Museums
The Science Museum of Minnesota, established in 1907, is a sprawling complex located on the north banks of the Mississippi River. The museum offers hands-on exhibits and IMAX dome theater movies that explore various scientific disciplines. Visitors can delve into evolution, paleontology, and the natural history of Minnesota, with an extensive collection of fossils including stegosaurus and triceratops bones. Additionally, the museum hosts diverse traveling exhibits such as Viking history and Egyptian mummies.
TONS of activities for all ages to engage your mind and lots of exhibits to see. There are even musical stairs - that was super neat! Dinosaur exhibit, sports activity section, old-time gadget section, shells, tug boat, weather station, ... oh, and make your own tv news broadcast - that was a comical blast!!! - - and so much more. Spent the entire afternoon here & finished with a movie. Parking was safe & easy. Highly recommend.

One of my favorite museums growing up going on school field trips. Went back on my 24th birthday and still loved it 😁 I'm a little disappointed they removed the upstairs restaurant though because that was my favorite and the cafe isn't the same otherwise it was awesome. 10/10 recommend for all ages

A Fantastic, Educational, and Fun Experience for All Ages! I recently visited the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul, and it was truly a wonderful experience. This museum is a perfect blend of education and entertainment, offering something for everyone — from curious kids to inquisitive adults. The exhibits are not only informative but also incredibly engaging. You can tell a lot of thought and care has gone into designing each section to make science accessible, hands-on, and fun. One of the highlights for me was the dinosaur exhibit. The fossil displays were impressive, especially the triceratops skeleton, and the interactive stations explaining paleontology were great for kids and adults alike. Another standout was the Human Body Gallery, which had fascinating displays on anatomy, health, and even real preserved organs (not for the squeamish, but definitely educational!).The museum also features rotating exhibits — when I visited, there was one about climate change and sustainability that was both eye-opening and hopeful. It didn’t just present the problems, but also showed real-world solutions and how people can take action. The staff and volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to answer questions or guide you through the exhibits. Everything was clean and well-maintained, and there were plenty of places to sit, snack, or take a break. The gift shop and café were also enjoyable additions to the experience. If you're in the Twin Cities area, this museum is absolutely worth a visit. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, the Science Museum of Minnesota is an enriching destination that makes learning truly enjoyable!

This is a wonderful hands on interactive science museum with so many fun places for kids and adults to learn. The IMAX movie was fantastic. Dinosaurs and the human body exhibits were excellent. Have a nice lunch on the Mississippi River.

I was surprised I had to pay for entrance since every other state I've lived in was free. $60 for me and the kid. Kids hotdog was $12 for just a regular old dog. Double Smash burger was $20. Way over priced place I think. Other than that they are a very nice museum. The T.Rex Imax was great. 8yo loved it. Not over crowded and very clean. I actually like St Paul much better than Minneapolis.
Johnny R — Google review
Worth the visit! Family of 4 (including 15yo & 10yo) spent 3 hours here and truthfully could have easily spent 4 hours covering the 3 floors of hands on fun. * get tickets ahead of time and avoid the entrance bottleneck * we paid $19 to park next door in river view parking lot.

Absolutely amazing, I visited it a month ago during a summer camp with my friends, and I love the interactive exhibits!

What an experience. We went with our kids and figured it would be an hour or two. It was a whole half day excursion. There are so many different activities and things to look at and do. It's absolutely a great place to visit and well worth the time

