If you are in San Miniato, you can easily cl8mb the torrent. Great views on a clear day from Florence to Volterra.
This place is amazing, it oversees the whole plain around the hill. The tower itself was surely great, but unfortunately the German army destroyed it during World War II. In 1958, it was rebuilt like it was before.
The walk to the tower is not the easiest, but wow, that view is amazing
Beautiful view and made for some great photos, only 4 stars because the tower itself is nothing exciting to look at. If you like history this is a good place for you. They had some nice reading about the history of the San Miniato. Cute downtown with some nice bars and restaurants. Hot in July, the weather has been consistently 85-95 each day throughout Italy.
Great place to visit. It’s a nice climb from the car park and a beautiful view from the tower base. It’s also possible to climb the tower but we didn’t do that.
Tower is meh, but the views are stunning!!! A bit of a hike to get up but nothing too major! It took us about 10 minutes from the town center. You can see for miles and miles! What a great view! I was surprised to find hardly anyone up there. Tuscany is truly so beautiful, and this vantage point was one of the best views we witnessed!
When yourn the vicinity of San Minitat, make sure you climb the hill to the tower. For an extra couple of euros you get great views of the surrounding hills and villages. Tuscany on your hand.
The view on top of the tower is nice, but not sure it’s worth it. The village itself is much nicer and has several beautiful churches and plazzas.

We wanted to do a wine tasting and came across this place. We wanted to book for the same day. We made the booking at 11:30 for 15:00 in the afternoon on the same day! We booked the tour as well as the wine tasting, which was awesome! There is a choice to also order a meat or vegetarian plate to go with the wine tasting. The vegetables on the vegetarian plate were harvested from the same ground as the vinyard. The meat and vegetarian bites tasted great! During the tour you get to see where the whole process of the wine making takes place, which is super interesting. The guide knew everything about it and could answer any question. The wine tasting was also a very nice experience. It tasted great and also during the tasting there was room for questions. We ended up purchasing a couple bottles. It was really great and interesting. 100% recommend!
I had an absolutely wonderful experience visiting the vineyard! The wine tasting was exceptional – each wine was delicious and beautifully presented. Lunch prepared by the chef of restaurant Olivum exceeded all expectations – every dish was full of flavor and perfectly paired with the wines. What made the visit even more special was the guided tour of the vineyard led by Nico. His stories, knowledge, and passion for winemaking brought the whole experience to life. A truly unforgettable day – highly recommended to anyone who appreciates great wine, food, and warm hospitality!
We booked a tour easily for our group of 13, our host was very knowledgeable about the vineyard and explained all the processes brilliantly and answered all our questions with ease. The wine tasting was exceptional with 5 wines and 1 olive oil to enjoy. Most of us bought wine to bring home. Overall a fabulous well run small family business. Value for money was excellent at €40 euros per head. Can definitely recommend.
Wonderful and relaxing afternoon learning about the different grapes, climates, and how wine is made at this boutique winery. We had a relaxed tour and then tasted some lovely wines with meat, cheese, and bread. We were able to meet the owner as there is only about 6 employees. The operation is small and relatively new located in the valley so if you are looking for the rustic, large winery on a hill this is not for you.
Fabio was fantastic. He gave an amazing tour of the vineyard and the wine making process. We tasted a number of wines from fizzy rose to rich reds. They also make oil which is delicious and we tasted it with wine cheese an fabulous meats. They made a vegetarian dish for my wife which she enjoyed and I appreciated. It’s a smaller vineyard that had only a few other guests making it a perfect place to enjoy the Tuscan wine and learn about the process on how it is made. The family is so nice and shipping wines to the US is available.
We had a great time at this active vineyard. We arrived after a tour had already begun, but the host (Fabio) was flexible and let us join in the existing group for tasting the wine and the gave us a private tour of the vineyard afterwards. Fabio spoke excellent English and was able to answer all of our questions clearly. The environment was just lovely and the facilities they have established were perfect for our visit. Clean and tidy and very modern. The wine itself was clearly of very good quality and something Fabio was justly proud of. He provided breads, cheeses and meats to nibble during the tasting and they were locally sourced and also lovely. For €25 per person, I thought this was a great value and would highly recommend a visit if in the area.
Fantastic tour and tasting in beautiful Tuscany! We had a great time at Agrisole. We were able to taste all of their wines as well as their olive oil paired with bread, salami and cheeses and even homemade jams and the most delicious ragu. The wines are all reasonably priced and we enjoyed the small winery experience. Highly recommend.
The best wine tasting experience we’ve had in Tuscany! It so nice to have a sneak pick to a small, very professional, family business - they even engraved their children’s initials on each wine bottle. Nicoletta was very professional and her enthusiasm was contagious. The wine was delicious and Mama prepared some vegetarian options specifically for us 🤩 In the end we had to buy 2 bottles!

