Very nice place :-) lecturers of history is super. But you need book in advance in tourist center. And spend some time , better plan 2h or 3h , even lecture is 1h only . By fact it Will be 2h of very interesting adventure.
Lovely place to visit if you are interested in historical Russian architecture and ethnography. Visited with my kids and they were really excited. The area is quite big and has various types of buildings to explore.
Save your precious time and money, almost 80% things are closed due to construction work. I still decided to go, really beautiful place. Can easily reach via Bus No. 7 (use 2GIS app for bus routes and timings).
This is a definite must go if you are in the town of Veliky Novgorod. This outdoor museum provides a pretty good flavour of how Russian houses and buildings in the countryside used to look like in the past. It was also a very pleasant surprise to find out that we could enter the buildings and poke around at the various recreated scenes. Only giving it a 4 stars because two thirds of the museum was closed for restoration when I visited
It's nice but there is not that much to see, if you go then also visit the cathedral and the lake near by
The outdoor wooden architecture museum presenting the village life in the past.

Very interesting to see old wooden Russian buildings, brought from different places in Russia, old wooden churches and expositions inside those old buildings.

Very nice, feels tranquil deep in my soul.
A small man's monastery. On the territory there is the St. George's Cathedral built in 1127. Inside the walls are partially restored. Still, many restoration works are needed. As such, there is no altar. In the Cathedral it is very cold and sunny, regardless of the season
Fantastic place. True part of history. This is the oldest church in Russia. Dating back 1119. So glad that it has been kept since. Was great to see.
Medieaval monastery with frescoes. Wonderful bishop and very friendly atmosphere.

The place is clean and quite cozy. The manager was nice and helpful though a bit quiet and not much talkative. They have a proper kitchen and light big common space. I would recommend it for backpackers cause the location is perfect for visiting all the basic attractions. Also there is a nice cafeteria around called "Kolobok" where a proper meal costs just $4.
The hostel is just across from the Novgorod Kremlin. There is a river between the two, but it is only 10 minutes walk. It is in a very quite neighbourhood. It would be much better if the dorm could be brighter.
Very clean and well located next to the river. There is no sound in the neighbourhood making it great to relax after a day of visiting the city (lake) . Depending on the recptionist talking english might be hard but nothing major. Would recommend :)
Nice clean hostel, close to town attraction. Good kitchen & parking area good to park my bike. Staff is helpful. Over all good place
I was the only guest there. The place was quiet and clean. Lovely staff as well. Location couldn't have been better - just a min's walk to the riverfront with the kremlin right across the river.
A very good hostel! The entrance locates at the back of the building
Cool and modern hostel with clean rooms and good service

(Translated by Google) Built in the Gothic style, the Vladychnaya Chamber is the only building of this style in Russia. Witnessing the most important historical events, the Vladyka Chamber remains one of the most mysterious monuments in Novgorod architecture today. In 2012, as a result of research and repair and restoration work, the monument was restored to a look extremely close to its original appearance. Its halls house the richest jewelry collection of the 5th-19th centuries. The most important object on display is John’s cell adjacent to the main hall, decorated with frescoes from the 15th century and paintings from the early 19th century. In general, the exhibition is quite interesting; you can use the services of a guide.

(Translated by Google) The Church of the Transfiguration on Ilyin Street was built in 1374 and, of course, is one of the pearls of Novgorod architecture. The predecessor was the wooden Church of the Savior. According to legend, in the 12th century a shrine was kept in it - the icon of the Sign of the Mother of God. The new stone church, built with the money of residents on Ilinaya Street, was extremely revered in Novgorod. A distinctive feature of the Church of the Savior is the abundance of decorative elements. The church is famous not only for its beauty, it is the custodian of a unique fresco ensemble. Frescoes made by Theophanes the Greek, an outstanding Byzantine artist of the 14th century, have been preserved here. His works were preserved only in Russia, which became his second homeland. Icons by Theophanes the Greek can be seen in the Annunciation Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin and in the Tretyakov Gallery. The Church of the Savior is the only temple in the world that has preserved his monumental paintings. These frescoes are very different from anything I have seen before. They do not have that touching goodness of the saints, which can most often be seen on their faces. On the contrary, the frescoes are distinguished by their pronounced severity and gloom, and forcefully attack the human race for their sins. An angry, menacing look pours out instead of a joyful embrace and condemns us. You will feel neither pity nor forgiveness, only the inevitable condemnation of a sinful earthly life. Very much.

Modern bells hang in the spans of the belfry, and bronze bells from the 17th century rest on pedestals at the base. The largest, “festive”, was cast in 1659 and weighs 26.5 tons. In the summer, you can go up to the observation deck (battle passage), which offers a magnificent view of the Trade Side of Veliky Novgorod.

