You can take the blue microlet "12" to get here from the town centre. Entrance is free and its surroundings are perfect for local hangouts and just to relax. The hike up is relatively short and should take around 10-15 mins but the views along the way are amazing. Once you get to the top, there's a hidden path out of bounds that allow you to view Dili from Cristo Rei without much obstruction.
One of the best places to start on your first day with a good walk up the mountain. Beautiful scenery views. From the center take the small local bus microlete number twelve (blue ones) it cost 100 centavos or 1 dollar / person.
Easy hike up and shortcut way to the other side. Beach on the other side is much calmer, and nice to swim. A lot of runners nearby, and night time they sell fried fish and corn at the beach.
Great and manageable 30 minutes hike up! Steps were well maintained and went on a weekday noon and it wasn’t crowded. The side stairs goes to an empty beach which was nice. A must visit in Dili!
Beautiful viewpoint over Dili! The hike up is easy and totally worth it for the 360° views of the city and ocean. Go early morning or sunset.
Statue of Jesus Christ (Cristo Rei = Christ the King) overlooking the bay and city of Dili. You can take the stairs to walk up to the statue. The elevation gain is 100 meters. It's a truly nice spot for a long walk and also exercises. The sunset from the top is magical. You can also walk around the cape of Cristo Rei without hiking up. The new road is very nice.
494 steps via the new road. Lovely views near the top and of course at the top. Worthwhile pilgrimage with various stops and stations for reflection and contemplation. Walk either from the carpark or the new road, or best to go up on the new road and down the carpark path. Pro tip: go early to beat the humidity and watch the sunrise.
A nice tourist place that fills with locals. The statue is very majestic, and it's enjoyable to walk along the seaside.

What n brilliant museum! It tells the story of the Resistance in Timor-Leste well and thoroughly. A couple of my companions would have liked the boards to have English as their top language but, hey, this is their country and the Australian political system failed them for many years. At least now we the people of Australia, are doing a bit better. Many ex-pats living, working and helping here still. Come and see for yourself! Timor-Leste has everything a tourist could want, mountains, beaches, magnificent birds and nature, great hotels and one of the friendliest and poorest people in the world!
Worthwhile visit even at $5 per pax, especially if you want to know the history of this young country. Well presented. Not much on 2nd or 3rd floor. Probably easy to spend an hour here taking in all the historical facts.
A fundamental museum for learning about Timorese history. However, the narrative is highly personal and fails to encompass the plurality of stories, nor does it value women's participation in the struggle. I recommend complementing your visit by going to the National Chega Center.
Register and purchase a ticket at the entrance. Tickets are 0.25 for students (including international students), $1 for local adults, and $5 for foreigners. Photography and videography are not permitted in the exhibition halls, and also food and drinks. The exhibition is primarily composed of images, all annotated in Portuguese, Tetum, and English, though the font size in the latter two is a bit jarring. The main exhibition is on the first floor. There are some photos on the second floor, and it seems there was once a cafe in the lobby and balcony. The third floor is empty, just a place for staff to smoke. The visit lasts 1-2 hours and focuses on the museum's main theme, "The East Timor Struggle." This youngest country in Asia was founded not long ago, and most of its citizens have experienced it firsthand. The visit is quite somber, allowing us to overcome our grief while also discovering our country's rich culture and resources, especially its ethnic traditions and natural resources. 🎬2025.9.20
A place to learn more about the past. Information presented was clear and concise. Love the interactive screen which showcased an elder speaking to kids about the significance of the mountains. Truly a dark past for Timor-Leste and I have learned a lot here.
The museum showcases the Timorese struggles for independence during the times of Indonesian occupation. Entry was $5. Everything is mainly on the lower level with not much on 2nd and 3rd levels. The restaurant/cafe was closed. Photography is not allowed in most parts. One of a number of places in Dili that is good to combine and learn the history of Timor Leste.
Has detailed information in English on Timorese history from colonial occupation in 1500s to independence struggle against Indonesia. It’s not large but worth visiting. Entry fee is currently $5 for adults. My kids (2 and 4) were free.
Unknown part of history to most Europeans and Americans. Highly interesting IF you get an English-speaking guide because only a few signs below the exhibits are in English. 5 $ for tourists

