The Museo Diocesano di Arte Sacra, located in the ancient screstia next to the Duomo, showcases a collection of paintings, sculptures, and other religious works from the cathedral and churches of the dioceses of San Miniato. The museum also features pieces from Cardinal Alessandro Sanminiatelli Zabarella's collection. Visitors can explore notable artworks such as Verrocchio's Redeemer and Filippino Lippo's Crucifixion.

My wife and I purchased 2 'all inclusive' tickets to all the cities museums, along with with city tower. We told the man who sold us the tickets our schedule, that we were only in San Miniato for 2 full days. Even with this information, he somehow failed to to tell us that only 2 of the 8 locations would be open during our stay, one of which was the museum that he was working at. Even worse, we explicitly told him we had the most interest in the tower. While they were seemingly helpful, we were disappointed by their inability to acknowledge the fact that almost all the locations would be closed during our stay. San Miniato was gorgeous and we loved it, but this was a severe disappointment.

The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta e San Genesio, also known as the Duomo of San Miniato, dates back to the 12th century and features a well-preserved Romanesque brick facade. It underwent expansion in the 15th century, which included the construction of the Tower of Matilda. The church holds historical significance, having been impacted by wartime events during which many lives were lost.

The Tower of Federico II in San Miniato is a historic site with millennia of history. It overlooks the valley and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The tower, which was destroyed during World War II and later rebuilt, stands alongside ancient places like the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and San Genesio with the Matilde Tower. While some visitors find the tower itself unremarkable, many appreciate its historical significance and enjoy climbing to the top for breathtaking panoramic views.
If you are in San Miniato, you can easily cl8mb the torrent. Great views on a clear day from Florence to Volterra.

This place is amazing, it oversees the whole plain around the hill. The tower itself was surely great, but unfortunately the German army destroyed it during World War II. In 1958, it was rebuilt like it was before.

Beautiful view and made for some great photos, only 4 stars because the tower itself is nothing exciting to look at. If you like history this is a good place for you. They had some nice reading about the history of the San Miniato. Cute downtown with some nice bars and restaurants. Hot in July, the weather has been consistently 85-95 each day throughout Italy.

Great place to visit. It’s a nice climb from the car park and a beautiful view from the tower base. It’s also possible to climb the tower but we didn’t do that.

Tower is meh, but the views are stunning!!! A bit of a hike to get up but nothing too major! It took us about 10 minutes from the town center. You can see for miles and miles! What a great view! I was surprised to find hardly anyone up there. Tuscany is truly so beautiful, and this vantage point was one of the best views we witnessed!

Podere Pellicciano - Tuscany Wine Tours & Shop is located in the renowned wine regions of Chianti Colli Fiorentini and Chianti Rufina, near Florence. The vineyards sprawl across picturesque hills, offering a captivating setting for wine enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy an informative tour of the vineyard and witness the winemaking process firsthand.
We wanted to do a wine tasting and came across this place. We wanted to book for the same day. We made the booking at 11:30 for 15:00 in the afternoon on the same day! We booked the tour as well as the wine tasting, which was awesome! There is a choice to also order a meat or vegetarian plate to go with the wine tasting. The vegetables on the vegetarian plate were harvested from the same ground as the vinyard. The meat and vegetarian bites tasted great! During the tour you get to see where the whole process of the wine making takes place, which is super interesting. The guide knew everything about it and could answer any question. The wine tasting was also a very nice experience. It tasted great and also during the tasting there was room for questions. We ended up purchasing a couple bottles. It was really great and interesting. 100% recommend!

I had an absolutely wonderful experience visiting the vineyard! The wine tasting was exceptional – each wine was delicious and beautifully presented. Lunch prepared by the chef of restaurant Olivum exceeded all expectations – every dish was full of flavor and perfectly paired with the wines. What made the visit even more special was the guided tour of the vineyard led by Nico. His stories, knowledge, and passion for winemaking brought the whole experience to life. A truly unforgettable day – highly recommended to anyone who appreciates great wine, food, and warm hospitality!

We booked a tour easily for our group of 13, our host was very knowledgeable about the vineyard and explained all the processes brilliantly and answered all our questions with ease. The wine tasting was exceptional with 5 wines and 1 olive oil to enjoy. Most of us bought wine to bring home. Overall a fabulous well run small family business. Value for money was excellent at €40 euros per head. Can definitely recommend.

Wonderful and relaxing afternoon learning about the different grapes, climates, and how wine is made at this boutique winery. We had a relaxed tour and then tasted some lovely wines with meat, cheese, and bread. We were able to meet the owner as there is only about 6 employees. The operation is small and relatively new located in the valley so if you are looking for the rustic, large winery on a hill this is not for you.

Fabio was fantastic. He gave an amazing tour of the vineyard and the wine making process. We tasted a number of wines from fizzy rose to rich reds. They also make oil which is delicious and we tasted it with wine cheese an fabulous meats. They made a vegetarian dish for my wife which she enjoyed and I appreciated. It’s a smaller vineyard that had only a few other guests making it a perfect place to enjoy the Tuscan wine and learn about the process on how it is made. The family is so nice and shipping wines to the US is available.