Super location in the centre of San Miato Alto. Very friendly and laid-back staff, accommodating for early arrivals and with an understanding of the specific needs of Via Francigena travellers. Some of the VF hostels can be a bit overbearing with their rules, here they found the perfect balance! I had a bed in the downstairs room which has two bunk beds and opens to a nice outside space. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and didn't squeak. Each bed space has a wall plug to charge your phone and power banks as well as a small light. The bathrooms and toilets were clean and there is an excellent small kitchen with a fridge and cooking utensils. What makes this Ostello so charming is the terrace just in front of the entrance overlooking the valley, a perfect place to chill, and have a meal or breakfast. Mosquito netting on the windows would be a nice touch!
We found the bathroom completely flooded and unusable. The place totally Lacks maintenance
Pros: directly on via Francigena, bed soft Cons: bathrooms flood and showers don’t drain, bad smell throughout hostel, pillows smelled like sweat, very hot but biggest problem is MOSQUITOES. Even with screens on window I still woke up covered in mosquito bites. Did not sleep at all between heat and mosquitoes
For a short stay, the Ostello is perfect.
Right in the center of San Miniato. Nice looking place with excellent facilities. Great value for money.

Beautiful and interesting facade.
The old seminary of san miniato

In 1705-1708, Bishop Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi commissioned the decoration of the facade to an artist named Francesco Chimenti. The eighteenth-century decoration makes the building a single large, perfectly united block and expands its surface area. The facade is decorated with 30 frescoes of allegorical figures of virtue, each accompanied by a biblical or Church Fathers quote explaining the meaning of the allegory. It is evident that there was a strong influence of the bishop in the creation of the iconographic program of the facade. Frescoes were important for conveying moral teachings and dogmas, as well as emotionally engaging the viewer. Furthermore, some of the phrases used accompanying the allegories come from a text written by Cesare Ripa, called Iconologia, which was used by many artists and which had a great influence on the figurative arts. (Translated by Google) The first phase of construction of the Episcopal Seminary of San Miniato began in 1650, but it took 63 years to complete its construction. Only from 1705-1708 did Monsignor Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi commission the decoration of the façade to Francesco Chimenti da Fucecchio. Although years have passed for the construction of the building, the eighteenth-century decoration makes the Palace seem like a single large, perfectly united homogeneous block, as well as expanding its wall surface. The façade of the Seminary is decorated with 30 frescoes of allegorical figures of virtue, each connected with a biblical or Church Fathers sentence that explains the meaning of the corresponding allegory. It is obvious, therefore, that, for the purposes of interpreting allegories, the connection between the meaning of the Latin maxim and the allegory that accompanies it is very important. We can believe that there was a strong influence of Monsignor Giovanni Francesco Maria Poggi in the creation of the iconographic program of the facade. The logic that follows the decoration is visible, for example, already from the first allegories starting from the wing at right angles to the rest of the building: here is the representation of the three theological virtues, namely Faith, Hope and Charity . They prepare Christians to live in relationship with God because he is known through faith, hoped for and then loved. It must certainly have been clear in the mind of the bishop of San Miniato that the allegory frescoes, like all images of a religious nature, are fundamental for transmitting a set of moral teachings and dogmas to the public, as well as having the ability to emotionally involve the viewer. Moreover, we must remember that the frescoes decorate a building, the Seminary, whose purpose is the learning of ecclesiastical principles and study: there must undoubtedly be a connection between the purpose of the exterior and the interior. Furthermore, in the mottos that accompany two allegories on the facade there are words taken from a Latin quotation found in the pages of the Iconologia in which Cesare Ripa describes the allegory of Chastity and the Christian Religion. These two allegories can be represented on the facade of the Seminary because they are two religious virtues. Furthermore, the "strange" coincidence of finding the exact words reproduced suggests that Monsignor Poggi directly used, at least in part, Cesare Ripa's Iconology. This text, first published in 1593, had many subsequent publications, including one in 1625, before the decoration of the facade. Iconology is one of the texts from which many artists drew inspiration and which had a great influence on the figurative arts. It is for this reason that to interpret the allegories of the Palazzo del Seminario the main text source is Cesare Ripa's Iconology published in 1625. In addition to this, however, I also used another very important text: the Moral Hieroglyphics by Vincenzo Ricci , text published in 1626. As regards the Latin mottos, however, they often show the name of the author on the facade, but, sometimes, the name painted in the box and the real author of the sentence do not coincide; furthermore, in some cases, the name of an author is not shown in the box on the front. We can hypothesize that this is due to the deterioration that the façade underwent between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century: it may have caused the disappearance of some names and the damage of others which may have then been mistakenly modified during the restorations. of the twentieth century.

