Lake
Nature & Parks
Scenic views feature at this tree-ringed lake, the largest & fourth-deepest in the Tatra mountains.
Slide 1 of 8
Morskie Oko is the most beautiful lake in the Polish Tatras and in 2014 The Wall Street Journal recognized it as one of the five most beautiful lakes in the world. Distance from Palenica Białczańskiego car parking to Morskie Oko Lake is 9 km. One option is to either walk on the asphalt road which takes around 3 hrs or another one is a horse-drawn carriage till Włosienica from where Morkie Oko is 1.5 km. There are few spots in between for refreshments and toilets. In peak summer months it is crowded but still worth the visit.
It's a good place to visit. Stunning views, lots of toilets and clean water sources all on the way. You have a pub and cafe on the top and in a few places by the road. All the way takes about 2.5 hours if you take breaks. Even kids are going. I've gotten a little bit upset by the amount of people going on top. Probably I was there in the middle of the season, at the peak time. You cannot launch a drone here, because it's a national park. Swimming and walking out of the path is forbidden, which kills all the adventure vibe. A lot of people are going here from all around the world, but if you want a meditative place and solitude with nature, it's definitely not for you. The road is easy and suitable for anyone at any age. You also can take a horse ride for 100PLN up to the top to get there faster. Views are stunning!
Great 12 mike hike! Good incline with stair detours. Beautiful lake at the top. Only cons is that it is crowded at the lake and souvenir shop
The hike to Morskie Oko is barely a hike — the “trail” is actually a smooth, paved road. It’s about 8 km long and takes roughly an hour and a half to walk. The lake itself is stunning, especially later in the day or later in the season when the crowds have thinned out.
Visiting Morskie Oko in winter was an unforgettable experience! The lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks looks like a scene from a postcard — truly magical. The trail from Palenica Białczańska was peaceful and quiet compared to summer, making the hike even more enjoyable.
Overcrowded (near 500 or maybe more people in business day) You will spend approximately one or two hours just waiting in the line The lake is okay, but honest recommendation - search another locations (I‘m sure that you definitely find something else and much better not far away from Krakow or in the Tatry area)
A great spot. Truly, it was amazing to see the lake and walk around it. Anyone in the area should visit! Pro tip: come early, before all the tourists arrive(there’s always a lot of people here.)
It’s important to understand that this is a beautiful place and definitely worth visiting, but it’s also very crowded. The idea is that you can drive up to a paid parking lot, pay the entrance fee to the national park, and then continue on foot along a paved road. It’s not steep, but you’ll be walking a bit more than 8 kilometers — I think it was around 8.3 km in total. At some point, the road splits — you can either take a shorter but much steeper and more difficult trail, or go the longer, easier way around. There are also horse-drawn carriages that go up, though I don’t remember the price. The line was so long that we decided to walk. There’s also an option to pre-book electric shuttle buses on the official website, but their schedule was confusing — I never quite figured it out. On the way back, you can also take either the electric shuttle or a horse-drawn cart. In any case, even with transport, they drop you off about 1.7 km before the lake, so you’ll need to walk the rest of the way. Along the road, there are eco-toilets, and mountain water flows nearby — you can fill your own bottle or drink from your hands without any problem. There’s also a small shop where you can take a break, but they only accept cash.

