Majestic!!!!! Town is free to enter. The abbey is a must do, its the main part of the town, get tickets in advance and dont miss the audioguide. Best we have had and nothing would make sense without the context it provides. Do the abbey in the afternoon so you can make your way up to it slowly. See the bridge at high tide, so you can see the town mostly covered in water, for photos. It rarely gets fully covered and only lasts an hour if it does. Parking is $20. There is a shuttle, but walk if you can. The walk up slowly is the best part and only takes a half hour. Give extra time to walk the fields all around it for different views and the sheep. We definitely wanted a full day. Could have done one day in the town and a second day to wander all around the outside. We rented a car from Paris for 3 days. The tolls to drive there and back cost us about $45.

Georgeous place, the walf from the parking to the castle takes up to 30-40 min but it's worth. When you get there you can walk through the surroundings freely, but you need tickets (in advance) to enter the castle. It's full of souvenir stores, some restaurants, WC...

Oh gosh, that was great destination. If you ever wanna visit France, don't miss it. It's a must do location. If you'll walk up to the top of the tiny city, you'll think differently about your life, you'll be very happy and you'll understand...why it's important to walk up to the top and think about your life while you slowly look around, you'll understand in a second that we are so small and fragile ... We are all birds of God! Slow down and start feeling the meaning of real life. Here the nature will rule on you, you're small..... nature is big.

Have been fascinated with this fairytale "castle" on a magical island for a long time. Found out more about it when planning the visit. This amazing structure was Gothic abbey and prison in the early centuries. High and low tide, day and night, four seasons give this abbey different charm. Not much light up at night, except in July and August, however you're not expecting big crowd.😉

This is a stunning place and an engineering Marvel. However. It’s a long drive from Paris and the parking lots and mandatory buss ride from the parking lot leave a lot to be desired. The bathrooms at the visitor center would take your breath, men’s and women’s. Upon reaching the island, the streets were very narrow and overcrowded, and it was Shop after shop of more or less the same souvenirs largely Chinese junk. Tried some poor quality ice cream. Unless walking on the mud / sand flats with the island in the background is your thing I wouldn’t wast my time here. There are beautiful churches everywhere in Europe. That are much easier to visit. And much prettier beaches elsewhere in France. The site as whole was a little dirty and unkept. I can’t imagine how awful the crowding would be in peak season.

We visited early in the morning — we were there around 7:30 AM. It was very easy to find a parking spot. Since it was early, hardly anyone had arrived yet, and we chose to use the shuttle. If you come at this hour, you can witness an incredible tidal phenomenon within about two hours and see how the sea surrounds the island. We didn’t go inside the cathedral. Even just the tide is a natural spectacle that you absolutely must see. If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful experience, early morning is the best time to visit.

Mont Saint Michel Amazing place. Like magical 😇 but it's not suitable for handicap 🧑‍🦽 because there is no access to get to the top hill side without lift service. It's really difficult.

I have to say my experience at these Toilets was very appalling. My reason being that the Lady running it charged 2 Euros for me to excrete my bodily fluids. Anyways there was another Woman working there who looked like she was at the lowest point in her life even lower than the Mariana Trench (for those who have been living under a rock the Mariana Trench is the deepest underwater trench in the world). Anyways, back to the story, as I entered the sanctuary of the Mont Saint Michael bathrooms a very pungent smell came about my nostrils. To my disgust I found large splats of diarrhoea smelted across the walls (my best assumption was the Charging lady from the start as her face looked as red as my little boys cherries). Anyways, my experience at the Toilets was not only pungent and disgusting it was filling me with gratitude to the fact that back in the Brexit geezer land of the UK we have access to free toilets. - infinity/ 10. NO BOSH

