Perched atop the Morro da Penha, Convento da Penha is a 16th-century mountaintop convent with stunning city views and a rich history. Founded in 1558, it features a religious museum and hosts community events. The construction of the convent began in 1639 and was completed over time, with contributions from devoted individuals, indigenous people, and African slaves.
You have an option to walk up the hill, drive your own car, or use a tourist bus. It's a long way up.

Convento da Penha in Vila Velha is a truly magical place! Perched on top of a hill, the views from the convent are absolutely breathtaking, offering a panoramic look over the city and the coastline. The peaceful atmosphere, rich history, and beautiful colonial architecture make it a perfect spot for reflection and admiration. The walk up is worth every step, and the surrounding nature adds even more charm. Whether you’re visiting for spiritual reasons or sightseeing, this iconic landmark is a must-see in Espírito Santo.
Arto L — Google review
I visited the Convento da Penha with my students on a field class: the experience was unforgettable. We chose to walk up the historic stone path, retracing the steps of countless pilgrims over the centuries. The climb itself is part of the experience — surrounded by nature, history, and silence; it feels like a journey back in time. I found the symbolic meaning of the ascent deeply inspiring and, once at the top, the view and the atmosphere make it all worthwhile. A must-see landmark for those interested in culture, history, and spirituality. I recommend going up the penitence road and going down the common path.
Francis R — Google review
Excellent views of Vitoria from the top. There is a a small shuttle service that takes you up to the base of the Convent (please note it’s a little extra on your ticket price but it is still very cheap). For those who like to walk it’s a decent mini hike uphill via the same road the shuttle goes. They have toilets at the top as well.
Sanjay J — Google review
The Penha Convent's viewpoint is beautiful, offering incredible views of Vitória and Vila Velha. Access from Vitória is via a small boat that leaves from the Aquaviário Terminal in Praça do Papa (Papa Square) and is very inexpensive (less than R$5). The trip to Prainha Park is very quick. From the terminal, walk to Vasco Coutinho Street, to the Penha Convent entrance. You can walk, take a van, or take a "jardineira" (bus) to the convent. From the foot of the convent, there's a ramp up; then there are many stairs. But it's worth it, as the view is wonderful. The Nossa Senhora da Penha Church is small but very beautiful.
Doris F — Google review
Lovely cluster of religious buildings at the top of the hill in Vila Velha. Check the closing times for the day you are going and give yourself plenty of time for the convent and surrounding viewpoints. The panoramic views are stunning and the walk down from the convent is like walking through a (well paved) jungle. There is a minibus service from the entrance to the top if you want to avoid the climb. Definitely go see it when visiting Vitória.
Jordan — Google review
I have visited the Convento da Penha 3 times. This place holds a lot of history, mostly religious, but the view is breathtaking. You will be able to see the famous 3th Bridge and part of Ilha do Boi ( Island) and the Porto Tubarao. Also parte of Vila Velha and vitoria downtown. People are very friendly, and you can walk up to the Convento or have private ground transportation for R$ 6 reais, which is about $1:50 dollars.
Lilly S — Google review
A very beautiful view of both cities Vitoria and Vila Velha. We opted to go up there by walking, but you can go by car. The convent is on top of a mountain and it is surrounded by the Atlantic Forest. The view from up there is amazing. I do recommend it.

