I can say I was impressed with the pork belly buns as they had many flavors ranging from, ginger, cilantro, and mint with the pork flavor made this a favorite. The fried rice was so good it gave me ideas of ingredients to add to my own with a great range of flavor. Also on the list was the HB roll, which was very good and the balboa roll with a flavor all its own and not to miss. They also have larger omakase sets which require advanced reservation. It's a small place so I imagine reservations on weekends may be needed. Loved the tuna, (smoked) albacore, salmon sashimi (was fatty and had onion garnish and seasoned), bay scallops, salmon handroll, crab handroll. It was cute that every dish was presented on different plates. We also tried: The Horse Mackerel and Amberjack but didn't melt in mouth as much as the other sashimi.
