Thai restaurant
Bakgården Thai Restaurant, located just a 5-minute walk from the accommodation, is a highly recommended dining option in Andalsnes. The restaurant offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere with attentive staff and an attractive interior design. Guests have the option to dine both indoors and outdoors, and the facilities including the restroom are well-maintained. Convenient parking is available nearby. The service is prompt, and the food served is incredibly delicious.
Nice to have ethnic food in Andalsnes. The menu can be completely vegetarian if necessary and not only is it good it is quite filling. The red curry was delicious even though it had no fish sauce in it. The chicken was also quite good. The restaurant is really cute and has a really happening bar associated with it across the patio. Would highly recommend if you want a break from the expected foods of Norway when you are so far away from big towns. Would come back here again for sure!

Quite a good place with a tasty food and friendly service. Food was cooked very quickly and it was good, I asked for a little spicy dish and got no spicy at all. I put 4 only because of no spicy when I asked for a little spicy and I personally find this place quite dark: not enough light and black environment. Other than that - definitely good food for this price.
Andrii — Google review
This was my favorite restaurant in Åndalsnes. Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. Absolutely delicious and fresh food. Fast and charming service. Adequate pricing and fairly large portions.
Agatha — Google review
The menu appeared to be non-vegan but the servers were more than happy to veganize their pad Thai with tofu instead of meat and no egg. Really nice portion size for the price with more veggies than you often get with pad Thai, a good spice level too! Thanks for the tasty meal
Sean A — Google review
One of the best times I have had Thai food outside of Thailand. Food tasted authentic and the spice levels were just right. Definitely recommend to fulfill your Asian tastebuds.
Hamza I — Google review
Excellent Thai dinning experience. There's a good amount of dishes to select, not too many or too few, which is ideal for a restaurant that want to keep food fresh. The location might be a little bit obscure, unlike other restaurants that are more eye catchy as they are located near main streets. But, its not hard to find it and the environment has a well executed atmosphere and the staff is super friendly. They serve from spicy to very spicy, to well balanced sweet n sour. I've personally ordered number 5, which was chicken and cashew based dish. It was great. Others ordered number 16, scampi pad thai, which was a noodle based dish that came with grounded chili flakes and cashew, as well as lime slices. So you could spice and acid it to your preference. It was also an amazing dish. Would dine here again in the future. Very pogo place :)

Pizza restaurant
Piccola Mama Rosa is a charming pizzeria with a pleasant staff and an unusual location on the first floor of an office building. The veranda is a lovely spot to enjoy your meal, especially on warm days. Visitors were impressed by the veggie pizza and found the prices reasonable. The spicy chicken pizza and kebab plate were also delicious, although some felt that the portion size could be more generous for the price.
Delicious food in a causal dining atmosphere, staff were friendly and prices were reasonable. Loved the ravioli.
Sarah H — Google review
Their portion size is huge ! Pizza tasted amazing as well. Service time is good !
Mayoo N — Google review
Mama Rosa is a surprisingly solid choice for good Italian food at an affordable price. I had lasagna which was better than I expected. Lots of people were having pizzas, which also looked good. The second floor location gives them a nice balcony with a view.
Martin B — Google review
Hidden Gem with Great Food! Don't let the old-fashioned street-level appearance deter you – there's a fantastic restaurant upstairs on the second floor! Inside, it's clean, bright, and the staff are incredibly friendly. On warmer days, you even have the option to sit out on the terrace. Over two days, we tried a variety of dishes including pizzas, a burger, and chicken fillet with fries, and everything was delicious. It definitely hit the spot and satisfied our hunger!
Prinssieversti — Google review
I ate the “husets burger” and it was pretty good. Tried my friends aioli on bread and it was the best aioli I have ever tasted. Cute little place, but the view ain’t good. At least you can sit outside, even when it’s raining. Prices were ok.

It was here ( MIX-TALLERKEN ) 🤤😄 .. so delicious ,, 👌🤍
Ibranasser1 — Google review
Really good pizza and fresh products A bit dissapointing that the small dog (teckel) was not allowed on the outside balcony terrace so had to commit to a take a way meal and eat it at the harbour side.