Botanical garden
Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is a must-visit attraction located near the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in Saint Paul. The site features the stunning Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, an Art Nouveau structure housing bonsai trees and sansui gardens. Surrounding the conservatory are manicured gardens with elegant bridges and sculptures of animals like giraffes, penguins, and wolves.
We enjoyed our visit. It can get busy with school groups & camps, but we were still able to find decently close parking & were able to enjoy an afternoon of seeing animals. Highly recommend catching a Sparky show and checking out the unique gift shop finds. The gardens are lovely to visit as well.
Sarah R — Google review
Open to the public... no admission ticket is required, but a small donation is encouraged. Accessible to all abilities. Fun for all ages. Lots of animals as you would expect for a zoo, some more active than others. Make sure to check out the (Sparky) the sea lion show. Check show times when you arrive. Have fun and drink plenty of water.
Mike E — Google review
Excellent family outing! Como Zoo is a wonderful place to spend the day while learning about various animals. The zoo offers scheduled feedings and shows that are absolutely worth watching, adding fun and educational value to the visit. The animals appear to be well cared for, and the overall experience is both enjoyable and meaningful. Highly recommended for families!
Anita S — Google review
Despite the humidity it was awesome! The combination of plants and animals makes you feel like you are in the forest or at times a jungle! The lily pad and Japanese collection were my favorites. It was also cool to see fruit trees from different countries with the branches bearing fruit. I was surprised by the number of spices they had in their native forms too. Hands down, one of the best FREE conservatories I've visted.
Drew J — Google review
This is 1 of my favorite places in all of Mni Sota. I’ve visited this zoo since I was a young child. They have a plethora of inside gardens & a beautiful indoor rainforest exhibit. The outside is teeming with creatures from all over the world. Don’t forget to check out the Japanese Garden too. They have made a number of renovations in recent years & that has really spruced up the experience. Chief of these is the Sea Lion area where they put on daily shows. It’s pretty state of the art now. Did I mention it’s entirely free to the public. If you’ve never been check it out & if it’s been awhile it’s definitely worth revisiting.
Isaiah W — Google review
The Como Zoo is such a unique and beautiful place to visit. During the winter months being able to stroll through the lush plants in the conservatory is a welcome respite from the cold and dark months. It can be busy, but it's still worth the trip to see everything. Highly recommend.

Absolutely, it's a beautiful place. If you haven't been there in a while, I suggest that you go back. They've made a ton of updates that make the place look and feel more restored and renewed. It's definitely a place that I need to go to again, and very soon. The fact that you're able to talk to the workers there and that they're very helpful and kind was amazing as well. It's very family-oriented, and it was just an all-out blast.
Alexis R — Google review
The fact that there is no admission fee makes this my GO TO ZOO. I suggest getting there as close to opening as possible to get stress free, nearby parking. But there are lots and street parking all around! I visit como with my 3 year old and it checks all the boxes. Cool plants, some animals, a sparky sea lion show of the PERFECT length for short attention spans. You can bring your own snacks (the consession options are expensive but hey you got in for free so I believe in purchasing from them for support) all in all a great zoo and beautiful conservatory. My kiddo loves it. Perfect family outing:)

The Minnesota History Center, situated in the heart of Saint Paul near the state Capitol buildings, offers over 4,000 square meters of museum space. It showcases a wide range of exhibits and interactive experiences that delve into Minnesota's history, including the presence of Hmong tribespeople and conflicts like the Dakota War. The center also houses the Minnesota History Center Library, which is open to the public for research purposes. Visitors can explore intriguing exhibitions, live performances, and educational programs suitable for all ages.
This was our first time visiting and we will definitely be back! There are so many artifacts and exhibits. We arrived at noon and left at closing time 4 pm. Yes, you will need at least 4 hours to truly experience and appreciate all this place has to offer. We had the pleasure of meeting an employee named Carol and her knowledge, charisma and friendliness made our visit so much better! This place is fun for all ages, although the WWII footage and short film might be too graphic for the little ones. Overall, a great place to learn about Minnesota history and its people.

Today was one of the free days. I work at a group home and brought one of the individuals today. He had a blast today. Very interesting to him and it wasn't at a level that was too hard so he didn't understand. There were hands on things to keep people of all ages and mental capabilities engaged. They had the band playing today as well. The view from outside is amazing as well... you can see the Capitol and downtown St. Paul. Definitely recommend going.

We had such a great time at the Minnesota History Center! My kids had an absolute blast — it was so engaging and interactive that we completely lost track of time. We ended up staying for hours and still didn’t get to see everything (we had to leave because the kids were “starving” 😂). There’s so much to learn here for all ages, and it’s presented in such a fun, hands-on way. We’ll definitely be back to explore more. Highly recommend!

