Museums
The State Museum of Prehistory Halle (Saale) is a renowned archaeological museum in Central Europe, showcasing important prehistoric and medieval artifacts. It features a remarkable permanent exhibition that spans from the Stone Age to the early Iron Age, offering a chronological journey through Saxony-Anhalt's archaeological discoveries. The museum's centerpiece is the famous Nebra Sky Disk, a UNESCO Memory of the World document that provides insights into ancient astronomical knowledge.
For €7 entrance and €3 for audio guide this was fantastic value for money. There is the adults audio and the children's audio so all educated about our prehistory. Great cafe on ground floor. You can take pictures but no flash.
Vince P — Google review
Museum about the prehistory of the region. The main focus is the Nebra solar disk. But it has a lot of other very interesting prehistoric pieces. If you are in Halle (Saale) Go visit this museum.
Haitse W — Google review
Absolutely wonderful artefacts BUT!!! All text is in german so we foreigners are kept out. No brochure for the different floors. This could be easily helped by asking a highschool class to translate all the information on each floor to english and then have them set a QR code next to each text. I am so intreaged by all this interesting history but feel cheated since my german is not good enough to understand the information in german. I asked if they had audial information in english but- no. Why?
Karin W — Google review
The museum is very modern with great atmosphere, exhibits and stories. The price is small. The panels are mostly in English for mid sized displays, with some English for overview info only.
SVC — Google review
Such an interesting and well-curated exhibition - you can spend several hours here. The only negative was that several staff members were rather unfriendly, especially in the Café and gift shop.
N M — Google review
Wonderful museum that is packed with unique artefacts mainly from the prehistoric periods (although later periods are also covered). For prehistorians, it is a paradise place! The Nebra sky disc is of course amazing, but I'd say I enjoyed even more some of the other exhibits, eg. the Shamanin's room and the early figurines. Thank you for providing at least the main information in English, it would be nice if more of the information was translated!
Ethan — Google review
We been thrilled by this beautiful museum and the way how history and science is presented! This is one of the top museums and I can highly recommend to take some time and enjoy. We been there for 6h and easily could stay for 2 more.
Steffen W — Google review
Great experience. A typical traditional museum where the visitor is a passive observer. The only thing personal in Museum have to think about is the fact that some visitors are not German speakers and that it would be great to put English language notes under the exhibits. Suggestion for the first time visitors: start with top flour of the Museum.

Händel-Haus, located in a Renaissance complex, is the birthplace of the renowned Baroque composer George Frideric Handel. The building dates back to at least 1558 and was purchased by Handel's father in 1666. The museum showcases his life and work, featuring period instruments and manuscripts. Inaugurated on the 250th anniversary of Handel's death, the permanent exhibition provides insight into the composer's life and achievements.
This museum is situated in the very heart of Halle (Saale). It has a very good and informative interactive exposition including cartoons, laser show etc. I especially recommend the music instruments exhibition.
Alex F — Google review
Small, interesting and interactive museum about Händel's life, plenty of short videos in 5 different languages. The prices (reduced €5 and full €7,5) are pretty fair.

The whole city is nice to walk around. The atmosphere is so lovely. The weather was so nice in the beginning of April. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to go inside and see the museum this time. But I would definitely come back
Viktoriia T — Google review
Excellent museum. Lots of musical interactive exhibits. A huge number of different types of musical instruments from different time periods. Very interesting, impressive and informative.
Ksenia — Google review
This is a very impressive museum with some great information about the life of Handel. The staff spoke very limited English but made it clear that I was welcome and took care to make sure I knew that there was to be an organ performance in the museum that afternoon. I really enjoyed my visit.
Roger G — Google review
very interesting and educational - beautiful music and rare instruments on exhibition - definetly worth a visit, time needed 1 hour minimum
Bernd R — Google review
An interesting collection of musical instruments. A thorough collection of items and information relating to the life of Händel. Much of the information available in English.
Anthony A — Google review
I was the only one in the museum and was able to make as much of my own sounds and have my own thoughts the whole visit. It was a very nice experience and I enjoyed the interactivity of parts of the exhibit. Very nice space. And it offers enough about Handel, having only really lived in Halle till age 18, to add to the celebrity of the person he has become for Operas and the oratorios. Beautiful building with a lot of other parts of western music history.