Perched over 700 meters above Andalsnes, Eggen Restaurant offers a delectable dining experience with locally sourced ingredients and traditional Norwegian cuisine. The restaurant boasts unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Accessible via a scenic gondola ride, it provides an unforgettable experience for visitors. While the waiting time for service may be a drawback, the stunning location and delicious food make it worth a visit.
Absolutely delicious food! The portions were generous, and the homemade cinnamon bun that followed was a real treat. What truly stood out was the amazing staff – so friendly and kind, they even gave us some great tips for our hike. Highly recommend!
Jan K — Google review
The ride on the gondola was smooth and pleasant. The views and the paths around are stellar. The food is tasty and the staff are very kind! The view from the restaurant is not to be missed! There are even dog houses to keep them in while you are in the restaurant!

The restaurant has a really pleasant vibe – the food is tasty, fresh, and nicely presented. The atmosphere feels cozy, perfect both for a quick lunch or a longer dinner. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to give recommendations. Overall, a great experience and I’d be happy to come back.
Robert M — Google review
This restaurant and hiking paths were highlights of our trip to Norway. So much so, we went twice. I don’t know what was the best part: the food, the view, the people, or the hiking trails! The food: it was fresh, locally sourced, well seasoned, and perfectly prepared. For a tourist attraction, it is uncommon to find food of this high caliber. If you are lucky enough to see Greek meatballs (chef is Greek) treat yourself to an order, and then refuse to share it with your fellow diners. They are fantastic! The daily fresh fish was amazing, my daughter’s burger was very tasty and perfectly cooked. I wish we lived close enough to go here more often. The views: look at the pictures posted in the reviews, I don’t need to comment further. The views are spectacular. We were there in both sunshine and in fog, and both were beautiful in their own, right. The people: the service from the gondola operators down below, to the staff in the restaurant, everyone was wonderful. Polite, cheerful, and gave you a feeling they were genuinely happy to see you. The hiking trails: there are trails up top that are for every walking ability. Just be aware, you are walking out in nature on rocks- not some Disneyified place with handholds and perfectly cut paths. If you are not overly stable on your feet, then maybe take a pass on venturing too far, and take a bench and soak in the beautiful views. Either way you can’t lose. We will definitely be back! A perfect way to spend a day in town.
C K — Google review
Amazing views, you should book a table in advance to get a table with the best views. The obvious choice of food is the 4-course, and it is amazing. Professionally cooked and presented. You can walk up, very exhausting, or take the gondola which is decently expensive, but worth it.
Jonatan J — Google review
Nestled in a location with truly breathtaking views, this restaurant is all about the setting. While the view through the windows is picturesque, stepping outside reveals a panorama that’s nothing short of stunning—worth the visit on its own. Unfortunately, the food doesn't live up to the scenery. The prices lean toward the high end, and the flavors don’t quite justify the expense. With so many delightful eateries nearby, you're better off grabbing a bite elsewhere unless you're absolutely famished.

Spiseriet Soltinn is a charming cafe and restaurant nestled within a shopping mall, offering a delightful surprise to visitors. The friendly staff and cozy atmosphere create an inviting space to enjoy a variety of food options. Despite its unassuming location on the second or first floor of the mall, it offers unexpectedly stunning views of the mountains. Guests have praised the excellent food with generous portions, such as the Caesar Salad, beef burger, and pork chop/sausage special.
This cafe/restaurant is located inside a shopping mall and it was a great discovery. We only had a coffee there but they serve a lot of different option for food. The staff was really friendly and the place has a really cozy vibe. I cannot judge the food because I didn't try it but this is somewhere I would definitely come back! Highly recommended! 👍

Not so nice staff, I ordered cod and a milkshake only got the milkshake. After 1 hour I got a refund for not getting my food.

Quite a nice and cozy place. I went here for a quick cup of coffee and brownies while waiting on a bus. They also had these boxes of tea tarts / loose leaf tea bags, you don't find these easily as far as I'm concerned. I was surprised by the price, it all came for a total of only 189kr - coffee, brownies and a box of tea tarts. Other baristas have charged me more for only a brownie. One thing I felt they could use is a smoking area outside. Tl;dr: -Great price -Cozy place -has terrace but no chairs there

Location might seem dull - second/first floor of a small mall, but has surprisingly good views of the mountains. Food was excellent the Ceasar Salad was the best I'v ever had!

