Fantastic museum of railway history in Catalonia showing all things Iberian gauge railway, as well as some exhibits from Spain. Some exhibits are in English as well as Catalan and Spanish. It's easy to spend two hours here and then see the local town. Easy to reach from the local station with connections to Barcelona.
It worths the while if you have small kids. The access is easy(next to the actual Renfe-Rodalies station of Vilanova and next to the bus station). It has a space to leave your bicycle. If you have a Library Card the price is reduced. Kids under 5 don’t pay. The place is spacious and kids can plat inside or outside freely. I saw kids playing hide and seek even. It also has a playground outside and a picnic area. Lots of stuff to see. Interactive monitors make it more fun for the little ones. Water fountains outside and sitting areas. Clean bathrooms. Helpful stuff. The inside playing area is so fun too! The Vilanova library is also a couple of minutes away if you want to visit it as well. Walking distance (5 minutes) from the beach and a huge park as well. It’s a great excursion for kids!
What a truly incredible museum!! The staff were very friendly upon entry. The price to enter was very reasonable. They had information available in Spanish, English, and French! It was very easy to understand and learn. I spent well over an hour exploring the trains, cars, and property.
Great place to visit and learn about the Catalonia railway. Kids visiting were having a great time. The information on the trains and locomotives were very informative and the staff was wonderfully nice and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend if you’re near Vilanova i la Géltru.
It is probably one of Europe's finest steam engine museums. This museum offers an unparalleled journey through the history of industrial innovation. Featuring a vast collection of restored trains, and interactive exhibits, it captivates enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. The museum's dedication to preserving these magnificent machines makes it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the golden age of steam power and its profound impact on modern technology. It is a must-see museum near Barcelona! PS. The staff is amazing! Thank you!
Good collection of trains, in a well organised itinerary and with comprehensive explanations. It's possible to go on the footplate, look at the detail and interact with the controls of several steam engines. The indoor museum was also interesting. When we visited on a weekday, however, some of the exhibitions were not functioning. The price was very competitive, and the staff attentive and willing to help. Parking was hard, because the car park next to it seemed to be for regular users only.
I enjoyed my visit here. A good mix of textual information and physical exhibits. Friendly staff.
The train museum in Catalonia is a must-visit for locomotive enthusiasts and history buffs alike, even if you're coming from just an hour away in Barcelona. Stepping into the museum is like stepping back in time, surrounded by magnificent locomotives and carriages, each whispering tales of Catalonia's rich railway history. The collection is comprehensive and captivating, featuring sleek, modern bullet trains to grand, smoky steam engines. And the best part? You can actually climb aboard some of the steam locomotives, making history come alive. Ticket prices are reasonable, especially considering you have a whole month from purchase to revisit the museum at your leisure. It's perfect for families or anyone who wants to explore the exhibits in multiple visits. Beyond the impressive locomotives, the museum offers a fascinating journey through Catalonia's railway history. Interactive exhibits, informative displays, and historical artifacts paint a vivid picture of how trains shaped the region's landscape, economy, and culture. Whether you're a train enthusiast or just looking for a unique and interesting day trip from Barcelona, the train museum in Catalonia is a winner. With its impressive collection, interactive exhibits, and budget-friendly approach, it's a journey that will leave you enriched and entertained. Bonus Tip: Check the museum's website for special events and activities, which can add another layer of fun to your visit.

Wide and pretty clean, a nice beach club Havana nearby
One of the worst beach experiences I’ve had. Filthy sand, cigarette butts everywhere, and the water smelled weird. Way too crowded, noisy, and absolutely no charm. Avoid unless you enjoy chaos and disappointment."

Beautiful beach, decent waves and a long way to walk in. Even non swimmers can relax in the waves. No sun umbrellas but also no toilettes.
Very dangerous beach. When you go swimming, it's very likely that your belongings will be stolen. It's dirty and it stinks.
Way too Donda yet again. Why beseaches me This has gone on for a while and it makes staff and other people act rudely
Beautiful peaceful open beach. Nice beach bar too for drinks, meals and cocktails.
a wide beach with smooth entry into the water, ideal for families with children
Gorgeous beach, good waves, safe and clean.
This was our hiking destination, from Sitges to Vilanova along the coast.
You have to pay to park (2h for 4€). Before it was free to park inside the beach but now it seems they want profit from everything

