Beautiful garden and a great spot for a picnic! The grounds are massive, with a kids’ playground and plenty of walking paths (be ready for lots of walking). There are signposts and maps around, which makes it easy to explore. The house itself is lovely inside. There isn’t a ton to see, but the history is fascinating and worth the visit. The gardens are very well maintained, with ramps for accessibility , though the pebbled paths can be tricky to navigate with a wheelchair or pushchair. At the back, you’ll find the lake with ducks, which is a peaceful view. We had planned to picnic right by the lake but ended up moving a little further away because of all the duck mess on the ground. Still, there are plenty of other nice spots to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery. There are lots of bins around, families having picnics, and lovely little features like the falls to discover along the way. Overall, a must-see spot — beautiful, spacious, and perfect for a day out.
Beautiful place. Esp in sunshine. Staff are brill - pleasant, polite, efficient, helpful and funny. Could do with a wider range of food, and a jacket potato 🥔 tuna 🐟 priced at £7 felt a little steep. Coffee ok. Happy to see bikers too... although 10 of us at one time might have been too many... :-) We parked in we think a bicycle parking area. It's all gravel, so take care. Toilets clean and pleasant experience. Will be back! Thank you thank you!!
The outer grounds and around the lake is an excellent walk. The side and rear gardens were very nice. There isn't a great deal to see in the house compared to other stately home's but the room attendants were excellent. We went to see the huge walled garden that has been opened for the first time in 270 years yo celebrate the 50th anniversary of opening Bowood to the public. Sadly this wasn't as impressive as we were expecting and was rather run down. For having to diversify and open to the public to help maintain the site, this really could have been opened and brought on to a high standard long ago. Toilets on site are few and far between, best one is by the entrance to the walled garden. There is a good sized play area on the way in for children up to 12.
First visit, far better than I expected. The childrens playground was unreal for a thrill seeking 3 year old and a 40 year old that refuses to grow up! The house, the grounds and the lake are beautiful. Worth walking down to the waterfall and caves. The food was good and staff very friendly and helpful. Only downside was my daughter cried because we had to leave.
A bit underwhelmed actually. The house is not as grand as expected and only one wing is open and all the bedrooms were closed at the time of our visit. The gardens are ok but have not got that much in them. The best bit was the arboretum with some huge specimen Lebanon cedars amongst many others and the small waterfall at the bottom of the grotto. You are not allowed to walk around the lake disappointingly. Only one cafe was in operation at the time of our visit with a fairly limited offering. Not enough benches in the arboretum on which to admire the tree collection.
Lovely walk around the garden and house at Bowood today, nice to walk down to the lake and find the waterfall. Then a walk through the walled garden before walking into the house and admiring the art, furniture and the stunning library. Played golf the previous day which is easily One of the best courses in the area, greens in amazing condition and the fairways showing no signs of the dry spell. An afternoon in the Spa followed by a beautiful meal with red wine, and a cheeky cocktail after, but the thing that makes it all work are the attentive, caring, thoughtful and smiling staff, nothing is too much trouble.
We had a fabulous day for our visit. The cafe was well stocked with a variety of soups, sandwiches & cake. Incl. Gluten free! Our visit was enhanced by a group of people dressed in Georgian costumes, who danced on the lawns. The house is lovely and the guides so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The walled gardens were a riot of fabulous colour and well planted. It was a pleasure. Will go again😁
It's a lovely place with beautiful grounds with grottos, lake and a lovely temple folly which is perfect in its contrast between back and front views. The attendants in the house were so enthusiastic it was infectious. The walled garden is well kept and interesting with fancy flowers and ginormous pumpkins which thrilled one visitor while we were there. The management of the estate leaves a lot to be desired. We walked to the grounds from Calne - the exit road is signed with no public access and we were stopped from walking out by an estate worker in a car "because it isn't public access". But if you're in a car, public access is just fine - pathetic Bowood Estate, pathetic! We were told that it was dangerous to walk down the access roads and were redirected to a (longer) walking route crossing the golf course, which wasn't signposted and had checkpoints and gates which were mercifully unattended otherwise we thought we'd be charged with trespass. This brought us out onto Old Derry Hill, a 40mph road with no pavements and steep banks or walls on either side - it was pretty clear Bowood Estate didn't care about our safety, just their liability. I give it 3 stars just because most people will arrive on four wheels and won't experience the sheer lack of integrity of the Estate that we got to see. I certainly won't be rushing back soon.

Nicely maintained huge park with a park canteen shop, kids play area and beautiful surroundings. Kids play area activities includes water play which is great fun for kids. Very good for family day out in summer. There is a tennis court, a members only Chippenham Park Bowling Club established in 1923. Celebrating its centenary anniversary this year. Not so crowded, Toilets facilities available, Free car park.
