Historical place showing a know-how which will disappear. Passionate young fellows share their enthousiasm by doing this job as their ancestors did. A must to visit!
I got to know about this unique paper mill when I was a child. The last of its kind by the way. Awesome experience, bringing you back in time and making you proud to support this heritage. Now living in Luxembourg, I recently ordered paper from them online. The French post lost the first parcel they sent, so they immediately sent another, which I received 3 days later. Insanely good aftersale service :) The paper is just like I remembered it. Amazing. This will make fine letters for my friends. To all epistolary addicts, that s the place you want to source your paper from. Fine quality + history make up for an awesome writing experience. Thank you for everything! Will order again sometime soon for sure ;)
If I visit this place was close and no information which time they open again
Fun! And interesting

(Translated by Google) Small museum on jasseries and the making of fourme, on the activities traditionally carried out in Ambert and its surroundings. The guided tour ends with a tasting. The combination of gingerbread, fourme and blueberry jam is killer! The shop allows you to buy delicious regional products!
(Translated by Google) The unfriendly welcome and the freezing atmosphere, just like the temperature inside the museum. If you visit in winter, keep your coats on. Arriving at the store following the visit, the staff never came to present and highlight the good products on offer. Perhaps interesting for foreigners.
(Translated by Google) This museum offers to discover the history of Fourme d’Ambert and more broadly of the eponymous cheeses of Auvergne (Salers, St Nectaire, etc.). The duration of the visit is a little less than an hour if you do it accompanied by a guide (which I highly recommend). The price is 7€ per person for a guided tour. It begins with a film explaining the past life of farms producing fourme, then with a visit to a cellar and finally with two rooms upstairs which exhibit the model of an alpine farm and the objects necessary for making fourme and their evolution over time. A fun moment to discover this local cheese. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, the person who gave us the tour knew his field very well. The museum store offers a range of Auvergne specialties in a local production approach: raw milk cheeses from producers, wine, jams, objects... at reasonable prices.

(Translated by Google) Horrible experience! Above all, do not get into the back of the open wagon!! Behind the locomotive, the air is unbreathable, the smell is unbearable, and the noise is horrible! This way of proceeding is indecent! Even animals would not be transported in these conditions. It is a human and ecological disaster. Strange in 2023 to still see this happening...! In addition, no organizer warned us even though we had a 6 month old baby with us! We spent the trip trying to take care of our little one and breathe. We saw nothing of the landscape. For the price of the ticket, this kind of thing is not acceptable. NEVER TEST!!

This emblematic monument, perfectly circular, bears witness to the history and singularity of the town of Ambert, located in the enchanting setting of Livradois-Forez. The originality of this town hall lies above all in its unusual shape. Its circular structure, rare in public architecture, is both functional and symbolic. It evokes the idea of an open and inclusive gathering space, where every citizen has their place. Outside, the facades, with their regularly spaced windows, accentuate this impression of harmony and symmetry. Inside, the building is just as impressive. The well-designed spaces are bright and welcoming, offering a warm setting for administrative procedures. Every architectural detail has been carefully preserved, while integrating modern amenities to meet current needs. The building is often admired not only for its unique form, but also for the atmosphere it exudes: both majestic in its historic stature and accessible in its design. It is a place where past and present coexist harmoniously, offering residents a true center of community life. The Round Town Hall of Ambert is much more than a simple administrative building; it embodies the spirit of the city and is a strong symbol of its identity.

If you and the children are into history and technology this is a good place. We took the guided visit. They explain clearly and responded to our questions. The guide turn on the machines and that was awesome, it's impressive. There are screens next to the machines & plenty of signs explaining the machine/context. I do feel that is not suitable for children under 7 or those who are not into history. It was not easy to find the Museum, I hope the city will put more road signs. Once inside, you are immediately struck by the beauty of the stained glass windows and the grandeur of the nave, which create a peaceful atmosphere conducive to meditation. The church is perfectly maintained, which allows you to fully enjoy its splendor, whether you are a believer or simply a heritage lover. The volunteers and managers on site are very welcoming and always available to share interesting information on the history of the building and its particularities. Services are celebrated there with great devotion and are moments of contemplation much appreciated by the community. Whether you come to pray, meditate, or admire the architecture and works of art, the Saint-Jean church is an unmissable stopover in Ambert, and I recommend it without hesitation to anyone visiting the region.

