Visiting the Ermida da Toxa, also known by various names such as Capela da Toxa, Capela de San Caralampio, or Ermida de San Sebastián, was an unforgettable experience. Located on the island of La Toja, this small chapel stands out immediately because of its unique exterior, entirely covered with scallop shells. These shells, a symbol of the Camino de Santiago, also represent protection and are historically linked to Galician maritime culture. The sight of the chapel’s bright white facade glistening under the sun, framed by lush gardens, was mesmerizing. Despite its modest size and simple interior, the chapel’s atmosphere felt deeply spiritual and peaceful. Learning about its historical significance, especially its connection to Saint Charalambos, the patron saint of skin diseases, added a layer of intrigue to my visit. The combination of natural beauty and historical depth made this visit remarkable
Ermida da Toxa is definitely worth a quick stop if you’re visiting La Toja. The outside is what makes it special—completely covered in seashells, it looks almost like something out of a fairytale. The inside is simple and small, nothing too flashy, but the charm really lies in its setting. There’s a lovely garden right in front where you can sit for a bit, and the sea is just steps away. La Toja itself is a peaceful and pretty island, perfect for a slow stroll or a relaxed afternoon.
Since it's off season in November and the beginning of rain seadon in Galicia, it was pretty much deserted. In season its worth visiting, if only to see the church covered in shells. The shells that are a symbol of St. James the Apostle, patron saint of Santiago. It took 10 years to accomplish this feature to preserve the church. Many shells are signed by tourists visiting the site.
Amazing and beautiful church with unique architecture; the most impressive is the seashell walls.
Beautiful place. And curious. In a gorgeous setting. Easy parking. Lovely park beside it. And ice cream/snack stand too! Great place to relax.
Visited this place after some rain canceled our other beach plans and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Luxurious local old money surrounds this small island of La Toxa and this little church transports you to the establishment of the community, based on fisherman and the sprung waters that lead to a healing spa and hotel couple of hundred years ago.
One of a kind little church covered with local shells, within a relaxing little park on the bay waters.

Museum of local famous soap production Worth to visit. Free entrance with free car park near by
There are some interesting boards where they explain the process of extracting the salts from the water, using consecutive boilers at low pressure. Besides, you can find a lot of soaps and creams of La Toja brand.
Worth visiting as they make some great products from the thermal waters including therapeutic soaps and skin creams, shower gels, shaving creams etc. Was originally family owned but now owners are German multinational Henkel whose Head Office is in Barcelona.
Small and interesting museum about the history of famous brand. Also, there is a small shop to purchase soaps and skin creams, shower gels, shaving creams, and other beauty products.

(Translated by Google) We were in La Toja last week and happened upon this orujo and wine stand (SABORES GALLEGOS) by chance. It's run by a very nice and friendly guy. My wife was drawn to it because she was crocheting. From the very first moment, the treatment with Gonzalo (that's his name) was unbeatable. He was very attentive and pleasant. He treated us very well and gave us a thumbs up for several orujo cream drinks. They were all really good, so I bought several bottles to bring back for the family to try. My wife was craving the pâtés and brought some for the family to try, and both the orujo cream and the pâtés were all very good. He also signed us up for a raffle that usually takes place at the end of each month, and we could win a prize. Overall, we were really happy with Gonzalo and his customer service, which was very good and, as they say, unbeatable. (Translated by Google) The first week of August, we were in the Rias Baixas region and went specifically to Orujos y Vinos because of the good reviews. We were right; Gonzalo's service couldn't have been better. He advised us and gave us a homemade herbal liqueur to try as a gift, and we also bought some of his own Albariño wine, San Caralimpio, for our own consumption and as a gift—an excellent wine. We will definitely return.

Cute hobbits village, with tiny houses that you can go into. Lovely children's playground in the centre of the village. A fun place to check out in the middle of the woods!
Lovely park inside the O Toxa island. Great place to visit for young and not so young.
Calm, clean and cute place. Pretty good to spend time with the children
It's a cute small park for children in a wooded area that lets their imagination go wild.
We loved this little park and the surrounding paths. Great place for the children!
It was very cute as a new attraction. It's too bad that my kids were too old to enjoy it and the playground that the hobbit homes were built around. LOL! It was worth taking pictures of the area for keepsake.
Nice walk. Area a little run down, but we visited in off season. I would imagine it’s nice to take children in the summer/warmer months. Loads of mushrooms for anyone interested in foraging.