Lovely biodynamic winery near the truffle capital of San Miniato offering great wine tasting lunch (come hungry) and a tour of the grounds and its cellar. English-speaking and pet-friendly.
Gorgeous views and thorough tour. We stopped here on our way to Pisa from Florence and learned a lot about the local grapes and special wine of this region. We tasted 3 different wines, ate bread with local cheese and olive oil. My 4 year old loved the dogs on site too. This is a quieter winery and with great service.
Lively place for a morsel and a drop of wine. Gorgeous vista's. Biodynamic wine. Delicious vin santo. Very friendly local dog. Plan for a couple of hours. Wine is a bit pricey.
We stumbled on this beautiful place on the way to Pisa from Florence. We were given a personal tour, wine tasting, and food samples, even though they had 2 bus loads of people. They were so kind and accommodating to us, and the wine and snacks were out of this world! The white wine was the best out of the 3 we tried! The information on our tour was so interesting as well. So glad to have found this gem! Highly recommend.
Went to a lunch and wine tasting while on a cruise shore excursion. Excellent prosciutto, salami, bread and cheese. Was absolutely fantastic time. Really good wine in beautiful country. Plus they had cute dogs running around!
Fantastic tour guide, amazing meal, flavorful wine tasting, all while the grapes were being harvested right next to us.
This vineyard was amazing! We had a tour and tasting with Maria herself!!! Very inviting and Biodynamic as well! Be prepared for lots of food and bread with your wine tasting!!!
Brilliant tour with some very tasty cheese meat bread and oil after. Your was great value and was really well delivered for all levels of experience. We also took our toddler around in his pram and that was no issue!