(Translated by Google) The construction of the Saint-Jean church took place from 1471 to 1551, modeled on the Gothic churches of northern France. The inhabitants, wanting to highlight the town's paper-making prosperity, "made the intention and undertaking to build a church following the example of the great Notre-Dame de Paris". The church is an imposing Gothic building of 5 unequal bays with an ambulatory. Its style is close to that of Chaise-Dieu, with southern influences. The bell tower is the pride of the city with its 55 meters height and its Renaissance pilasters. Its primary purpose was to be seen from afar and to dominate the city walls. A gentle fun way to see some of the area off the beaten track. It's quite easy to get space between the cars and as long as you can get on a saddle the pedalling is easy, one person can do it, doesn't need two. Turning round is a little more involved but easily achieved by anybody even half fit. An hour is enough for fun, if you want more consider going for the longest slot and having a picnic at the final turning point.
(Translated by Google) Very nice activity, however I advise you to take the tunnel route because apart from this one there is nothing special to see. A little disappointed for the return we were last and we arrived at 12:40 p.m. only 10 minutes late. The counter was closed, there is no support on the way back. We could have had an accident at a stop sign no one is there to check the arrival of all the families. Security and monitoring level needs to be reviewed.

(Translated by Google) Very nice outing to do as a couple, with family or friends! Friendly welcome, pleasant route mostly in the shade and cool (for the longest “tunnels” route) Even the long route is doable with children, pedaling does not require a lot of effort.

I did the average. I only had a 2.5 hour slot. We pedal without forcing. For my part, I booked online. I chose my day and received my printed ticket. It's simpler. Possibility of parking next to the station. And if you have time, consider visiting the Richard de Bas paper printing company. It's worth the detour.

Lovely camp-site with shady trees, clean facilities, hedging for site privacy. Enjoyed my walk along the river into town for market day. A very peaceful and beautiful place. Thank you ❤️
We have visited many years ago on our motorbike with friends and on our own . This year went via motorhome and the place has changed alot. It has lovely piches , all quite large and some hardstanding. Weather being so wet, it was a bonus. The facilities extremely good, with heating in one particular bit. Lots of wooden lodges to rent, as well as tents. Water taps close to pitches. The swimming pool next to site included in fee I believe. The site manager has a great interest in the nature and flora and fauna, which shows in the site, with lovely trees and hedges. It is situated next to the river, which has a footpath into town . Lots of walks and museums to visit. Especially the cheese museum and the local cheese to purchase there. Also the old trains and various trips to take on them. Well worth a visit .
Large campsite on the outskirts of town, opposite Carrefour Market and a DIY shop. Staff were friendly and helpful. The booking process is a bit peculiar - you have to request a slot, then get it confirmed, then fill in a form with the same information as the request and pay a deposit. At which point the website crashes. Then you get an email saying that your payment is waiting - apparently it has actually been received at this point. Quite when we're were there early May - four or five campervans and a few of the huts in use. Unfortunately we were all squeezed into the same section of the site. Pitches are grass. Electricity by 16A socket. Ours was wired up backwards, so take a reversing adapter. There are water taps on each row, 3 out of 4 threaded for hose attachment. Vehicle access is by keyfob available from reception. The site itself is next to a main road. Whilst notionally this is a 50 kph limit it's a long straight road and used - noisily - as a racetrack by the locals. The site is also just of the flight path from the local airfield, but you can't hear the aeroplanes over the road noise. In general there's a sense of, not quite menace but more unease about the area, particularly walking back from the town centre at night. It's about a half hour walk into town for restaurants. There are three toilet blocks. Two were in use for our stay. The nearest is a strange design; unisex but with only two cubicles (plus a disabled) and multiple urinals. Almost as though it was designed for men but made unisex as an afterthought. Also means few options when the inconsiderate campers urinate all over the cubicle (having first urinated all over the adjacent pitch). The washing up and laundry sinks are in the same room. There is a soap dispenser. Next door is the shower and sink room. Whoever thought that encasing the whole thing in a giant greenhouse was a good idea has clearly never experienced a French summer. Large cockroach like insects are attracted by the light at night and do your morning shower starts by sweeping them out. Lots of play areas and, of course, there's the swimming pool next door.
Peaceful site in June. Good sized level pitches with mature trees giving some shade. Sanitary facilities fairly basic but clean. Very helpful staff in reception. Pleasant walk into town along riverbank. Choice of supermarkets just a short walk from the site.
We turned up just when the office had closed, the site manager very kindly opened up and allowed us on for the night. The facilities were modern and clean.
Good clean municipal site, with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Pool next door a bonus in the heat, but an issue if your pitch is close to the side with the pool as the pumps are noisy and run almost constantly through the night.
Lovely tranquil camp-site, very spacious. Wonderful service, very clean and you van use the pool next door as much as you like! Fantastic!
Really good campsite with good clean facilities. An easy walk into town. Supermarkets and restaurants close by.