We went in May 2017, heading up from the national park, past the lower lake and up to this higher lake. The weather was amazing and we were lucky enough to visit when there was still snow higher up. The Black Pond itself was still covered in ice. Definitely worth the hike!
So so worth the long long climb! Perfect location. Amazing view. Peaceful and beautiful lake, surrounded by glorious mountains, overlooking another amazing lake. The pictures speak for themselves:)
It’s about an hour walk from Moskie Oko, but it is totally worth it. The hike up the mountain can be challenging for some, as it is very uphill. If you are asthmatic, I suggest you take your inhaler! It is so beautiful once you get up there and the hike up really makes it worth it. You get a view of morskie oko too and it is a lot less touristy.
I recommend to anyone who has plans of going morskie oko. It's another hour from there and the view is worthwhile. Better than just sitting at Morskie.
This ‘Black Lake’ is only an hour walk from the ‘Sea Eye’ Lake. The red path leading there is not too difficult, and it’s worth the extra views.
Just beautiful. Please don't go in Sandals. Get proper hiking Shoes.
A 15 mile round trip from the parking lot, then bus back to Zacopane. This is a full day hike along mostly wide paved paths then on dirt paths to Morskie Oko. There’s a warming hut with restaurant at Morskie Oko. The path around Morskie Oko is mostly flat and the scenery gorgeous. The climb from Morskie Oko up to Czarny Staw is a 45 degree stone ladder a good 50 meters long. You’re exhausted getting to Morskie Oko but traversing the lake then climbing the stone ladder is worth every amazing moment. Land at Czarny Staw and you’re almost at the summit of The Polish Tatras and it’s exhilarating. Excellent signage along the route is informative and reminds you how far from home and adventurous you are you amazing human.

Valley with a picturesque walking trail amid mountains & forest, plus areas for hiking.

The trail is very easy and possible with kids to go. The path is accesable and for people in wheel chairs. Its easy walk about 2 hours till the end where a small restaurant located. Good path to walk. It cost about 10 zloti per person to enter.
Great place. Picturesque It is a must sight to be explored. I spent 3-4 HOURS with my family. Should have water, snack, tea, coffee.... I highly advise to bring small hand-held trolley to carry your stuff
Nice easy flat walk through the Valley. It was recommended by our hotel staff. There are lots of side trails if you want to go off the main trail.
Must do trail when in Zakopane 😍
It was great experience of hiking in this valley. You have to buy tickets before entering. All along the way the views are beautiful. You can take horses aswell but walking is recommended as you can stop any where you want and enjoy the scenery and relax for a moment. If you are going during snowy days it’s recommended to take chain for shoes as it gets quite slippery.
Lot of small to big hikes in the area. Kids friendly. One of the best experiences is cave trek.
An easy flat walk. From the main walk you can start other branches or loop walks or varying difficulty level. The walks’ difficulty are colour coded just as ski runs are (green, blue, red, black). The easy of access and being more like a stroll than a trek means that this valley walk gets really busy (so not good if peace and quiet is what you are seeking). You also get horse pulled sleighs in the winter and horse pulled carriages in the summer which can carry you along - but beware they are very pricey (they wanted 150 zl for the return leg).
I think it is the best sight in Zakopane. You walk next to a river all along. I pity that we missed the first cave( Jaskinia Mrożona?) I was expecting to see a sign but I didn't, so be aware if you plan to visit the caves. Caves make the walk more interesting for the children, the Smoczna Jama cave is at the end of Kraków Gorge, again there was no sign for it, but thanks to another tourist we were able to go into it, the entrance is just across when you climb the ladder, it is a very short dark walk with chains but interesting for children especially. Make sure that you have a flashlight. Another highlight was that we were able to spot a mommy and baby bear in the hills further away from us 💕

Beautiful waterfall. It was half frozen when we were there. The view from there at Morskie oko is stunning. Strongly recommended! If you climb half hour from there up you will get to Czarny Staw , another beautiful lake just below Rysy. The way there is difficult and slippery, it is better to have sticks and special shoes or traction devices for shoes for climbing on icy surface, but it is worth it definitely
It's a beautiful waterfall on the way to the Morskie oko. It's a lovely stop on the way, there are picnic benches nearby and free toilets. I would highly recommend to stop here.
The way to Morskie Oko is very beautiful, here you come across river, trees and some old houses.
It is worth visiting and halting there for sometime. There is also a halting place nearby this waterfall where you can sit or use the portable toilets.

