Steaming, dormant volcano, known in ancient times as the home of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire.
Slide 1 of 8
The path is clised sometimes due to safety reasons. We were unfortunate and could not visit it.
The park itself seems to be closed. It was still possible to see the park and steam from far away but it was not possible to enter.
Scary but incredible that I was there Not to long ago .. it's an Incredible sight but deserves incredible respect such as that respect given to the Mount Vesuvio!! Nature is spectacular and lets us know we're very Small in comparison! GOD BLESS ALL OF NAPOLI ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF NAPOLI AND ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO LIVE NEAR THESE VOLCANOS
Great and a bit smelly experience :) We were unlucky cause it was closed due to some construction repairs.. If u find your self in such situation u can still have some of it...just follow the road another 50m uphill and you'll get the wiew from the photos. It is situated in a vulcano crater and you can see some sulfur steam activity inside... There are several vulcanos in the area nice for afternoon walks...
Still closed following the 2017 accident. However you can walk around the rim up a road to the left of the entrance marked on the map and get a good view over the caldera.
One can only speculate how much longer this volcano in the middle of a residential area is keeping quiet.
This is currently closed. You can look from the road.
This place is absolutely amazing, and I’ll never forget my visit in 2010. But it has been closed since 2017 due to a tragic accident. Supposedly you can look down into the crater from the surrounding hills but I don’t really think that is worth the trip. It will probably never reopen any time soon.

Roman amphitheater for 40,000 from the 1st century AD, with a well-preserved interior underground.
Slide 1 of 8
Forget the Colosseum - this Amphitheatre is marginally smaller (it's the 3rd largest of the empire) and is in an excellent state of preservation. There's extensive restoration works going on at the moment however by next season they should be complete. The access to the underground structures gives an excellent understanding of how this building worked and the engineering genius that went into building them. Best of all - no crowds!!!
One of Naples under stated and magnificent roman ruins, but very much worthy of a visit.
We came a mid of Oct. The underneath part was closed, with everything we were so excited to see. The internal galleries of the upper part and the museum were closed as well - due to security precautions as we were told. No data on Google Maps or anywhere on this. With the ticket price staying the full and a redicilous price for nearby parkings was not worth it. So take a step ahead before you go there, try to figure out what will be available. when you come.
Uniqe underground museum. Much better than the colosseum and less crowded.
I was walking randomly across Pozzuoli and, accidentally, came across this glorious amphitheatre surrounded by modern buildings. So I went in to visit it and got absolutely staggered
One of the greatest Amphitheatres, but with so many competing ancient Roman sights in the area it doesn't seem to get the number of visitors it deserves. That's your gain if you visit. On the surface the gladiatorial arena is well preserved, but it's underground that this amphitheatre really shines. Unusually you can visit the underground rooms and tunnels where they would have held the wild animals that would be lifted up into the arena, along with complex environmental stages, and of course where the gladiators prepared to fight and die. Watch the fight scenes in the movie Gladiator to get an idea of just how complex and dramatic these events would have been, and then wander through and up into the arena imagining how it must have been. It was free the day we visited because it was the first Sunday of the month, but even then there was only a handful of people there with us.
This site is currently being worked on and entrance is limited to the center of the amphitheater. You can't access the underground area, surrounding grounds, or seats. Entrance was free the day I was there. In spite of the limitations, it is an amazing experience to stand in an amphitheater. It is close to the metro station, perhaps 300m. Would definitely recommend seeing it if you are in the area.
An incredible journey into the past by walking in the footsteps of gladiators. The arena itself is well preserved and it features perhaps the most well-preserved underground area of any of the remaining arenas. Also unique is the 43-meter hole in the arena floor that would have been used to raise and lower stage sceneries during performances. If this arena were located in Rome, it would be swamped with visitors. But because it's in Pozzuoli, I nearly had the place to myself. A true "pinch me" moment. Note that the upper arena itself is not currently open to the public as of 4 Jan23. But it's still well worth the five euro admissions.

Volcanic crater lake surrounded by trails for walking & biking, plus waterfront restaurants.