Giebichenstein Castle is one of the main attractions in Halle, a city known for its stunning landmarks and vibrant art scene. The castle offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can also explore the nearby Marktkirche and indulge in delicious local cuisine, including the famous Halloren chocolate. Additionally, Halle is home to Martin Luther University, adding an academic charm to this picturesque destination.
If you come to Halle, this is one attraction you MUST NOT miss. There is so much history behind it and it's still in use. The view is stupendous and breath taking. We strongly recommend this site to visit.

Are you seeking a peaceful and picturesque escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life? Look no further than the enchanting Giebichenstein Castle. Nestled atop a beautiful hill in Halle, Germany, this historic gem offers an idyllic setting to unwind, reflect, and reconnect with oneself. Upon arrival, I was immediately captivated by the castle's serene atmosphere. The lush green surroundings and gentle breeze create a soothing ambiance, perfect for taking a leisurely stroll or indulging in quiet contemplation. The breathtaking views of the river and surrounding landscape only add to the charm of this magnificent place. As I explored the castle grounds, I discovered numerous well-maintained paths that provided ample opportunity for leisurely walks. Each winding trail led me to a new and enchanting vantage point, making every step an adventure in itself. I couldn't help but appreciate the solitude and tranquility that the castle and its grounds offered, giving me the chance to focus on my thoughts and enjoy my own company. For history enthusiasts, Giebichenstein Castle provides a rich and fascinating insight into the past. While the castle's origins date back to the 10th century, much of the structure we see today is from the 12th and 13th centuries. The castle walls and ruins whisper tales of a bygone era, adding a touch of mystique to the experience. In conclusion, Giebichenstein Castle is a must-visit for those seeking a peaceful and scenic retreat. The combination of its stunning landscape, rich history, and tranquil atmosphere creates a truly unique experience. Whether you're a history buff or simply in search of some quiet time to reflect and unwind, this picturesque gem is sure to leave you feeling rejuvenated and inspired..

There was no place to see inside the castle. There are some ruined walls and an open area for sitting, which can be done by the river for free. The top of the tower has a good view, but the windows are too small to enjoy the view. Two stars only because we took a lot of pictures of the view

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen, also known as the Market Church of Dear Lady or St. Mary's Church, is a historic medieval church located in Halle an der Saale, Germany. Built between 1529 and 1554, this late Gothic hall church features five prominent towers and houses a large library as well as a compact Luther museum. Originally intended to showcase Roman Catholic magnificence, the church took on a Lutheran identity before its completion.
Very nice church in the very heart of Halle (Saale). You can climb up to the roof of the church, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city center. Martin Luther's death mask is located here. There are also free half-hour organ concerts. The schedule should be clarified additionally.
Alex F — Google review
Beautiful church with splendid interior design. I was lucky enough to be just in time for a pipe organ session, which was also a special experience. Definitely worth a visit.
Amelia N — Google review
Marktkirche Halle/Saale, Germany Is this still Gothic? Albrecht of Brandenburg (archbishop of Magdeburg and Mainz, Luther's main adversary), demolished 2 churches and built this church between the remaining sets of towers. The building and the roof are obviously Late Gothic, the decoration early-Renaissance...

