Castles
Castell Talacharn, also known as Laugharne Castle, is a medieval fortress with Tudor mansion and gardens located in the picturesque town of Laugharne. This historic site overlooks the stunning Carmarthen Bay and holds great significance as it was once frequented by the renowned Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Visitors can explore the imposing 13th-century castle ruins and stroll through vibrant gardens surrounding the Taf estuary.
Pretty little castle in a beautiful setting. Nice views from the top. Doesn’t take long to see the inside, but nice area to relax and explore.
Robert M — Google review
We didn’t go into the castle itself, but walking the full exterior loop was totally worth it. The path winds you through a mix of charming streets, little bridges, and open views of the estuary. The castle ruins pop up between trees and rooftops, and honestly, it was just such a gorgeous setting for photos. The tide was low when we were there, so we saw boats resting in the mudflats, and the whole landscape felt kind of frozen in time—but in a poetic way, not a boring one. The village is quiet but full of character. It’s an easy, peaceful walk, and if you're into photography or just nice scenery, this place really delivers.
K E — Google review
Took a walk around the castle and had an ice-cream. Lovely views across the estuary listening to bird calls. A very relaxing atmosphere. You can walk up steps to Dylan Thomas's writing shed. There are public toilets available a short walk from the car park but you need 20p to enter. A convenience store , gift shop ,cafe and pubs within a short walk.
Sonya — Google review
The castle is pretty and enjoys a lovely outlook over the estuary. However, it’s quite small and you can see everything in just a few minutes — I’m not sure it justifies the entrance fee, especially when nearby castles like Llansteffan are free and in my opinion, more impressive. Having said this, the small garden was well kept and had the most amazing smelling rose blooming The town itself: We visited on a Monday afternoon at the very end of June (not exactly out of season), and although Laugharne has several pubs, only the wine bar was open — the others didn’t open until between 3:30 and 5pm. We might have enjoyed the experience more if we’d been able to grab some lunch and a drink to extend our visit but overall it felt a bit underwhelming.
Clairedolci — Google review
Beautiful views over the Taf/Laugharne estuary from the top. So much history associated with the castle and lovely to see it so well cared for and looked after. Can see where the entrance fees are spent. Really enjoyed our visit.
Jo P — Google review
Gorgeous castle. The views and the outlook are amazing. Read the boards inside, it’s a good story. Also, take the flights of stairs to the top for the view.

Beautiful Castle, impressive grounds and historic significance Short distance from Dylan’s Boathouse Definitely worthy of a visit and climb the stairs to the turret for great views

The personalized lighting adds to the ambiance, and there's even a multi-level children's play area for younger kids. Visitors appreciate the affordable prices, meal options, and enjoyable snacks. The venue also supports local initiatives with its profits. Guests have praised the friendly staff and clean facilities while recommending booking lanes in advance to avoid waiting times.
Love this place. Used to take youth here years ago and its still a great place. Not expensive, meal options and fun snacks. Great ethos and knowing that profits go into local support and provision is great! We loved the bowling 🎳 and the videos after each go were hilarious with our kids. Parking was great and easy. Shop down the road and information on the support services are available everywhere. Friendly staff and clean toilets are always a good way of checking its cleanliness We will come back again

What a great day for the family 👏 The staff were extremely helpful. Oscar and Jack went out of their way to make sure we all were enjoying and didn't disappoint. Well done excel bowl great place to bring the family ...👏 ✔️ 👍 👌
William H — Google review
This is the place to go with the kids. This place is an excellent stop great concessions for kids, bowl and lunch £12 , I thought this was great value and it is half price with the concession. The staff are so helpful and friendly, a coffee was knocked over and replaced with no hassle. The duty manager was so helpful and informative. Five stars is an understatement for this kids zone. £4.50 for the kids lunch is a great deal on it's own.
Christine D — Google review
Brilliant really enjoyed our time here. There was an issue with our lane but was sorted really quickly. Would certainly recommend
Alex C — Google review
Great little place. Cheap kids prices for bowling with meal included. Soft play is very small but OK for younger kids to have a run about. 11 year old was too big. (up to 7***), younger children enjoyed it. Bowling had great little cartoons to keep kids entertained with their faces on. Staff extremely friendly. Asd friendly.
Jane D — Google review
Great place for a quieter than usual game of bowling. Great choice hot and cold food for fast food type pickings. Nice staff. Not too noisy like most and not too many ( slot ) machine type amusements to distract the kids! Gorgeous soft play area too. Says it's £2 per child but I'm pretty sure no one paid and nobody was keeping guard as such.
Sarah M — Google review
Don't get me wrong I love this place. The refit is terrible for the children. The soft play area is hiding somewhere... The big slide has gone and it is nothing more than a see through cage for children. Hardly anything for them to do now. Such a shame and the area behind the soft play is a complete waste of space. Nobody uses it! If its free its OK. But this is not worth paying for... Go to the leisure centre down the road if you want your children to have proper fun...

