Step into the past at Peterhead Prison Museum, a 19th-century prison that offers a self-guided audio tour. Often referred to as Scotland's own Alcatraz, this notorious prison was the site of significant events, including a siege that required intervention by the SAS. The museum provides insight into life for both inmates and guards through recorded testimonies and exhibits.
Visited on a Saturday and took the 12:30 guided tour of the Prison. There were about 12 or so people on the tour, and the guide was an ex-prison officer. You can just go through the museum yourself wearing headphones to hear a commentary, but I would highly recommend you take the guided tour because you will hear so much more about the prison and it’s inmates from someone who actually worked there along with some great anecdotes. Plus you can ask questions too that you wouldn’t be able to if you go self-guided… Our guide was very good. Guided tour lasted 1 & 1/2 hrs and there’s a cafe at the end, serving a great selection of meals, cakes, snacks and hot and cold drinks. Very reasonably priced too. There is also a lifeboat museum within the prison to visit too. Definitely worth visiting the museum and taking the guided tour option. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brilliant experience. Well recommend to visit. Staff were so helpful and amazing. There was no problem at all to leave my stuff save with them. Lots to see and learn. I’ve just went myself with audio headset and enjoyed everything. There is so much to see, but I’ll not be spoiling it with photos. Thank you !
Mariusz P — Google review
A really great museum with helpful and friendly staff. The audio tour was interesting and kept my kids, aged 7, entertained for about an hour and a half. They have short attention spans and get fed up easily, so this was a good achievement!
Claire T — Google review
This was a surprisingly fantastic venue to visit for all ages of the party from 7 years old to 67 years! You can go at your own pace, the route is clearly marked out and the extra kids puzzle kit kept them engaged with their surroundings. Definitely recommended as an easy way to kill a few hours with the family.
Joanne M — Google review
Very interesting visit. Audio guided tour gave insight as to how prisoners were treated and the way they were treated. The cells were spartan to sat the least, allied to a very tough regime I felt claustrophobic after the 90 minutes tour!
Joseph G — Google review
What a unique museum to visit with fantastic staff. David, our guide, was a prison guard a few years after the infamous riot. His dry humour and Doric twang was great. Seeing the prison was such an interesting experience, I am really glad I went along. You can choose to have a tour with a guide which is slightly more expensive or an audio tour. I would recommend paying for the guide as they will be able to answer your questions about daily life within the small group they take around. After they have given you the tour you are allowed to explore the prison yourself after being left at the Cafe at the end. I would leave yourself some time after the tour to go around and take it all in. There are a lot of newspaper cuttings and various things the prisoners and guards have put together after doing further research of the prison's history. If you are in Aberdeenshire go and see it, not many other places like it.

Loved it... Have been before but its really great to go and look around so did the tour with some italian friends had a really nice day really pleasant and friendly staff too 😊 great 👍

Great guided tour! The tour guide was very knowledgeable (great being toured by someone who worked there when it was in use as a prison). Really educational and fascinating! Entrance toilets were lovely and clean and the staff were all really friendly and helpful! Highly recommend visiting here as a tourist or as a local!

Nestled in the heart of Peterhead, the Arbuthnot Museum stands as one of the town's oldest cultural treasures, boasting a rich maritime heritage that dates back over 125 years. Established in 1863 by local visionaries and named after Alexander Arbuthnot, this charming museum offers an engaging glimpse into Peterhead’s history. Visitors can explore fascinating exhibits featuring detailed model ships, insights into agricultural advancements, and even fossils from Arctic creatures like bears and whales.
A good old fashioned museum on top of a lovely library. The stuffed animals and plastic robots made an endearing combo and the nooks and crannies revealed info about previous local celebs. A must see in NE Scotland.

Great for the kids. Lovely staff and you find out so much about Peterhead. Plus it doesn't cost much at all. Just a donation.