We had a great time at this active vineyard. We arrived after a tour had already begun, but the host (Fabio) was flexible and let us join in the existing group for tasting the wine and the gave us a private tour of the vineyard afterwards. Fabio spoke excellent English and was able to answer all of our questions clearly. The environment was just lovely and the facilities they have established were perfect for our visit. Clean and tidy and very modern. The wine itself was clearly of very good quality and something Fabio was justly proud of. He provided breads, cheeses and meats to nibble during the tasting and they were locally sourced and also lovely. For €25 per person, I thought this was a great value and would highly recommend a visit if in the area.

Fantastic tour and tasting in beautiful Tuscany! We had a great time at Agrisole. We were able to taste all of their wines as well as their olive oil paired with bread, salami and cheeses and even homemade jams and the most delicious ragu. The wines are all reasonably priced and we enjoyed the small winery experience. Highly recommend.

The best wine tasting experience we’ve had in Tuscany! It so nice to have a sneak pick to a small, very professional, family business - they even engraved their children’s initials on each wine bottle. Nicoletta was very professional and her enthusiasm was contagious. The wine was delicious and Mama prepared some vegetarian options specifically for us 🤩 In the end we had to buy 2 bottles!

Situated in Piazza della Repubblica, or Piazza del Seminario, the Palazzo del Seminario Vescovile stands as a prominent structure in the vicinity due to its exquisite appearance and grandeur. Constructed circa 1650 to educate clergy members, it accommodated twelve clerics at that time and was meticulously built alongside the ancient city walls.
We slept at the seminario for 1 night, which was a great experience! Rooms are simple, but have recently been renovated so you have all you need. Also perfect stay on the Via Francigena!

(Translated by Google) The first phase of construction of the Episcopal Seminary of San Miniato began in 1650, but it took 63 years to complete its construction. Only from 1705-1708 did Monsignor Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi commission the decoration of the façade to Francesco Chimenti da Fucecchio. Although years have passed for the construction of the building, the eighteenth-century decoration makes the Palace seem like a single large, perfectly united homogeneous block, as well as expanding its wall surface. The façade of the Seminary is decorated with 30 frescoes of allegorical figures of virtue, each connected with a biblical or Church Fathers sentence that explains the meaning of the corresponding allegory. It is obvious, therefore, that, for the purposes of interpreting allegories, the connection between the meaning of the Latin maxim and the allegory that accompanies it is very important. We can believe that there was a strong influence of Monsignor Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi in the creation of the iconographic program of the facade. The logic that follows the decoration is visible, for example, already from the first allegories starting from the wing at right angles to the rest of the building: here is the representation of the three theological virtues, namely Faith, Hope and Charity . They prepare Christians to live in relationship with God because he is known through faith, hoped for and then loved. It must certainly have been clear in the mind of the bishop of San Miniato that the allegory frescoes, like all images of a religious nature, are fundamental for transmitting a set of moral teachings and dogmas to the public, as well as having the ability to emotionally involve the viewer. Moreover, we must remember that the frescoes decorate a building, the Seminary, whose purpose is the learning of ecclesiastical principles and study: there must undoubtedly be a connection between the purpose of the exterior and the interior. Furthermore, in the mottos that accompany two allegories on the facade there are words taken from a Latin quotation found in the pages of the Iconologia in which Cesare Ripa describes the allegory of Chastity and the Christian Religion. These two allegories can be represented on the facade of the Seminary because they are two religious virtues. Furthermore, the "strange" coincidence of finding the exact words reproduced suggests that Monsignor Poggi directly used, at least in part, Cesare Ripa's Iconology. This text, first published in 1593, had many subsequent publications, including one in 1625, before the decoration of the facade. Iconology is one of the texts from which many artists drew inspiration and which had a great influence on the figurative arts. It is for this reason that to interpret the allegories of the Palazzo del Seminario the main text source is Cesare Ripa's Iconology published in 1625. In addition to this, however, I also used another very important text: the Moral Hieroglyphics by Vincenzo Ricci , text published in 1626. As regards the Latin mottos, however, they often show the name of the author on the facade, but, sometimes, the name painted in the box and the real author of the sentence do not coincide; furthermore, in some cases, the name of an author is not shown in the box on the front. We can hypothesize that this is due to the deterioration that the façade underwent between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century: it may have caused the disappearance of some names and the damage of others which may have then been mistakenly modified during the restorations. of the twentieth century.

We were completely blown away by every aspect of our meal at Maggese. Service was outstanding the staff were friendly and after consulting the menu we asked our waiter to surprise us and feed us their best and favourite food. We had five courses which wasn't overwhelming, each course was perfectly proportioned and some courses included some surprise embellishments that were fun. We loved each course and the presentation was outstanding. Although the meal was distinctly Italian there were also Japanese influences in several courses which we really appreciated. Highly recommended.

