Celestun

Celestún, a fishing village on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, is home to secluded beaches backed by thatched-roof restaurants. It’s a gateway to the Celestún Biosphere Reserve, which has large flocks of flamingos, plus birds like herons and pelicans. Farther northeast is El Palmar State Reserve, with migratory birds such as Canada geese. South of Celestún is the town of Real de Salinas, a former salt-production center.

Restaurant
Los Pampanos is a popular restaurant located in the Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve, Mexico. It offers a variety of delicious Mexican and seafood dishes. The restaurant is well-regarded for its clean and tasty food, making it a nice spot to enjoy some seafood. With its prime location in Celestun, it's among the top dining options in the area. Visitors can expect a pleasant dining experience at Los Pampanos while exploring the beautiful surroundings of Celestun.
We went for lunch and then we booked a table for an early dinner at sunset. The setting on the beach was superb as was the food. It was the first time I have had stone crab and it was the best crab I have ever had. The grilled hogfish was great too, as was my wife's coconut ice cream. Our waiter was Gerry who was charming, helpful and efficient. He also played some guitar and took pictures at sunset.

Great food, good atmosphere (tables available right on the beach- beautiful at sunset or inside). Our waiter (Enrique?) was so nice, went above and beyond, genuinely cared- made it an enjoyable experience.

We had a very nice early dinner. Good, attentive and friendly service and good fresh seafood. Being on the beach or under roof is available. We've enjoyed our dinner!

Food was great! Service as well! Good fish restaurant ln the sea. Enjoy a glass of wine and good food with ocean view
Valentina B — Google review
The food was good, the service given the amount of people fine, but the amount of flies on the food is simply unacceptable. The second we left the food unattended, it was covered with flies. I had to take out flies from my cocktail 2 times.

Nice place on the beach. We had a lunch at the restsurant. All sea food are fresh and delicious. Staff is kind and helpful.

This place is a gem! I’m still dreaming about my meal at Los Pampanos. Facing the sea, super relaxed and refreshing atmosphere. We went their after seeing the flamingos and mangroves. Their food was top notch. I really loved their guacamole, it was made fresh. Overall a great experience.

People seem to really love this place and we really enjoyed it even though we didn't think it was that awesome. Service was lacking while we were there, it was sometimes awesome and sometimes we would sit there for a while before they would serve us. You can definitely sit at the restaurant and go in the ocean and come back and eat and such, some people were doing that. The restaurant extends into the beach area and quite close. The food was good but a little pricey. Seemed like the food served was very fresh but it's hard to know. Portions were bigger than other places so come hungry. None of the other places seemed as welcoming or as nice so you definitely get what you pay for.

Seafood restaurant
La Palapa Restaurante & Snack Bar is a must-visit dining spot in the charming village of Celestun, located on the stunning Yucatan Peninsula. Known for its delightful tacos and diverse menu options, this eatery offers a perfect blend of local flavors and fresh ingredients. Nestled near beautiful beaches and vibrant wildlife, La Palapa provides an inviting atmosphere where guests can enjoy delicious meals while soaking in the picturesque surroundings.
I was genuinely surprised by this place. I was expecting sub par overpriced food but it was all delicious. The beer battered fish tacos were amazing and they had this one habanero sauce that was the best I've had. Overall really good, with decent service

Nice restaurant with beautiful view. The dishes are well presented with nice taste. The view is incredible, with a beach view. The only inconvenient is the Flys that are a bit everywhere and in numbers... nit very great. Hope you guys can resolve that.

Went here for a birthday lunch and loved it! The lobster carpaccio and blue crab ceviche were amazing, and the view overlooking the beach was perfect. The staff were attentive and friendly. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on lounge chairs with smoothies—highly recommend this place!

Beautiful beach restaurant 10 meters from the sea, we had our lunch and enjoyed the day here. Friendly staff and good service with moderate prices and live music. Definitely we will return. Recommend! 😋

**La Palapa in Celestún 🌮🐝** La Palapa is one of the few dining options in Celestún, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. 😕 We were asked for a minimum fee just to take a seat, which felt rather exclusionary and a bit off-putting. We tried the *Taco Baja*, which had great flavor and featured hand-made tortillas—a nice touch. However, the overall experience didn’t justify the price. 🥺 A significant downside was the abundance of flies and dragonflies, making it nearly impossible to enjoy our meal. 🐝🍽️ My advice? Enjoy the flamingo tour, grab a taco at La Palapa, and then head to the public beach to relax. 🦩🌊 It’s a better way to spend your time in Celestún.

Great beach views, fabulous food and excellent service!

I ordered the octopus which I really enjoyed. It’s a seafood restaurant and everyone else’s dishes looked good too. Although the food was good, the atmosphere and view of the sunset was what really makes it an enjoyable evening. It should be noted that they do close early, around 6.30.