A Fascinating Glimpse into Myth and History Lake Avernus is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, mythology, or just enjoying a beautiful natural setting. This crater lake, formed in a dormant volcano, was once believed to be the entrance to the underworld! What I loved: * The atmosphere: Even knowing the myths aren't true, there's a definite sense of mystery and ancient power here. It's incredibly peaceful and evocative. * Historical remnants: You can see ruins of temples and structures from the Roman era, adding another layer of interest. * Great for walking: The path around the lake is easy to follow and provides stunning views. Perfect for a leisurely stroll or a jog. * Nearby attractions: The Sibyl's Cave is a short distance away and worth exploring as well. Things to keep in mind: * Accessibility: While the main path is fairly level, some areas might be challenging for those with mobility issues. * Amenities: There are a few cafes and restaurants nearby, but it's not overly commercialized. * Seasonal changes: I visited in the spring and it was lovely, but I imagine it could get quite hot in summer. Overall, Lake Avernus is a unique and memorable place. It's a fascinating blend of natural beauty, history, and legend. Highly recommended!
Nice and peaceful walk around the lake. Plenty of birds, turtles and relaxed cats. There are the rests of the Romain Apoolo Temple. Really clean and enjoyable.
Ancient Greeks called Lago d’Averno the mouth of hell because passing birds were suffocated by the fumes. The lake was turned into part of a naval base by Cornelius Agrippa after he cut a canal. Emperor Nero furthered this by building a canal lined with colonnades. Ruins surround the lake, including the Temple of Apollo which is currently being renovated and is covered with no trespassing tape and remains of a dome building which is suspected to have been as big as the Roman Pantheon. If you gaze into the water, you can visibly see steps going down and leading somewhere… There is nothing marked on the trail about whether excavations are being done of the water or the nearby dome and Sibylline cave. A walk around the lake is tranquil. There are many agro tourism places open for lunch on weekends with prices ranging from €30-40 per person. Birds, ducks and turtles are the most popular creatures here. It may be worthwhile for the government to look into what is killing all of the fish in the lake as the stench is awful and one can only walk a few feet without being Greeted by stinky, belly up, rotting fish who have drifted toward the shore.
Great place for a run or family walk. Beautiful and even has some Roman ruins. Bring a bottle of wine and lounge in the grass or on a bench.
Lovely lake close to Pozzuoli, about 2 km around the lake. Partially shaded for 1/2 of the walk.
best place to relax and its free to enter. 24h open.

Roman archeological site in pozzuoli just in front of the water line. Though not maintained and no entrance allowed is a nich sight to the eyes from the outside...
Well worth the visit. Read the information on Wikipedia and it gives you a great idea of what an amazing place it must have been.
Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. You can get a impressive view of the site if you approach from the direction of the train station. It's wonderfully located with the sea as a background. Unfortunately you can't enter the site.
If your around the area great place to visit, was a market with a possible temple at it's centre. Interesting story due to seismic activity in the area
I had a free afternoon and was looking for an archeological site near the water... This fit the bill! I wasn't able to go inside for a tour but it was still really cool to see and walk around the area. Also if note, there are a few paid parking spots nearby but not a lot so I imagine it's tricky to park in the busy season.
Its an ancient Roman Temple which host the signs when it was submerged in the sea. Because of the deformation related to volcanic activities and tectonics its now above the sea level. Interesting to visit and see you can clearly sea the part which was once submerged in the sea water.
Nice place to visit, distance observation of open air historical monument.

Archaeological site featuring the acropolis of Cuma, built by Ancient Greeks in the 8th century BC.
Slide 1 of 8
We used public transport. Which dropped us off at the foot of the sight. Entrance was 5 euro. Pleasantly surprised at what you and get to experience. Not many people when went. Took our time exploring and enjoying the views. Must see in Naples.
Entrance to the park allows you access to the Cave of the Cumean Sibyl and Augustan age ruins of Temple of Apollo and Temple of Jupiter. Discounted prices for children and with the Arte card.
Another impressive site that covers a lot of ground. It’s lovely to walk around this ancient settlement under trees overlooking the bay of Naples. Unfortunately, the explanation boards are already quite damaged so not all information can be read. Due to the larger sites around Naples there are not many visitors coming to this particular site which makes for a rather relaxed visit. The acropolis is particularly interesting to the tunnels in the rock and to its background as the first Greek colonial settlement in this part of the ancient world.
What a spectacular Greek ruins site. It is filled with wonderful pieces of a not well-known part of the history to many. There are lots of new discoveries happening right now. Very interesting. This was my 4th visit. There's always something "new"...fascinating. Oracle Sybilla is like nothing I've seen before 👌
You should approach this site as a pleasant and scenic park worthy of a peacefull stroll amongst the oaks, olives and ruins on a hill with great views of the coast out toward Ischia. Signage is just ok. The ruins are too desicated to be of more than marginal interest. Definitely worth a couple hours, and Sibyll's cave was cool.
Awesome place to take the family. Not stroller friendly and there are a few steep parts for the kids but overall worth doing. Definitely worth a day trip to explore the whole site. Don’t forget to stop and get some ice cream at the end. Lastly, there is plenty of parking, but I would just park wherever you can find it. The road is narrow at the parking close to the entrance so it gets really congested. Save yourself the time and just park a little further away.
Beautiful site to visit with gorgeous views of the Mediterranean! Plenty of space for the kids to run around, plenty to explore and read about. A great way to combine a history lesson and an outdoor activity for the family. We especially loved the different atmospheres in each area of the site, the kids never got bored!
A site really, really, really underestimated. All visitors come to visit Pompeii or Ercolano if time is sufficient, but Cuma is, indeed, much more ancient rather than the first two. You can find remains of temples and streets up to 700 BC, 700 and 500 years before than the eruption!! For sure some points need to be addressed to enhance this site. First of all, more indications, since it was hard to follow the correct path, up to the main two temples. Secondly, the description of the momuments, very old and ruined, dated 90s. They seriously need a restoration.