Went on a Saturday afternoon and it didn’t feel too busy at all. Lots of space and room to explore. Had a great time exploring the Julia Child exhibit. Very well done and interactive. If you love Julia Child don’t miss it! The other exhibits are awesome as well! I’m always learning something new when I go there!

One of my favorite places in Minnesota. The Native American exhibits, and the I-35 bridge collapse exhibit are very moving. The military exhibits are also phenomenal, and so immersive for kids. The tornado simulator…. OMG. The list goes on. There are so many cool pieces of Minnesota history here, and interactive exhibits for kids.
Heather L — Google review
Inspiring space. Exhibits touch on key parts of the Minnesota experience. The Native American exhibits are thoughtfully put together. Kids have plenty of room and spaces to go. We enjoyed the short play about a Minnesota member of the Greatest generation. There was also a craft in an atrium. Thanks to all the volunteers.

This museum is great! I remember loving it as a kid and now that I live in Saint Paul I'm here a couple times a month. Every Thursday evening is FREE! They also have some cool free events like crafting, movies, talks, etc. There are a lot I'm interested in but I can't always make it 🥲 There is parking which is also free on Thursday evening. One downside is that they took out a nearby bridge which makes accessing the museum more difficult, but hopefully it will reopen!

The WWII Exhibit was very good and the Ojibwe Exhibit was excellent. Also the Tornado basement was good. Lots of children areas.

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The Cathedral of Saint Paul, also known as the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, is a magnificent beaux arts cathedral located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This grand church was built between 1904 and 1915 and boasts French-inspired architecture with a giant 23-meter wide copper dome and spire. Situated on an elevated hilltop, it offers stunning views of the downtown district.
The Cathedral of Saint Paul is the most magnificent cathedral that I have visited to date!! It is beyond breathtaking. We attended 7:30 AM Mass on a Monday morning, and we were in awe… We did not take advantage of the guided tour, but we did return to purchase items from the gift shop. If you’re hoping to join the guided tour, I encourage you to call or fill out the tour availability form online. Visiting Cathedral of Saint Paul is highly recommended for all!!

I only visited the Cathedral of Saint Paul once, but it left a big impression. The architecture is stunning — massive, detailed, and beautiful inside and out. Walking in, you immediately feel the history and sense of peace. Even if you’re not religious, it’s worth stopping by just to take in the design and the atmosphere. Definitely one of the most breathtaking landmarks in Saint Paul!
Kalli A — Google review
First important hint: the doors may look Like they are closed, just go ahead and push it. It may be due to the weather. That said, visiting the Cathedral of Saint Paul is rewarding experience, it warms your soul. Regardless of your religious point of view, just go and feel it, you won’t regret. It is a peaceful place full of art and details. Stained glasses, sculpture, history…and it is indescribable what you feel when someone is playing the pipe organ. It is powerful! Make sure you reserve enough time, if you like details like I do. It is also a great idea to bundle this with other places around like the Minnesota Capitol and WWII memorial. It is a pleasant walk between buildings, specially during the fall with its astonishing colors.

The weekend guard made an already awesome visit both informative and welcoming. Many thanks for keeping this wonderful treasure open most of the time -- its cousin St. Paul's in London charges 35 pounds sterling to visit! (and it's not that much bigger than ours, the third largest US cathedral and sixth largest church in the nation)

Best two hours of the trip! A true masterpiece and the crown jewel of St. Paul. The architecture is stunning on a grand scale, reminiscent of the great cathedrals in Europe. The interior is vast, peaceful, and filled with beautiful details, from the soaring dome to the intricate stained-glass windows. You don't have to be religious to be moved by the grandeur and history of this place. A must-visit when you're in the Twin Cities.
Terry H — Google review
Such a beautifuland breathtaking Cathedral filled with details and history everywhere. There is a small shop inside, there was a big mass the day of so it was full. And there's a timeline on the bottom.
Cindy R — Google review
The Cathedral of Saint Paul is nothing short of breathtaking. From the moment you approach it, the grand architecture captures your attention — and once inside, the soaring ceilings, intricate details, and stunning stained glass create an atmosphere of peace and reverence. During our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting one of the deacons, who was incredibly kind and welcoming. He took the time to greet us warmly, share a bit about the history of the cathedral, and made us feel truly at home. That personal touch made the visit all the more special. Whether you come for worship, reflection, or to admire the artistry of this historic building, the Cathedral is a must-see in Saint Paul. It’s a place where beauty, history, and genuine hospitality come together.
Ed — Google review
The Cathedral of St. Paul is magnificent — its architecture is breathtaking and filled with reverence. The dome, stained glass, and ornate details reflect extraordinary craftsmanship and devotion, creating a space that surrounds you with faith. The only drawback was the warmth inside on a hot day and difficulty hearing the priest from the back during Mass. The sermon was engaging, but we caught only about two-thirds of it. Even with those minor issues, this Cathedral is a sacred and awe-inspiring place well worth experiencing.