Food & Drink
I recently visited an impressive shop during my golf holiday where they offered a wide selection of beers, lagers, and stouts. I was particularly impressed by the unique combinations of flavors they had, especially the sour to the people variety. It's not just beer lovers who will find something here; they even have gin available! Additionally, their online delivery service is quick and efficient, ensuring customer satisfaction. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their products.
Great little bar with a selection of drinks on draught as well as takeaway. The owners were very friendly and helpful, even let us pick our own music to play! Certainly worth a visit if you're in the area and will definitely visit again.
Andy F — Google review
Great beer all made on site a long with the odd guest brewery making an appearance. Also do great food and why not pop in on a Saturday night for live music. Easily the best pint in Aberdeen never mind Peterhead. Keep up the good work guys. Also if you enjoy the beer why not buy some to takeaway
Martin M — Google review
Went to the Friday comedy night. Comedians we're good and the bar itself is quite nice although they do slightly overcharge for simple drinks. High score anyway because it seems this has become the norm.
Alex D — Google review
Great wee bar. Very tasty local beer, brewed on site.
Eoin S — Google review
Visited this brilliant shop a few weeks ago when on a golf holiday, excellent range of beers, lagers, stouts. Some absolutely brilliant flavours combinations, gotta try sour to the people There’s something for everyone here (even gin!!!) great merchandise too, the online delivery is excellent and quick Very friendly and welcoming staff, great knowledge and only wished could have visited the sample room, I’ll be returning soon to restock Don’t bother with brew dog, BrewToon the better option🍺🍺🍺

Always enjoyed our visit to Brewtoon in Peterhead. The staff are all so friendly and great atmosphere when we've been there at the weekends. Love the decor too, cool artwork that ties in nicely with the town. Their range of beers are brilliant and have turned a non beer drinker! My favourite is the Sour to the People or Raspberry Corronade.
Lindsay J — Google review
Great addition to Peterhead. The beer fans among my friends and family all highly rate their beers. Friendly staff, good atmosphere; nicely decorated venue. Good for both an evening out or a casual afternoon coffee.

Back in 5 minutes sign on the door, I returned 3 times in an hour still shut. No sale from me then..... I’ll certainly call in the next time I’m in Peterhead thank you for explaining the sign on your door. I’ve tried a few of your beers in various locations and they are excellent.

Golf Courses
Peterhead Golf Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland, dating back to 1841. Nestled among the dunes, it offers stunning views of the coastline and provides a true Scottish seaside golf experience. The 9-hole course is a delight to play, especially the middle holes set amidst the dunes. Visitors praise the friendly staff and excellent hospitality, with some even receiving special gifts from the club manager.
A gem, with magnificent views. You’ll feel like a local playing here. Pro shop gentleman was so welcoming. The course has tons of character with a laid back feel. Loved my round here!
Eddie S — Google review
Joined the 9 hole course this year after not being a member for over 30yrs. Great course to get me back into golfing again. Great that you can just do 9 in about 1hr 15mins so no excuse.
Philip L — Google review
We played the self contained nine holes and at first it seemed a little flat and inspiring, then we got to the third and fourth holes and it got much more interesting! Great course, great club house.
Marianne B — Google review
Absolutely a not to miss track. Great course, unpretentious people, great views and a great value. One of my new all time favorites .
John P — Google review
Super course in a great condition (played at the beginning of February). Back drop of the town of Peterhead and the North Sea make for a characterful course. Simple, but tasty catering served by very friendly staff.
Fraser S — Google review
Beautiful course, friendly staff, incredible value.
Peter R — Google review
A fun course that is a real pleasure to play, especially the middle holes way out in the dunes. While people that work on Scottish golf courses generally are very friendly, Peterhead is in front of everybody. We were treated like royalty, were able to change our tee time to a different day because of bad weather without a problem and got a fantastic gift from the club manager on top of that. We will surely be back another time!
Stef N — Google review
Played the winter course today, great fun in the sun. Well worth a visit, more tourists should make the short journey after a game at Cruden Bay and play here. Great service and hospitality, lovely cheeseburger and fries for under a fiver. Machine coffee, but very tasty! Thanks Peterhead!

The Caley Bar is a friendly and welcoming venue in Peterhead that has maintained its spirit over the years while undergoing renovations to become a live music hotspot. On Fridays and Saturdays, talented musicians take the stage, creating a lively atmosphere. The bar also boasts a playful obsession with Star Wars among both regulars and staff. With great food, old-school pub grub, and generous portions, it's an ideal spot for a pint and some evening fun.
Great atmosphere and always a good time to be had.

