Amazing castle with still much of the ruins to explore and reimagine. The layout is intact so easily interpreted with helpful signs and a good free map. The roof top climbs are well worth the effort - which, with a stone spiral staircase with a stout almost vertical rope, is not for the faint hearted! But there's plenty else to wander and wonder about.
Kidwelly Castle was such a fun stop. It’s got a great mix of impressive ruins and well-preserved parts, and the layout makes it easy to explore at your own pace. I loved wandering around the towers and walls, imagining the medieval life that happened here. The grounds are peaceful, and the castle has a nice, welcoming vibe without being too touristy. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!
Beautiful place to visit. It's a wonder for the kids, plenty of stairs and towers to climb. Dogs friendly environment. Staff is friendly. However, the gift shop looks small and pretty well tied up. You have a mini fridge to buy refreahments, but the options are quite limited. There are free toilets on site, just next to the gift shop. There is a disabled toilet available, too. The parking is free, but it is quite small, though.
Really enjoyed this place! The staff were friendly. I think young families would enjoy this. A few hours of entertainment at most. Try the walk around the castle which is very pleasant on a nice day.
Dog friendly (although they request that keep the dog on the ground floor), free carpark a short walk away, nice little gift shop and friendly staff. The castle was really interesting, and well worth a visit if you like history/old castles
This castle was great as it's so intact, you are able to go up the tower and walk the top of the walls, friendly staff in the small shop / ticket office at the entrance, it's dog friendly but they are only allowed at ground level
Wonderful castle to visit with kids! Spent nearly 2 hours looking around, enjoying climbing the various parts of the castle. They had an entertainer there too. The gift shop is really lovely and nice pocketmoney bits. Worth visiting the walled gate just down the road and then looping round to walk down at the bottom of the castle as beautiful view. Just a really great time out and reasonable cost too.
Fantastic castle. Lots to see. Car park at castle, small. Has electric charging points. Cadw owned. Great info brochure and lots of info boards. Will visit again!

Pretty little castle in a beautiful setting. Nice views from the top. Doesn’t take long to see the inside, but nice area to relax and explore.
We didn’t go into the castle itself, but walking the full exterior loop was totally worth it. The path winds you through a mix of charming streets, little bridges, and open views of the estuary. The castle ruins pop up between trees and rooftops, and honestly, it was just such a gorgeous setting for photos. The tide was low when we were there, so we saw boats resting in the mudflats, and the whole landscape felt kind of frozen in time—but in a poetic way, not a boring one. The village is quiet but full of character. It’s an easy, peaceful walk, and if you're into photography or just nice scenery, this place really delivers.
Took a walk around the castle and had an ice-cream. Lovely views across the estuary listening to bird calls. A very relaxing atmosphere. You can walk up steps to Dylan Thomas's writing shed. There are public toilets available a short walk from the car park but you need 20p to enter. A convenience store , gift shop ,cafe and pubs within a short walk.
The castle is pretty and enjoys a lovely outlook over the estuary. However, it’s quite small and you can see everything in just a few minutes — I’m not sure it justifies the entrance fee, especially when nearby castles like Llansteffan are free and in my opinion, more impressive. Having said this, the small garden was well kept and had the most amazing smelling rose blooming The town itself: We visited on a Monday afternoon at the very end of June (not exactly out of season), and although Laugharne has several pubs, only the wine bar was open — the others didn’t open until between 3:30 and 5pm. We might have enjoyed the experience more if we’d been able to grab some lunch and a drink to extend our visit but overall it felt a bit underwhelming.
Beautiful views over the Taf/Laugharne estuary from the top. So much history associated with the castle and lovely to see it so well cared for and looked after. Can see where the entrance fees are spent. Really enjoyed our visit.
Gorgeous castle. The views and the outlook are amazing. Read the boards inside, it’s a good story. Also, take the flights of stairs to the top for the view.
Beautiful Castle, impressive grounds and historic significance Short distance from Dylan’s Boathouse Definitely worthy of a visit and climb the stairs to the turret for great views
Lovely place to spend an hour or two, history explained and nice grounds and view. Lawn games available free to use and nice shop with friendly staff.

