Lookouts
Morro do Moreno, located in Vila Velha, is a popular hiking and photography destination. Rising 274 meters above sea level, it offers stunning panoramic views of the bays and skyline of Vitoria. The hill is named after Joao Moreno, an early settler in the region. Visitors can enjoy relatively easy access to the trails and a relatively short hike that takes about two to three hours round trip.
Worth it. Views are awesome. Start at 5:30 am to catch the sunrise around 6. Yes the road is steep and eroded, but still passable.
Stefan H — Google review
A fairly short but sweaty walk will get you to the top of this hill and you will be rewarded with beautiful views, especially when the sun is going down. Never go alone and only go on a weekend when it's busy. Apparently people get robbed quite regularly going up.
Denise K — Google review
It's not too long of a hike but it's a very steep and has a lot of a rosian on the trail but the view at the top is wonderful
Steven M — Google review
Fun place to hike to and get great views of the city. Very steep and be very careful!
Jose ( — Google review
Spectacular views of Vila Velha and Vitoria from the top. Be sure to buy a popsicle from the vendor near the tippy top.
Christopher M — Google review
A 30-minute hike for the most scenic views of Vitoria and Vila Velha that you can possibly get.
Fellipe P — Google review
It's a great hiking trail to do even without hiking experience. My husband and I hiked up this in flip flops and it took us about 30 minutes. The view from the top is INCREDIBLE!!! I highly recommend anyone living around this area to come do the trail because it's worth it.

Perched atop the Morro da Penha, Convento da Penha is a 16th-century mountaintop convent with stunning city views and a rich history. Founded in 1558, it features a religious museum and hosts community events. The construction of the convent began in 1639 and was completed over time, with contributions from devoted individuals, indigenous people, and African slaves.
You have an option to walk up the hill, drive your own car, or use a tourist bus. It's a long way up.
Welington C — Google review
Convento da Penha in Vila Velha is a truly magical place! Perched on top of a hill, the views from the convent are absolutely breathtaking, offering a panoramic look over the city and the coastline. The peaceful atmosphere, rich history, and beautiful colonial architecture make it a perfect spot for reflection and admiration. The walk up is worth every step, and the surrounding nature adds even more charm. Whether you’re visiting for spiritual reasons or sightseeing, this iconic landmark is a must-see in Espírito Santo.
Arto L — Google review
I visited the Convento da Penha with my students on a field class: the experience was unforgettable. We chose to walk up the historic stone path, retracing the steps of countless pilgrims over the centuries. The climb itself is part of the experience — surrounded by nature, history, and silence; it feels like a journey back in time. I found the symbolic meaning of the ascent deeply inspiring and, once at the top, the view and the atmosphere make it all worthwhile. A must-see landmark for those interested in culture, history, and spirituality. I recommend going up the penitence road and going down the common path.
Francis R — Google review
Excellent views of Vitoria from the top. There is a a small shuttle service that takes you up to the base of the Convent (please note it’s a little extra on your ticket price but it is still very cheap). For those who like to walk it’s a decent mini hike uphill via the same road the shuttle goes. They have toilets at the top as well.
Sanjay J — Google review
The Penha Convent's viewpoint is beautiful, offering incredible views of Vitória and Vila Velha. Access from Vitória is via a small boat that leaves from the Aquaviário Terminal in Praça do Papa (Papa Square) and is very inexpensive (less than R$5). The trip to Prainha Park is very quick. From the terminal, walk to Vasco Coutinho Street, to the Penha Convent entrance. You can walk, take a van, or take a "jardineira" (bus) to the convent. From the foot of the convent, there's a ramp up; then there are many stairs. But it's worth it, as the view is wonderful. The Nossa Senhora da Penha Church is small but very beautiful.
Doris F — Google review
Lovely cluster of religious buildings at the top of the hill in Vila Velha. Check the closing times for the day you are going and give yourself plenty of time for the convent and surrounding viewpoints. The panoramic views are stunning and the walk down from the convent is like walking through a (well paved) jungle. There is a minibus service from the entrance to the top if you want to avoid the climb. Definitely go see it when visiting Vitória.
Jordan — Google review
I have visited the Convento da Penha 3 times. This place holds a lot of history, mostly religious, but the view is breathtaking. You will be able to see the famous 3th Bridge and part of Ilha do Boi ( Island) and the Porto Tubarao. Also parte of Vila Velha and vitoria downtown. People are very friendly, and you can walk up to the Convento or have private ground transportation for R$ 6 reais, which is about $1:50 dollars.
Lilly S — Google review
A very beautiful view of both cities Vitoria and Vila Velha. We opted to go up there by walking, but you can go by car. The convent is on top of a mountain and it is surrounded by the Atlantic Forest. The view from up there is amazing. I do recommend it.