Fabulous building right in the middle of town steeped in history. We had breakfast today and we all agreed it was lush. Three full breakfast one eggs benedict. All was cooked to perfection. The eggs were absolutely lovely. Staff were really nice and welcoming. If you are in town this is definitely a place to visit.

Enjoyable breakfast, unfortunately they play the music far too loud especially in the morning, can’t hear your self think straight.

I love coming here when I have a tough day or before work. I already have my favourite food and favourite spots and have never been disappointed. Today's music playlist was exceptionally good. I enjoy the atmosphere and the amount of details. The staff are busy because of the amount of guests, but they are always polite and friendly.

Carmarthen Park

Park
Carmarthen Park is a well-maintained average-size park located centrally, close to shopping centers. It features two children's playgrounds, a velodrome, rugby pitch, skatepark, Gorsedd stones and bandstand. The Tea Shop at the entrance offers refreshments and can be booked for events. The park has new equipment and public toilets nearby. Visitors can also enjoy a walk around the Gorsedd stones and bandstand or the perimeter of the velodrome.
An average-size park located in a fairly central location, only a short walk away from the main shopping centres. There is a small tearoom at the entrance to the park as well as some public toilets. The park is home to two children's playgrounds, the velodrome and rugby pitch, a skatepark and Gorsedd stones and bandstand. The Gorsedd stones and bandstand are a main focus point for the park and there is a small circular walk around them. You can also walk around the perimeter of the velodrome.
Gethin S — Google review
I really like this little park to come and walk the dogs or just to sit and have a moment away from the hustle and bustle of Carmarthen Town. There is a cafe near the entrance selling food and drinks (also dog friendly) seating inside and out. Not many parks can say they have a velodrome, and this one is open to the public and can also be used for private hire. There is a small skate park at the back of the park although it never looks like it's open. Lots of seating around the park to sit and soak up the sun and greenery around. Closest parking is Tesco and the park is a short walk from here, it's also very wheelchair friendly.
Laura I — Google review
Nice park and have play area for kids. It was started in 1900 and 10 mins from the Carmarthen Railway station , so it’s easy to go and visit if you are having more time and have to wait on train station.
Satish K — Google review
Lovely park, but toilets were disgusting! No car park but some in streets around, we shopped in Lidl and walked across the road to give our dog a run.
Ros M — Google review
Nicely kept park brilliant for the kids. Also a cafe with both inside and outsie seating, skatepark, plenty of benches and grass to sit on, free public toilets, Cycling track and rugby pitch. Brilliant area for picnics or just a nice walk with family/friends/couples.
Jemma H — Google review
Carmarthen Town Park is a very well looked after park with lovely playgrounds, a full sized Velodrome (for bikes), tea room and great skatepark tucked away too. It has always been a great park, very impressive history and no doubt a bright future. When you enter the main entrance of the park, you pass the "The Tea Shop", which is open during the summer and can be booked for events using the town council website. On the way through, you walk between the playgrounds, divided between big kids playground and little kid playground. When I walked through, the kids had drawn chalk pictures on the concrete, such a lovely sight. Carrying on through, you're presented with a full, newly refurbished Velodrome next to the "old" Gorsedd Stones, a group of standing stones constructed for the 1974 National Eisteddfod of Wales. Behind these stones is a Grade II listed Bandstand. The skatepark is at the back entrance, which is also well looked after by the local skaters. A big, open and free park to visit, with room for a picnic and a brilliant view of the Carmarthen and beyond. An easy walk from the town center, and if you are coming in by train, it's simply over the bridge. A must-do summer spot!
Danny B — Google review
All new equipment in the park which is fabulous also there are toilets nearby and a small cafe if needed.Tesco and lidl are also a short walk away of you wanted to pick up anything and have a few hours in the park