These are just ruins of the old castle. Country Hall built on the old site. Just a portion of the old wall exists with a partial tower.
Local parking, short walk to the main entrance, huge castle to walk around and filled with interesting items including a museum which is over a few different floors within the castle. Well worth a visit. We did it in a couple of hours but you could easily spend three to four hours in the castle.
Carmarthen Castle is a ruined castle in Carmarthen, West Wales, UK. First built by Walter, Sheriff of Gloucester, in the early 1100s, the castle was captured and destroyed on several occasions before being rebuilt in stone during the 1190s. The castle was captured by Owain Glyndŵr in 1405.
What a wasted opportunity! Carmarthen Castle could be an attractive focal point for the town — and to its credit, it does have plaques explaining what you're looking at, which many ruined castles don’t. But the whole place was filthy and felt completely neglected. It’s frustrating to see such a historic site treated like this. A bit of pride in the heritage and some basic upkeep would make a huge difference. Sadly, the same sense of filth and disregard was obvious in many of the main towns across South and South West Wales. Please note that the review below by another member showing a big castle is Caernarfon Castle, NOT Carmarthen Castle!
A short uphill walk from train station. We had one hour wait for train connection and decided to go up to castle grounds. We did not go in the castle. You have a nice aerial view of surroundings. There are also informative placards. If you go from train station give enough time for the crosswalk you need to use. It’s an odd 4 point crosswalk and takes longer to wait for the green sign than it actually takes to walk up the hill. On the opposite side of castle there is a nice bricked plaza with shops and a nice place to take a drink if you have the time. If you are driving beware of limited parking. We were there mid week and noticed available parking spaces right there.
To be honest, I expect more from the castle, but overall it's not a bad place to visit. It has a nice view.
Small part left of this castle but nice to visit . Lovely views from the side
It was closed so can’t rate it. No signage for opening time either! It is in a very pretty town centre that is nice to walk around.

Came years ago and the car park was closed off with a gate but recently have been here early for sunrise, once with mist, and wow, what incredible scenes
Cool place to visit, free parking which we stayed overnight in, quite tight back roads to get to it though. Short walk up a small hill to see it, nice views all around, not a lot there.
Just did Dryslwyn Castle on the opposite hill and had a great view of Paxton's Tower, so had to come see that too. Well sign-posted, decent free car park, free entry. Short uphill walk, nothing strenuous. Only stopped for ten minutes. Great views but not much to see. Worth a quick visit though.
Interesting Tower, shame the gate was locked. Would have been lovely to go up. Great views all around. Worth a visit and only a very short easy stroll from the car park.
Free with free car park. Fantastic 360° views. Interesting Banquet Tower built 1811. A memorial to Nelson. Worth a visit. Dog friendly.
Lovely beautiful place for spend the day, if you like a calm place. You can make a picnic and enjoy the nature, calm and silence. I love it
Easy access to visit this unusual folly. Great views.

The British Bird of Prey Centre was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Wales. It’s located inside the Botanic Gardens (as of July 2025 - though we have heard they are moving out), but they don’t get any of the admission fee, so visiting here is by donation. We came here twice on our trip, and both times were met with amazing staff who were kind and informative. They know so much about the birds and centre and we loved chatting with them. The signage inside is really helpful in getting to understand the birds, and the information we learned from the bird show was excellent. The only downside was that we couldn’t stay long enough to see both shows. We absolutely loved our time here and when we return to Wales, as know for certain we will be back!
Fantastic day out. The staff are very friendly and the birds are SO we'll looked after. A great family day out. My daughter and I even got to fly one of the birds. Visit and support a wonderful experience
The shows are educational and the birds beautiful. If you have ever been to a country show this is much more impressive, the birds are used to people and will fly between you. There are also group experiences for flying the birds which are very affordable, allowing you to experience the connection falconers have with their birds
I was gifted an owl flying experience here at the British Bird of Prey Centre. The experience far exceeded my expectations. I had the opportunity to fly four owls, and watch two bird of prey shows. Emma, Alex and their team clearly loved these birds and their care was evident throughout. They had immense knowledge and were able to demonstrate this for each bird. Every owl had its own personality and it was brilliant to be part of their world. I can't wait come back, and I highly recommend a visit, or an experience to anyone.
We have just finished a bird flying experience with Simon and I can’t recommend it enough. It was absolutely amazing! Staff are brilliant and the new location is going fantastic looking forward to see you again soon! Good luck with your new adventure
We had the most amazing visit and Owl Experience! 🦉 It was honestly one of the best days of our lives, spending time so close with these incredible birds. The team were absolutely brilliant — so friendly, welcoming, and passionate. The shows were varied, fun, and fascinating. We can’t thank you enough and can’t wait to come back!
What an amazing experience, I can’t recommend this enough. We did the half day experience the birds were truly beautiful and we had a superb guide who taught us lots about them, thank you Simon, a day I will never forget.
What an amazing experience at this hidden gem of a place! We watched the flying display run twice daily, with falcons and a golden eagle, and then booked on for an owl flying experience with Dory here, a great grey owl! Just £10 pp for half an hour walk through the woods - turned out were were the only ones, so it was even more special.

