Lent, located in Maribor, is considered the most beautiful part of the city. During the day, it offers stunning views and becomes even more enchanting at night with its illuminated ambiance. The area boasts numerous delightful restaurants and provides a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls. Additionally, Lent is renowned for offering an authentic and traditional wine tasting experience in Slovenia.
I'm totally flabberghasted at how beautiful the Lent district was on a sunny day in February. Good vibes, cute bridges, and swans everywhere 🦢🦢🦢
Leo M — Google review
I enjoy the Lent area... probably one of the best places for a nice stroll along the river. It has a really nice atmosphere and some of the best bars and places to eat.
Johnny S — Google review

Old Vine House in Maribor is home to the oldest grape vine in the world, boasting over 400 years of history and recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. Originally part of the town's defensive wall, it has become a major tourist attraction. The house serves as a tribute to the wine traditions of Maribor and Slovenia, featuring an exhibition room that showcases the country's rich wine heritage and offers tastings of exceptional wines from the Stajerska wine region.
We visited spontaniously this place in Maribor on our way bay home to Hungary. It is amazing to know that the world’s oldest living vine is about 400 years old and it is in Slovenia very close to the Hungarian border. We took part in a small wine-tasting session, too. It was an excellent program. I advise you to discover the old town of Maribor. It is super cozy and cute to take a walk there. And the Old Vine House is also very close to the city centre.
Lilla K — Google review
We almost always go here for a wine tasting whenever we are in town. Go take a stroll through the display room, before you decide what kind of wine tasting you want to have. They use a tiered approach, so you can have young wines, medium or aged wines or a mixed selection. After you've been to to display room, you can point out which ones you want to try and avoid having to go through any that won't be to your liking. Service personel is well trained and can help you out if you are not as experienced in the regional wines, so don't be shy and just ask for help when you need it.
Oliver L — Google review
Really wonderful place made better by the staff. Clement walked us through 8 wines we tasted and was as knowledgeable and pleasay as you can imagine. People come to take a picture of the oldest vine in the world. They should stay for the wine.
Mark P — Google review
Tried orange wine for the first time in Maribor, Slovenia — a peaceful spot by the world’s oldest grapevine (over 400 years old). The wine was soft with a lovely floral aroma. I really enjoyed it! The area is accessible, but the cobblestone paths make it a bit tricky for wheelchair users.
Trawheel.packer — Google review
If you love wine you must stop and enjoy the oldest grapevine in the world. The wine is excellent and the hosts are extremely knowledgeable.

Castle
Art museum
Maribor Castle, situated in the heart of Maribor, Slovenia, is a significant historical landmark with a rich past. Originally constructed in the 15th century and featuring a mix of architectural styles from Renaissance to Baroque due to various renovations over time, the castle offers visitors an extensive museum showcasing the region's archaeological and cultural history. The complex includes dungeons, a wine bar, eateries, puppet and weapons museums, as well as a tower providing breathtaking panoramic views.
Small but rich museum about the town of Maribor. From prehistoric age to the modern era, the history of the region and the city is told through various exposed pieces. I’ve particularly appreciated the exposition of toys soldiers!
Mister Z — Google review
Historic building, nice to walk around, not many tourists around, which it made it better!.
Enrik H — Google review
There is a lovely museum in the castle. The exhibitions were excellent, the information provided was concise and interesting, the artifacts on display were great. It is all really well thought out. The staff were so kind as well, happy to show us around. It's a 10eur entrance fee, but honestly worth it, easily. I would definitely recommend it if you have an hour or two to spare!
Taja S — Google review
The castle is located in the centre, which has the great advantage of being almost entirely pedestrianised, and I really like that. We didn't get to the castle, which contains exhibitions of the archaeological and cultural history of the region, because we were there in the evening
M. H — Google review
There is a museums inside the castle and you can buy a ticket to take the tour. You could find a short history of the region and how Maribor developed, also there armours, uniforms, statues, paintings and also miniatures with tin figurines representing the Turkish assault of the Maribor Castle. Overall the experience is nice.
Andrei B — Google review
What a value for money! 5 euros (3 for students) for what I expected to be a small exhibition. It is a large museum offering a variety of collections (from the middle ages to paintings to statues) and the building itself is also nice inside and out. It is worth a visit.
Juljan D — Google review
Recently renovated on the outside, the inside museum is quite extensive and has some really great exhibits on the history of the city and the region. The main hall is incredible and some of the artwork is rest superb. 8 eur entry. Gift shop at the entrance has lots of Slovenian gifts. Highly recommend. Can spend an hour if you go quickly, more if you're reading everything in detail.
Paul H — Google review
A nice castle in the center of the city situated on a beautiful square, inside there is a regional museum. In front of the castle, you can have coffee and refreshments, there are also souvenir stands available. I recommend seeing this castle.