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Zoologischer Garten Halle, also known as Bergzoo, was established in 1901 and is located on the Reilsberg hill in the northern part of the city. Spanning nine hectares, it houses nearly 1,700 animals from around 250 species. The zoo focuses on mountain animals and South American fauna.
What a lovely zoo, well worth a visit if you are in Halle. Easy to find, reasonably priced, great location, and what a magnificent view of the city from the top of the zoo. Very friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced snacks and drinks. Well designed play area for the children, as well as a cute petting zoo with the most adorable little goats. On this occasion, I didn't make any comment about garlic and rosemary! Be aware it is on a hill and might not be suitable for someone with walking difficulties. But there are plenty of areas to sit.
Frank — Google review
The zoo does not impress, Animals very few ( maybe it is better ), a lot of empty enclosures. More walking on the roads than watching. Signage chaotic. Such a place to go once on a boring weekend. The view from the lighthouse at the top improves the overall rating, but is that what a zoo is all about ?....
Dario Z — Google review
I’m gonna start with the positives. Buying the tickets in advance (online) is cheaper compared to buying the tickets in the zoo itself. However you can’t just scan the tickets on a machine and go in but you need to go to a counter. I bought the cheaper tickets since I’m a student and the lady only said “Ermäßigung” (card that students get in Germany), I absolutely understand that she needs to check it since it was cheaper but she was quite rude. Also the price just doesn’t justify the experience there. There is a very good panorama of the city. You can borrow a small “vehicle” for the kids since they are gonna be tired since it is pretty steep at some places. The zoo itself is very pretty and it has a lot of animals you can look at. You can read about the animals being held captive there. Also you can look at the animals as they’re being fed, which is as I can imagine a good entertainment for the kids. However sometimes the animals aren’t to be seen numerous times throughout the day.
Ada N — Google review
Smaller zoo with good view points on the city. Accessible easily via tram. Here and there some public feedings and shows with animals.
Veronika J — Google review
There were few animals except for a few species of birds which were numerous. All the animals were sleepy and silent. Unfortunately, many shelves were empty. But the variety of animals was great and there were beautiful spaces. There were places for rest, eating and children's playground. The whole zoo could be seen in 2 hours.
Erfan S — Google review
The Zoo layout is well planned, so it's easy to get around. There were many animals to see even with the Covid-19 restrictions. All of the inside visiting areas were closed, but felt good to support the zoo and see red pandas as well as their very active meerkats. When the pandemic is over I'll definitely come for another visit. I recommend this zoo for families with young children.
Team A — Google review
It is one of the most well-designed, clean, healthy, well-cared Zoo. I saw many workers around who were carefully taking care of animals. At the end, it is a Zoo and animals are under captive, but it was relieving to see that animals are under good care.
Bahar P — Google review
Nice zoo in the city. People and children can visit. Accessible with public transport. Eating and drinking stalls in the zoo. Zoo is equipped with Benches all over its path.

Hamburger restaurant
The vegetarian burger at Burgerheart Halle was incredibly delicious and flavorful, while the sweet potato side dish was the standout highlight. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff members. The burgers were delectable, paired perfectly with crispy fries. A commendable aspect of their service is the use of environmentally friendly reusable straws for drinks, promoting sustainability. However, it would be even better if they offered more warm beverage options for customers to enjoy during colder weather conditions.
The best burger in Halle! We tried Oh my Goat and Matterhorn, both were delicious!! Nice environment and fast service! The staff are friendly and they speak English. They also have English menu. Recommended!
Panagiotis M — Google review
It has a huge terrace and it's beautiful. Burgers were tasty and you should try the homemade fries.
Bhavika T — Google review
Firstly, atmosphere is very simple and basic. Attitude was very impolite. When I wanted to put my phone in charge, male staff said that this is imposible. And then, another female staff allowed me to put my phone in charge. There was no fork in my service, but it's not an issue. Food is good, but prices is also good. So, nothing to compliment.

The veggi option of burger was extremely tasty and yummy. The suß Kartoffel was the best thing we ate. Nice place and vibe, the staffs are also very kind and friendly.
Sruthi S — Google review
First of all they moved us from the table that they seated us at the first time. Then we ordered the drinks and the food, the food took so so long to arrive, we asked for a rare / medium rare hamburger and it was more than well done. But the worst part was that we ordered fries and they never arrived, just plain burgers without anything to eat with. A mess to be honest, the hamburgers were nice but not as good as we expected them.
Riki B — Google review
Delicious burgers and crispy fries. Loved the concept of using reusable straws with their drinks, go green!!
Abdullah M — Google review
Great food and burgers, but a little on the pricy side.
Karissa R — Google review
Nice place, which has actually a lot of room on the second floor. With around 5€, a bit pricey if you only go for fries with a dip so it's worthwhile to order a combo with burger, fries/salad, drink. The fries were decent though and the barbecue sauce delicious. They have vegetarian burger's as well and for 1€ extra you can get sweet potato fries. Good to order ahead if you go with bigger groups.

