Castle
The Castillo de Guzman el Bueno is a legendary site that embodies valor and sacrifice. Visitors can spend about 2 hours exploring the well-signposted fortress, with information available in both English and Spanish. The ticket booth staff are helpful, and advance tickets may be necessary during peak season. Families can enjoy a sunny day learning history while taking in great views of the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Tarifa city.
Old castle in quite good condition with beautiful views on the city and port. Ticket only 4 €.

A solutely amazing must be the world's first TARDIS: much bigger on the inside Truly worth a visit about 2 hours if you meander take in the views from each vantage point

We visited this castle in Tarifa. It is located right next to the ferry port. There are lots to see in this historic place. We spent a little over an hour in the castle. It has great views of the sea and the city. There is an entrance fee. Pensioners and students have a discounted fee. The walk around the castle was relatively easy. There were a few narrow stairs to get to the upper levels and the towers. It is well maintained. All the public areas are clearly marked. It is well worth a visit.

An excellent fortification steeped in history, well worth visiting and for a miniscule fee, €3. Some very good exhibits and wonderful views of Africa and the Straits of Gibraltar. This impressive, solidly-built Moorish fortification, which played an important part in early Spanish history, has been restored. As the southern-most point of the peninsula, Tarifa was an important strategic entry point into Spain and the rest of Europe for would-be invaders, so good defensive structures were essential. The Castle of Guzman El Bueno was originally built as an alcazar (Moorish fortress) in 960 AD on the orders of Caliph Abderraman III of Cordoba, to protect Tarifa against raids from Africa and the North (Vikings). The castle is now named after Alonso Perez de Guzman, who famously defending it from the Marinids (Moors) in the siege of 1294, when he sacrificed his son's life to save the town, and was given the title Duke of Medina Sidonia by the King (and named El Bueno, which means the Righteous rather than the Good) as a reward. Afterwards it was used as a garrison for Spanish troops over many centuries. Tarifa is the southernmost place in mainland Europe, next stop Africa. Located at the end of the Iberian Peninsula, it is primarily known as one of the world's most popular destinations for wind sports. Tarifa lies on the Costa de la Luz and across the Strait of Gibraltar facing Morocco.

Well curated medieval fortress with a mix of architectural and artifact information, the Castillo de Guzman el Bueno is historical gem and such a deal for the €4 admission fee. The views of the city from the walls only add to the magic.

Great family experience in a sunny day in Tarifa. Our kids had the chance to learn a little bit of history while having fun at the same time. We were surprised when we got to the ticket booth that it was free because of the time we went. Great view of the Atlantic, Mediterranean and the city of Tarifa.
X K — Google review
Quite worth a visit on a clear day. You are let through the castle on a one-way tour with nice views on Tarifa and Africa. Some parts of the exhibition were a little dated and some of the modern ones like screens weren't working, but overall quite a lot to see for 4 €.
Ste B — Google review
Absolutely fascinating history and looking out on to the the town while taking in the history and it's settings really changed my view and gave me a whole different understanding of the beautiful town as I was looking out from the views of the beautiful town from inside the Castillo. It's one thing to walk around the court yard and Almedina, but it's completely different once you can view it from above and appreciate it's position and function as part of the fortress.

Isla de Las Palomas is a small island connected to Tarifa by a causeway, offering a unique blend of history and leisure. The island features old military installations and a small beach where visitors can relax on sunbeds and umbrellas. It also offers water sports, live music at sunset, tiki cocktails, and wellness services.

Important to note ..you have to book through Tourist Office to find out schedule. It's an interesting visit especially if you are into all things military but you don't really get up close to any of the buildings.

It's a beautiful place between two Oceans (the Mediterranean and the Atlantic). There's a good view, and you can see kitesurfers making magic in the sea and wind. The only thing that was a bit of a disappointment for us was that the island was closed to visitors. You could just cross to there, but you couldn't enter…

Catholic church
Parish
The Iglesia de San Mateo Apóstol, located in the heart of Tarifa's old town, is a historic Catholic church with a rich past. Built in the 16th century on the site of an ancient mosque, it boasts an impressive Baroque facade added in the late 1770s. Inside, visitors can admire treasures such as a tombstone from the Visigothic era and cedarwood sculptures by a renowned 17th-century artist known as 'The God of Wood.'
I was definitely impressed to find this masterpiece at the end of the world

Very old and crude church full of memories. Open most of the time.
Mariusz — Google review
It definitely is NOT open 24 hours. I went on Sunday at 12:25 and found that a Mass was happening. I tried to come back at 1:45pm only to find the doors closed and locked. A paper inside the church indicates the hours of Mass, but nothing tells you when the building in open for tourists.