State government office
Sights & Landmarks
The Minnesota State Capitol, an architectural gem completed in 1905, stands proudly in St. Paul as a testament to the state's rich history and governance. Designed by the talented architect Cass Gilbert, this Beaux-Arts masterpiece is celebrated for its grand self-supported marble dome—the second largest of its kind globally—and intricate details that reflect Minnesota's natural beauty and heritage.
Stately, august, friendly, welcoming. Business and history mixed as the state House was in session during my visit and lots of tours were taking place (tour guide encouraging schoolchildren to now be a part of history by telling others what they learned). Sergeant at arms guarding the House chamber was kind, polite but firm in telling me what I could/couldn’t do as I approached the open chamber doors. The building was nicely renovated and has great touches to years past, including a museum exhibit on the 3rd floor telling the story of natives, and maintaining things like the interior swinging bathroom doors. I know more about the state than before. What a great welcome to Minnesota!
Steve B — Google review
I was really impressed by the Minnesota State Capitol — it's absolutely stunning inside and out! The marble dome is breathtaking. If you are here on a weekday- the interior is full of beautiful art, historic murals, and grand staircases. Do take a free guided tour, you might go up to the roof for an amazing view of the city. The building feels both historic and alive with politics. If you're in St. Paul, take an hour or two to visit. It's peaceful and photogenic!
Marta S — Google review
A very grand state capital with many floors of beautiful art and architecture. The dome is fantastic. If you take the tour you go up on the dome where the gold chariot is and have a view of St. Paul. The paintings in the Governors office are amazing. Free tour.

Did a free tour of the capitol while on vacation with my family. The history of the building is fascinating and our guide was very knowledgeable. The architecture is grandiose and stunning, and the views of downtown St. Paul from the rooftop are amazing. Definitely an hour well spent.

French restaurant
Meritage is a refined French bistro located in downtown Saint Paul, offering a taste of Paris with its elegant interior and sidewalk patio. The restaurant, run by Chef Russell Klein and his wife Desta Maree, presents a menu that combines classic French dishes with modern American cuisine using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
To those who have internal experience. This is an outstanding place to taste French food, oyster and dishes with an original touch. The oysters they recommended me were amazing. As well as the onion soup and the duck leg with crispy skin. I had an excellent Jack Rose crafted drink and a delicious and full bodied Bordeaux wine. This is a category I spot. Fully recommended. Service is world class.
Marco R — Google review
It took ~15-20 minutes for my server to acknowledge me after I was seated. I was comp’ed a scoop of salmon on a chip. I started the meal with lobster cocktail. Not what I expected. It came out as a chilled half tail split lengthwise, not really a lobster cocktail. The salad was a nice way to segue to the entree, lack of lamb. Good but there a scoop of something underneath that wasn’t explained to me. Finished the meal with a chocolate dessert. The highlight of the meal.
Mark K — Google review
Food was incredible and the staff was amazing. We sat outside, but unfortunately the bugs made it hard to fully enjoy what was otherwise a wonderful $300 meal for two. I’d suggest adding candles or other measures to help keep the insects away. We’ll definitely be back, but next time we’ll be asking for a table inside.

Delicious!! French vibe with a more relaxed atmosphere. Food was very flavorful and fresh! They were able to accommodate an onion allergy and very friendly about it! Service was excellent! We celebrate our anniversary and it was perfect. Loved everything about it! Highly recommend!