The island with the village and church is very impressive. It's like going back to the middle ages or entering a film set. Very photogenic. However, the cramped island and narrow streets is totally overrun by tourists during the daytime. The "main street" is a constant queue. If you hate crowds, stay away. We spent the night at a hotel on the island. The bus arrived at 12 from the train station, but we couldn't check in until 16, which left us "homeless" in the crowded village for 4 hours. We killed time by walking around and having some food and beers. Due to the massive amount of tourists, you can't sit down and relax for a long time at the restaurants. You don't have to ask for the cheque, they will serve it to you once you have finished what you ordered, because they want you out and the next customers in as quickly as possible. The same thing repeats itself next day, as the check out time was at 11, and the bus didn't leave until after 17. When it's 17 o'clock, most shops and restaurants close their doors and the crowds disappear. What's left is a calm, but very dark and closed village. It's goes from completely chaos to nothing at all. The people who stayed behind had to use the flashlights on their cell phones to walk around, as there were hardly and street lights. If we should go again, we would stay on a hotel and eat at a restaurant on the shore-side, and take a shuttle bus in for a day trip. Then perhaps walk over the bridge in the evening for a picture of the silhouette against the sky. Tip: There's a restaurant up on the cliff (white umbrellas) that's a nice and peaceful getaway from the crowds below. It seems to have higher standards than the ones that lies in the center of the action. All in all, it's worth the trip to Mont Saint-Michel to get some photos and see this spectacular place in real life, but the atmosphere and island itself is mostly destroyed by mass tourism. I know we are all part of the problem, but maximum cap on visitors per day would be a good idea.

Amazing place to visit. You can see it all in a day. Id advise you stay till night fall to watch the Mont light up. The traffic controlling barrier is an absolute pain (in my opinion if your staying onsite in hotel or campsite you shouldn't have to pay the 6.50 euro a day parking!

We stayed at a motel on-site. Once the tourist buses left about 6 pm we had the island pretty much to ourselves. Plenty of time to explore and no crowds. Beautiful site.

Lovely little church that would be easy to walk by and miss. The Mont is such a maze of little streets and passageways, and it's worth making this one of your places to visit here. Free to visit but as is common in many of the churches, you can pay a euros to light a candle.

Fantastic little church, and free to enter, in the middle of Le Mont St Michel. I highly recommend popping in here for some quiet, cool, and peaceful relaxation away from the busy tourist main street. You can also go out of the back of the church to the cemetery and enjoy some of the quieter back streets of the village.

Very nice church with daily mass. Unfortunately it is allowed to walk around during mass, which is disrespectful in itself but it would be nice if there were more signs to let people know to be silent and respectful during mass. It’s only 30 minutes per day. The mass is not a tourist attraction.

An American citizen visiting this fortress for the purpose of self education, self religious reflection, and general tourism interest will see religious icons almost at every turn. When you enter the small doorway for this chapel, you see a flat bench pew area in the center, darkness on the right, and an altar on the left. Several elderly people will be in the pews, and I genuflected and sat down on one of them. Spiritual respect of the chapel and its holdings is not always given by visitors stumbling in. St Michael is the patron saint of all religious believing airborne military personnel and supposedly all law enforcement officers. I found my way to the Saint Michael statue after passing several votive candle areas adorned with small colorful candles fully lit in all respects. The way in is the way out.....in my opinion. A Catholic person could spend a full week here easy, learning about the icons and congregation. I was in the area from 1030 am to 1630 hours and attended one full French Catholic mass, ate one plate of mussels in white wine sauce and got man handled by two French women at a souvenir store....and then walked back to the parking lot.

Quiet, small, and cozy church.

A very small church with a few stained glass windows, long benches to sit on and places to buy candles and light one.

The church was founded in the 8th century by Saint Aubert, to serve as a burial place (on the south side of the church is the cemetery). From the Romanesque period, the church preserves in particular the pillars of the impost at the entrance of the choir. It is dedicated to St. Peter, also note that on both sides of the entrance to the chapel of Saint Michel are St. Aubert and St. Roch, are wooden statues of the seventeenth century

Very beautiful part of the Mont Saint-Michele. This tower is small, but very nice. Lovely visit. This Tower is part of the walls, which go around the monastery. Stunning and majestic views!

This is a must if you love commercialism, queuing and being over charged for everything. This is one of the few places that I haven't visited in France before so as we were close by we decided to stop in - I wish I hadn't. A horrible over priced tourist attraction that exists purely to make money. Parking is 17 euros minimum, queues for the free shuttle are horrendous so be prepared to walk. Once there the queues are horrendous to get to anything, the prices for anything are exorbitant. Quite literally this is the worst place we've ever visited in France and symbolises everything I hate about modern day commercialism. 2 stars because the views are good and the buildings themselves are stunning

MUST SEE/DO IF IN THE NORMANDY REGION. This place was incredible! The views and abbey are amazing - and there is so much access to so much of the abbey. It was amazing. Now for the details - parking is 3.3 km from the island and you cannot drive on the island. We were told it is about 44 mins to walk. There are shuttles but they can be full. We arrived around 3, had front parking and easy access in the shuttles. Take lots of pictures as the views cannot be matched.