Gwili Steam Railway

Heritage preservation
Local history museum
The Gwili Steam Railway offers a nostalgic experience with antique steam trains, dining car meals, and various events. It operates on a preserved railway line from Bronwydd along a section of the former Carmarthen to Aberystwyth railway. The locomotive stock represents local industrial and wartime operations, adding to its unique charm. This historic attraction hosts vintage weekends and Christmas dinners, providing visitors with an immersive journey into the region's railway heritage.
We enjoyed a lovely welsh elevenses during our journey. What stood out for me was the enthusiasm and passion that all the volunteers had for the railway. Everyone was more than happy to give us information about all the exhibits. Lovely to be able to walk among the rolling stock. The post office mobile sorting office was incredibly interesting. Well worth a visit
Patricia G — Google review
Currently on holiday in Wales and making the most of our visit. The Railway was recommended at our holiday site and so glad they did.. What a wonderful experience this place provides, such a unique family day out. Amazing route taken by train just amazing views . Steam train itself definitely the highlight of the day . So much history to learn. The commitment of the volunteers is truly remarkable, learning what they do to what's planned truly amazing.
Clive G — Google review
We visited Gwili Steam Railway for the Christmas train experience and absolutely loved it! From the moment we arrived, everything felt festive and well-organised. The staff were cheerful and dressed in Christmas spirit, creating a magical atmosphere for the kids and adults alike. The steam train ride was scenic and relaxing, with beautifully decorated carriages. Santa came around with gifts, which made it so special for our little one — such a joyful moment! There were mince pies, hot drinks, and plenty of photo opportunities along the way. A perfect day out for families looking to make festive memories. We’d definitely love to come again next Christmas!
Shipra S — Google review
Took the 13:15 train to nowhere and back again, it was a wonderful experience. From booking through to safely returning to home the process was easy and enjoyable. When we collected the tickets from the office the lady was very welcoming and gave my dog lots of attention, and some treats, which he loved. Have pre-booked our tickets the allocation thoughtfully placed us in a position where we had space for the dog to relax without being in the way of others, even though we were booked in open seating. We walked the platform and boarded the train, which set off promptly. The ticket inspector gave us a brief of the journey and what to expect. We had the opportunity to watch the tractor unit swap from a forward pull to a reverse pull, at the far station. On the way back we were able to stretch our legs and read about some of the history of the railway and the supporting technologies. As well as see the miniature railway, unfortunately this wasn't dog friendly for any dog who can't fit in your lap. Finally we hopped back in the train to the starting station to disembark one last time and return to the car. Afternoon tea was available, and I hear it was delightful but couldn't have it myself due to the no dogs in the dining carriage policy (which is to be expected). All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout and I would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Steven S — Google review
Decent railway recently extended to over 4 miles, big free carpark, nice cafe on station, attended on a Wednesday and to my surprise most seats were taken so glad I booked in advance, lots of different types of train to see along the line, great views from the window as the train follows the river it's whole journey,
Jason S — Google review
Lovely few hours travelling through the valley. We booked an early ride with tea and cakes. When we arrived we were supplied our tickets and shown to our carriage and seats. Just before we left we were serviced with a pot of tea and Welsh cakes. The journey took us out in to valley and back again with a stop at the outdoor train museum where the staff we very kind and knowledgeable. Really worth the trip.
David C — Google review
Lovely journey very scenic. Great to see all the progress since our last visit a few years ago. Staff very enthusiastic and helpful. Really enjoyed the day. Wishing GSRly all the best for the future.
Max W — Google review
We visited the railway in a rainy day as a family of 4 adults and a one year old. It was good for a short afternoon experience and all the volunteers were fantastic, it’s nice that they can keep something going, without them it wouldn’t happen. We were able to take our pram on board (collapsed) and it was kept at the end of the carriage. No toilets on board I don’t think… just at the midway stop. At the midway stop (30mins) you could have a very prompt look around the mini museum and vintage Royal Mail Train carriage, as well as other old carriages. Bit gutted the mini railway at the halfway stop wasn’t operating (I guess the weather or out of school season), and I must admit the cream tea felt a bit overpriced at an additional £13pp, considering they’re shop bought scones. I really appreciate the fact the railway probably operates on a shoestring with the volunteers enabling it all to happen, but felt a bit bland for the cost, so I’d probably recommend it without.

Best place I have had afternoon tea. Such friendly staff who literally couldn’t have been more helpful and wow the food was amazing. Plenty of it and loved the fact we could choose our sandwich and tea flavours. We will most definately be going back, nit just for afternoon tea but breakfast, lunch and cakes. If you’re in Carmarthen you should make it a stop for food.

Delightful little cafe and tea shop. Staff were all very friendly and attentive - visited with my grandparents (late 80s) and staff couldn't do enough for us. Everthing we tried was delicious. We will definitely be returning.