It a wonderful area to take a picnic lunch...and they allow you to bring your dog...it has very nice views of the sea...and amazing architecture from 5BC TO 9BC...
Discovered accidentally in 1932, the mysterious trapezoidal galleries are believed to be the setting of Virgil’s legend of Aeneid (book 6). There is another cave of the Sibyl in Pozzuoli (coincidentally near another temple of Apollo) but this location is an actual tourist site whereas the other is not open for tours. Close proximity of two sites may be due to the popularity of the cult of Apollo, which is said to have declined after publication of Petronius’ “Satyricon” in the second century after the main character, Trimalchio, saw Sibyl’s remains dangling in a jar which was strung to the ceiling of the cave. During classical times, being an ancient oracle provided a profitable living. The Cumean Sibyl was one of the most respected oracles. This site is similar to Delphi. Once you enter the cave, the air becomes cooler and damp. Follow the path to the end of the cave where the two benches sit. This is believed to be the location of sacred tripod that the Sibyls would lean over to inhale the fumes while chewing laurel leaves before entering a trance state and spewing prophecies. Roman King Taquin visited the Cumean Sibyl to buy nine of her books of prophecy. Arguments ensued over price. Sibyl threw 3 into the fire and told Tarquin he could have the remaining 6 for the same price. Tarquin protested. Sibyl threw 3 more books onto the fire. Tarquin walked away with the remaining three Sibylline Books for the original price and used the books to guide Rome until they were destroyed in the fire of 82 B.C. From the Cave of the Cumean Sibyl, one can follow the trails around the park and see the remains of the Temple of Apollo and the Temple of Jupiter. Both are believed to be from the age of Augustan. Recommended time allotted to the park: 2-3 hours minimum. 4-5 hours if you read book 6 of Virgil’s Aeneid to your companions while you tour.
It's a unique place, I've never seen anything like it. It's very interesting and different.
All well kept me unfortunately looks like lots off places with fences and barriers so shame they don’t get them areas open as looked interesting
This is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been to, and no one has ever heard of it. Brush up on your Greek mythology and get a guidebook before you go — there’s not a lot of information there. There’s a site there where Daedalus created a temple to Apollo after Icarus fell into the sea — it feels a little surreal know that’s a real place —- whether the story is real or not, I had no idea that there was actual place that Daedalus was supposed to have landed after escaping King Minos. Look up the Sibylline prophecies, too, before you come. And bring a bottle of water and sunblock.
Lovely experience, we came on the first Sunday of the month so it was free entry. However it would have been better if we had a guide.
Incredible. Lovely views over to Ischia with clever overlay to look through to get an idea of the classical view. Parking a bit tricky, small car park.
A nice place to take a slow stroll through the ruins. Some relief from the heat can be found in the Sibilla itself

Good experiance, did not see a lot. But glad we did it. Very nice people
Great experience however low visibility on the day we went Aug 10th. You do see ruins. The Roman floors are the best thing to see. This dive shop is difficult to locate as it is at a resort on the beach side of the railroad so you have to walk through the pedestrian tunnel to get there. Park in the parking lot for the beach goers North of it and walk back.
What an amazing scuba adventure and history lesson!! SuBaia dive center was an amazing tour guide.
Many interesting things to see at the marina and surrounding areas. Romans bath ruins underwater tour of the Baia area. However tours are seasonal because of weather.
A unique place! Amazing! I had two dives and it was WOW!! Thank you Vincenzo Mario Latora - great diving center!
Lovely sandy beach. Wade out in the shallow water. Great for families. Hire sun beds and umbrella for 10 euros. Cafe bars and showers for your convenience The train stops right on the beach. Will take you back into naples city. Where you can commute to your destination
Lost for more than seventeen centuries under the blue waters of the western coast of Italy, the sunken city of Caesar, Baiae, was frequently visited by famous Roman Caesars such as Julius Caesar, Nero and Hadrian, who died there during its heyday. The villas that emerged or were still submerged, temples showed the wealth of this region and for centuries it was considered one of the most important Roman cities. Pliny the Younger lived here, and from here, across the bay, it remained the sunken ancient city after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum. It was discovered 1700 years later.