Lookouts
Morro do Moreno, located in Vila Velha, is a popular hiking and photography destination. Rising 274 meters above sea level, it offers stunning panoramic views of the bays and skyline of Vitoria. The hill is named after Joao Moreno, an early settler in the region. Visitors can enjoy relatively easy access to the trails and a relatively short hike that takes about two to three hours round trip.
Worth it. Views are awesome. Start at 5:30 am to catch the sunrise around 6. Yes the road is steep and eroded, but still passable.
Stefan H — Google review
A fairly short but sweaty walk will get you to the top of this hill and you will be rewarded with beautiful views, especially when the sun is going down. Never go alone and only go on a weekend when it's busy. Apparently people get robbed quite regularly going up.
Denise K — Google review
It's not too long of a hike but it's a very steep and has a lot of a rosian on the trail but the view at the top is wonderful
Steven M — Google review
Fun place to hike to and get great views of the city. Very steep and be very careful!
Jose ( — Google review
Spectacular views of Vila Velha and Vitoria from the top. Be sure to buy a popsicle from the vendor near the tippy top.
Christopher M — Google review
A 30-minute hike for the most scenic views of Vitoria and Vila Velha that you can possibly get.
Fellipe P — Google review
It's a great hiking trail to do even without hiking experience. My husband and I hiked up this in flip flops and it took us about 30 minutes. The view from the top is INCREDIBLE!!! I highly recommend anyone living around this area to come do the trail because it's worth it.
Anya A — Google review
It's a great place to have both: sightseeing and cardio. The main road is an easier way to get to the top, but if you are up for the chalenge, you could have a go at the trail in the middle of the woods. From the top of the hill, the 360 degrees view of the city is stunning, a great reward after breaking some sweat.

(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed the experience. I love learning about the history of the companies and products I consume. I really liked the entrance with the cocoa trees full of fruit. It was very beautiful to see. It was also very nostalgic to see the old packaging inside the museum. However, I found the museum quite small, and the tour was quite short. With such a history, the museum could be a bit larger, perhaps accommodating more visitors per visit. Most importantly, the experience was hampered by the noise of the construction work, even with headphones. I could clearly hear the guide's narration through the headphones, which was great. But the noise was still very noticeable and disrupted the entire experience. Therefore, it ended up leaving something to be desired. Our guide was very knowledgeable and professional. It was a pleasant and interesting tour, and we even got chocolates. I highly recommend bringing children; they'll love the tour and the experience. I'm just not sure if there are times when the tour might be quieter, lol. Logo, acabou deixando a desejar.

(Translated by Google) I loved the tour, which is in the museum that tells the story of chocolate and of course the company, all very well explained by the guide Camila. I understand that many complain about the high prices in the stores compared to general commerce, but then comes the question: "Will the chocolate there make a difference compared to general commerce?", it's just chocolate! lol It's a shame that you can't go inside the factory, but it was explained that the visit was suspended due to Covid, and from 2024 until now the factory is undergoing maintenance, those who saw the model can imagine the size. Now we wait for the factory floor to be opened for visitation, I recommend that you be aware of the information described.

(Translated by Google) The visit to the Garoto Chocolate Factory was a delightful and enriching experience. Right from the start, you can see the care taken with every detail and the concern for preserving the history of one of Brazil's most beloved brands. The explanation of how it all began, from the first chocolates produced to the company's expansion, is clear, interesting, and educational. The museum is one of the highlights, allowing us to relive the past and understand Garoto's successful trajectory over the decades. The organization of the place also deserves praise. The store is very well structured, with a variety of products and a pleasant atmosphere, making the visit even more enjoyable. You can feel the care and dedication of the professionals in keeping the brand's tradition alive. As an area for improvement, the tour could be a little longer, allowing visitors more time to take photos and capture special moments. Furthermore, it would be very interesting to reopen access to the factory, which has always been the highlight of the visit, providing a unique experience of seeing the chocolate production process up close. Despite these details, a visit is highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about the history and flavor of Garoto. God bless you “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Salmos 37:4

There is a boardwalk that is very popular for physical activities, which is completed with some equipment on the sand. The sand is golden with relatively large grains. The waters are cold, but very clean. It also has a beautiful view of the entire Costa beach and Morro do Moreno. It is a great place to take the family and children. I would just like to warn you that the sea is a little deep and has strong waves. Lighthouse Santa Luzia, located at the entrance to Victoria Bay in Vila Velha, is a 12-meter tall octagonal iron structure built in 1870. Originating from Glasgow, Scotland, it was shipped to Brazil in the late 19th century due to the hazardous nature of Victoria Bay with its sandbanks and rocks. Following recent renovations, this lighthouse has become a popular tourist attraction offering stunning views of the bay entrance.