Located by the riverside, Maribor Synagogue may not seem impressive from the outside, but it holds significant historical and cultural value. As one of the oldest preserved synagogues in Europe, it now operates as a Jewish cultural center. Although not currently active for religious purposes, it stands as a reminder of the once-thriving Jewish community in Maribor. Visitors can engage with friendly staff who offer insights into the history of the synagogue and its significance to the local Jewish community.
An ancient synagogue from the Middle Ages. There is not much to see, but it is part of the simplicity of synagogues from that time. We got into a fascinating conversation with a researcher who works there, and I recommend everyone to talk to whoever is there, to hear a little about the history of the Maribor Jewish community.
Shachar P — Google review
Marietka gave us a really thoughtful and engaging tour of the beautifully preserved synagogue. She is very knowledgeable and shared so much about the history of Jewish life in the region it was very eye-opening. Even though Jews were expelled from Maribor back in medieval times, this space remains so important to remember and reclaim that history. We're really glad we stopped by.

Restaurant
Rožmarin Hospitality Group is a charming restaurant located in the city center, offering tastefully furnished interiors and a delightful dining experience. The menu features generous portions of flavorful dishes, complemented by an excellent selection of wines at reasonable prices. Guests can expect polite and attentive service within an extremely cozy setting. The restaurant's offerings include wonderful appetizers featuring local hams and cheeses, as well as delectable options like cheeseburgers and steaks made from locally sourced beef.
A special place where you can get not only excellent food but experience a wonderful service and taste delicious wine. On the lower floor you can separate tables using curtains what gives the overall Ambiente a special touch.
Alexander B — Google review
Great atmosphere and overall a good experience. The vibe was welcoming and the service attentive. However, when we asked our waiter for a recommendation, we were surprised when he immediately pushed the €350 tomahawk steak — it felt more like upselling than genuine advice. We opted for two different steaks, both ordered medium rare. The T-bone was excellent — perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. Unfortunately, the other steak was overcooked to well done and lacked seasoning, which was disappointing given the price point.
Lauren T — Google review
Great place! The pizzas are great value. They are so huge they come with scissors and you can eat from it for another day! Kind waitress too, highly recommend!
Pit H — Google review
Ridiculous! First course was one dry cookie, probably bought in Lidl. 2nd was salad leave with mayo and main course was literally one bite (yes, only one, small bite) of wild boar meat. I think they used one steak for the whole restaurant. Sweet course was good, probably because we were hungry after sitting for 2 hours. Only stars for this place is in the heads of the staff, which were very rude and unprofessional. Forget the wine, we were waiting for water for forty minutes!
Dragan P — Google review
Best filet mignon of my life! Perfect service! (High praises for Alex) Equally impressing wine! MARIBOR = Rozmarin!
Matteo C — Google review
Super nice Restaurant, nice Ambiente Soup, salad and steak was brilliant. Prices are not cheap but for the quality fine. They have menu cards in Slovenian, German and English Unfortunately we had to wait after dish 1 a long time for our steaks. More than 1 hour. That is a bit sad. Waiter excused 2 times and said he was several times in the kitchen. 2 drinks they deducted from bill. That was nice. Steak and Ribs we’re not that hot. Ribs had too much sauce for our taste. Even the waiters are friendly and funny. Some speak English and German some only English Nevertheless for a Tuesday I can highly recommend this place
AK W — Google review
This restaurant specialises in beef steaks. The shared Tomahawk steaks are amazingly good. Three large shared steaks are enough for 8 hungry people. The waiters are highly trained and knowledgeable in recommending the right steaks and in carving the steaks. Desserts are really worth having. Deconstructed cheesecake and Snickers are very nice, as is the Creme Brulee.