A great little museum with some fascinating exhibits set in the former Bishop's Palace and stunning parkland. The cafe serves delicious cakes and pasties as well as a wide range of hot and cold beverages. Both museum and cafe staff are particularly helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.
Marvellous place to visit. Easy parking with plenty of disabled bays. A good range of exhibits. Great cafe which is doggy friendly and offers doggy ice cream. Free entry to the museum. Famous large grounds to walk round too.
Beautiful gardens and walks, lovely cafe with delicious food. The museum is interesting, I visit often and enjoy every time. It is also dog friendly!
I recently visited the Museum in Carmarthen and l had a lovely experience. It was truly fascinating to learn about how life was lived in specific eras, giving me a deep insight into the activities and daily routines of people long ago. The museum did an excellent job of showcasing the advanced way of life for the time. What really stood out to me was seeing artifacts that were remarkably similar to others I've encountered in Zimbabwe. This connection was so interesting and really highlighted the shared aspects of human history and development across different continents. I highly recommend a visit to anyone looking to explore the local history and appreciate the broader connections found within its collection.
Museum wasn't open on a monday as I would of loved to of gone in to see it ad I've heard some amazing things about it so sad it was shut on monday But the gardens and grounds are well maintained and saw many wildlife and flowers Love the cafe there so would recommend there.
Plenty of free parking at this free museum and many interesting historical items and information to see. Has a small shop and a really nice cafe, dogs allowed in the gardens which is a great place to relax or have a picnic. Takes about an hour and a half to peruse the museum.
Surprised to find the Bishop's Palace is a museum. Plenty of interesting information.
A rainy day in Carmarthen made brighter by visiting the museum. Free entry and very interesting local history exhibits. Coffee shop on site serves very nice cake and coffee along with dishes for lunch. Cafe is dog friendly and lots of free parking on site. The gardens look interesting too but didn't explore due to wet weather but a great excuse to return 😊

The drive here was amazing but the views at this location are just as breathtaking! What a sight to be seen. The dam itself is a great bit of engineering. Great views of the reservoir and surrounding woodlands too. At the North car park there is a public toilet also. Perfect to park up and soak it all in, get out for a short stroll to the view points and information boards or hike away into the woodlands and mountains.
An interesting place to visit. Lovely views, even though we were in the clouds the day we visited, it added to the atmosphere. There's a good walk to be done, if you're capable, unfortunately I'm not, so I only walked onto the dam and back but the rest of the family went over and walked for a while. There is plenty of parking and also toilets. The journey in took us down what seemed like an unused (for general traffic) road, it was very narrow but we made it safely!
A beautiful area, the dam is impressive. You can park up the other side and then drive around and walk over the top. The resovoirs go on for a long way and are an amazing drive with beautiful scenery, lots of places for walks and picnics. If you drive for sometime you can come across the remotes chapel in Wales I believe. At the car park for the dam there are toilets, the days we have been there, there has been a burger van and ice cream van. From the car park you can take a very long or short walk, for those in wheelchairs or mobility issues across the dam is flat and accessible. Plenty of parking. So of the roads are a little high and windy but the amazing views make it a worthwhile day out.
Beautiful Llyn Brianne Dam And Valley. I Have Explore And Still Yet To Adventure More Area. Lots Of Hiking And Place To Stop By In Car To Admire The Scenery. Fannog And Dam It My Favourite Places To Visit.
Amazing place. Plenty of parking and toilets ( could do with updating). Stunning views and lots of walks for all abilities.
My favourite place in South Wales. We were the only people there at the time, gorgeous weather and breathtaking views. Shame that because of the dry summer water levels were super low, so no water over the dam. Beautiful part of the world🌍
Good place for walks and pictures. And there is toilets. And a mobile food cafe. 😋
Awesome place to visit and wild camping. No distractions due to not reception or internet so great relaxing place with beautiful backdrop views

