You have an option to walk up the hill, drive your own car, or use a tourist bus. It's a long way up.
Convento da Penha in Vila Velha is a truly magical place! Perched on top of a hill, the views from the convent are absolutely breathtaking, offering a panoramic look over the city and the coastline. The peaceful atmosphere, rich history, and beautiful colonial architecture make it a perfect spot for reflection and admiration. The walk up is worth every step, and the surrounding nature adds even more charm. Whether you’re visiting for spiritual reasons or sightseeing, this iconic landmark is a must-see in Espírito Santo.
I visited the Convento da Penha with my students on a field class: the experience was unforgettable. We chose to walk up the historic stone path, retracing the steps of countless pilgrims over the centuries. The climb itself is part of the experience — surrounded by nature, history, and silence; it feels like a journey back in time. I found the symbolic meaning of the ascent deeply inspiring and, once at the top, the view and the atmosphere make it all worthwhile. A must-see landmark for those interested in culture, history, and spirituality. I recommend going up the penitence road and going down the common path.
Excellent views of Vitoria from the top. There is a a small shuttle service that takes you up to the base of the Convent (please note it’s a little extra on your ticket price but it is still very cheap). For those who like to walk it’s a decent mini hike uphill via the same road the shuttle goes. They have toilets at the top as well.
The Penha Convent's viewpoint is beautiful, offering incredible views of Vitória and Vila Velha. Access from Vitória is via a small boat that leaves from the Aquaviário Terminal in Praça do Papa (Papa Square) and is very inexpensive (less than R$5). The trip to Prainha Park is very quick. From the terminal, walk to Vasco Coutinho Street, to the Penha Convent entrance. You can walk, take a van, or take a "jardineira" (bus) to the convent. From the foot of the convent, there's a ramp up; then there are many stairs. But it's worth it, as the view is wonderful. The Nossa Senhora da Penha Church is small but very beautiful.
Lovely cluster of religious buildings at the top of the hill in Vila Velha. Check the closing times for the day you are going and give yourself plenty of time for the convent and surrounding viewpoints. The panoramic views are stunning and the walk down from the convent is like walking through a (well paved) jungle. There is a minibus service from the entrance to the top if you want to avoid the climb. Definitely go see it when visiting Vitória.
I have visited the Convento da Penha 3 times. This place holds a lot of history, mostly religious, but the view is breathtaking. You will be able to see the famous 3th Bridge and part of Ilha do Boi ( Island) and the Porto Tubarao. Also parte of Vila Velha and vitoria downtown. People are very friendly, and you can walk up to the Convento or have private ground transportation for R$ 6 reais, which is about $1:50 dollars.
A very beautiful view of both cities Vitoria and Vila Velha. We opted to go up there by walking, but you can go by car. The convent is on top of a mountain and it is surrounded by the Atlantic Forest. The view from up there is amazing. I do recommend it.

Beaches
Costa Beach covers a rugged headland bounded by sheltered coves and swimming spots, with fishing, diving, and whale-watching around small offshore islands. Popular viewpoints like the Morro do Moreno hilltop and Santa Luzia Lighthouse, an iron landmark from the 1870s, overlook Vitória Bay. Snack kiosks and outdoor bars dot the busy beachfronts below, while more upscale restaurants specialize in grilled seafood.

Worth it. Views are awesome. Start at 5:30 am to catch the sunrise around 6. Yes the road is steep and eroded, but still passable.
A fairly short but sweaty walk will get you to the top of this hill and you will be rewarded with beautiful views, especially when the sun is going down. Never go alone and only go on a weekend when it's busy. Apparently people get robbed quite regularly going up.
It's not too long of a hike but it's a very steep and has a lot of a rosian on the trail but the view at the top is wonderful
Fun place to hike to and get great views of the city. Very steep and be very careful!
Spectacular views of Vila Velha and Vitoria from the top. Be sure to buy a popsicle from the vendor near the tippy top.
A 30-minute hike for the most scenic views of Vitoria and Vila Velha that you can possibly get.
It's a great hiking trail to do even without hiking experience. My husband and I hiked up this in flip flops and it took us about 30 minutes. The view from the top is INCREDIBLE!!! I highly recommend anyone living around this area to come do the trail because it's worth it.
It's a great place to have both: sightseeing and cardio. The main road is an easier way to get to the top, but if you are up for the chalenge, you could have a go at the trail in the middle of the woods. From the top of the hill, the 360 degrees view of the city is stunning, a great reward after breaking some sweat.