A very pleasant and welcoming cathedral in the center of the old town of Tarifa. Quiet, cool in summer (which was very comfortable) The originally decorated ceiling surprised me with interweaving of patterns. Come here early in the morning if you want to catch it like in the photo. I hope it brings joy to the locals as well!

It is a lovely church with some beautiful stain glass windows and rather minimalistic for catholic iglesia interior. Its shabby chic outdoor look is charming and adds to the old town’s main street atmosphere

Monument
Puerta de Jerez is a Moorish-era city gate in Tarifa, Spain, featuring a stone archway and turreted towers. It also showcases a modern blue-and-gold Christ painting. The area around Puerta de Jerez is rich in history and culture, with notable landmarks such as the plaque commemorating victory over the Muslims in 1292 and the Iglesia San Francisco de Asis with its bougainvillea-covered facade.
Fun and dynamic. Inside are many shops and restaurants. Feels a bit like a film studio. Dogs allowed almost everywhere which is great
Rudolph M — Google review
Puerta de Jerez, the old main entrance to old town. Tarifa's oldtown is very welcoming with lots of cute shops, pastrie shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Also its many narrow streets makes it very charming. The 'Iglesia de san mateo apostol' is the perfect eye/photo-gem situated right in the middle of old town. Also if one continue walking through you reach the port of Tarifa with many more restaurants and bars where you can have a very good sight on the 22km away marocco coast.

Tapas bar
Pub
El Lola - Bar de Tapas y Flamenco is a cozy and popular spot in Tarifa, known for its intimate interior and spacious terrace where locals gather to enjoy classic tapas, wine, and live flamenco music.
Lola a must visit during your stay at Tarifa. It can be really busy, but its worth it. The atmosphere is fantastic. Service great! Good with kids. Food above standards. A good Rioja for 3 euro a glas, just perfect! Overal we enjoyed our last evening on the terrace. Take the tuna platter to share👌and the jamon croquetas👍
Plukker — Google review
I couldn't recommend El Lola more.. this was our most memorable meal during our 10 day trip to Spain. We had the spicy tuna tartar, goat cheese, chicken meatballs, and pistachio cream dessert. All were delicious but I'd travel back to Tarifa just to have the tuna tartar again. The meat was so fresh, not a fatty piece in it, and such a generous portion. On top of the food, the wine, service, and atmosphere as we sat outside were all top notch.
Michael H — Google review
Overhyped. After reading all good reviews we expected a really exceptional tapas and tuna. Croquettes were fine (good but nothing beyond that), same as tuna tartare. The Japanese BBQ tuna was disappointing - the sauce what too thick and the fish was served on some kind of sticky powder. Since we couldn't figure out what it was, we asked the waiter. He explained ot was flour with octopus ink. It was rather tasteless. sticky and unpleasant. Not my taste, but maybe someone else would like it.
Piotr Z — Google review
A very nice restaurant with delicious food and well-sized portions. The staff was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. However, it was quite crowded, and we ended up at a less comfortable table with bar stools and an uneven surface, which took away a bit from the dining experience. In my opinion, the prices are a little too high for what you actually get – still good, but not fully matching the cost.
AnotherPerspective — Google review
Great atmosphere, food good, we had various half plates, which were delicious and substantial, the calamari sliders were delish, as was the boquerones on toast, followed by the Iberian ‘Lagato’ which had the most amazing chargrilled flavor. Service was sketchy as they were sooo busy but everyone was very polite. They don’t take reservations, so get there between 7:30-8pm if you don’t want to queue for an hour or more. Very much worth a visit!
Dub — Google review
Good quality tapas and friendly staff. The best was the truffled egg tuna tartar, that was a standout. The tuna tataki was less memorable but good, as were the cuttlefish croquettes.
Petr V — Google review
5 stars — Waiting 90 minutes was absolutely worth it. The croquetas, the little hamburguesitas, and the revuelto de patata con jamón ibérico were all outstanding. Every bite felt special, full of flavor and made with care. Truly magical tapas worth the wait.