(Translated by Google) Pozzuoli Cathedral offers a fascinating picture of its eventful history. Originally built as a Roman temple, the building was rededicated as a Christian basilica from the 5th century onwards and was expanded and redesigned several times over the centuries. The cathedral's resistance to numerous destructions is particularly impressive. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and finally a devastating fire in 1964 left their mark. After the fire, the church fell into disrepair for a long time until modern restoration around 10 years ago gave the cathedral a new splendor. During the inspection shortly before the service, I was able to admire the sometimes adventurous fusion of ancient and modern elements. The preserved parts of the old building structure, combined with the carefully implemented modern restorations, impressively testify to the resilience and ingenuity of the people who have maintained this cathedral over the centuries.

(Translated by Google) What we admire today is the result of multiple reconstruction interventions that took place over the course of over two millennia, also due to seismic events that still affect the area. The datings start from the 2nd century BC with the construction of the temple dedicated to the emperor Augustus and then became a place of Christian worship between the 5th and 6th centuries. A fire in 1964 reduced the building to a pile of rubble until its reopening in 2014. Aside from the artistic works it houses, I find the idea of using enormous windows a truly particular solution that allows us to "mitigate" the mix between two very different architectural styles such as Greco-Roman and Baroque. Access off the road is down steep steps, to underpass the railway. Cash or card. Brush up on your Italian as not all workers speak English. They do serve a proper pot of tea. Te caldo ( hot, black ) or te caldo con leche ( with milk) if you're that way inclined. Toilets to the left of the bar/ right of kitchen inside the cafe are spotless
It's a beautiful place! Suitables for families with children and very comfortable for all👍⛵🚤!
Very nice got some drinks was nice vibe
The beach has a wonderful view, the bar is well-done and the spa area is affordable and pleasant (make sure to arrive early to get a spot). However, the bathrooms and changing areas leave a lot to be desired. Bring soap, toilet paper and a friend to watch the doors because they don't close properly.
The people of the bar are completely unpolite and useless. I speak good Italian and asked the people of the kitchen if they had any vegetarian option. Twice. Explaining what vegetarian is. They said "no, we don't have anything for you". Then o saw people ordering normal pasta with tomato sauce and several other paninis. But in general, all employees behave the same: you ask anything and they just point at the answer, without answering. They are lazy and don't want to work. Then they complain because they don't have more tourists or clients. I hope you have to close your dirty place.
Nice little beach. It got a bit noisy in the afternoon but the staff were friendly and the services were ok. It's a shame the sea was not the cleanest sea but for a city beach it was ok

Clean, friendly and quiet. One of the nicest lido’s we’ve been to.
If you are in Naples, you have to try this beach. They have both sand or decked options for beds as well as an adults only pool area. Full hot lunch available, staff super friendly. A must for the locals which says it all
The best thing were the friendly woman at the counter selling the tickets and the women selling the food. 35€ for two people to get entrance to the pool, 2 beach lounger and one umbrella. The facilities were in ok condition, but for that price definitely not good enough (wooden floor was broken, with little nails showing out, so it was dangerous to walk there without shoes, the shower on the pool was dirty and with nearly no water coming out). At least they tried their best to keep the place and the pool clean. The pool was quite refreshing though. You’re not allowed to bring any food or drinks inside the facility (they control it) and to go into the swimmingpool it’s mandatory to wear a bathing cap, which for us was very uncomfortable. Also the pool boy who told us to wear it, was not very friendly, talking to us in Italian language knowing we don’t understand properly. So as a tourist we didn’t feel very welcome here. The restaurant is self-service, with higher prices then normal for Pozzuoli. The food was ok, could have been better for that amount we’ve paid. 20€ for a little pasta, rice salad and a drink. We definitely would NOT come back here and we also would not recommend it to anyone, especially tourists. We expected more and we got disappointed. There are way cheaper, friendlier and more beautiful locations to relax in Pozzuoli.