(Translated by Google) The belfry of the St. Sophia Cathedral is a cultural heritage site. The first mention was in 1437 (collapse into the Volkhov River due to a flood). There is a legend that when Ivan the Terrible was crossing the bridge over the river, the bell ringer rang the bells so hard that he frightened the king's horse, which reared up and threw the king off. For this, all the ears of the bell were cut off, leaving only the middle one. It was severely damaged during the Great Patriotic War. During the evacuation of the bells during the bombing, the barge with the three largest bells was smashed by a direct hit. The bells sank to the bottom of the river. Restored in 2007-2009. We visited the belfry at the end of June 2020; no excursions were conducted. A visit to the belfry, a climb to the observation deck and a walk along the Kremlin’s Battle Course - ticket 300 rubles. The ticket office also gives out a booklet with a map of the Kremlin and Dvorishche. There is a beautiful view of the Volkhov River, the inner part of the Kremlin and Yaroslav's Dvorishche.
(Translated by Google) The construction of the belfry dates back to 1439 on the site of an older one that was damaged by a flood. In the 1530-1540s, due to the reconstruction of the wall, as well as the development of bell-casting technologies, which caused the appearance of new, much larger bells, the belfry was reconstructed. During this restructuring, the number of spans was increased to five, previously it had only three spans and the number of pillars, respectively, from four to six. In the middle of the 18th century, the upper part of the belfry of the St. Sophia Cathedral was rebuilt into its current form, including installing a dome on a cylindrical base in the center. During the Second World War, the building was damaged by an air bomb that hit the house next to the belfry. The belfry, restored in 1948, is now used for its intended purpose. There is an observation deck in the upper part, where there is also an exhibition “Ancient Bells of Veliky Novgorod”.

The origin of Russian Democracy. According to explanation, Novgorod people gathered alongside of the Nicholas Cathedral wall and discussed things. People who have the highest voice won the discuss. They discussed policy and had had the right to elect Prince, Politicians, etc. They had a right to impeach, and Polticians had to 'serve' for the people. Interesting stories comparing with current Russian Politic. Russians are really proud of this history and they believe 'Coming together', 'Share and discuss idea', and even Communisitic idea came from this history. Interesting.
Great cathedral that works now like a museum, inside there are paintings, historical pictures and fresco paintings.
Some old wall is still visible.
Very very nice!!!

There is No English At All. Everything is Russian. But seeing the pictures, I can feel what they want to say. Novgorod was once Hanseatic hub in Moscow, and it was described as 'Window to Europe' at that time.(I am exchange student of Saint-Petersburg, and it was quite interesting to hear that). On the first floor, there are some ruins, things that are historical. We can see how they lived, what was the territory, and how they prospered. And there are ruins that say they were Hanseatic hub. Interesting. On the 2nd floor, we can see Icon(Икон). According to explanation, because Novgorod was not conquered by Mongolian invasion, there are lots of pieces made in since 11th century(?). And there is also some pieces that portrayed World War 2. For student, it is 180rubs on the board explanation. But they demaned 120rubs to me. I don't know why but maybe it was holiday(?)...

(Translated by Google) A good museum about the history of Novgorod. We took an audio guide, which seemed a little inconvenient, since we had to look for small numbers on the cards to select the desired audio track. It would probably be more convenient to select them by numbers on the exhibition itself. In some places there is interactivity, you can touch it and play the harp. I want this more (Original)

(Translated by Google) A very interesting museum. On the second floor there is a large exhibition of icons. But on weekdays (or I was just lucky) when there are very few visitors, the caretakers simply follow as much as possible and monitor every movement. I understand that this is their job, but I felt watched all the time (following me from room to room) and it’s annoying. There are cameras in all the halls and it’s normal to just sit quietly on your chair and keep an eye on visitors, but don’t jump up and watch every step and follow. Although she behaved very quietly and culturedly (she practically did not take photographs).

This composer is one of my favourite composers apart from Liszt, Chopin and Beethoven. When I look at Rachmaninoff, it makes me think of all the pieces he wrote, such as Italian Polka and Moment Musical no.4 in E minor. THANKS
Big monument of this russian composer, located inside the park, it has a giant bench where you can sit and take a picture.
This place is filled with people but that is the beauty of this place. surrounded by a beautiful park.
(Translated by Google) An unusual monument to one of the greatest Russian composers of the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. Located near the Sadko fountain in the Kremlin Park. It is not very clear what connects Sergei Vasilyevich specifically with Veliky Novgorod, other than the fact that he was born near Staraya Russa. It seems that only the first nine years of life on the territory of modern Nogorodshchina. The height of the monument is confusing. The sculptor depicted Rachmaninov as some kind of huge man, although in life he was not like that. I associate him with a talented pianist, the pride of Russia.
(Translated by Google) Well, I didn’t make it to the Sergei Rachmaninov festival held in Ivanovka, Tambov region in May, I was late for the plane. There is a museum-reserve in the composer's estate. And in Veliky Novgorod, a monument to Sergei Rachmaninoff was erected in 2009 because the birthplace of the great composer is the Semenovo estate, Novgorod province of the Russian Empire. However, there is a version that the place of birth is the Oneg estate, but this does not change the essence. Sergei's childhood is connected with the Novgorod land, here he listened to church singing, bells, and was baptized here. And it’s wonderful that a monument to S.V. appeared in the city center. Rachmaninov. В.

(Translated by Google) The beautiful monument to Rachmaninoff in Novgorod represents the great composer as a simple resident of Novgorod, leaning on a street bench and thinking about something. The height of the Rachmaninov sculpture is 3.6 meters, the base is 0.5 meters. The base itself is a platform with three steps on different sides. Most likely, three different staircases symbolize three directions in Rachmaninov’s life, namely as a person who reached heights, as a composer, pianist and conductor.