Superb surprise for my wife in " throwing a pot !" Excellent instruction with great encouragement and guidance. Excellent value for money and a highly recommended way to spend a morning or afternoon. Great range of gifts as well. Well worth booking the experience.
Lovely customer service. The workers were so nice and were very helpful. I've been there three times and each time is a great experience for me and my siblings. If you book for pottery painting over a call you're given no time limit to paint something of your choice. I've painted a plate, a gnome and a mug. They have a variety of options to choose from and a lot of paint to choose from. I would definitely recommend going here for pottery painting.
Beautiful top quality pottery with great customer service. I visited here many years ago and purchased a beautiful vase. My sister in law has always admired it and I thought it would make a lovely gift for her but I couldn't find the particular product in the design I wanted on the website so I contacted the company and they said they would be happy to make one for me. A few weeks on and my beautiful vase arrived safely today. My sister in law will be delighted with it. Special thanks to Christine for all her help and constant contact and updates. Will definitely shop here again.
We ordered a custom made dog bowl for our schnauzer Gertie. It arrived very securely packaged and is exactly as we specified. Just perfect and we are delighted with it. Thankyou Chris and Sarah for a lovely piece of unique pottery. It was also very resonably priced too.
Fantastic! The lady couldn't have been more helpful and kind. We were on a hen party and turned up without booking as our other plans got cancelled and she welcomed us in and couldn't do more for us! It made our day! We had such fun painting all the pottery. Thank you so so much! I highly recommend to anyone! X
We were looking for somewhere to go and Gwilli Pottery came up on Google. We decided to head over, not knowing what we would find. We walked through the door to be met and greeted by the Master Potter herself! We asked - on spec, if we could have a lesson, and she offered us a 1 to 1 session creating some unique master pieces (well we did make them). Chris was the ultimate professional and patient teacher, showing us what we needed to do and as a result we created some great ceramics. We can't wait to see them in the next couple of weeks when they will be delivered to our door. It was a real pleasure to work with Chris. She is a true artist whose years of experience show in the familiarity with her medium and the ease with which she passes this expertise on. The cost of the whole session, including delivery of our finished pottery, was an absolute bargain and I would highly recommend this thoroughly enjoyable experience to anyone.
Visited the pottery earlier this week and learnt a lot about Gwili and it’s origins in the course of simply browsing around the premises. The staff were very friendly and informative. Some gorgeous items on display (the Howie designs being our favourites) and all realistically priced given the time and effort needed to produce ‘one off’ pieces of this nature. Consequently, bought a number of items and the pleasure that we will get from our purchases will be immeasurable. Loved it!
Really lovely place, beautiful pottery I bought a gorgeous lamp, can recommend, however, make sure you Google where it is as we were given an old leaflet and they are no longer in Pontersais, they're in Llangela.

Was really looking forward to their 'strawberry cream tea'. 1 dry scone a teacup of cut strawberries and Flora plant cream... in what universe is that acceptable? Plant cream? That is false advertising at its height. Absolutely disgusted by the misleading information provided by the elderly man who was quick enough to take my £5.... obviously I didn't ask for a refund as it's a lovely church and for a good cause(one hopes..) But they shouldn't mislead people. Disgraceful.
Very pretty church in the heart of Carmarthen. Close friend had a wedding there which was lovely. Beautiful setting inside with stained glass windows a plenty.
I agree with the previous review as my family and I went along to this church for a cream tea, the old man at the door was quite demanding and we wanted to have a look around and then have our tea, lovely little church but on seeing the price and lack of quality of their products, we went to a local coffee bar instead and had real clotted cream and fresh scones and jam.
So enjoyed this visit. We were at the open day we saw the tomb of the Bosworth knight. And the story teller was second to none. It is so full of history. Especially grateful it is still a functional Church. Top of my list for another visit. Amazing value for my 10£ donation.
This was an amazing church. We visited because my ancestors the Morris family were either baptised .married, buried or worshipped there, the significance of the tomb of Rhys Thomas the soldier that put the death blow to King Richard 111 is interesting as the Thomas family name is also in my family tree .we loved the visit.
Absolutely stunning church with beautiful stained glass windows and a very long aisle . This church is steeped in history. The aisle is the longest I've seen in a long time. I was told by a church elder that the church seats 600 people... Wow!
The stained glass window- shepherds holding the key is well worth a viewing.