Francesca was the absolute best! She showed us how to hunt for truffles and we ended up finding five. She was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We did the cooking experience. Three little grandmothers brought us into the kitchen and taught us how to cook the most amazing meal. It literally felt like family teaching you how to cook. Honestly one of the best experiences I've ever had.
This place is absolutely beautiful and doing the truffle excursions with Francesca is such fun! We loved meeting the truffle dogs and eating the most delicious food; our group agreed our best meal of the trip was here. The wine is great also :)
We had such a great time on our truffle hunt! Levante, the truffle-hunting dog, was absolutely adorable, and we even found four white truffles. The lunch afterwards was also wonderful — delicious food and warm hospitality. Definitely recommend this experience!
Truffle Hunting at Fattoria Collebrunacchi was a once in a life time experience! We enjoyed the 3 hour truffle tour and lunch. Would like to thank Francesca for her kindness and hospitality. Learned many new things about truffles and nature. The wines from her farm were also great. They also sell unique products like truffle honey and truffle balsamic vinegar.
Every part of this experience was incredible. We stayed at the B&B and did the truffle hunting experience with Francesca. The truffle hunting experience was my favorite thing I did in italy (including a lot of beaches)— it was so unique and I learned so much about truffle hunting, and our hostess so extremely kind and knowledgeable. We had a multi course meal at the end with so much delicious wine. As for the bed and breakfast stay, it was wonderful— the room was beautiful, the views and location at the restaurant were among the best that I saw. The breakfast self-serve was also delicious. The whole experience was amazing, and the owners of the B&B went above and beyond in helping us call a cab to get to our train after checking out. Thank you collebrunacchi!!
This review is for the Truffle Hunt. Francesca and her team were absolutely wonderful. She was easy to communicate with, and she helped us organize all transport and timing. The launch point for the hunt is her lovely mansion dating from the 1400s that has been in her family for many generations. The truffle hunt itself was great - a nice walk through the woods while Francesca gave us the history of truffles, how to find them, their seasons and answered our many questions with good humor and charisma. Then we returned to the home for a delicious meal - one we all agreed was top three of our 10-day trip in Italy - that not only had truffles from her property, but estate olive oil and wine produced there as well. All delicious. Totally worth it for my two 78-year old parents, myself (50) and my 10 year old boys. Thanks Francesca!
Staying at the farm was our favourite experience of the Tuscany trip, including Cinque Terre and Florence. We were in San Minato for a wedding, and decided to stay on the farm. It's hard to do justice to the apartment, as it has a vintage style. But it was beautiful and different to anything we have stayed in before. The view all around is stunning. Now off to the best part, Paolo the host and his sister Francesca are one of the nicest people we have met. We booked a wine and local produce tasting, and it was THE BEST food we have tasted during our time in Tuscany (it says a lot, as all of the food from Riommaggiore to Florence that we had was great). We are planning to make another trip in spring, and do the truffle hunting experience, which sadly we didn't have time to try this time around. It's pretty cool, because the experience includes dishes infused with fresh truffles, along with the wine. In conclusion, if you want a nice authentic experience, please consider staying at the farm and trying out the activities it provides. I doubt you would find nicer hosts!
We had an outstanding truffle hunting excursion booked through Italy and Wine. It was truly an out of this world experience with a private truffle hunting tour with an expert hunter and cute doggie companion. We hiked through the gorgeous Tuscan hillsides and found 3 truffles! The hunt was followed by an extravagant lunch in which every dish featured the truffle in a unique way. I didn't know what real truffle smelled and tasted like until this excursion. A once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend the private truffle tour starting at Fattoria Collebrunacchi in San Miniato. Ciao!

(Translated by Google) The construction date of the building is uncertain, it is believed to have been built in the 12th century. The name is due to the legend, considered unfounded, according to which Matilde of Canossa was born in the adjacent Palazzo dei Vicari. Originally, the Tower with the Rocca di Federico II and the Torre delle Cornacchie (demolished in the 18th century) were the fulcrums of the fortifications of San Miniato. In 1438 the clock was built and in 1489 the Tower of Matilde, following the renovation of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and San Genesio, was connected to the church. Restoration work began in 2010. After the complex restoration work, since November 2014 the "Matilde's Tower" can be visited by paying for a ticket. Timetables and prices can be consulted on the website of the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art of San Miniato. The Tower represents a testimony to the military architecture in San Miniato when the town was under the aegis of the Holy Roman Empire. With a quadrangular plan, a crowning structure, with terminal aedicules, added in the 13th century.

Probably built in the 12th century, it was an important part of the city's fortification together with the Fortress of Frederick II and another tower (which now no longer exists). The tower is so called because there is a legend which claims that Matilde of Canossa was born in a nearby palace. In 1438 a clock was added and in 1489 the tower was connected to the cathedral after a renovation. There are now projects underway to restore and consolidate the structure.

A beautiful old church, showing everything that once represented churches. Large, high, with windows close to the ceiling that would give a sense of divine light entering the building. And of course, with many paintings of religious significance. A church is not so touristy, and it is not clear why it is in the very center of town. It is worth going in and taking a few minutes of quiet for the soul (even without believing).
The church of San Domenico, with its unfinished façade, stands in Piazza del Popolo. It contains frescos and paintings by the 14th – to 18th – century Florentine school
Give it a gander when you’re in San Miniato!
Amaizing place🙏
(Translated by Google) It was rebuilt on pre-existing structures in 1330, but the façade was never completed with the exception of the portal, with splays and architrave. The interior has a single nave, with side chapels which were closed in the eighteenth century, except for those in the presbytery. Some frescoes stand out, including the Stories of Saint Dominic, by Anton Domenico Bamberini assisted by eighteenth-century artists from Lucca, and the Transportation of Saint James, on the right counter-façade of the church, which testifies to the passage through the Via Romea of the Jacobean cult in ancient times.