We came to the explore the beach and decided to have a lunch. We dropped in to this restaurant just because it was right on the beach and had decent reviews. We took a table with ocean view. No one told us any conditions on how much to order or how long we could occupy the table. The waiter came shortly and brought the menu. We ordered an octopus and shrimps, also chaya drink. The food arrived shortly. The food was fresh and tasty. The portion was not huge, but sufficient. I lacked some salad in the side to my octopus but otherwise it tasted well. The drink was fine. We paid around 550 pesos for everything. The price might seem a bit too high, but overall the atmosphere in the place was very pleasant: great view, comfortable furniture, tasty fresh food, live music. I truly enjoyed the place. The service was fast and polite. The place had tables both inside and outside. A decent and clean toilet was also available. Overall positive experience.

Seafood restaurant
Restaurante La Playita is a hidden gem that pleasantly surprised diners despite initial hesitations. Nestled by the beach, it offers a delightful array of seafood dishes, including mouthwatering shrimp and octopus that have garnered rave reviews. The friendly service enhances the experience, making guests feel welcomed and at ease. With its picturesque location right at the water's edge, visitors can enjoy their meals under umbrellas while soaking in stunning views of the sea.
I can't give this place a high enough review! We stayed in Celestun for three weeks and tried as many restaurants as possible; we came back here several times. Pulpo frito ceviche and pescado frito pictured, plus some cold beers, on the beach, at sunset...
Ex-Pat — Google review
“Service without a smile“ should be their motto. Not rude but not friendly service, at all. It is almost as its such a chore to have to serve you and these were the OWNERS!!!! Good views, as you can see from the pictures. Food is not great, I had the garlic octopus “full meal” which wasn’t really that much. The tortillas were super cold, probably from this morning. Beer Sol at 40 pesos? Insane. I would recommend this place only for the view, lacking taste, service and good prices. 👎🏼

I got grilled fish. Unfortunately they added ham all over the fish which wasn’t mentioned in the menu. I don’t consume ham or pork. Since we were in a rush, I just removed the ham & ate the fish. Good setting & good food. Fish was pretty delicious. I’d recommend the place inspire of my unlucky experience.

Nice view, good prices and fantastic flavor. The seafood soup is brilliant. A bit on the rustic side.

Right on the beach, we had quick service as we were they only ones there. Good prices too.
Marie P — Google review
Great menu and variety of food, the breaded calamari was disappointing but others liked their food. Service was awesome and the location and facilities are great, they even have showers . We paid 300 pesos to sit under an umbrella right at the waters edge, it was worth it. Go early, before 1pm on the weekends , and avoid the crowds.

Nestled in the charming town of Celestun, Mexico, El Lobo is a delightful restaurant that serves up a diverse array of Mexican dishes and homemade pizzas. With its inviting outdoor atmosphere and attentive service, it’s an ideal spot for those seeking a pleasant dining experience. The friendly staff ensures you feel right at home while enjoying your meal. Known for its cold beers and cozy rooftop seating overlooking the plaza, El Lobo is perfect for breakfast or dinner—though lunch isn't on the menu here.
Get off the beach and get on the square, or plaza if you like. Serving breakfast and dinner only, as no lunch or midday option is available, El Lobo is a treat. Sot upstairs on the rooftop over looking the plaza and take a little time out, watching the town do its thing. Its both pleasant and rewarding, the food is decent, no Michelin stars, but it will do the job no worries. The staff is warm and friendly, serving up your offerings with a smile. The atmosphere and ambience will work its local charm. I like it.

There aren't a lot of place open at night during the week so we went to el Lobo on the main place of the city. The menu is quite simple (pasta / pizza or hamburger). It is not the best food you will have in Mexico but it is ok to spend a diner overseeing the activity of the city. The service was good too.

I had an underwhelming Mexican eggs with coffee there. The owner is nice, but the food and the coffee just wasn’t great, walked away hungry and dissatisfied. Maybe it’s a good place, but not for breakfast. Coffee comes WITH sugar, you need to point out if you want it WITHOUT when you order.

Went there on a Sunday right at 7pm. Service was amazing - attentive, helpful and very friendly. Out of the 3 restaurants I've been to in Celestun my friend and I definitely liked this one the most. The food came fast and was delicious (pizza mexicana and bananasplit / brownie for dessert). The atmosphere was nice, the view from the terrace at evening was amazing and a great place to enjoy the nightlife.

Hit or miss, love and hate... price is great for the food they dish out. Servings are big. However the service is lacking, the waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there both days we ate there. The first day the food came out quickly, the second day it took 30 minutes for it to come out.

So far have eaten Hawaiian Burger, which was tasty, Tacos with aranchera, bacon, cheese which are fantastic. my wife ate the bbq pizza and some pasta and said she loved both of them .

Great, cosy place. We had breakfast here and it was delicious. The place is run by a young Duch man, who speaks good English so it is very welcoming to travelers. It is clean and the prices are affordable. Would recommend.

We had a great breakfast at this charming little place this morning. The staff was very welcoming. The coffee was good and the portion sizes were generous. We will likely eat here again before leaving town.