Waited for an hour for the burgers, cold chicken pasta salad was just unimpressive and oily. Staff were unhelpful and uncommunicative. Past picture of the charcoal bun burger were not from this place! Not sure where that burger was from. Would not recommend this place!

Waited two hours for two burgers. Staff run around like goats with diarrhoea and refuse to serve food to the right customers, even when presented the receipt. Avoid like the bubonic plague.

Nice place with a great atmosphere and good service. Made focaccia, pesto and salad for a vegan option. Good range of cakes but unfortunately none that were vegan. Will definitely come again when next in Åndalsnes.

The fish and chips were fine, but the service was disappointing. We sat for five minutes without the table being cleaned or receiving menus, even though the restaurant wasn’t very busy.
Walid O — Google review
This is a nice little bistro restaurant. Very cost and friendly staff. I think we hit them on an off day as their was a festival in town and the place was completely booked with people coming in off the street all the time asking about availability. The menu is traditional bistro with burgers, fried fish, spare ribs and so on. We enjoyed the meal but would like to come back another time where the staff had more time.

Food was decent, but the service was lacking as table service wasn't great, but had no problem otherwise.

Rampestreken is a popular trail leading to an observation deck perched on a rugged mountainside, offering stunning views of dramatic peaks and fjords. The hike uphill can be challenging but provides ample opportunities to rest and admire the scenery. Visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Andalsnes town below and the surrounding mountains. Additionally, there is a restaurant called Eggen where hikers can enjoy coffee and sweets, although prices are on the higher side.
Coming from someone who isn’t as fit, the hike was not easy..but the view was totally worth it! 70% of the hike was nicely shaded so you could pace yourself and take breaks when needed. A lot of climbing, especially as you get closer to the viewpoint. Took us about 45mins going up. Do note that the restaurant and gondola remains closed on Monday (day we were hiking). Highly advisable to go early in the morning to avoid large crowds (they come in at 10am and above).
Suria M — Google review
Took a while to get to the top but goodness me was it worth it! Plenty of opportunities to sit and catch your breath, lots of friendly people to talk to on your way up, and of course the views were absolutely incredible! It might feel a bit exhausting when you’re climbing but you’ll feel so good when you get right to the top! We took the gondola back down though as we were very tired, which itself was lovely and very fast! Highly recommend!
Megan M — Google review
We went up independent after everyone had all ready gone up it cost about £40 pounds return but we'll worth it cafe lovely hot chocolate and toilets. Fantastic views and walk ways. When we was last car down 16.00pm.
Rosemary W — Google review
From the summit to that ramp it takes about 25-30 minutes to walk down, and from the bottom to walk up, I heard people that they did about 1.5 hours on a relaxed hike. Views are great

Cable cabine was very expensive, however you can decide to climb (2km ~600m elevation). We had unstable weather so we decided to take lift, it was good decision and worth it. You can hike higher from cable cabine station, very well marked routes which gives incredible view points all around. Just take wind and watter proof jacket and dress well, in 5min weather can be completely changed.
Marek B — Google review
My wife and I took the gondola up and down. We were limited on time and found the gondola to be worth the price. The views from the upper gondola station are beautiful, and there's a few walking trails you can take. The Rampestreken viewpoint, however, is one of the more iconic options. The gondola station is actually even higher than the Rampestreken viewpoint. You need to descend down and then back up. I read a lot of reviews that scared me, people saying it was very hard to do this. I was also very worried about the trail itself and how safe it would be. To my surprise, getting to/from Rampestreken from the gondola was actually quite simple. Most of the trail is full of stairs, some made of stone, and others of rock. There are some parts of the trail that require a little more mobility, but it was nothing that we couldn't manage. It took us about 30-45 mins at a very slow pace to head down, and the same to come back. I actually found the way back to be much easier, despite it being uphill. Yes, I was out of breath, but going down required some balance, while going up was mostly steps. The trail is most difficult toward the top, and is a bit easier near the viewpoint. The views are well worth it. The entire way is full of spots you can stop and enjoy the scenery. The viewpoint itself is also very iconic and worth going to if you have the time and energy! The only thing I will suggest is avoiding days where it is raining. If everything was wet and muddy, things would have been much more difficult. You can still enjoy the views from the Gondola station and try the other trails.
Maneetpaul S — Google review
Hard going for someone who is unfit, but doable if you take your time. I’m 57 and have two bad knees but I made it. It’s very steep over rocks and tree roots, with a lot of big stone stairs. But it’s worth it and the cafe etc at the top is welcome.
Shaun C — Google review
Hike to 540moh is not one of easy...spare time and take gondola to eggen restaurant and hike some 100m down to rampa. For me, that was 3rd hike over 500m in the last 12 hours, and it was difficult. But the trail is awesome. Stairs from massive stones. Stunning view points along the way up.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Andalsnes, Norsk Tindesenter is a must-visit experience center that welcomes adventurers year-round. This interactive hub celebrates the rich mountaineering heritage of the region, offering visitors a chance to explore exhibitions detailing the thrilling history of climbing and base jumping. For those looking to test their skills, there's Norway's highest indoor climbing wall with routes suitable for all abilities.