Nice little pub with a good atmosphere but far to small for live music which I love. If it was possible they should buy the bookie business next door and knock through, would make great business sense. And would be even busier

Fish & chips restaurant
Dolphin Cafe is a local fish and chip shop located in Peterhead, Scotland. It offers an authentic dining experience in the fishing port, allowing visitors to enjoy a traditional fish and chips lunch. The cafe is known for its friendly service and moderate portion sizes, providing a taste of the local cuisine enjoyed by fishery workers in the area.
Went here on recommendation; FOOD: I had double fillet haddock with chips, peas, coleslaw, bread and butter. The fish was outstanding! Lovely and light crispy batter, and cooked to perfection. Chips were non-greasy. 10/10 SERVICE: Good service from the pleasant waitress. 9/10 DECOR: Loved the model fishing boats dotted around. Toilets were clean and fresh. 8/10 X-FACTOR: Great location, down by the harbour, with fishing boats in view from the windows. Amazingly, when we went at 1530 on a Thursday we had the place to ourselves. 9/10 VFM: Great value! £38 for 2 people, including soft drinks, bread and butter. 10/10 Thoroughly recommended. 46/50 in total.

The hotel features modest yet inviting rooms equipped with en-suite bathrooms, TVs, and essential amenities like fridges and coffee-making facilities. Guests can indulge in delightful meals at the recently renovated restaurant and bar, where casual dining meets quality cuisine.
Had a great meal at the Waverly. Decent choice of good quality bar meals. Would highly recommend a visit. The staff were brilliant and good with the kids.
Craig R — Google review
We went in to a horrible smell of body odour from our server that followed him through the restaurant and he placed us ( a party of 3) in a comically small table in the corner, clearly made for 2. causing me to sit side on and have one a plate half off the table. The place was empty aside from 2 other parties. The food came, one order was wrong and all the salad was browning, clearly out of date, the batter was very rubbery and chicken chewy, chips were fine though. Not worth the price.
Michael D — Google review
Lovely evening dining with family. Menu was extensive and food delicious. Plenty of seating and the staff friendly and helpful.

Went for a celebratory meal for my husband's birthday. We are both tea total so the food is the main draw for us and the food was lovely. The service was faultless, nice bunch of girls waitressing there, polite, well dressed and friendly. The decor was warm and inviting and well maintained. Could not fault the Waverley Hotel. We are thinking about booking our Christmas dinner there this year.
Valerie S — Google review
Never had a bad experience here. Good value for food and good menu. Not too complicated and the kids meals are always spot on. Very good for lunch and supper. Staff are brilliant and service is fast. I would recommend booking at weekends to avoid disappointment.
Andrew G — Google review
Our party of 9 walked out due to rude staff and a health and hygiene issue. Staff put their hands into glasses to remove ice from drinks which they got wrong. My grandad who is an amputee, from below the knee, asked for no ice. We were regular customers and shocked by the attitude of the waitress who slammed the glass on the bar and made comments to her workmate about us. Family in our party were visiting from Luxembourg so this meal was a special get together. We are very disappointed this evening

The Seaview Hotel is a small, intimate establishment situated in the picturesque West End of the city. It boasts tastefully adorned accommodations, an inviting greenhouse restaurant, and a convivial lounge area. Visitors can expect a warm reception from the friendly and obliging staff who consistently strive to ensure guests have an unforgettable stay. The rooms are impeccably maintained and furnished to an exceptional standard. The bathrooms are impressive, equipped with ample hot water and excellent showers.
Had Sunday lunch at the Seaview Hotel, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and veg, with a side dish of cauliflower cheese. The food was absolutely delicious and the 2 young waitresses were lovely, nothing was too much trouble, so friendly and smiley. Would definitely recommend this place for Sunday lunch.
Patricia D — Google review
We have to say that this wasn't bad. Visited after a trip round the prison museum. This is scored as the best food in Peterhead....and it's not even in Peterhead. The negatives were the home made rolls (tiny and uncooked inside), the overcooked veg and the cheesecake with little in the way of base. However, the roast dinners were otherwise good and the Yorkshire puddings impressive. Also, the sticky toffee pudding was good.
Sweeney T — Google review
We found this cozy little gem in our last adventure, we found ourselves in a spotless clean room, an extra comfy bed, and a generous size bathroom. Shower water pressure is on point 🚿, and I will definitely recommend it. The food was good, although we only tried the Fish & Chips [many thanks to the chef for cooking a hot meal for us a little after closing time] Staff was friendly, and we had a great time at the bar talking to the manager/ owner and a few locals.
Sonia R — Google review
Just back from a lunch at the Seaview. We’re out on a sunny day enjoying our 44th wedding anniversary. At lunchtime thought about dropping into the Seaview. It was quiet so asked for a table (set for 3) to catch a glimpse of the sea, but no, apparently only options today are tables set for 2. Could only imagine a bus of booked passengers were about to arrive. Alas not. Food rated okay. Fish goujons poor advert for local fish. Too much batter not enough fish. Chicken pie was fine said hubby. Enjoyment influenced by the way our request for table was dealt with. This used to be a regular for us. Often given good reviews in the past and enjoyed family celebrations here. We might have stayed longer. Can’t say we’ll be back.