My family has been dining at this restaurant for years and we always have an excellent experience. The staff are always friendly, accommodating and check in frequently. The dishes are always exquisite and offer a different flavor profile each time. I especially enjoyed the selection of non alcoholic drinks on the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Pull up a chair at the bar! Grab some Dune Buggy oysters and finish with the French Onion Burger and a side of Béarnaise to dip your frites in. Wash all that down with a glass of Bordeaux rouge from the right bank. The service was amazing. JR is old school and a consummate pro. Never a dry glass nor a dirty hand. Hot towels at the ready and solid recommendations. Super rare these days. Marissa was also outstanding. Good conversation and bright smile. Nick the MOD popped by casually and shared a story and a thank you. Nothing like genuine care to round out a good meal. Great atmosphere, solid food, exemplary service. If you’re in the Twin Cities, pop by, you won’t be disappointed.
Edward M — Google review
We had been planning on visiting Meritage for a long time, with it being quite good from what we’ve heard. It certainly did not disappoint. We tried the tasting menu and all of the courses worked really well with the exception of just one. The service was excellent and on par or even better than the service we’ve experienced in quite a few Michelin Starred restaurants. The first 4 courses (in order with pictures, including foie gras ad-on being the fourth) were excellent. The 5th course, being a dish of quail was somewhat lacking compared to the previous excellent courses. The duck à l'orange as the 6th course was a great main course. The main desert was pretty good but again not as excellent as you would expect with the previous courses but the final bites ended the meal on a high note. In conclusion, Meritage is an excellent example of elevated bistro-style French cuisine and might be the best French restaurant in the Twin Cities.

Cafe
Cafe Latte is a versatile dining destination that offers three distinct experiences under one roof. The gourmet cafeteria serves up seasonal soups, salads, and customizable sandwiches. Meanwhile, the in-house bakery tempts visitors with freshly baked breads, cupcakes, tortes, and their specialty turtle cake. Additionally, the pizza wine bar presents an array of inventive pizzas and bruschetta alongside an extensive wine list. Nestled in St.
I only came here for the cake, which was divine! They have a variety of cakes to choose from. We had the Turtle and Chocolate Cake. The icing was sweet but not too sweet and the cake was rich and moist. They also have food options and a full coffee bar. It is cafeteria style ordering and took a second to orient to that process. You have to park on the street. I would go back for a slice of cake in a heartbeat.

Honestly I have been here for the past 8-9 years including during the pandemic so I don't know why I have not given it a review yet, but suffice it to say that for someone like me who doesn't even really eat cake, I will come here specifically for cake. That's how good they are. Before and after the pandemic, their cake quality has stayed consistent. They also publish on their website what cakes they have everyday in addition to the 9 types that are available everyday, so that those that really enjoy a special item can plan ahead. I took photos of some of the items that I have traditionally ordered the most, both before and after the pandemic, but I would also recommend the classic vanilla cheesecake and the turtle cake, which are not pictured. In addition to cake, their hot food is also pretty good, with various options of soup and bread available for a reasonable price and pizzas baked fresh next door near the register where one would order or pick up whole cakes. Prices have increased over the years and for some reason the pizza doesn't taste as fresh (both the basil and the mozzarella), and looks a bit smaller, which might be my illusion. That doesn't change the fact that this establishment is worth a 5 in my book, though. Whenever I have friends visiting from out of town and wants to try cake, this would be the first place I bring them to.
Jay S — Google review
The chicken dumpling soup was delicious as well as the smoked turkey sandwich. The German chocolate cake was a bit too sweet for me but overall good. The service was outstanding, shout-out to the girl serving the soup who gave me the soup recommendation :)

A friend brought me here and I'm glad she did. I had a salad, choosing the 3 different salad plate. They were all delicious, so much so that I wouldn't be able to come back and just chose one 😊. My friend also bought a mango tres leches cake to share, it was delicious. I liked the atmosphere, however there was a man, in the cafeteria side, at the back asking the window, that was on a call and he was loud. We avoided sitting in this area due to that. It did not look like he worked there, nonetheless I can't imagine it was comfortable for anyone sitting on that side of the cafe. I live quite a distance from here so I would only come back when I'm in the area.