I have no words to describe how beautiful this place is. It was exactly what I was looking for (I prefer to be with animals on a farm than be around lots of humans) and this guesthouse exceeded my expectations!! Ended up staying 4 nights instead of 2.Sharon and her staff are very kind and it was all very homely!! clean rooms and breakfast is excellent.People in carmarthen are also super kind. There are some excellent restaurants in town.I will come back again Sharon. Lots of love to you and staff xxx p.s if anyone is visiting here for the first time, please please be respectful of her establishment and the farm. It's a quiet beautiful place with beautiful energy.
Stayed for 2 nights, couldn't ask for better! Location is far enough but not too far from Carmarthen (nothing wrong with Carmarthen, I just prefer accommodation out of town where possible, far more peaceful), beautiful setting and building, booked somewhat last minute but communication was great and the owners very attentive but not overbearing. Price was more than reasonable for a well kept, clean room with good quality towels, good sized bathroom and a beautifully prepared breakfast included! 10/10 will stay again when I'm in the area.
I can honestly say, was a lovely one night stay. Arriving in daylight made it easier to locate although Google maps took me straight to the front door so must have been updated since some of these older posts! Sharon’s other half welcomed me in and Sharon completed check in - both lovely hosts. Room (Gwenllian), although a little dated, reminded me of some of the guest houses I’ve stayed in the past, but most importantly, bed and amenities perfectly clean. After good night sleep (worried a little about it being a working farm but didn’t hear any animals waking me up in middle of night!!) and good pressured shower (for those like me that this is a must), was welcomed into the surprisingly large dining room for a great Welsh breakfast. All in all, a great and peaceful stay outside of the busy carmarthen centre. Would definitely recommend and likely to return again if have the chance. Many thanks
We had a good stay at the family run farm. The rooms are well done and kept to a great standard. It is a working dairy farm, so you need to bear some smell of manure when entering the main building. The views are lovely all around. Huge dining area, which was used for serving breakfast. The family lives in the same building, so please be mindful of the noise. We were a boistrous bunch with kids in tow and did end up disturbing them with a bit of noise.
A really quiet country location but just everything superb. Sharon was so friendly and helpful and the room was spotless. The breakfast menu had all you could wish for and freshly cooked to order!
Very beautiful farm and lovely hosts. The view from the top of Merlin's Hill is one of the most stunning in southern Wales; definitely worth the 15 minute walk. Pros: It is a steep walk up hill via a very narrow track at times, which means that you likely will not have to share this magical experience with crowds of loud tourists with cameras. Cons: The track is so narrow at times you can barely tell which way to go, and there are no handrails, signs, etc. Not accessible to the disabled or mobility-assisted. Overall, a very nice experience. The farmers' charming dogs escorted us up the hill and back. The walk was pleasant, the views idyllic. There is a sign at the very top that describes the hill fort and legend of Merlin. Be sure to enjoy the nice collection of displays and items at the farmhouse. Cheers!
Met by Sharon who was a great host. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. It was a privilege to stay on this working farm. I would happily stay here again.
Excellent atmosphere and welcome, comfortable and clean, look forward to coming back.