The hiking path is well maintained and there are some good viewpoints (definitely no Flipflops, carry some water). The whole park is really clean and there is a water fountain at the entrance. Also a good place to learn about mediterranen Flora and Fauna…. Just bring a guide book or use an app. This place is a hidden gem!
Interesting spot a shor walk around the vulcano crater. Amazing view of the lake and vay.
A great place for a hike with family or friends. Has breathtaking views, walking uphills might be challenging for someone who is new to such activities; there's a tap with fresh water around the entrance and a bathroom too. A couple of benches, and tables for picnic downhills.
I went up the mountain by foot. There was a hole of a volcano up. I took many photos. It was a nice walk there despite my being exhausted after a 6 hour trip by train from Ferrara to Napoli.
Very nice little hiking place, toilets and tap water in the entrance. It’s super super hot in summer so be ready, not so much shade here. If you walk long enough u can reach a lake which you prolly can’t take a swim in so don’t count on that, but it’s full of animals and plants.
Amazing views, nice place to hang out and enjoy nature in Napoli.
Beautiful spot. Difficult to find, and one attendant is a grouch. Stairs to mountain path always closed unless you look fit and proper, and ask very nicely.
Great scenery and easy walk

It's a nice place! Very relaxing and quiet!
A best place, consigliatissimo! 👌🏼🔝
(Translated by Google) Establishment located in Licola Lidi, quite clean and reasonably maintained, they removed the children's pool present in 2017 and in its place there is now a gym with bench and weights, the pool for the little ones was better. The large gazebos that covered the three-seater relaxation loungers have now been replaced by a banal umbrella so there is no shelter from the sun! It is useless to reiterate that the sea is terrible, hot and yellowish, unfortunately every visitor to the Phlegraean coast has been aware of it for decades. Friendly and helpful staff. Recommended only to get a little sun and go away!

(Translated by Google) A disappointment for the expectations we had set ourselves, nothing special. I was there for a 50th birthday oh my what a disappointment. A buffet that was nothing short of pitiful and nothing good. If you can avoid it there is better.
(Translated by Google) For me, my wife and my daughter, it has become our "trusted" beach for 3 years now. It is very well looked after, and the toilets are always spotless. On the beach, there are huge canopies with mattresses, then many "new" umbrellas and sunbeds, which are distant among the many on the beach, and it is also possible to position them as you wish. On the one hand, there is synthetic grass with a 4x4 swimming pool, it is frequented mostly by young people, also having a large solarium. However, on the opposite side there is another pool frequented by families with children, this pool is also very small given the size of the swimmers. There is also a nice restaurant, where you can find many delicious things, at very affordable prices. Personale disponibile e cordiale, parcheggio a pagamento (1,00€)
(Translated by Google) The lido is really nice, not very big and very crowded on weekends. You can't relax in the pool at all. The customers are very noisy and the music blends in with that of the beach next door.

(Translated by Google) I'll start by saying that although I'm not from Campania, I've developed a culture of mozzarella and that only a few names from the Agro Aversa area satisfy my needs, but I have to admit that this mozzarella is really great and that it amazed me, really delicious and the staff is very kind. For those who want a quality mozzarella and are in Pozzuoli, Bufalè is a guarantee 🤩 (Original) Premetto che nonostante non sono campano mi sono fatto una cultura della mozzarella e che solo alcuni nomi dell’agroaversano soddisfano le mie esigenze ma devo ammettere che questa mozzarella è davvero tanta roba e che mi ha stupito, davvero buonissima e personale molto gentile. (Translated by Google) Good but not great! Unfortunately I only give three stars for the disappointment found when opening the bag prepared by the sales assistant. We went here to buy some mozzarella and typical products to take home to Trentino. Super friendly and helpful. We took 5 buffalo mozzarella (very good, nothing to say), 2 burrata with truffles, a piece of pecorino with walnuts, olives, taralli, bread, turkey and stracciatella (the latter to make sandwiches for the trip). When we arrived in Rome at the service station, we realized that alas, the stracciatella wasn't there but we had paid for it anyway! We were really disappointed because we were in Naples for a few days and we couldn't even taste it! A bit of disorganization for sure but the products are still good and fresh. Sin! Peccato!

(Translated by Google) Even though the mozzarella is good, I won't be back because the staff is rude and acerbic. I'm not saying they should celebrate the customer, but at least a little friendliness wouldn't hurt. I felt uncomfortable, which is not my style. That's why I gave it one star.