A small, plain, and somewhat outdated room . The hotel has a pretty nice view , but not in the room I was in though. The food quality was disappointing. I ordered the seafood mac and cheese, but I mistakenly read it as it was Tesco-style “sea-view mac and cheese “ .The mac and cheese was overpriced and served with cheap fries. Maybe it depends on what you order... however, my meal was nothing more than the Tesco set menu.

Indian restaurant
Asha's Indian Aroma in Peterhead is a hidden gem tucked away in a small alley off the main street. The restaurant offers a beautiful and abundant buffet with delicious food, friendly staff who provide top-notch service, and a lovely ambience. The menu boasts a wide selection of beverages, appetizers, and meals that are sure to satisfy any palate. Whether you're looking for some spice or milder flavors, the attentive staff will guide you to the perfect dish.
After looking for a nice restaurant to go to without travelling through to Aberdeen i went to Asha's Indian Aroma in Peterhead. This was well worth the visit. Was constantly looked after by the staff from the minute we walked in until we left. I like a bit of spice but not too extreme so i asked the waiter what they recommended and they were spot on. I have found my new favourite dish. I visited on a Saturday so was busy but we expected that. My only regret is not going on the Sunday night as i saw the menu for their buffet and i will be returning to try that. It was a party of 3 and our bill was fairly priced for the experience that we received and the standard and portion sizes of the food. It was a good amount of food that we were given boxes so we could take our leftovers home.
James D — Google review
The host was a friendly woman. The food was expensive and honestly really tasteless. It feels like it has not a lot to do with Indian food. During dinner I felt like there must be a pizza place on the backdoor: the Naan we got was that thick that it could be considered a (plain/garlic) pizza. For two plates of food and two cokes we paid rougly 48£. Only cash was accepted. Would not recommend anyone if looking for Indian food. Its a pity i didnt take any photos.

Amazing Experience at "Asha's Indian Aroma"! I recently visited "Asha's Indian Aroma" and had an incredible experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with beautiful decor that truly captured the essence of Indian and Bengali culture. The food was absolutely delicious! I tried several dishes and they were cooked to perfection, bursting with authentic flavors. The portion sizes were generous, and the presentation was impressive. The staff was very courteous and attentive, making sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. They even provided great recommendations for dishes based on our preferences. Overall, I highly recommend "Asha's Indian Aroma" to anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine. It’s a great place for family dinners, casual outings, or even special occasions. Can’t wait to visit again! Murshed!
Shedz — Google review
I had ordered from them once in the past and the food (lamb chops/biryani/chicken starter) was soggy and very greasy. The portions however were of decent size but lacked quality. If you are thinking of trying this place, do yourself a favour, save your pallet from being engulfed with grease by going somewhere else!
Asim B — Google review
Starter and main course absolutely lovely, so much choice. Staff beyond helpful and attentive. The 3 star is because there were not a lot of people sitting in. Don't let the entrance down an alley way put you off.

Delicious food & great staff, sadly there was only one other table in, so there wasn’t much atmosphere.

Today, my experience at Asha Indian Takeaway was simply delightful. The flavours were truly amazing! We savoured dishes like Tarka dal, Sag paneer, rice, and Bombay aloo, all prepared to perfection with just the right amount of spiciness and rich Tarka flavor, sans any overwhelming sweetness. I can't help but suggest they rename it to "Asha Aromatherapy Curry" - that's how much we relished the meal!