Lighthouse Santa Luzia, located at the entrance to Victoria Bay in Vila Velha, is a 12-meter tall octagonal iron structure built in 1870. Originating from Glasgow, Scotland, it was shipped to Brazil in the late 19th century due to the hazardous nature of Victoria Bay with its sandbanks and rocks. Following recent renovations, this lighthouse has become a popular tourist attraction offering stunning views of the bay entrance.

(Translated by Google) The Garoto store offers the opportunity to purchase their delicious chocolates. Prices are practically the same as in the supermarket. For those with more time, there's a paid tour (not in the factory) lasting about 40 minutes. In three or four rooms, a guide details the entire process, from cocoa production to manufacturing and the evolution of packaging over the years. It's an interesting tour and recommended for those in no rush. (Translated by Google) An incredible experience is visiting the Garoto Chocolate Museum... The museum tour is very well guided and tells the story of Garoto, even before it was the "Garoto" we know. Fascinating. My fond memories were awakened by seeing those chocolates from my childhood, which no longer exist. The shop, at the exit of the museum, is a delight to the eyes, but unfortunately not very inviting. They could offer a different price, since it's a factory store after all. Chocolate bars are better purchased at Lojas Americanas. As for the bonbons and chocolates, given the weight, if you don't overdo it, they're worth it.
(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed the experience. I love learning about the history of the companies and products I consume. I really liked the entrance with the cocoa trees full of fruit. It was very beautiful to see. It was also very nostalgic to see the old packaging inside the museum. However, I found the museum quite small, and the tour was quite short. With such a history, the museum could be a bit larger, perhaps accommodating more visitors per visit. Most importantly, the experience was hampered by the noise of the construction work, even with headphones. I could clearly hear the guide's narration through the headphones, which was great. But the noise was still very noticeable and disrupted the entire experience. Therefore, it ended up leaving something to be desired. Our guide was very knowledgeable and professional. It was a pleasant and interesting tour, and we even got chocolates. I highly recommend bringing children; they'll love the tour and the experience. I'm just not sure if there are times when the tour might be quieter, lol. Logo, acabou deixando a desejar.

(Translated by Google) The items in the store aren't cheaper than those in partner stores, and you buy 1kg of chocolate and get 2 bags (if you want more, you buy them separately). The museum is small, but it explains the history of chocolate and the factory well. And at the end, you get a small box with 4 chocolates. Praia da Barra do Jucu, located about 10 kilometers away from the city center and away from the hustle and bustle, is an old fishing village that still retains its rustic charm. The semi-deserted beach has minimal infrastructure, with clear waters that can turn darker in some areas due to the meeting of the sea with the Jucu River. The area offers a nice trail providing access to another beach with stronger waves but unique beauty.

Praia da Costa is a stunning palm-lined beach with golden sands and clear waters, perfect for a day of sun-soaked relaxation or family fun. It's recommended to visit after 5pm to avoid the intense sun, but if you prefer sunshine, around 3pm is ideal. The left end of the beach has calmer tides, making it suitable for kids.
one of the most beautiful beaches to live near. At the weekend there are local food and food fairs. There is church, school, bakery, pharmacy and market nearby. Do not miss to know the beautiful music school "Estudio Suzuki da Grande Vitória", with good teachers and good music.
Priscila A — Google review
Amazing beach and sports area. Very good job on cleaning as well. Adversely the “calcadao” pavement quality is terrible and unsafe for runners and elderly people.
Antonino F — Google review
Best time to go is after 5pm when the sun won't burn you alive. If you want sun then around 3pm is wise to go. More to the left of the beach near the end the tides are calmer + good for kids yet until 4pm it's an ants ville and to find a spot is difficult during weekends. During the whole week they sell popsicles for 1 or 2 reais and most don't have change so keep that in mind. On weekends you'll also find people selling: pao de queijo, pastel, seafood, bbq and more on the beach. They pass by you and ask if you're interested. Up to you to judge to eat but I advice you not to because they're fried and you never know how long they've tried to sell it... walking day in and out in the hot sun. The bars and restaurants are nice to drink, eat up to you again. They have different sports on the beach which is fun but they're fixed groups and outsiders aren't allowed to join unless you know how to play or know someone playing. Depending on the team they'll let you participate if you ask nicely. This beach is visited a lot by gays and families. So don't go with the intention of "trying things out" because it's a respected beach. Just do NOT walk there before 5am and after 22.30 pm, it's common logic why not independently of the country. Except that, I'd advice you to take your chair, parasol, food and drinks and a lot of sunlotion because you'll enjoy that you'll forget the time. If you happened to forget all of that, then they provide just make sure you have enough money and change and you'll have a great day there! Ps: after 4pm they put up small tents where they sell handmake stuff so that's insteresting for tourists. Enjoy!