We enjoyed our food there and it is so great with kids! They have a toddler toilet seat and a kid corner with toys, some color stuff and little trucks. Our little one (20 m) certainly enjoyed it a lot. Food was delicious for is too :)
Marie K — Google review
This is a self-service restaurant. They have specials of the day and they run out quite fast. I had the minestrone and it was really delicious. However, the vegetarian lasagna was a definite let down. We waited around 20mins before we got our food. So I'd say that if you want a quick lunch, this ain't gonna be quick at all.

(Translated by Google) There are so many good restaurants in this beautiful corner of Halle and we were here of all places. You order at the counter and clear the table yourself, even if the staff passes by the table, they don't take anything away or ask how it tastes. We had freshly squeezed juice twice, which was quite good, and the raw vegetable salad was also fresh and crunchy. Unfortunately, the rest of the two meals didn't taste good at all. It was completely overcooked and mushy and it was ready-made food from the freezer. We expected much more from choosing this restaurant. Too bad. We definitely won't eat here again. The restaurant itself, the toilets and the outdoor area were clean and tidy.

Cafe
Nestled in the charming Kleine Ulrichstraße of Halle (Saale), Kaffeeschuppen is a delightful café and bar that draws inspiration from the warm ambiance of Irish pubs. With over three decades of welcoming guests, this cozy spot instantly makes you feel at home, regardless of your origins. The inviting atmosphere is complemented by an impressive selection of beers on tap, including craft options, alongside a diverse menu featuring hearty breakfasts, brunches, and delectable coffee paired with mouthwatering cakes.
The greatest place to relax and enjoy a drink after work, cheers 🥂

The service is normally slow, because it is normally full of people. But the atmosphere of the bar is great, sometimes with nice live music and nice beers offered. You can find everything what you want in the menu from cocktails, beers and shots to small and big meals for lunch or dinner. French fries with dip are excellent. Tables and chairs outside for summer is also something great in the bar. I love the atmosphere that's why I still go there and recommend it for the future.
Angela M — Google review
The lady at the counter just shouted at us "Stop, stop" when we wanted to check one of the rooms after we entered because everything else was full. There are whole lot more ways to politely say that someone is not supposed to enter a certain area. Shouting "Stop, stop" is just outright rude.
Bohdan N — Google review
Great beer menu and service is faultless. Would not recommend the fish and chips. Really they should remove it from the menu. You are better off frying frozen fish sticks from Lidl. Burgers are good though

Definitely nice atmosphere and friendly staff Student café I've been here twice and had 2 different kinds of teas the first time and a chai latte the second time The tea water was only tepid both times, thus not hot enough for the tea to actually reach its full flavor Sadly, the chai latte was waaayyy too sweet for both my companion and I, and since they are probably using packaged powder, I would recommend using a different brand In total, it's still a nice café and I would recommend it, but mostly because of the atmosphere, not the drinks

Nice well preserved retro cafe- You could use it as a movie shooting scene. Has lot's of light, and a view on the corner of a cobble-stone street, had a coffee there, the waitress was nice, other guests felt like at home. I enjoyed my time.

Got the schuppen burger with pommel and aioli dip. Excellent burger; one of the best in Halle, surprisingly. Juicy, not over cooked, red onion and not yellow onion, crisp and fresh lettuce and tomato. Properly put together, salty and with crispy salt and pepper pommes on the side. Aioli was not bad. Also, got a Solyanka as an appetizer which was great as well. Heavy cream and lemon inside with a strong flavor. Mimosas and an IPA to wash it down. Great service, quick and helpful.