I visited this lovely tea shop today with a friend and I have to say that this was one of the best experiences I have ever had in a tea shop. Firstly you enter and get blown away with the lovely unique tea and coffee options they have, I personally went for the dong ding which was a tea made with Japanese ingredients which was an absolute beauty of a tea I also went for a scone with butter and jam which was also really tasty. The atmosphere in this place was otherworldly I found the place to be nice with a cozy vibe which really personally uplifted my experience in which felt was a temple of piece and happiness. Finally I have to say that the service here was great where I met a young boy named Charlie who was very engaging in conversation and recommended me the dong ding. I found him to be comedic and outgoing in conversation which really made the experience to be a more comfortable environment overall. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is a fan of hot beverages or someone who likes a nice cozy environment.

It's been a year since I visited and I'm jonesing hard for more Leigh's Blend. A friend in the area brought me in for a pot and a snack. The shopkeeper asked me a couple questions about my tastes and pointed me to Leigh's, which, if I recall correctly, was second or third in their lapsang souchang blend hierarchy. Anyway, despite being at least half something else, it out-lapsangs the stuff I get from my US supplier and adds an otherwise unknown peaty goodness. Dig the house tea timers. I gotta get back.
Alexander B — Google review
Booked 5 for afternoon tea, ended up with 6 and they were so accommodating! They put a birthday banner out for my daughter without me asking which she loved! The food and service were absolutely 5 stars. They packed up our remaining cakes to take home and when we unwrapped it we saw how much care they put into packing it up, each slice of cake wrapped separately and the boxes sealed. All the staff were so polite, we will 100% be going back.

This is the best tea experience I've had in a very very long time. The tea shop offers many different types of tea, from all over the world. I love the fact that they have selected their teas from places that are eco-friendly and fair to their employees. The teas are very good quality, and so are all the cakes that they offer. The staff is friendly and highly professional. The owner in particular is much knowledgeable about his products, and there is a passion there that improves the experience overall. We had a great time!

Brilliant fish and chips. Such lovely staff. Gluten free fish and chips were lovely, large portions, gluten free vinegar too. All cooked in a separate fryer. Also available gf sausages. Good set up with relation to covid. We were on holiday in Pembrey but would definitely visit again and recommend!

I am not happy at all with this dog food! I payed over £20 for..... the worst food I have ever eaten, no joke I don't leave reviews, never mind a scathing one like this. The pie stank of pee. I mean stinks like somebody peed on all the pies or something... 4 people verify it stinks, made me gag and heave just from the smell... I can't believe I put this dog food in my mouth to be honest.. I spent all that money and ended up with no dinner... the chips were so greasy they are stuck together and slide out of the tray in one piece.... The gravy was just Brown water... diluted at least 3× I swear to god they should be out of business, what a shambles, staff are vacant looking like they are in a daze 70% of the time i was there. Little hovel of a shop too, it's filthy and untidy, the toilets are located outside and are filthy. Here's all the grease they have been tipping down the drains.. out back.... When I called to complain I was told the pie was made fresh this morning and is supplied by an award winner.... I call bullsh*t on that.... he said oh i will tell the manufacturer.... took no responsibility for the state of his food.

It pains me to say this as I know the owner personally and I know he will react in the correct way. I have always had a great experience and delightful food from here until today. The waitress took no interest in us, wasn't rude but very impersonal and then served us with cold chips and cold sausage and cod. I hope management takes this on board.

Best chip shop in town. A busy chip shop is a great chip shop. Chip portions are generous, food is always fresh and hot. The curry sauce is amazing. Great taste and allergy friendly for me. Amazing staff and friendly service, always welcome there. First place we choose and only place we choose. Coming back for batch and chips. Highly, highly recommended.
Rachel S — Google review
Chips were nice but the burger bun was very soggy, the lettuce was brown, the burger itself was rock hard and looked like it was cooked a couple of times before, the pie looked like it was re-heated a couple of times it was rock hard inside, no gravy and it was inedible. Family member had upset stomach after trying it. Some of the staff need training in customer service. I don't wish to knock any business in this current climate, but they were very giggly and immature. Considering contacting Carms CC Food Team.

Fast food restaurant
KFC Carmarthen is a popular fast food chain recognized for its large portions of deep-fried poultry served in buckets, along with various meal options and accompanying dishes. Upon arrival at approximately 22.15, seating was unavailable inside the premises due to limited space. Unfortunately, the desired chicken selection was not fully cooked, but the accommodating manager swiftly resolved the situation by providing a diverse assortment of chicken pieces to ensure that everyone could enjoy their meal without going hungry.
I wanted to order 6-7 nuggets but the waiter forgot to bring my MUSTARD. although after I got my barber shop haircut that cost a quarter I felt very connected to the staff. I asked the staff member Adrian to explain his friend group at his work place. He didn’t give eeffoc what I said

Went here this evening and the food was really disappointing. Did the drive thru, no one answering at the speaker, then there’s no one at the first window, then you drive to the last window and no one is there. Finally get served and as the server walked off we just had a clear view of how disgusting the kitchen is. Food all over the floor, rubbish piled up. How this place has a 5 rating in hygiene is beyond me. Our hot wings were rock hard and dry, looked and tasted like they’d been sat there since this morning. It’s put me off going here again to be honest.