Praia de Itapoã and Praia da Costa are two neighboring beaches located on the urban coast of Vila Velha, offering a picturesque seaside promenade. These beaches are considered hidden gems amidst the long and stunning coastline near Vitoria, largely unaffected by nearby mining activities. Visitors can enjoy the serene atmosphere, with opportunities to relax on the sandy shores or take leisurely strolls along the beachfront walkway.
Shh! Don't tell anyone unless they are VIPs. This is one of the gems of the long and beautiful beaches near to Vitória where much is damaged by nearby VALE mining company activities. (Always be aware of the locally- posted water/beach conditions as the tides change and human sewage can make swimming dangerous from day-to-day.) Itapoã is usually impervious to these variations

My husband grew up on this beach. Love watching the futevôlei games, drinking coconut water, and watching the peaceful ocean waves. Amo Brazil!

Lovely beach. I just hate the plastic furniture all over from all the restaurants. And all the restaurants sell the same thing.

Local history museum
The Casa da Memória de Vila Velha is a small regional museum that chronicles the history of the area from its founding by Vasco Fernandes Coutinho to its development as the seat of Espirito Santo State. It covers various periods, including the slaveholding era and the industrial phases of today. The museum features a scaled replica of Coutinho's Sant Maria ship and an outdoor trolley.

This little gem of a Museum offered a concise 'historic ethnographic summary' for an overview of local history and it's significance to Brasil's development. In the early 1500's a young Vasco Fernandes Coutinho was one of 12 ship captain's who bravely sailed to the NEW land known as Brasil. A scale model of his 1535 ship, the Santa Maria is on display. For his successes, he was awarded Captaincy of Espirito Santos hence establishing first Vila Vehla, then Vitoria as Capitals of the new state by 1551. The Casa da Memoria Museum is supported by the City of Vila Vehla, covers difficult early years, features African artifacts & a gruesome display of instruments created for slave suppression & punishment. The region's evolution & current status as a major port and shipping center is highlighted in this smallish, but highly well-structured Museum. An early 19th century trolley sits well-preserved, on the property. The helpful staff is ready with information and a schedule of local cultural events.
Henry H — Google review
It is a small museum with the Brazil's colonization history. It is possible to learn a lot about the Holy Spirit State's history and about their "heros" Vasco Coutinho and her brave wife. Worth a visit.

Beach
Praia do Ribeiro is a small city beach nestled amidst towering highrises and lush trees, creating a picturesque setting. This bucolic enclave has been documented as a mooring spot for boats since the early 1500s. It's now primarily used by fishing boats and serves as a departure and arrival point for them. While not suitable for swimming, it offers tranquility and an opportunity to admire the view while sitting under the shade of chestnut trees.
Beautiful and quiet place.
Bruno N — Google review
It seems a beach for boats only. Though the view is nice, it is better to go there if you want to get on a boat, or just walking around as we did.
Rodrigo G — Google review
The place is a very bucolic enclave, with beautiful and centenary trees. But it is not a bathing beach, and it never intended to be (at least in the last 2 or 3 centuries). Incidentally, the site appears in the first cartographic surveys of the old Espirito Santo Captaincy, from around 1500. It was already described as a place for mooring boats. In the last many decades it became a fishing boat mooring, similar to Prainha at Vila Velha City Center. And as such, it is in fact quite dirty and generally fishy smelling. Even so, it is beautiful and worth a quick stop early in the morning or late in the afternoon. One day, who knows, those fishing boats will find another place to anchor, and the place will return to being a beach, as it once was (200 to 300 years ago! kkkk).

(Translated by Google) The location is excellent for those seeking a beautiful setting for photos, photo shoots, or nature contemplation. The view is truly breathtaking and makes for great photos. Although the water isn't suitable for swimming, the scenery makes up for it; it's a place worth visiting for the views and tranquility. A plus is its proximity to Bananal Beach, which is right next door. Depending on the time of year, you can swim there, allowing you to visit both beaches on the same day and enjoy your trip even more. A destination that pairs well with those seeking nature, tranquility, and beautiful images to save or share.