One of the best places in Chippenham, it's well tended, dog-friendly, nice kids playground, basketball court, 3 tennis courts, space for ball games, often outdoor yoga or fitness classes available. I know most of the friendly Park Keepers by name as I rollerskate there a lot, the regulars are friendly (even came to my aid when I had a bad fall once), clean toilets etc The highlight is always Matt's Tea Room with fair prices catering for all tastes - snacks, hot n cold drinks, icecreams etc. My pup pulls me in a beeline for a tub of dog icecream and I love the luxury hot chocolates (cream, sprinkles, chocolate stick, marshmallows - the works) which are a real treat. Really lucky to have this beautiful park a short walk from home.
Beautiful park and good facilities. Cafe, play area, tennis courts, a bandstand! Gorgeous mature trees and plenty of space.
Parking is very limited and was busy and difficult to navigate the busy parked street leading into it so didn't really see the park from the inside but driving around the outside it looked pretty decent and well maintained. Maybe next time when schools are open
Lovely large park along with a huge play area. Little un loved it here!
Has open space but doesn't just feel like a field. Has a dog walking area, splash pad. Pretty big kids play area. Cafe. Basket ball courts and and i think tennis courts. A band stand that has a band play in it on Sundays in summer I believe. Perfect park, one of the best local parks I've been to always a great place to be on a sunny day.
Haven't been in to the park for a long time. It's still such a beautiful park to walk around and something for which Chippenham can celebrate as a great achievement
A beautiful place to enjoy with your family, friends and dogs. So many places for your dogs to run, sniff and play, a fenced off area for dogs and lovely seating areas. One of my favourite places to go to

Done my first drive today. Amazing experience. Staff was great and welcoming and marshall was amazing with all the information and he gave me few tips how to get faster lap. What a legend. Will come back soon and would recommend to everyone. Great job guys!
The minimoto experience they offer is truly unique and so so special. We travelled 3 hours and made a weekend out of it for our slot and it was absolutely worth it. We'll be back and we'll bring more bikers with us - thanks for such a fantastic time. Fantastic team and great value for money too!
2 x 15 minute time trail sessions, online profile tracks your best lap times and let's you add a driver photo. Overalls, helmets and gloves are provided. Safety briefing video is thorough and track has lights to indicate crashes etc. Staff could be better with communication as we were a bit confused about when our second session would start. Karts are quick and can be adjusted for shorter people. Plenty of parking, on site toilets and vending machines. Can provide kids birthday parties
It's a great venue, track, and exceptional value. The service is friendly and efficient too and everything on the track runs like clockwork. We had a great trip out with my teenage son and two of his mates on the Tuesday 3 sessions for 2 evening offer. This was our second visit and I'd highly recommend to anyone. We prefer to travel here from Oxford than to go to Reading or Southampton for karting.
Karting was booked here for my sons stag do experience day. The location is fantastic, easy to get to. The drivers had like, 20 qualifying laps, to get their grid positions👌 Then their race was over about 20 laps too! It was very organised there and staff were friendly. I didn't actually take part, because of my spine condition, but they all loved it and there was some healthy competition going on🤣😂👍 They all said it was very tiring! The suits supplied by M4 made them very hot and they were all sweating😬 So bring a change of top and some deodorant!! 👍🤣 It is all set inside, so the weather will not spoil this lovely event. There is also Mini Moto bikes to ride on! That was fun to watch them zoom around on them! A great activity to of done.
Hi karts look good but don't do the mini Moto unless you are 3ft tall a gymnast or into yoga. Not built for normal people
Last day of.summer holidays treat for my daughter. Arrived at 11.30ish as the Google page said they opened at 11. Was told that they were closed and that the google page hadn't updated their new opening hours. Annoying but we swallowed that. The guy said come back at 2pm and we could get on the track. With 2.5hrs to kill we went and got a sandwich and sat in my van, waiting til our slot (we'd driven over an hour to get there so not many other options). Went back in at 2pm.and the same guy said there was nothing available for another 45mins which would have then been too late for us to get home in time for other commitments. Daughter cried for most of the way home. Nice one, thanks very much.
If I could give zero stars… I would. Absolutely terrible experience. The staff were completely unprofessional and failed to step in when a group of parents began threatening someone half their age over yellow flags that were given out. Instead of de-escalating, one staff member actually laughed at the situation. When one of the parents got physical, there were no staff in sight to intervene—except the one who thought it was funny and openly said, “Don’t worry, we’ll get him off the track,” referring to a member of my party who was just trying to understand why two yellow flags had been waved. I ended up taking my overalls, helmet, etc off and removing myself from the race because of how threatened I felt, and how biased the staff were. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. If you’re looking for a fun, safe time karting (which we thought we were in for), do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.