6.05pm placed order, 6.36pm order was handed to me. The place was not at all busy. The reason - 2 gentlemen working behind counter who are easily confused by preparing orders. I watched with hilarity as they tried to prepare one order and added and took away items, and spent at least 15min working on this one order. It wasn't even a big order. As a result all other orders started piling up and getting cold. My chips were cold, my hot wings were cold. I stress it was not busy. They were pleasant enough, I’m sure doing their best but they either need more training or more of a sense of urgency in their work. Place was nice and clean.

First of all we go around the drive-thru to nobody taking any orders sitting there for a good 5 minutes still nothing... go to the main window, nobody to be seen... I park up to start thinking is it even open as I walk to the door as nobody's to be seen.. We even started to feel like we were in a film and this was the start of the zombie apocalypse that we'd clearly missed.... Walk to the counter to staff actually there but only to have a dirty look like we were an inconvenience.... Stood there for yet again to waist our time and still didn't get served so we walked out!!! Terrible!!!!!

The man at the counter was extremely rude towards my nut allergy!! I asked him if the popcorn chicken contained nuts and he said “I dunno, not my problem”. As a returning customer of kfc I find this highly offensive and rude. I will not be returning! DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!
Lowri H — Google review
Regularly food items are missing. Only serving one order at one time. So you have to wait untill that order is collected before your order xan be taken. When you call to complain food missing. You get oh just let us know next time your in. So we can give it too you then. Not to mention they answer the phone with hello.. so I had to ask if it was KFC. Poor customer service
Carole M — Google review
Probably the worst service of all the KFCs around, they ignore you forever in the drive-through. Not really sure even if they know how a drive through works. Please update us on google maps if your drive through is not staffed, we will not bother coming in the first place. I’ve been told at the counter multiple times that the person staffing it was ‘busy’..

Chinese restaurant
Fortune House Restaurant in Carmarthen is a delightful spot that promises an enjoyable dining experience. Whether you're popping in for a meal with friends or grabbing takeout after a concert, the food consistently impresses. Diners rave about the crispy chili beef and the generous set menus, which offer great value and plenty of delicious options. While there may be limited drink choices like single glasses of red wine or alcohol-free beer, the quick service and tasty dishes more than make up for it.
Since people brilliant service. Really tasty food. It was my husband's 50th birthday and We came with a large crowd. Well done guys

We came here for a meal with friend's unexpectedly last Saturday. We really enjoyed the food. The crispy chilli beef was perfect! The only negatives were that there wasn’t any red wine available in single glasses (our friend was driving so only wanted a small glass). Also no alcohol free beer options so I had two water. Also we weren’t entirely sure what the salt and chill ribs were. Never seen anything like them in any Chinese we’ve eaten from nor ordered at. Especially as the ribs in the starter were actually normal. The salt and chilli ones seemed like chopped up belly pork which was deep fried. We ate one bit and took the rest home but nobody else liked them either sadly. Couldn’t rate the atmosphere higher as there wasn’t really one. It’s a very big place and we were one of only two occupied tables. I can’t remember hearing any music in the background either. Ribs and atmosphere aside the staff were very attentive, helpful and polite and the rest of the food was lovely. We would definitely go back again if in the area and if closer we would order take a take away as the food is much better than our local Chinese! Attached photo of salt and chilli ribs for reference.

We decided to call for a takeaway after a concert in the Lyric Theatre. We live over half an hour away from Carmarthen, but the meals were so delicious, we had another takeaway from here last Saturday. Once again, the dishes were excellent and well worth the hour round-trip to collect!

Had numerous meals at this great Chinese restaurant. Their set meals are excellent value and the service is very good. The staff here wear authentic uniforms and this adds something to the experience. Highly recommended.

Had the set menu for 2, so much food, super tasty, great service , quite full on a Saturday evening, just a little on the cold side in the building. Parking free in John Street parking after 6pm, , restaurant just around the corner so convenient x.

Only place we eat at during our visit in Carmarthen. We had their food for takeaway three days in a row. Lots of options to choose from. Quick service and great food at awesome prices. Couldn’t ask for more. Very popular with the locals too. Telephone orders welcome.

What a joke we walked in asking for a table for 2 @ 8.15, there were 4 tables occupied, and we were turned away because take aways were a priority. I THOUGHT IT WAS A RESTAURANT!!!!!!