My wife and I purchased 2 'all inclusive' tickets to all the cities museums, along with with city tower. We told the man who sold us the tickets our schedule, that we were only in San Miniato for 2 full days. Even with this information, he somehow failed to to tell us that only 2 of the 8 locations would be open during our stay, one of which was the museum that he was working at. Even worse, we explicitly told him we had the most interest in the tower. While they were seemingly helpful, we were disappointed by their inability to acknowledge the fact that almost all the locations would be closed during our stay. San Miniato was gorgeous and we loved it, but this was a severe disappointment.

Very enjoyable experience visiting here and tasting the wines. A nice diversity of wines beyond the Sangiovese which is so typical in this area. Eva was friendly, helpful and passionate which really made the experience memorable.
Amazing wines, incredibly warm and welcoming and beautiful property. The family grows Tempranillo that was found growing on the property that is from the 1800s and now make some amazing wines with it. My favorite wine in our two weeks in Tuscany was the old vine Tempranillo
Wine tasting at Pietro Beconcini Wines exceeded our expectations. We had a private tour with Anastasia, who clearly has a passion for the vineyard and the wines. We tasted a variety of Tempranillo (yes, grown in Italy!) and Sangiovese wines, including an outstanding Chianti riserva and a fabulous VinSanto dessert wine. We met Leonardo Beconcini, the owner of the vineyard, too. The pairing of pecorino, salumi and focaccia with their own olive oil enhanced the tasting. We definitely loved what we tasted…30 bottles of wine and olive oil shipped home! Highly recommend!
Eva was knowledgeable and kind. The wine was fantastic, and both their traditional and innovative wines were great to experience. Go with the Ying and Yang tasting.
What a great experience. Eva is so knowledgeable and even accommodated us one day early as we had made a mistake with our booking! Loved the 2017 Tempranillo - highly recommended
Me and my friend had a very good experience here, the people are incredibly helpful, kind and make you feel welcome immediately. It’s a beautiful location with very good wines! I definitely recommend paying this place a visit.
Absolutely amazing experience- highly recommend to anyone who is interested in high quality wines with a wonderful story behind them. We can’t wait to be back!

Absolutely love your city! A major highlight for anyone traveling through this beautiful country of Italy.
(Translated by Google) Very well kept, clean, organized San Miniato al Tedesco, meaning the upper, historical, medieval part. The Municipality of San Miniato is also made up of beautiful hamlets, perhaps a little forgotten, but of considerable historical interest, such as Cigoli which was the birthplace of Ludovico Cardi and Francesco Sforza, where you can admire a fresco of the Florentine school from 1300, depicting angels, in the ancient parish church dedicated to the Madonna dei Bimbi. Furthermore, the enchanting panorama gives you the sensation of flying over the Arno valley. The Municipality of San Miniato al Tedesco is also this small medieval village and much more.
(Translated by Google) I think we should distinguish between tourists and residents in the municipality or in the surrounding areas. The Municipal administration is something horrifying and it is enough to look at the landslides that have occurred in recent days. The Mayor, despite being alerted by the Technical Office, in which one of the main officials requested and obtained a transfer due to the impossibility of communicating and being heard by the first (intentionally lowercase) citizen, that the landslides would occur, which then promptly occurred (see the parking lot where it was a miracle that there were no victims) ignored everything. Not to mention the Municipal Police who despite the various reports of the precariousness and danger of Viale Marconi from the underpass included towards Fucecchio, where there is a totally confusing sign (just think that there is a sign prohibiting transit and immediately after one for circulation in both directions) that does not allow motorists to understand the directions. The Municipal Police has been alerted to all this where all the prohibitions are ignored by entering prohibited lanes without anyone intervening. In short....... Enjoy the Borgo but stay away from the civic sense and responsibility of the administrators, perhaps the worst in the entire district.
