Liked this site a lot, nice quiet area in a valley. The ruins are well preserved and retain lots of detail.
An interesting sanctuary temple of importance to ancient Greece. Quite a big site, with information boards in English and Greek. Some uneven footing, with a decline at entrance leading to the ruin. Toilet facilties and vending machines, some parking out front.
Really interesting, yet not well known. The ruins are well described and located in a gorgeous natural place. There is a lot to see. Unfortunately the place is not well kept - they could at least cut the grass around the paths!
An unknown small treasure. A magnificent landscape with pine trees and more. A small stream passing through the site making the place even more beautiful. One a the few archeological places near Athens that most of us don't even know. Also a place you must definitely visit. Some tips for the way. 1- the place is huge almost 40 acres so bring some water because the vending machine is usually out of service. 2- The don't accept card's for the tickets (3€).
It’s always a nice experience to visit archaeological sites in Greece. This one is not a famous one, as a result it’s a little bit abandoned. But the location is lovely and the visit can be combined with a quick dip in the sea.
The site is small but perfectly evocative in its beautiful landscape. Be sure to do some reading on its history and the mythical Amfiaraos whose presence permeates the place. Nice WC is a big plus.
I've visited the site 3 times..and will do so again!! Set ideally in the most beautiful of natural landscapes... without disturbing it in the least but coexisting perfectly . One can imagine here so clearly how the ancients organised their lives around their gods and beliefs and needs. I was truly awed.
Generally i like small museums and archaeological sites, especially when they are found in a beautiful natural environment. That is exactly the case of the Amfiaraeion, the oracular sanctuary of Amfiaraos. The visit is very interesting with plenty of information found on site. It is very nicely taken care of and the visit may seem like an excursion. The stoa and the theatre are pretty impressive and restored with respect.