You can't see much, but it's nice to go anyway. The water and the trees can give you a nice photo.
Really nice spot, must see on the way to peaks
As you walk towarem Morskie Oko you will pass by Wodogrzmoty Mickieewicza. The waterfalls look great with Tatra Mountains spreading behind. When we walked at the end of March the water was frozen and only few sprinkle of water could be seen but the sound of water was still there.Look out for it on your way to Morskie Oko (Sea Eye Lake).

Peaceful and less crowded: October meant fewer hikers, giving a more personal, quiet connection with the mountain. Despite the fog, the trail itself was thrilling.
Amazing top! My friend did it for the first time in his life, with a throat infection 😂. The Polish side is tougher than the Slovak side, but we managed from Palenica parking to Rysy and back in 12 hours. Started at 08:00, back at 20:00, about 30 km total. Definitely doable with the right mindset! Amazing picturesque scenery.
Climbed this amazing summit from Poprazke pleso. The hike was moderate and the views were amazing. I did it during weekdays to avoid the crowds. One of the best summits in the high Tatras
Great hike.the tallest peak in Tatra lives up to the reputation. The steep parts towards the end from polish side are quite exciting, the chain section are lot of fun. It would take around 5 to 6 hrs for the not so seasoned hikers. Shoulder season would be best for quieter hike.
Amazing hike from Slovakia side, but was a bit more than expected, started from car parking at 5:00 and did not bump into many people. Problem was at around mid day when everyone at the top was pushing each other just to get the selfie on the top with the sign. When starting the hike at the bottom there was gas cans, potatoes, cucumbers and those are for strong climbers who voluntary bring those things up the top, to the restaurant! Respect for them! There was new toilets installed at the top and those smell horrible. Overall hike was good, please bring good gloves, anti slip climbing shoes, and very important a helmet for the last 20mins till the top. You ask why? There are some crazy people who dont fallow the path and climb straight up, push the rocks which fall down on other people! Saw one guy who was doing this and moved a solid car tire size boulder down which almost hit an girl.. Everyone started to shout and warn her and she evaded the rock. But my god.. Someone tried to fallow the guy who did this, but he was lucky as he was far away, he was about to be mauled by some army guys. Stay safe people!
Start from Morskie Oko. 4hr 25’. June 10, after heavy snow a week before. 30 min climb to Czarny Staw, pretty steep, nice rocky step way. From Czarny Staw to Rysy semi difficult, some snow, chains, required good condition. A lot of fun, beautiful views, waterfall. Highest Polish peak, mostly recommended.
It’s a great experience, but be prepared as it’s not easy. You’ll need to wear comfortable shoes and bring gloves because there will be a section with chains. It’s not as difficult as it may seem, but it’s important to keep that in mind. The entire route, from the parking lot to Morskie Oko, then to Rysy and back to the parking lot, took almost 8.5 to 9 hours. I also recommend bringing a fleece balaclava and a sun hat.
Challenging hike, but absolutely worth it. Be ready for some technical scrambling and changing weather conditions. Views of Poland and Slovakia are wonderful.

Beautiful mountain valley located in calm and quiet area where not so many tourists pop up. To access it you need to park your car at the parking (e.g. parking close to the "Józef" reastuarant) and take a 15min walk along the woods in the South-West direction. In winter you will need to go around the ski slope. Walk up the valley is very easy, only consider special gear in winter tlas the path my by icy. You can access it with your dog as it is not under Tatra National Park authority. However you will still need to pay an access fee in high season.
Impressive hikes... would recommend to take another route then the green ones on the map, these are the most (and overly) touristic. Deducting 1 star because of the "cattle" feeling during parking, with many parking lots with "individual/friend" prices and the many tourists. If you can, would recommend parking further and for free and walking to the hikes. PLN needs to be purchased for 8zloty.
Nice place and magnificent
Silent, full of small animals, great walk
It is more a road for the cut of tree than a trail for a ballad. There are cars passing by. Apart from the stream, the trail it is not very pretty
Entry is 5zl but you wander for what you pay: the trail is destroyed and muddy, and the forest is all gone...
A good hiking trail with less tourists.
Challenging in the winter time however definitely doable for and amateur.