The North Tower (13th century) is an excellent viewpoint for observing the approach of the tides. This tower, built on a rocky spur, is very representative of the defensive style in force at the time of its construction: the highest possible height seemed to be the goal. The use of the cannon made this type of defense obsolete and later only low and robust towers were built on the Monte.

The scenery was so spectacular that it left me speechless. I was just so impressed that I spent hours looking at Mont Saint-Michel from here. The colors of the sky, clouds, and light change from moment to moment, and the view of Mont Saint-Michel is never the same for a moment. It was truly impressive. Stand here and put aside all your daily worries and simply become one with the stunning Mont Saint-Michel scenery, the beautiful land, and the magnificent nature. I hope you have a wonderful experience here!

Lovely place to visit...we were there at 6am to try get the sunrise behind the castle...Sun came up in front of the castle but we still has a great array of colours on our walk from the car park.. We had to walk cause the busses don't alow dogs on ...couldn't get into the place as there was works going on ...Will visit again next time.. Make sure u visit either early morning or sunset for a picturesque view ..

From here you have a beautiful view of Mount Saint Michel, both at sunrise and sunset (any time of the day in fact). It is designed for people to sit here and contemplate the Mount. It was built from June 2006 to June 2009. Designed by architect Luc Weizmann, it was put into service in September 2009.

Perfect at dawn for misty morning photos, with just the bird calls for company. I enjoyed this view more than the visit to the Mont, which was too touristy but the free shuttle bus is worth a quick go.

The barge is a great location to shoot Mon San Michel with the water way central. If you want long exposure night shots shoot full frame at circa 100mm and stand on the raised section of the barrier at the back and shoot over the lower walkway. The lower section picks up every vibration and ruins shots even on a strong tripod. I managed to shoot at 3 minutes at 100mm from the back but barely managed a second at the front.

Absolutely worth the day trip! It's very convenient to visit, as there is a free shuttle bus from the car park directly to the bridge. We walked up to the Abbey and explored the shops inside. On the way down, we took the scenic outer path, where you can enjoy different views of the sand and water. I highly recommend trying the omelette and the lamb chops—they were delicious!

The place is fenomenally beautiful. You can either walk from the parking to the Abbey or take a bus that leaves you at the door. The ambiance inside is fantastic, with plenty of shops and restaurants. The abbey itself is gorgeous, full of history. You can have accompanied tours or go by yourself. The sound and light show was definitely my favourite of the four as I at least learned something and could warm up from the rain outside (but I understand French). The other museums are in terrible need of a clean and update. The maritime ‘museum’ especially is basically a grandfather’s attic of boat models in different states of disrepair.

Don't waste your money. We were very disappointed. Paid as part of 4 so called museum/ experience. Extremely outdated, not maintained or cleaned at all. Basically a scam for taking money from tourist. I could build better museum in my back garden in a shed.

Biggest scam the “museum” is compose of 2 rooms full of mini boat with 15 screen (14 not working) a video projector that show you a video made in 1990. Run away from it asap

Scam is a strong word, but it's definitely not worth the 9e. I wanted to learn more about the engineering of the abbey, and I learned absolutely nothing - all the info presented had already been shared in the audio guide of the abbey. Unlike other attractions in the area, this one is 100% in French with very few visual aids to communicate what is happening, so I wouldn't even consider going unless you are at a B2+ level. Show was so hilariously bad that the main appeal of this attraction was getting to describe it to people afterwards. It was 5' cooler than the outside on a 31' day so it may still have a place in a post-climate change world.

The guys in the entrance stop us to sell us the tickets without even warning us that everything was in French, he even ask us our language previously. After buying the ticket and get it in. We came back to complain and ask if the rest of the museums were only in French as well. When I ask my money back he suddenly did not understand English. He literally told me "Sorry, I do not speak English", felt like scamming, for real.

The lady working at the cash register doesn’t speak English, even though millions of people pass through this souvenir shop. She is very rude, and we certainly won’t recommend our friends to buy souvenirs here.

Must-see site, BUT: a) avoid French national holidays + French school holidays at all cost. This is a tiny island with tiny, winding allyways and it gets VERY crowded b) do NOT go on the island when you're less mobile, with prams, with small kids who can't walk yet, when you're in a wheelchair etc . There are 1001 steps and no lifts. Don't take older / big dogs either, they get crushed when it's busy and they'll find the steps difficult. You can still admire the island without going on it, so even if steps / crowds are daunting for you, it's worthwhile going to see the setting.