Unusual sculpture by Oscar Estruga along the beach in Vilanova. As it is a popular hangout for local fishermen, it can be difficult to get a pic or selfie of the structure without someone or something else in the pic. Nice walk out to see it in the sunset.
Pasífae is a 1993 sculpture by Óscar Estruga. It depicts the Greek myth of Pasiphaë, the wife of King Minos of Crete. Poseidon sent a magnificent white bull to Minos as a sign of favor, expecting it to be sacrificed in his honor. However, Minos kept the bull for himself, angering the god. As punishment, Poseidon cursed Pasiphaë to develop an uncontrollable desire for the bull. To fulfill her infatuation, she enlisted the help of the inventor Daedalus, who constructed a hollow wooden cow where she could hide and mate with the bull. This union resulted in the birth of the Minotaur, a creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull, later confined in the Labyrinth. The sculpture represents this myth, showing the cow with the figure of Pasiphaë inside, embodying themes of divine wrath, human folly, and the blending of the mortal and the monstrous. The text below the sculpture says “Our city, bathed by the same sea that bathes Crete, recognizes itself in the Mediterranean civilization. “Pasiphaë, daughter of the Sun, suffered a mad passion for the whitest bull in the herd of her husband Minos, king of Crete.”
Very beautiful, even though some tourists treated it like their own camp. Still, rating the beautiful site and the monument.
Very pretty especially in the evening. The sculpture (Oscar) has done a phenomenal job.
One of the best place for refreshment in Barcelona, vilanova i la geltru.

Art museum
19th-century museum & library with a collection of international paintings, sculpture & other works.
Slide 1 of 8
A really nice museum considering that Villanova is not a big city. I was surprised with the art and renovation
Wonderful way to spend afternoon. The collection is much richer than expected. It includes a strong focus on Catalan art from the 19th and 20th centuries, with works by Rusiñol, Casas, Nonell, Mir, and others. Alongside this, there are Baroque paintings on loan from the Prado, an Egyptian collection, and objects from Asia, the Philippines, and pre-Columbian America. The historic library is also impressive. Entry is inexpensive (free on the first Sunday of the month). The museum is quiet, not crowded, and can be enjoyed in about 1–2 hours.
This museum absolutely blew me away! What a fantastic experience and - because of the pandemic - there were very few visitors. You will feel like you have the whole place to yourself. Here art from across the centuries is displayed in grand style. I loved the library as well and hope that people get access to the volumes displayed. #VilanovaIlageltru
This small museum has an unexpectedly good collection of art. Paintings and sculptures. Entrance is free on 1st Sunday of month with free guided tours at 12pm.
This museum just opened. Although it is not big, the collection is fantastic! If you like old paintings and artifacts, this is a must-see.
Very good collection of Catalan modernist paintings. Together with the storage of the Prado museum exhibited currently, it is worth paying a visit. The activity initially planned for children on September the 7th should have been organized in advanced so as to be able to carry it out, in spite of the last minute registrations. I hope we can enjoy it next month.
Way too much focus on religious theme for my liking, but if you're a fan it may be a feast for you. Some may find the 2 early works by Picasso interesting, also there's 2 by Goya that stand out. The one that caught most of my attention was the Passion Triptych by a follower of Bosch. Rounding up to 3 as it was ok-ish.
This is such a great exhibition in not such big town.

Interesting tour guide visit around an historical house built in S. XIX. It lasts one hour and it requires you to book in advance. It is highly recommended!
Guided tour only. Starts every hour. Usually just Spanish and Catalan but sometimes the staff can speak English. Can Papiol is a late 18th-century manor house in the historic center of Vilanova i la Geltrú. It is currently opened as a museum that shows the daily life of a wealthy family through period furnishings and decorative arts.
It worth it 100% the visit with the wonder guide of museum . The house is a trip to the nearly past . Excellent to the explanations of the kind guide always attended to show us the nice and details of the house
This place is amazing. It was impressive to see and to learn about 19th century wealthy people and the architecture and the decoration in 18th. If you have interest in culture, antique, history and interior design, this place is worth visiting. You need to plan well and be on time.
Wonderful place to see and learn the story of the family who build it. I recommend visit with a guide to know more about the story of Catalonia related to this “little” palace.
We got very lucky! English-speaking tour is once a day at 13:00, but since we were the only group at 11:00 a very friendly guide was gracious l enough to give us a tour in English. The mansion itself is quite interesting! Highly recommended!
We had a great your guide who kindly explained all the details about the objects and history of the house in English since we were the only ones at that tour time.