You have access to Praia da Baleia, more for surfers, the shallow beach, good for swimming and children, being careful with the rocks and taking a (long) walk. You go to Praia da Sereia. There are not many bars and restaurants, the best is Cabana do Rock, the others are just for stopping for a beer or soda. There are almost no street vendors. I have been going there for over 25 years, it used to be better, the sea water has invaded the sand part, after 3 pm there is only water, it wasn't like this (but that's nature). The city government could help the castle's creator and turn the attraction into a tourist attraction. There could be a little train that takes tourists to the site. There could be performances inside the castle, as well as a themed restaurant and a souvenir shop. In short, there are many possibilities. It is worth visiting, even if it is just to take some photos. Praia da Sereia is at the northern end of Guarapari, bordering Vila Velha. It was named after a sculpture with the mythical figure of a mermaid on the beach. The sculpture was the way a businessman and resident found to honor his daughters and the local women. From the lookout, there is a panoramic view of the place consisting of coconut trees, rocks and calm sea that, at low tide, makes visible the famous coral pools. At the waterfront, simple tents sell snacks to visitors and locals. Waterfront Infrastructure: Bars and Tents Location: City boundary. Length: 1.5 Km

(Translated by Google) The brewery has a beautiful, modern structure and is in a good location. The draft beer is tap style, self-service, and there is no charge for card payments. There are several options for snacks and drinks - the meat and fries we had were plentiful and tasty. The beers are well priced and good - I liked the session IPA, super cold. The service could still be improved, but that must be because the place is new. The live music is good. The day I went it was very hot and they didn't turn on the fan inside.

(Translated by Google) A place with beautiful decor and a good location. The portion ordered that day was very tasty and well-served, with a fair price. The brewery is a tap-beer style and you serve your own beer. They don't have many styles, but the ones they do have are very good. The live music that day was very good, too bad they had to close it, lol. The service could improve a little.

(Translated by Google) If you need to buy a keg of draft beer, you need to live nearby. If you tell them a place that is far away, they won't even serve you or give you any explanation. Guarapari claims to have taken over the region, but it doesn't take responsibility for anything. It doesn't serve anyone, and when it does, it does poorly... To say that the service is terrible is to say nothing.

(Translated by Google) I really like the atmosphere. The owner is always attentive and friendly to customers. But every time I go back, there is something different. The menu is limited and constantly changing. The beer from the machine is not very cold. The last time I went, the experience was not good. When I arrived, there was live music playing. The band played two songs and stopped. When it started playing again, I was leaving. On the bill, they charged two couverts of 15.00 each. And they charged 10% for service, adding the consumption + couvert. I have never seen that in my life. A banda tocou duas musicas e parou. Quando voltou a tocar, eu estava saindo. Na conta cobraram dois couvert de 15,00 cada. E cobraram 10% no atendimento somando o consumo + couvert. Nunca vi isso na vida.

(Translated by Google) I went on a Tuesday night with my sister and boyfriend. The waiter told me that they were out of cassava, pork ribs, coxinha and shrimp, which greatly limited the appetizer options on the menu. I didn't like being charged as soon as I placed my order, and I also thought it was unnecessary to have to collect information such as my CPF to make a card to serve me a draft beer! Bureaucracy for nothing! After that, the card didn't work, and we had to make another card! Finally, after more than 20 minutes in the restaurant, I managed to have my first beer, and I had already paid for the food! In other words, I couldn't even give up on the experience!

You have to order and pay before consuming, you have to order drinks from one waiter and snacks from another, and the caipirinha is watery! 👎 I won't be back! Galveas Atelier is a must go, the beauty of the Barra do Jucu Village is fenomenal, it is a virgin place with secular traditions that has being passing through out the generations. Galveas, the artist, has a peculiar view of the surrounding world and in case that you seat to chat you’ll see farther than yesterday. His paintings are a joy for the eyes… You’ll learn something with Kleber. His work is wonderful and I acquired two “quadros” and it is in my home state Utah.