LOLA in Tarifa is an absolute must! The food is out of this world – from the house signature Frito Lola to the spicy tuna tartare (whaaaat a mezl 🤩) every bite is delicious. Tapas bar
Bar El Frances is a renowned establishment in Tarifa, known for its Andalusian classics with a modern twist. It's advisable to arrive early as they don't take reservations. The bar offers generous portions of dishes such as pigs cheeks in red wine sauce and spicy patatas bravas, which are said to be the best in Tarifa. Additionally, their tuna meatballs and rice with baby squid, prawns, and vegetables are highly recommended.
I loved the waiters here as they're fun and sassy, and it's different from other formal places. I knocked my glass of wine off the table and the waitress immediately told me no worries. She gave me another glass while she cleaned up. How nice was that! Food was good too and we enjoyed sharing them. It's a great night!

Bar El Francés was one of the highlights of our time in Tarifa. Yes, we had to wait a little to get a table (they don’t take reservations and there’s no phone or website), but trust me it’s 100% worth it. Everything we ordered was delicious, but the chicken couscous absolutely blew us away. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and totally unexpected from a tapas bar. Every dish was spot on. The vibe is relaxed, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the prices are more than fair for the quality. This place is a gem and we’ll definitely be back.

A wonderful spot with live music that creates a great atmosphere. The staff are extremely friendly and always happy to recommend what to drink. The food is absolutely first-class — everything we tried was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended for a relaxing evening out.

An absolute revelation. The cuisine dazzles with bold, mouth-watering flavours that linger memorably, ensuring you'll be plotting your return before the meal is through. Complemented by a staff that is both impeccably professional and delightfully engaging—particularly with younger diners—the experience is flawless. It stands as a pinnacle of family dining, compelling enough to warrant an immediate revisit. A must-try.
Joel M — Google review
They were very nice and let me sit at the bar since I was by myself. I ordered the tuna meatballs (20/10), tuna montadito (ahumado) (15/10) and the chocolate mousse (6/10). I’ll be back for the eggplant with tomato and cheese which looked amazing. Everyone was very nice even though the restaurant was packed and they were very busy but it took them a while to bring the check and take my order even though I was at the bar. The music was great and the service had a really friendly and welcoming vibe. Would definitely recommend and I’ll be back.
Josefina Z — Google review
If you are in Tarifa, there is no way you can miss this restaurant. Everything was amazing but if you want to taste something heavenly try the meat balls and the goat cheese mushrooms. We simply loved it and it worthed the wait.

Bar El Frances was one of our highlights in Tarifa. We sat at the bar and that was fine! Staff is very kind, quick and has attention for everyone. And then the best part… the food! The aubergine with goat cheese was so good, mouth watering… same for the Tuna and Squid. A place where you want to return every time when your in Tarifa!
Erik-Jan — Google review
Bar El Francés exudes positive energy. It's always packed, always buzzing, with that real Andaluz warmth. Tapas here are excellent (you must try their seared tuna sandwich, the way they prepare it with the garlic sauce is unmatched), and their specials (like stews) are the kind that take you home, real home cooking like my mom used to make. Staff are lovely, lively, joking, singing, and clearly loving what they do. It’s the kind of spot where you order a cold drink, relax with friends, and let the flavors and atmosphere do the rest. If you want pure southern Spain (loud, tasty, authentic) his is it. One of my top 10 in Tarifa. Intimate bar area, outdoor covered seating, and street side seating make for an vibrant experience.

Restaurante La Pescadería is a popular seafood restaurant located in the heart of Tarifa's old town. The restaurant offers a relaxed setting with shaded outdoor tables, making it an ideal spot to enjoy regional seafood plates and rice dishes. Their extensive menu features local almadraba tuna catches from the Strait of Gibraltar, pescado frito (fried fish), and arroces (rice-based dishes).
The food was very good. The fish and all the seafood was very fresh and well prepared. We were lucky with table, please book in advance. One of the best Catalan cream we had here.

Busy fish restaurant that serves good food which is reasonably priced. It’s located on the edge of town centre with plenty of outdoor seating. All dishes we ordered were very tasty and good size portions too. Great choice for anyone who is not sure what to order as menu is quite extensive, including Maroccan inspired dishes.