Tais Market in Dili is a vibrant cultural hub, showcasing beautiful handwoven textiles and traditional crafts. It's the perfect place to find unique souvenirs and learn about Timor-Leste's rich heritage. Friendly vendors and a lively atmosphere make it a must-visit spot.
One of the places you need to visit while coming to Dili, Timor-Leste. This is the place where you can get various Tais, hand woven traditional fabrics made in different districts in Timor - Leste. It sells Tais in different sizes, patterns, colors and quality. The bigger the size and the more intricate the patterns, the more expensive it is. Besides Tais the fabrics, they also sell many souvenirs like pouches, bags, earring and accessories, hats, t-shirts, bracelets, keychains and more. The sellers are mostly friendly and they help you find the good one and explain the details of the Tais. Parking is available and you can explore the shops. The market is not too big, making it easy to see many sellers. They use US $ for the transaction. The price varies.. starting from $1 for bracelets, $5 for medium syal, $60-100 or more for more intricate Tais. It's not really that friendly for ♿️. Although it's mostly surface, but it has pebbles of the surfaces. I didn't know whether there's a toilet we can use here as I haven't tried to find and use one.
Timor Awakening 31 Amazing Race "Jogu furak tebes" Hard working locals creating beautiful products for souvenirs
A must-visit for all tourists in Timor-Leste! If you’re in Dili, don’t miss the chance to stop by "Tais Market". It’s the perfect place to find unique, handmade souvenirs crafted by local artisans. You’ll also discover some cultural treasures, including collectible heritage items like old Timorese and foreign currency. A great spot to experience local tradition and bring home something meaningful!
"Market Tais" is small, lovely and trying to keep a traditional craft alive. (Tais traditionally can be woven only by women. Tais can be for women, men, house decor, ceremonial adornment, etc.
I love the local crafts and I especially love traditional textiles. I found the market accidentally on my first morning here. Came back yesterday buy gifts. All the stalls are almost identical in stock. Smaller tais were USD2.50 to 7, not sure about the larger ones. Many other handicrafts too
Wonderful small market where local stitched fabrics are made and sold. Local owners, surrounded by children are friendly, welcoming and not harassing, just need to negotiate the prices, which are lower than the ones found in hotels and airport. Not to be missed

This cemetery is very different from what I am use too... The site seems to be at capacity and very difficult to navigate without walking over graves. Its hard to understand the massacre that occurred here.
Sad for ABRI indoneasia Army massacre here.
A very quiet place with not much info available on site,I guess I expected more as it is such an important site, trying to walk through is hard as the tracks stop and you find yourself on a grave.A colourful cemetery indeed.
A place full of memories. Here you can find the Sebastião Tomb.
This cemetery is very historical place. 1993 massacre of students happened here.
It is now full capacity. Sudah full

Still remember this church.. my home only 3 minutes from this church.. so sad to remember my childhood separate from Timor Leste because of war 1998.. hope some day I can go back to Timor Leste..
very clean and beautiful. I just parked and walked in, no one bothered or asked me anything. nice experience.
Dili cathedral which is the highlight, also the largest in the country. Nice outdoor area for people to sit around or to take photos. The inside is very spacious and service is held in Tetun. Microlets go past this cathedral regularly during the day.
Spacious and clean inside the church. Big fans and windows guarantee air flow and helps with the hot Dili weather. Car parking available inside the church's grounds. Becomes very crowded on special days (e.g. Christmas mass). Green grass gives a fresh and colourful look to the church, differentiating from other churches in town.
The main Roman Catholic Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Dili. It's a fairly modern cathedral which was consecrated in 1988 and it was blest by Pope John Paul II in 1989.
Nice, modern cathedral with attractive glasswork and gardens.
Good service, clean and good environment

Very cool place showcasing Timorese artist. Worth visiting.
Wonderful small art gallery near a school. They have something to suit anyone and you can buy a painting direct from the artist. I love the small watercolour of a parrot I bought from the artist!
A fantastic little space full of wonderful artwork to admire, and buy. They got evicted of a much more elaborate art space that also included music and dance. Do come and support the community, talk to the very friendly artists, buy a postcard, and help spread the word so that they can keep up their amazing work and hopefully one day they can continue where they left off! The artwork itself is mesmerising. The artists combine traditional materials and themes with nature elements and their history of resistance times. The google maps location is correct, the entrance lies into the south-west.
A Beautiful and creative art space showcasing the amazing artwork of Timorese artist. Well worth the visit!!
Groovy place hidden in an old airfield. Art workshop in the is control Tower
Fun place. Come check it out.
Wonderful little artist studio. Very friendly. Good prices.
The place has changed, but the program is still going. I loved the passion of the young artists and their ingenuity to make art with limited supplies.