This place could be the sole reason I ever go to St. Paul. The dessert’s, coffee, and vibes are unmatched. If I lived any closer I would probably become obese. So awesome.

Visiting yesterday, I saw they were celebrating 40 years and I think I've been coming here about that long. I left Minnesota a while ago, but whenever I come back, this is often the first place I go. In an era of chains and copycat restaurants, I find this place truly unique and really appreciate that. The quality of food, I think, is also exceptional. I always look forward to my bowl of chili and a takeaway slice of turtle cake for later on. Thanks to the owners who started this and kept this going for the last 40 and all the best for the next 40 to come.

Restaurant
Nestled within The Saint Paul Hotel, The St. Paul Grill has been a beloved dining destination since its establishment in 1990. This classic American restaurant is celebrated for its exquisite steaks, chops, and seafood dishes, all served with impeccable service that enhances the fine dining experience. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the historic Rice Park while indulging in culinary delights like lobster bake appetizers and succulent pork chops paired with unique jalapeno-mint jelly.
Loved our experience here! We sat at the bar and had a great time. Bartenders were amazing (shout out Wes!). Food and drinks were great. I originally ordered a vodka martini and the bartender jokingly gave me grief for it, turned into a fun adventure of trying amazing gin drinks. It’s fun to go somewhere and have a bartender surprise you with a drink (especially when they turn out amazing). We had the Ahi Tuna and the Blackened Beef. Both A+ great apps.
Stefanie J — Google review
The liquor selection at the Saint Paul is simply unsurpassed. For fun we tried to think of a bottle that they didn't have, without success. Prices are what you may expect from an upper echelon establishment. The bartenders are masters of their trade and are cognizant of their surroundings at all times. Don't have to worry about getting their attention when your drink runs low. Our drinks were great and the waitress was phenomenal. She basically ran her entire shift, but she was compensated well. Surprisingly, the best of the food were the onion rings. Crazy large and delicious, the best any of our group had ever tasted.

We were visiting for a work trip and had our team dinner here (reservation). What an amazing experience, to say the least. They have top tier staff - our server (of 38 years) was personable, kind, and very knowledgeable. I ordered the onion rings (hand battered, rich goldness), medium well pork chops, and asparagus. Although I have sparse history at such a level of establishment, the pork chops were transcendent - the flavor of the glaze melded with the apple relish and walnuts was written for this tender, locally farmed double bone chop: it had the perfect level of fat and final resting time. "Compliments to the Chef" doesn't come close to portraying this experience...so instead, that first bite view was likely worth a thousand words. Thank you to all.

We had a great experience here. We had a big group of 15+ (we made a reservation) and the night went very smoothly. The staff members were friendly and attentive, and the food was all delicious and came out pretty quickly. I would recommend the French onion soup!

Ordered the Fish and Chips for lunch; house-made summit EPA beer battered walleye with side of tartar sauce and Idaho potato fries and a side of coleslaw. Massive portion alert! The fish was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The chips (fries) were equally as crispy. The tartar sauce was spicy but not over bearing. Delicious overall and recommend. Service was great and the Hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Enjoyed a nice team dinner when in town for work. Ordered from a predetermined menu for larger groups that had great options. Every course was delicious and service was great. The room held three large tables and it did get a little loud and difficult to hold conversation. Overall great dining experience, however.

Absolutely the best. This place sets the standard. Mind you, they demand a price for being that, but it is one of the few establishments we have found that deserves that price. From our server, Ben, the kitchen, all of the rest of the staff the meal was wonderful! Then we had a couple drinks at the bar afterward, our bartenders Jake and James, equally great. Drinks were best we've found in Saint Paul, they know how to make the classics, and have a wild selection of spirits. This is a must go place. Bar also has seperate menu, if you aren't in for the whole steakhouse dinner. Thank you!

I had lunch there yesterday with a busload of folks after a city tour. Both food and service were outstanding. The chicken was served juicy and fresh from the grill and fries were hot and crisp. The waitstaff were so pleasant and efficient. Can't wait to go back!