Asian restaurant
Vietnamese restaurant
Viet Village Asian Streetfood in Halle (Saale) is a simple eatery with communal tables and a cozy patio, offering a variety of Asian fusion dishes such as pho soups, crispy egg rolls, flavorful rice, and tempting noodle dishes. The restaurant stands out not only for its diverse range of beverages including refreshing cocktails but also for its wide selection of healthy, vegan, vegetarian, and Vietnamese dishes.
I loved this place! The drinks are very refreshing and the food is completely delicious. Definitely one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Halle. I really like sitting on the chairs and tables outside, so the food is much more enjoyable. However, I have to point out that in winter this may not be the best option.
Janik T — Google review
Been here twice. The first time was two years ago. I remember enjoying the food. The second time was today. I did not enjoy my meal today. Today, we ordered: •Pho w/ beef •Crispy duck in tamarind sauce •Ricepaper rolls w/ chicken I did not like the crispy duck and ricepaper rolls. The crispy duck was fried and crispy. Which was good. However, the sauce did not taste anything like tamarind. It tasted like cheap sweet & sour sauce. Which was bad. The ricepaper rolls were bland. They were only filled with 3 ingredients: chicken, iceberg lettuce and rice noodles. They may have tasted better if (a) the chicken was seasoned or (b) they had more veggies (like bean sprouts) and herbs (like mint). The ricepaper rolls were served with peanut sauce. The sauce was very thick. Not suitable for dipping. And, it did not have much flavour.

2️⃣/🔟 Unfortunately, my visit here really disappointed me. We had booked a table for 5 people for 8 p.m. and had to wait outside in the cold until 9 p.m. until we even got a table. There was absolutely nothing you could do with the menu card, although the card looked pretty unpleasant because it was printed on cardboard. I ordered coconut soup and number 25 (something with duck). The soup was okay, unfortunately it wasn't fun to eat because I clearly said "no chicken and mushrooms please" and still got a soup with chicken and mushrooms. Then the main menu came pretty quickly and I was extremely disappointed, everything tasted like lemongrass, even though I clearly said no lemongrass, and the duck was mushy and not even remotely cooked through. I was allowed to let the food go back, but we still had to pay, and no apology or compensation was even mentioned. Beer and cola were fine. ➡️Conclusion: Absolutely no attention is paid to the guest's wishes here and with such a bottomless price-performance ratio you should do that. Really every dish tasted almost exclusively of lemongrass and for me it's not Viet style if everything tastes exactly the same! What's more, you assume that if you book a table for 8 PM, you'll get there straight away and won't have to wait another hour in the cold. As I said, I'm very disappointed! We left a total of €140 here and the money was more than wasted. Maybe you'll get another chance at some point, until then the rating will stay the same, if it gets better I'll change it. What a shame! See you next time. ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻

It was such an experience! I was amazed by the food here especially the one i had today: Bun Cha Nuong. It was so real, and so close to the vietnamise authentic because I can smell the smell of smoke. Seems like the meat was actually grilled. The drink is also great but not special. Italian restaurant
Restaurant
Osteria Da Salvatore in Halle (Saale) offers a relaxed atmosphere and authentic Italian culinary delights. The unpretentious restaurant pampers its guests with homemade pasta and a contemporary selection of wines. Whether you're craving pizza, Mediterranean delicacies, or healthy dishes, this place has a variety of delicious options to choose from. Osteria is an Italian term for a restaurant that primarily serves wine and small dishes, reminiscent of ancient Roman establishments that served as roadside eateries.
Really nice place with kind staff. The food is very good!

I am sorry to say that I had higher expectation here. Service was friendly, but unfortunately too slow. Our order took soo long to get ready and at least three other tables that arrived after us got their orders. We were wondering what could have gone wrong and even avoided ordering dessert because of that. Fish tasted like nothing, I had to put salt to feel something. Pasta was also not good at all. Unfortunately I cannot recommend. The ambience looks like we are in the 80s. But worse part was the looong waiting plus bad food, which was very pricey. As per other comments I also agree that the antipasti were cheap stuff bought at discounter. Disappointed with all.

Very delicious and excellent service. Prior reservation recommended.
Elshad M — Google review
Excellent service and ambience, but the quality of the ingredients is very poor. Antipasti ingredients taste as though they come from a discount German supermarket: Cold canned mushrooms, German pickles, cheap prosciutto, etc. Recipes are much too adapted to local tastes. The pizza is as good as it can be given the poor ingredients.