(Translated by Google) The best beach in the central region of Vila Velha. I consider it better than Praia da Costa because it is less crowded, and better than Praia de Itaparica because there is less noise (from the kiosks). In addition, the water is calm in between, not too calm like Praia da Sereia (at the end of Praia da Costa), and not too rough like Praia de Itaparica. There is a boardwalk that is very popular for physical activities, which is completed with some equipment on the sand. The sand is golden with relatively large grains. I would just like to warn you that the sea is a little deep and has strong waves. Great place to spend the evening, take some pictures, see the sunset and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Vitoria is a major eastcoast port for South America and the 3rd largest in Brasil. This museum details the historical significance of that position to the development of the local region. The museum's story also is a guide to Vitoria's connection with other Brasilian states where raw industrial materials are unearthed such as Minas Gerais where iron ore to gold produced millions of tons among other mined commodities. The development of industrial railway systems was key to the success of these enterprises & the Museum's entire 3rd floor is devoted to a massive large scale model of industrial rail operations. The museum grounds provide a panoramic view of Downtown Vitoria across the Bay with a full view of the active working harbor.
Pleasant museum in picturesque surroundings. The main drawback is accessability. Unless you have a car it is hard to find. Get a bus to Vila Velha bus station and hire a taxi to the museum which is a long walk otherwise.
This place is worthy visiting. There is a parking lot, restaurant and a bit of state history. Easy to spend 2 to 3 hours.
Place is good for tourist and for taking pictures and enjoying the day.

A nice urban beach in Vila Velha, just close to the capital, Vitoria. It is a nice place to bring the whole family and enjoy a sunny day.
Nice and calm. Good for chill, fishing and eat
Still one of the best urban beaches in the whole country - clean water and safe for kids, with lots of fun year-round. Sometimes you can even spot the eventual sea turtle or family of dolphins swimming near the shore.
Wonderful place for people with disabilities, elderly. There us a team from the local municipality who helps us going to the beach and swimming. Good work. Well done
Clean, organized, free Wi-Fi and plenty of vendors along the seaboard. Hungry? Thirsty? No problem! Plenty to choose from and always accompanied by the friendly capixaba service. Visit it. You won't regret it.
Very nice place to stay and to eat. The price of the food on the stands located on the sidewalk along the beach are not so steep.

(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed the experience. I love learning about the history of the companies and products I consume. I really liked the entrance with the cocoa trees full of fruit. It was very beautiful to see. It was also very nostalgic to see the old packaging inside the museum. However, I found the museum quite small, and the tour was quite short. With such a history, the museum could be a bit larger, perhaps accommodating more visitors per visit. Most importantly, the experience was hampered by the noise of the construction work, even with headphones. I could clearly hear the guide's narration through the headphones, which was great. But the noise was still very noticeable and disrupted the entire experience. Therefore, it ended up leaving something to be desired. Our guide was very knowledgeable and professional. It was a pleasant and interesting tour, and we even got chocolates. I highly recommend bringing children; they'll love the tour and the experience. I'm just not sure if there are times when the tour might be quieter, lol. Logo, acabou deixando a desejar.
(Translated by Google) I loved the tour, which is in the museum that tells the story of chocolate and of course the company, all very well explained by the guide Camila. I understand that many complain about the high prices in the stores compared to general commerce, but then comes the question: "Will the chocolate there make a difference compared to general commerce?", it's just chocolate! lol It's a shame that you can't go inside the factory, but it was explained that the visit was suspended due to Covid, and from 2024 until now the factory is undergoing maintenance, those who saw the model can imagine the size. Now we wait for the factory floor to be opened for visitation, I recommend that you be aware of the information described.

Right from the start, you can see the care taken with every detail and the concern for preserving the history of one of Brazil's most beloved brands. The explanation of how it all began, from the first chocolates produced to the company's expansion, is clear, interesting, and educational. The museum is one of the highlights, allowing us to relive the past and understand Garoto's successful trajectory over the decades. The organization of the place also deserves praise. The store is very well structured, with a variety of products and a pleasant atmosphere, making the visit even more enjoyable. You can feel the care and dedication of the professionals in keeping the brand's tradition alive. As an area for improvement, the tour could be a little longer, allowing visitors more time to take photos and capture special moments. Furthermore, it would be very interesting to reopen access to the factory, which has always been the highlight of the visit, providing a unique experience of seeing the chocolate production process up close. Despite these details, a visit is highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about the history and flavor of Garoto. God bless you “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Salmos 37:4

It includes the history of the brand… And at the end, the visit concludes at the Garoto store… prepare your wallet because the purchase is irresistible. (Original) Experiência muito interessante. Lovely place, loads of animals for the kids. They should open the swimming pool early in the morning as it makes no sense to open it after lunch. The restaurant staff were very kind, the food was delicious.

A copy of a beautiful letter that his friend Juscelino Kubitcheck sent him. Massena's creativity in drawing branches to disguise the cracks in his house, caused by the humidity of living near the sea. Very beautiful.

I was greeted by a super talented young lady and we could see her interest in Homer Massena himself. As a native of Minas Gerais, I saw many paintings that reminded me of my home and the homes of my relatives in the countryside! Such great nostalgia!