A Fresh Look at Steakhouse Rožmarin: Have They Turned a Corner? It's understandable to be hesitant about revisiting a restaurant that left a negative impression in the past. However, positive changes can happen, and Steakhouse Rožmarin seems to be making an effort to elevate their experience. Here's why you might want to consider giving them another try: Focus on Quality: Their website [Restaurant Steakhouse Rožmarin] emphasizes their dedication to using premium ingredients, particularly their dry-aged beef selection. Modern Ambiance: Reviews mention a stylish and contemporary interior, which suggests a possible upgrade from your previous experience. Diverse Menu: While steaks are their specialty, they also offer options like burgers, fish, and salads to cater to different preferences. Positive Reviews: Recent reviews on platforms like Tripadvisor acknowledge the restaurant's central location, pleasant atmosphere, and overall improvement. Considering a Return Visit: If you're open to trying Steakhouse Rožmarin again, here are some things to keep in mind: Contact the Restaurant: Reach out to them and inquire about any menu changes or updates since your last visit. Read Recent Reviews: Look for reviews written closer to the present date to gauge the current customer experience. Be Open-Minded: Go in with a fresh perspective, focusing on the possibility of a positive dining experience. Ultimately, the decision is yours. However, Steakhouse Rožmarin seems to be working towards improvement, and it might be worth a try to see if they've addressed the shortcomings you encountered before.

This quaint establishment features both indoor and outdoor seating, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for intimate gatherings. Guests can indulge in expertly guided tastings led by knowledgeable local sommeliers, sampling three exquisite wines paired with a delectable cheese platter. The selection includes renowned Slovenian varieties like Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and the unique Sipon.
A delightful, cozy spot offering a great selection of local wines. The atmosphere is peaceful and inviting, complemented by excellent service. I thoroughly enjoyed the recommended local Zweigelt.

We really appreciated the local wines and the friendly atmosphere! Would definitely come back 🌺
Sara D — Google review
Where to begin.. From the atmosphere (located in the lovely narrow Poštna street, in the heart of the city centre), to the beautiful interior design (there is a reason why this is the most beautiful living room of Poštna), the servers who are all very kind, knowledgeable and helpful people and the wide range of local wines and cheeses. The owner, Vida, is a very pleasant lady; always takes time for each guest, so everyone finds the perfect glass of wine for their taste. The prices vary from around 3€ per glass to around 8€, they also offer charcuterie boards. Along with the outside seating area and the living room inside, there is a hidden atrium in the back, where you can also sit in peace, and a basement area (LeKlet) which you can rent for celebrations of all sorts. I can not recommend this bar enough! A visit to this place is a MUST! 🥂
Lara B — Google review
Best spot! Vida, the owner, was so lovely and accomodating. Delicious variety of local wines we enjoyed (The orange wine was a big hit). Beautiful spaces- both upstairs and downstairs in the basement which is a function room. When I’m back in Maribor I’ll be visiting, and recommending others to go here. ❤️

Fun place to stop and have a couple glasses of wine! The staff was very attentive and helped offer wine suggestions which were all great. The music selection and relaxed vibe made it a great place to hang out for a while!

We were on a visit in Maribor when we discovered this place by accident. The owner came to our table and listened to our preferences on wines then returned moments later with perfect matches. We learned that she is the owner at a winery outside of town (Bartol). The wine she served was truly special - unlike anything we've experienced before and exceptional in quality. We returned for a second night to drink with her again and bought 6 bottles to bring home to California. Do yourself a favor and visit this establishment if you're in Maribor.

Seafood restaurant
Nestled close to the Maribor Cathedral, Novi Svet is a charming seafood restaurant that welcomes furry friends and offers an exceptional dining experience. Specializing in Slovenian seafood dishes, this eatery boasts a beautifully decorated dining room and a delightful terrace adorned with vines, creating an inviting atmosphere for guests. During my recent visit with my teenagers, we were thrilled to find such quality food and generous portions.
Really good food and the owner was really nice. Even thought he couldn’t speak fluent English but still we had a really nice chat. The food was amusing, we ate the house made soup, fresh grill fish from them and three types of squid 🦑 everything was so delicious 😋 We can’t wait to come again to have dinner here again. Highly recommend this restaurant for you!!! P.S for the moment there was a construction in front of the shop, you can go from the church side to the garten of shop. They will be there.