Staff seems to be bored and unmotivated. We asked for hiking recommendations. What we got was just an brief map, unclear directions and no information on the current conditions of the trails. We ended up cutting our hiking short as the trails were slippery and dangerous.
Fernando A — Google review
We found the museum really insightful. The staff is very friendly and the exhibition has some interacting areas. I found very interesting the explanation on how gear for climbers evolved throughout the years and how it developed. Inside there is also a climbing wall you can use and the price is included in the ticket. We also watched the documentary about trolls and mountains and that was interesting as well. I would definitely recommend this when visiting Andalsnes.

We were there in May which is a great time to visit Andalsnes as it's not as touristy. The food at the café was good (be aware that the kitchen is closed on Sunday) and the view was amazing. The Staff were super nice and because it was slow when we were there, they spent some time talking to us which added to the great atmosphere.

Nesaksla, a popular hiking destination, attracts hikers from various nearby attractions such as Romsdalseggen and Romsdalstrappa. The opening of The Romsdalen Gondola and Restaurant Eggen in 2021 has added to its appeal, offering diverse food experiences at an elevation of 708 meters. Visitors can comfortably reach the mountain station by cable car before embarking on their exploration.

Took a tram up and hiked for hours....well also sat on the rocks and just took in all the beautiful sites and sounds. If you found yourself in Andalsnes, No way this is a hike you'll want to do. For those really into hiking you can hike up or down with a tram ride one-way......or hike up and down if you're really up for that.

we climb up with our 6 years old daughter and 1 year old son in baby kraxe. it took us 3 hours with breaks! but it was fun and worth the views. the hike is definitely challenging. but its not risky if you have sure footedness! respect the mountain and walk the path made you will be fine. cam back by gandola! walking down may be more risky then going up! def not recommended on a rainy day!

Beautiful scenery, its a "must do" if you are in Andalsnes. Gondola rides are quite expensive, nearly £45 return (495 Nok for adult atm). We went up with Gondola (one way is 330 Nok, about £30), and trekked down. Fortunately we had a really good weather with sun out and dry, could not ask better, so the path were not so slippery, but I can imagine if it was rainy or icy, then will be very slippery and would be not pleasant experience. I enjoyed going down a lot, challenging but rewarding as well, as you see great views on the way down and enjoy as long as you wish. One of the best sceneries I've seen in Norway so far!!! *If you have weak knees, a weak heart, or have any bit of mobility issues, I would not recommend going up or down as this path is quite steep, lots of steps and challenging! Make sure to wear proper hiking shows!

The Golden Train is a picturesque train journey that has been recognized as one of Europe's most scenic rides. It travels through the stunning Romsdalen valley, offering breathtaking views of natural wonders such as Trollveggen, Verma waterfalls, and Kylling bridge before reaching the village of Bjorli. The train's name originates from the historical event when Norway's gold reserves were temporarily hidden in Bjorli by King Haakon during World War II.
A stunning adventure and experience! What amazing views we got during this journey! Well guided with good information! Train starts from the station in the centre. Very easy to reach by car, walking, or from the cruise ship! It is extremely nice to combine with the gondola and restaurant at the top of the mountain!