Totally quiet not so crowded
Beautiful beach, walk and views. However, in winter, the parking is very unsafe. We got robbed - broken window + stealing. We dont know if it was pure coincidence but the area behind the beach is not well kept. It's not very clean, lots of overgrown plants, looks sketchy. You don't have a good visual of the parking lot either. Keep that in mind.
This is a small, intimate, family beach with only the most essential services, it has an aura of peace and safety. The beach is flat, the sand is fine, and the seafloor slopes gently. It's almost the last beach of Vilanova i La Geltru - except for the slightly separated naturist beach just off to the side. The only caveat is that the train runs behind the beach every so often but after the first hour we hardly noticed it. There's a car park, cycle parking and motorbike parking, and a restaurant with a terrace & rooftop dining. Not quite quaint, but closer to it than many beaches in the area.
Not crowded (that's good), parking close to the beach, but not easy to arrive.
The parking isn't free anymore a d

Not much to see. I didn't go inside
it's called a 'castle', but it has no watchtowers, no moat, and no crocodiles. It's just an old building with no possibility to visit it inside. But it also doesn't have a dungeon, so it's not worth it.
Although it's very spacious and it's kinda cold for people that like it, it's romanticism style misses some points and the shapes and forms create a simple form that is not too attractive to the eye counted in architectural design. It has too little too small windows and it doesn't translate to a good sensation of light. The castle resembling a church has an overall poor design technique and doesn't pop to the eye when seen. It has some interesting history but doesn't go further than that.
It is only open till 3pm, so please note that it might be closed when you get here after lunch. I thought Villanova is not nice. But this part?!? Beautiful! Please come here first, then try the rambla. Astonishing.
This and the surroundings are the most interesting part of the old La Geltrú town.
I haven't been there yet but to set the record straight this building was a medieval fortress (not a castle) and now houses a regional history collection. I looked it up since I'm an architect and the style intrigued me. From wiki: The architecture is a fascinating blend of Romanesque and Gothic elements. The windows on the southern façade, adorned with intricate interlacing patterns and vegetal motifs, showcase the transition from Romanesque to Gothic design. Two of these windows date back to the late 13th century, while the others were added in the 14th century. Despite its extensive restoration, Castell de la Geltrú retains a sense of historical authenticity. The base of the square tower, located at the eastern end of the façade, is believed to be the oldest part of the structure, dating back to the 12th century. This tower likely stands on the remains of an earlier defensive structure, adding to the site's historical intrigue. A Modern Role Today, Castell de la Geltrú serves a dual purpose as a historical monument and a functional archive. Since 1997, it has housed the Comarcal Archive of Garraf, preserving the region's historical documents and records. This modern function ensures that the castle remains a vibrant part of the community, connecting the past with the present.

Beautiful fresh seafood, poultry, vegetables, cheese and fruits. Good prices and friendly vendors. There is a wine/coffee bar to sit and have a snack also.
Great indoor/open market. This is one of the great reasons to come to villanova. There is an excellent French cheese stand and a great bar that serves excellent food. The usual market suspects are there and a fair few feuit/veg stalls circling the market outside. You'll be spoilt for choice!
Loved the place and the people inside it, everybody have a story to tell and such a fresh products... dont miss it.
Great local market with fruit veg cheese etc
Very fresh fish and vegetables and the market owners are always up for a joke
This is one of my favorite spots in Vilanova i la Geltru. In this market you will find the freshest meats, vegetables, and fish. The fish is caught at night in the local waters and auctioned in the morning at the local port, then driven directly to the market for sale. Often times you will see the fish still flopping around in the market stalls. Visiting this market will give you great insight into the local gastronomy and the daily lives of the Spanish people.
Best fresh fish of the region, most of the paradas have own boat....also the veggies are excellent.... enjoy the shop better than in big shopping chains (lidl, alcampo, aldi, caprabo...) also you support local producers (km0 low CO2 emissions).

Great museum. A must see in Vilanova. Not gigantic in size but will show you some interesting things about Vilanova and the fishing community. A super additional show of a famous Vilanova person who built vessels models
Light house in Vilanova I la Geltru. Very impressive icon in the marina district.
Small museum, English translation available on request.
Enjoyable place to visit. Two small museums within the Vilanova Lighthouse very friendly and with particular history. Some surprise are waiting you when there, which will provide great memories to you. Do you know where is the smallest boat of the world?....🤔
Nice part of Vilanova, with a great beach, walks, lighthouse and restaurants nearby. It seems the council has "discovered" it and is ordering the parking, the beach, adding walkways and "chiringuitos"
Well worth a visit even my wife enjoyed it despite no interest in fishermen or the sea.
Cozy place for sightseeing.
Very lovely place to visit and see small town history