A pretty good seafood restaurant in the city center. The atmosphere is cozy and tastefully decorated with a nautical theme—fishing nets, maritime paintings, and similar details on the walls. The prices seemed a bit above average, but the service was excellent. Our waiter checked on us several times, topped up our wine glasses, and made sure everything was to our liking. The food was absolutely delicious.
Megas — Google review
We found this amazing seafood restaurant today in Maribor while searching for the best restaurants in the old town. Had dinner at this atmospheric restaurant after arriving from London, and this place truly lives up to its 5 star reputation. We started with scallops in garlic and olive oil, as well as scallops with cheese and bechamel sauce—both were fantastic. The stuffed squid was incredibly flavourful, and we ended the meal with a decadent triple-layer chocolate dessert. Yum! Our experience was made even better by the excellent Furmint wine, recommended by our attentive and friendly server, who impressively speaks Serbian, Slovenian, German, and English. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Niko, who kindly gave us a short tour and shared some fascinating history about the restaurant, which has hosted famous guests from around the world. The restaurant houses a memorial workroom of General Rudolf Maister and a 280-year-old vine garden. Remarkable place, run by an equally kind and passionate man. Two thumbs up, Niko and team! Super enjoyed our dinner.

Best restaurant in town. Excellent seafood, outstanding service with the kindest chef who can make every wish happen. Atmosphere is really nice it feels like you are on a sea side in Croatia. The music makes it even better. I am not a soup guy but I recommend the fish soup "Barba Jure" to everyone.

One of the best in town. I enjoyed the steak witn vegetables. They have a great local winecard.

Terrible experience. Every time we were served by different waiter. Waiting time was 1,5 hour for soup and 1 hour extra for main meal. Taste was terrible, it looked good, but no spiced food, plain cooked pasta, just added to bitter lobster . Octopus was chewy, we ate just as we were too hungry… From beginning to end they offered only one time drink. We asked for a glass of wine with food, but as waiters were keep changing, no one cared to bring drinks. Will not recommend it at all. There are many other places in Maribor, which are hitting the target of quality, taste and service. This place unfortunately is below the level , even below the minimum level of acceptance.

The restaurant is interesting and the food is delicious! Beautiful view from the terrace! I stayed at the hotel for 14 days. The waiters do not create comfort for relaxation. There is only one good waiter in the restaurant with glasses, a real pro. All the other waiters are evil, as it seemed to me! They can ruin the mood from the first time!!!

Really nice restaurant with a beautifull view. Even though they didn't have any vegan dishes on the menu, they prepared me an awesome first course and perfect main course with a side salad. Iist really give all the compliments to the cook.

Restavracija Sedem is located in the vibrant center of Maribor, Slovenia's second largest city. It operates within a modern building shared with Maribor's Vocational College for Hospitality and Tourism, providing hands-on training to students in cooking and hospitality. The restaurant offers an ideal lunch spot for those exploring the old town, especially for those seeking authentic Styrian cuisine. Notably, it has been recognized in the Michelin Guide for 2022.
Enjoyed a lovely lunch, with quality local wines and excellent prepared food. Tartar, Roast Veal & Roast Cod, salads were all very tasty, and the macarons made for the ideal ending to the meal. Service was lovely, polite and attentive but never intrusive.
Phil G — Google review
Well, that was fun. The wine pairing was spot on except for one (that I didn't like), as for the food: it was delicious and the 5 course and 6 course menu were more than enough for us. We should not have had a snack at a Bosnian place in town 3 hrs before dinner (which was totally worth it too, but maybe avoid stuffing your face before coming here 😉).
Oliver L — Google review
Everything about this place is perfect. Loved the food, the service, and the ambiance. I will definitely come back again. The best restaurant and culinary experience in Maribor. I can see the effort and hard work which the staff and the chefs put into the whole experience. These students/apprentices are the future sommeliers, chefs and hospitality professionals. We were there during lunch time, so it was easy to get a table without waiting but a reservation ahead of time is always recommended.

Excellent service, food was well presented and very tasty. Portions were fair, not as big as what you typically get outside. Price was very fair for what you get. Highly recommended. Not much seating space outdoors on the patio, which also means if you have a space it's very comfortable as people are seated far apart.

Very very good and creative dishes created, cooked and served by students of the Slovenian culinary institute. We had the seven course menu with matching wines, a great journey through Slovenian ingredients and wine regions, with some unusual pairings (strawberry margherita with dessert). Higly recommended.