Excellent gallery which I always enjoy visiting when in Carmarthen. Pieces are well displayed and are not overpriced. Also, art can be purchased with an initial deposit followed by monthly instalments which is fantastic. I have purchased two paintings from this gallery which I absolutely love.
Out of date art , not relevant to 2024 , avoid this poor excuse for ART .!
Amazing gallery - fab hand-made cards too
Spent a thoroughly enjoyable, fun weekend with Andrew Douglas Forbes as he shared his intriguing style of painting with the group. Delightful studio, warm, clean and light with tea /coffee on tap. Looking forward to Andrew's five day Painting master class starting on Tuesday 5th November at 5-30pm.
This gallery very contemporary and very welcoming even to the extent I was able to help with a open competition exhibition although only 15. Everyone was very nice and it was an excellent experience. High standard artwork which inspired my own work
A lovely eclectic mix of original, local art at reasonable prices.

Excellent experience at this theatre. Seats are comfy, concession prices aren't priced at 'second mortgage needed' level. During the interval we noticed we were being watched by a people watching pup from a window across the street (photo added for all your puppy picture needs). Parking is in a paid car park nearby but was also inexpensive and a short walk.
Lovely old theatre with comfortable seats with decent legroom (I am 6'5"). Free evening parking nearby is a bonus.
Wonderful cinema and fantastic play. The staff were really helpful recommending easy access seats for people with limited mobility. We saw Ceridwen, it was a great production and had a cast of really talented actors
First time visiting the Lyric and we loved it. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The inside of the theatre has some lovely original features such as the old film projector and signage. Seats were some of the most comfortable we have had in a theatre too. Sound and view of the stage were good. We went to see Rev Richard Coles and really enjoyed the show. Parking was easy at the car park close by and added bonus, it was free after 6pm when we went.
Friendly helpful staff. Small, quaint theatre. Excellent local production. Great family entertainment.
Great venue lots of character, seating old but very comfortable. Great sound and acoustics, staff brilliant. Diolch.
Comfortable small theatre with intimate feel. Saw Elis James comedy in Welsh and the Nutcracker by the Russian Ballet within a week of each other. I mean- there's a bit of everything! Well worth a visit.
Had a lovely evening out. The theatre had been repainted and I think new seats. Had been restored to its former glory!!!.

Very helpful staff. Much of interest and loads of information
Not open on Sunday. Arrived on Saturday, Sunday we need to find out what to do. TOURIST OFFICE CLOSED. Useless. Get up to date guys. Stop living in the dark ages.
Absolutely useless and pointless waste of public money in it's current location. Nobody can see where it is. Even as someone who has lived here for years I only just found out it existed when it popped up in my timeline. God help a tourist who has just turned up for a few days. A shame really.
Staying in Carmarthen, I needed to meet someone at the station. Approaching the station from the town, the signage is hopeless. There is a sign to the station at the roundabout, but the next sign to turn right is well past the cul-de-sac which is signposted as such but gives no indication that that is in fact the entrance to the station. The one sign there is is fine coming from outside the town but NOT for those coming from the town.
Great insight into how a prison was in the 1800's

Sending my daughter to meithrin with Lleucu and her fab team has been the best decision I made, they are so accommodating and welcoming, my daughter has flourished, highly recommend.
The improvements made to the ground have allowed the space to become a real community hub for football. Really impressed with the surface and it’s maintenance. Hopefully the rest of the ground will follow
I must say in recent years the club have taken steps to improve this ground and you can really see the results of the work they have put in. The team have also improved on the field which adds to the match day experience. Gone are the days of aizlewood screaming launch it long. With Greg Walters and his incredible hair in the midfield there is sure to be something for the children less interested in football to enjoy. Carmarthen Town are a true gem of a club and with the stadium with in walking distence form a vape shop it's an absolute must for any football fan in the UK. Get yourself down to Richmond Park for an Old Gold for a game against the likes of Penybont and you are guaranteed to enjoy yourself.
Adjacent parking at reasonable price. One of best grounds in Welsh premier league. Good snack bar .Also good bar serving pre match meals
Richmond Park is my Sporting Spiritual Home. I won my Victor Ludorum here in 1982. I represented my school here on numerous occasions at cricket and football and also learnt Judo here. Now it’s the home ground of Carmarthen AFC!
Easy to find, parking was easy, toilets clean and plenty of refreshments available! Pitch was also perfect!
Great little stadium. Not far from the town centre. Nice food and drink
Fantastic ground. Great set up. Well worth a visit.