INDEPENDENT CRUISE BOOKINGS MUST READ THIS. We were booked on the 12 July while visiting on s cruise. Unfortunately, due to operational problems, ALL independent bookings were cancelled. These things happen except over 20 people didn't receive any notification the local representative was stuck with no information about how to resolve concerns and to add insult to injury those booked through the cruise line were allowed on. You are warned that booking excursions independently may result in the ship leaving without you. In this case, you may not even go in the first place so beware.

Sødahlhuset in Åndalsnes is a charming and delightful find, perfect for a family journey. The place exudes "hygge" with its cute ambiance, delicious food, and friendly service. The unexpected beautiful garden patio at the back adds to the idyllic dining experience. The menu offers a variety of options including brown cheese, yummy bread, carrot soup, coffee, candies, burgers, pizza, and carrot cake.
One of our favorite cafes in Norway!! Such a beautiful spot to sit for a bite or a meal -- we LOVED the casual vibe and it was incredibly family/child-friendly. The decor was very homey, the food was excellent (especially the cinnamon buns!! The best we've had so far!), and the staff were kind, accommodating, friendly, and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our food and experience there, we really can't say enough good things about them -- it's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!!

Nice cinnamon roll, tiny tinge of cardamon.Found a hair embedded in the roll Instantly turned off it, originally 7/10 , bit doughy but I might not be the best judge as cinnamon rolls aren’t my first choice but definitely bumped down to 3/10, a hair in your food instantly ruins anything, especially as it was baked into the roll Hot chocolate was really hot (duh in the name), a rich dark chocolatey flavour but overall I was excited for the fresh cream and chocolate shavings on top like I’d seen in multiple other reviews. Good balance, not overly sweet, not too rich; floating oil as if melted butter/separated cream, I’m not mad definitely would add a thicker creamy texture. 7/10, disappointed I didn’t get the same experience others had, no reasoning behind the stripped back hot chocolate but at its core was a good drink. The lady at till was friendly and quick, what more could you want. My hot chocolate took 5 minutes which it’s perfectly acceptable. After that I was left alone to finish and leave which I also don’t mind. Would’ve been nice to have a takeaway option especially for the hot drinks to take out. But the views out the window is pleasant, cable cars coming back with Mountain View’s over the sea.

Please make some more effort for vegans.... The menu on the website is misleading. No vegan wrap, no soup and no quinoa salad were offered at the time I visited. All I could get were a simple salad and two pizzas: a red one and a white one, for exorbitant prices. I asked for the red one. I got the white one. Anyhow, no effort at all was made. Too much oil for this thin dough, too little baking, only some vegan cheese on top, olives, onions, pears for some reason and lettuce for some other reason. It wasn't sliced, and it was pretty difficult to slice it with a regular knife because of how sticky it was. The Vegan cheese was good, but a pizza (especially one that costs about 20 eur) is more than a soggy dough with cheese.. Even for a tiny town like this, I expected more.

Although we only stopped by for a quick bite, we loved this cafe! There was a large party in ordering lunch but that didn’t affect the service. Sadly we couldn’t stay to try a cinnamon bun, which looked amazing! Would definitely recommend and we hope to come again some day.

After reading other reviews I had high expectations. My minimum was good coffee. Seeing menu I was tempted to try pizza. Unfortunately I was disappointed by both. Coffee was ok. And food shouldn't be called pizza but flatbread with toppings - as a pizza fan I can't stand charging people loads of money for something that's not equal with quality. For the same prize I was eating proper sourdough pizza in Oslo. Service was really young and nice. I understand young people also need to work but they should be mixed with someone experienced. Toilet was disaster. Smelled like it wasn't cleaned for a longer time.

Great atmosphere, a lot of hand made details, small shop with some soap, bags and sweets, most of them are local and handmade. Sometimes they have live concerts. Food is good, burger's bread is awesome. Kitchen sometimes can be slow, I waited for my order approx 30 mins. Stuff are really friendly and helpful 😊