Mexican restaurant
El Burrito Mercado is a Mexican market and cafe that offers classic Mexican dishes such as tacos, enchiladas, and tamales in a cafeteria-style setting. In addition to the express lunch counter, there is also a festive full-service dining room where unique menu items are available. The dining room features dishes like Cochinita Pibil and Chicken Mole Poblano, both under $15.
Had a great time out to dinner. We will definitely be back again soon. Thank you for the awesome food and wonderful hospitality. All the right spices and flavors you will be looking for at an affordable price and your belly is full and happy.

A real gem nestled in a vibrant and bustling neighborhood. When I moved to Minnesota, this was one of the first places I tried, and I was blown away by its large grocery selection, charm, and great food. I haven’t been back in over 10 years, since it’s not too close to me, but I decided to go back this weekend. It didn’t disappoint! I’d highly recommend checking out Raspberry Island’s Alebrijes exhibit (June-October 2025), and then heading here for lunch and a few groceries. The patio is definitely to place to sit. They also have an elote stand out back! I enjoyed my coffee and burrito, and I left the restaurant feeling full and with my arms full of groceries.

Always very good! My husband and I love shopping here. The to go food is hot and delicious. I love the shrimp burrito, the rice, and queso. Their chips are also very tasty. Came in for breakfast on a Sunday too and had a delicious breakfast burrito with rice and beans. The green salsa is delicious, has a bit of heat, but not too spicy for this Minnesotan. My husband had the breakfast torta and liked it, but said he would try something else next time.

we came in through the grocery store. the people up front were a little rude but it’s understandable because we didn’t know where we were going. very good food, incredible patio— can’t wait to try it again. the guacamole was to DIE for

Amazing staff, friendly and helpful! It's hard to go through this place without a guide (if you're not familiar with Mexican fare) but the team here are patient and friendly! I bought churros, choco flan and chicharron! There's so many more to explore that I'm saving for the next trip. Certainly worth a try and you can relax at the bar after shopping!

We got an order of Flauta Dippers from El Burrito Mercado at the Minnesota State Fair last week. They were perfect for walking around—crispy and full of flavor. The only downside was that they could have been a little larger for the price.

Restaurant
Myriel is a charming restaurant known for its cozy ambiance and seasonal menu. The restaurant offers both tasting menus and à la carte options, with a daily-changing menu featuring locally-foraged produce and whole-animal butchery. The chef's sparse, Nordic sensibilities are evident in the dishes, such as crispy duck breast with tangy sauce or spicy lamb sausage on tender white beans.
The restaurant seemed quite backed up so wait times were longer than expected but the service was extremely apologetic, friendly and accomodating which more than made up for it. Most other restaurants, in my experience, would have apologized for the longer times and moved on. The staff at Myriel went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. The atmosphere feels classy and cozy. Dined at 7 so the restaurant was full up. There was moderate noise but you can easily still hear anyone speaking. The food was delicious. The duck breast in particular was amazing. Portions are relatively small but the dishes were also quite rich so they filled my appetite quite nicely.

This was definitely elevated. To me the cuisine was Germanic. Honestly, most Germanic restaurants to me are piles of what we Minnesotan’s call hot dish. Not the case here. I would go back for the duck breast 10 out of 10 times. It was amazing! The Manhattan they made me was shaken, not stirred and if you know anything about Manhattans if you ever had a bad one, it was shaken. That said, at least it wasn’t a “microtini!” BUT, everything else was unique. The gnocchi was made in an unusual way, not with potatoes but rye flour, the best I have ever had! You should try this place.

While waiting by the bathroom door, I started chatting with two of the waiters. Before I knew it, they handed me a glass to help test a bottle of wine for another table…just to make sure it wasn’t spoiled. That small, funny moment captures the spirit of this restaurant. Warm, personal, and full of genuine hospitality.