Wow! What an experience! It is the best vegetarian restaurant I have been to in my life. It is not just about the food, surprising in all its forms and nuances, the environment is relaxing, friendly and professional at the same time. The staff are nice and really supportive and they explain all the dishes to you. Sometimes you may need to be very focused to follow all the details. Menu is absolutely great, well thought and balanced. There must be a lot of work and research behind it. Finally, a special mention for his majesty, the white truffle of San Miniato. The chef proposed to us a version of the classic truffle egg that made me touch heaven. He played with Parmigiano, french butter and goat cheese. Some black truffle was also there. I was amazed and I felt I wanted to eat more :)

Wonderful Italian food with influence from other cuisine. For example, I had ceviche and my husband had grilled octopus with fennel mousse. We went there for a friend’s birthday and we were 30 minutes late. They did not show any frustration and accepted us with 3 children. Children ate pasta bolognese and pasta with butter as they requested and those tequests were kindly accepted. The last pasta picture is pasta with squid and ink and bottarga, but it didn’t taste much.

The service was great, food was great, and the ambiance was great. Of course I finished the meal with amaro and a cafe. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Lovely pizza and pasta, quick and friendly service and very reasonable prices! The waitress even booked a taxi for us. Must visit if you're in San Miniato.

The staff were very friendly and did their best to accommodate us on a very busy night. Our pizza arrived quickly, but it was disappointing. The mozzarella that they use (or rather, the approximation thereof) is barely edible. Good selection of beers though. With a little more effort with ingredients this place could be great.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming Piazza del Duomo, Ristorante Pepenero is a culinary gem in San Miniato that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Under the guidance of Chef Gilberto Rossi, this restaurant embraces a philosophy centered around using only the freshest seasonal ingredients sourced from local producers. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it perfect for both casual meals and special occasions.
We are here two nights because the food was so amazing! Everything we tried was good and the wine list was also exceptional. The views out over the valley as the sun was setting are not to be missed. Service was also outstanding.

Absolutely amazing food. We had one of their set tasting menus with meat instead of the fish option, and it was fantastic. I really have nothing negative to point out, except for the ravioli dish where the white sauce needed quite a bit of salt. Besides that the wine was great, the service was great and the view was equally good. Really nice experience. This is one of those places i will return to.

I’ve rarely eaten in a restaurant with this special a view, combined with the highest standards of modern cooking. A very special evening, thank you so much for everything

We were surprised to find such an elegant modern restaurant in the small city of San Miniato, dressed for truffle hunt we were no expecting to have lunch in a classy restorant, never the less we were welcome and I'm happy to say we had a very good time, the food was excellent and the waitress was very pleasant, we were not feeling out of place I had the risotto carbonara which was divine, the kids had spaghetti pomodoro and were very pleased with it It is not your regular Hosteria / trattoria of the neighborhood but, it was good Recommended 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥

Amazing food from amazing people. And what you in a few hours transformed The Virgin - our fish from Norway to ... was out of this world!!!

It was the best meal of our time spent in San Miniato. We tried a few times to make a reservation (small restaurant). It was worth the wait. A great place to visit for a special occasion. We both enjoyed three courses. I ordered all items from the vegetarian list while my companion selected a mix from fish (pesce) and meat (carne). The flavours and pairings with wine were superb. The amuse bouche from the chef was delightful—and the breads were artistic and delicious (also provided gluten free bread). It was a good thing we had a short walk back to the car. We were pleasantly full. We will return!!

Restaurant
Fiorile - Cucina e vini is a charming addition to the dining scene in San Miniato, having opened its doors in July 2023. It's the sister wine bar of Papaveri e Papere and offers a small menu featuring delightful options like mortadella french toast and regional pasta dishes such as the classic Roman gricia. The restaurant also serves mains including fish, which can be a rarity in this meat-centric town, along with tempting desserts.
Very nice wine bar/bistro! Excellent food, perfect service!

Short menu with some vegan options but once informed they can arrange extra dishes. The chickpea frittata is very good! The restaurant is small, cozy and has a nice mix and match between rustic and modern design. Staff are young and welcoming.

(Translated by Google) This restaurant/wine bar is located in the center of San Miniato Alto, right across from the porticoes (you can also dine there in the summer) and is easily accessible on foot. There are also a couple of bars nearby where you can enjoy an excellent aperitivo, so given the restaurant's excellent value, we opted to stop at the nearby bar before dinner. We found a typical Tuscan menu, simple yet carefully crafted dishes. They don't venture into overly elaborate dishes; they just "do what they know how," which I'd say is definitely a plus. The wine selection is excellent, and the staff is knowledgeable. I'd call the value very good. Perhaps, just perhaps, we spent a few euros more than we expected, but given the location, the convenience, and the quality of the food, drinks, and service, I'd say it's more than justified.