One of the best and cleanest beaches on Timor. Water is crystal clear, tides are mild, sand is white. The main entrance is closed but you can enter from the east side (closer to Dilicious bar)
One of the best known beaches in Timor-Leste. It was a popular spot with UN peacekeepers during the early 2000s. Locals would charge them $1 to access the beach. Entry is now free but the beach is closed with the gate locked and facilities (toilets, pools, etc) out of action. There is no timeline for when the beach will reopen, but it can be accessed by walking around the walls by the beach. The towers are a novel feature, offering good views and shade, but along with the barbed wire topped perimeter wall, make it feel more like a prison camp than a beachside resort. There is good snorkelling here. The beach is part of the large Subaun Important Bird Area which stretches for ~60,000 acres to Mt Curi.
Timor Leste is a hard country to visit. It doesn't have the infrastructure needed to promote tourism. As a result, there are very few visitors to the country. The plus side for those that can visit is the beaches near the vicinity of Dili are never crowded. That's especially true for one dollar beach. The sand is white, the sunshine is warm, the crowds are absent, and the water is clear. Highly recommend.
Beautiful place. Don't worry about some negative comments. Absolutely worth visiting!
The beach itself is a beautiful blue with lovely sand but the closer to the road you walk the sand turns dirty. There are toilet facilities but they are not for the faint of heart! There are high huts built along the beach (for whale watching?) and a thong shaped pool which has been neglected and has no water.
Beautiful scenery, great place for pics. Not much in the way of shade or a comfortable place to sit/relax.
White sandy beach, clear water. Almost always quiet. Feel like you own the beach!
Water crystal clear n warm. Sand white n soft. Seashell just beautiful. It's a really nice beach but unfortunately the cows were free to pop on the sand. The facilities were there but was not working (post Covid-19)

Perfect place for an outdoor calisthenics workout. There are pull-up and dip bars. Basketball court and soccer field are nearby. Treat yourself to swim in the water afterwards. Plenty of fruit and coconuts vendors past the basketball court.
Fresh air. Large public space. I suggest all people who visit here put garbages in the proper place
A prayer site for those who are Catholic and has a mini garden to walk through it
Best place for a walk at sunset with fresh coconut for 50 cents
Heart of the city, runners, peddlers and street sellers coincide here. No nice bars to enjoy the sunset.
It's a great place to get fresh air. I really love this place.
Comunity's homestay-Jhoky
It's a nice stretch of parkland which is fairly well-maintained. There is a lot more food and drink for sale than their used to be. It's nice and shaded and good for afternoon walks or jogs.

if you’re interested in reading about the history of TL and the independence and occupations, this is a fantastic library. the books are reference (can’t be checked out) but it’s an incredible collection. in Portuguese and English and some Indonesian. the art gallery is ok (can give donations) but the library is the prize here. friendly staff and the place was full of regular people working reading and using the computer. enter in front and walk around back for the entrances to the rooms.
This is a good place to learn about history of Timor Leste. I visited on a weekday during my lunchbreak and one of the staff gave me a tour of the various rooms. There was room of various paintings including many portraits of Xanana Gusmão and some done by himself. Another room had many photographs and documents and other items from Xanana Gusmão. Then i visited both the main library and the children's library. The librarian gave me a tour and explanation of both. There is cultural dance centre on the premises. One weekend i saw some youth performing some dances.
Moderately interesting public library (a rarity in Timor-Leste) established by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão. It has a well used reading room, a children's room, and a range of Xanana Gusmão memorabilia and awards. When I visited in April 2024 the original building, a colonial era villa, was undergoing restoration work paid for by the Japanese. Work should be completed by the end of 2024.
Small collection of Xanana material, friendly volunteers are happy to show you around, there is a library and some WW2 Australian/Timorese history. Feel free to make a donation to help with costs.
Cool and quiet. Three seperate buildings onsite; 1. Xanana Gusmao Museum up the white stairs in white building at entrance; 2. Library and Reading Room at right rear (behind covered outdoor seating area) and 3. On the left hand-side of this building is the Childrens Library. The volunteer guides are the stand-out feature...so welcoming and helpful...good English spoken, making it a delight to ask questions about local culture, using the Reference books as a guide. Very centrally located close to the beachfront. Thank you again to the kind and welcoming volunteers! (Visitor from Australia)
Small museum with paintings and medals. Some information about the WWII - same posters that you can find in Dale memorial