Everything at this restaurant is at least a 10/10. The service is very attentive, quick and super nice. The food is extraordinary. We went here twice in a row, tried different foods and are in fact sad that we have to leave and can‘t try every single dish on the menu.

Good andalusian fish restaurant. Can be a little hectic inside. My grilled seabass was nice, but could have been filleted better. Vegetables were top notch. Service was top, afterwards a cherry on the house. Generally recommended.

What a lovely place to eat, the staff was super friendly, and the food was to die for. We went twice in a 2 days trip, first day we got the tuna 4 ways and the octopus 🐙, but the second day it was the cherry on top 🍒 the pasta with clams and king prawns was amazing, but the croaker with aioli and squid ink rice is something that you MUST eat, is not the cheapest place but it is completely worth it. Is a place that we will go every time we visit Tarifa!

The restaurant is located in front of the port gate in a nice square. You can also step in from the oldtown. The waiters are kind ,helpful and attentive from the beggining till the end . Vegetarian restaurant
Chilimosa Comida Vegetariana y Vegana is a charming vegetarian restaurant located in Tarifa, Southern Spain. Started as a takeaway joint by Denny and Saira in 2005, it has now expanded to include a few cozy tables for dining in. The menu offers an extensive selection of global vegetarian dishes such as spinach and feta-stuffed pastry, Thai green curry, veggie soya burger, samosas, falafel, and vegetables with coconut milk.
Restaurante Chilimosa is a cute little restaurant that serves lovingly prepared food that is flavorful and delicious. I devoured the lasagna accompanied by a good salad. I also took a wrap to go, and a piece of carrot cake and an apple pastry. It's the best food I've had in Spain since arriving one week ago.

Small, lovingly decorated vegan & vegetarian restaurant A truly charming little place – thoughtfully and beautifully decorated with great attention to detail. The food was sensational – full of flavor, creative, and beautifully presented. A big plus: everything is vegan or vegetarian! We’ll definitely be coming back – it’s absolutely worth a visit. Little tip: try the soap in the restroom – it smells amazing! 😊

Lovely team, always friendly :) we had starters, main dish and a dessert. All vegan, all good. The onion pakora is better than in some Indian restaurants. Everything’s made with fresh and clean integrients. Absolute must visit as a vegan in Tarifa ✌🏻

Lovely restaurant but very small get there early for a table or you will have to wait. The bhajis are a must to try! 95% authentic. I think they need to add a bit more coriander, asofotedia ginger and garlic. With coriander seeds and ajwain and it would be 100% authentic. We ordered a burger which was nice but the bread roll was way too dry and would have tasted better on a brioche bun. The sextant kebab was delicious The vegan lasagne was that great. The carrot cake it lovely. I would have ordered the curry next time because it is cooked freshly in the kitchen.

We felt rather disappointed of our diner considering the outstanding prior reviews. Servers were nice but seemed a bit overwhelmed. After choosing our dishes, we were informed they lacked the ingredients to make the ones we chose (understandable but would have been nice to have been told when handing out menus). Food was all right but felt more like cafeteria type food with tasteless lettuce heaped with store bought dressing as side salad. At least prices were reasonable but we have eaten much nicer vegetarian fare for similar prices in other restaurants in Tarifa, with better service and more comfortable seating.

Café Azul is a bright eatery known for its plentiful sandwiches, crepes, and homestyle breakfast plates. It's a popular spot in Tarifa that specializes in breakfast and brunch until 3:00 pm. The café offers a wide variety of options including natural juices, milkshakes, crepes, bocadillos, and UFOs with traditional fillings. Owned by locals Pepe and Jorge, the café provides an Arabic ambiance on Tarifa's main street.
Very cosy Café with a nice menu and very tasty food. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is very friendly. Loved that they support artists by exhibiting their artworks on their walls. They also sell locally produced sauces, honey, and personalised clothing. Totally recommend this place.

I’m so serious when I say the Campesino omelette IS the best omelette in the world. Better than France. Better than anywhere, ever. If you come here, you must get this omelette. Cozy and warm venue with friendly staff. Tried the egg and bacon dish, and it tasted like expected (just average). Could have added more veggies and used better bread. It’s only a four star as I found the prices a bit high and the americano (coffee) was really not good.

I'd highly recommend ordering one of their freshly made crepes or the Don Enrique if you like salmon for breakfast. We'll definitely be back when we return to Tarifa!