Beautifully designed for its small footprint. The dishes were incredible, so thoughtfully constructed and well balanced. The buttermilk on the sauteed greens was genius! Highly recommended and can't wait to have a reason to go back. Our only tiny criticism is that our server specifically seemed rushed - to be fair the dining room was full - and she asked us how our food was before we'd even swallowed the first bite. Everything else about the experience was so polished and pleasing (the mismatched 'your Swedish grandma's'-style silverware was a delight!) that tiny service flaws stick out. Overall excellent meal!

This has to be the cutest little restaurant in all of St. Paul, tiny, but they make it work and I figure they can fit a fair amount of people in. Who cares about that right... get to the good stuff! I have come to expect that the service at a fine dining restaurant should match the food, if not exceed it; getting the whole experience, if you will. Myriel is firing on ALL CYLINDERS. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by friend staff - this trend continued through the entire meal; our server was passionate about their restaurant, their food and its sourcing, the ever changing menu because of the (fresh and local) sourcing, as well as it being our first time and making sure we tried everything we wanted plus some. He explained the menu in detail, he took a complete order and coursed it out for us, brought us little sips for various reasons when wines were being discussed. I cannot speaking highly enough of the service. On to the food: I'm speechless. I did add a photo of the menu from the night we went, but please note it does change often, sometimes daily based on the product they have available. I don't think we tried anything where we said 'that was just alright'; the cutest little bites jam packed with flavor (see: Swedish Corn Waffle), the gnocchi has to be the softest pillow of food I've ever put in my mouth - paired with the chantrelle conserva - was such an amazing bite. I had to have a confit duck leg somewhere during the night and the server opted to bring that on its own plate along side of the oyster mushrooms - mostly so I could have it on its own, but also so I could try it with the mushrooms as that is what originally called out to me. YUM - just yum! My husband opted for the Fresh Red Lake Walleye, which is rare to find MN walleye anywhere, but it was wonderful! I opted for the Duck Breast as I was on a duck journey that night (Duck liver pate on the charcuterie plate) - I will say duck breast is nothing something I eaten often, but I'm really glad I ordered it, the skin was crispy, the flavor was intense and it was cooked to perfection. Last but not least was the rhubarb pie (a family recipe) and swedish egg coffee - the perfect end to a perfect night. I should also mention the drinks were all wonderful as well! I cannot wait to go back to Myriel - this will most certainly become a regular spot on our rotation!

Myriel is a fun experience. A rotating seasonal menu mixes things up and provides a good excuse to come back. Overall, the service I received from everyone was top notch. Between host, server, etc., everybody was friendly and accommodating. The food was great. Started the chilled asparagus soup. Moved onto the Swedish corn waffle. And then Lake Trout for the main. Had to finish it all off woth some rhubarb pie. I enjoyed it all but I have to admit the lake trout was a tad disappointing. Felt like there would be more to it. It was solid but I think another accompiment might really compliment the fish. Amazing wine and digestif selection.

My partner has been wanting to try Myriel since it opened, and we finally popped in for an a la carte experience last night to celebrate his birthday. We are always on the hunt for fine dining experiences that highlight and celebrate vegetarian cuisine, and we had heard that Myriel was a welcoming place for vegetarians. From the moment we stepped into Myriel we felt valued and taken care of. Our server, Dan, was attentive, funny, and knowledgeable. He took time to provide context about the nuances of each dish, as well as the ethos and values of Myriel as a whole. The restaurant was buzzing with energy the whole time we were there, and we loved the earthy decor and intimate seating. Everyone seemed so happy to be there. Everything we ate and drank was a delight to the senses and our palettes. The lavender lemonade was tart and herbaceous. The chilled tomato soup was savory, bright, fresh, and so satisfying. The corn salad took my breath away. I could’ve eaten a quart of it. We loved eating the lentils, pasta, and rustic bread together as one course. They really complemented one another. We appreciated the attention to detail throughout the meal— in terms of presentation, flavor, and construction. The portions are small because each dish is meant to be savored. Each bite is a treat. Thanks for a great experience! Update— We returned today to celebrate a birthday with the vegetarian tasting menu! A triumph— even better than our first experience. I’m adding more photos from tonight…

Book ahead for a special occasion. The menu is small and changes monthly. Chef is a true artist and each dish is amazing. We enjoyed the lamb and duck, both prepared to perfection.
