We were running late for our tour time, but called and spoke with receptionist and they are fabulous! Great tour guide! Very informative and explanation of the history. No joke its very hot during the summer, bring your water bottle!!
My sister and I did the overnight paranormal tour for our birthday and it was AWESOME! This place is amazing and honestly it's the first place we've investigated where I was actually terrified in one part. We loved the 90 minute tour before we went out investigating. Jalynn was a great tour guide. Highly recommend this place just for the history itself.
Visited on a very hot and muggy Saturday in August and it was certainly an experience I’ll never forget. Elijah was my tour guide and he was great! His perspective as a Moundsville local enhanced the experience, and I would recommend this tour for anyone in the area! I can’t wait to come back and experience the haunted house one day, as this place has such a unique vibe to it.
Very cool tour! Our tour guide Tiffany was very nice, professional and full of information that she was happy to share. She gave us time to take photos and videos if we wanted to, gave us time to actually browse around and look at different stuff along the tour. We did not feel rushed at all and had a great time. Thank you for offering this
On my way back home to Ohio, I stopped in to visit the West Virginia Penitentiary. I did one of their day tours and was not disappointed. The tour guides are so knowledgeable and the history is just fascinating. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would love to come back and do it a night tour or a paranormal tour. If you have a couple of hours to spare, I would highly recommend checking it out.
Went with a group of friends for their haunted Halloween event. It was spectacular! I’d love to tour the building one day. What a fortress! That stone work was impressive from the outside!
We took the guided tour at West Virginia Penitentiary. Our tour guide, Jalynn, was great! She was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting. The tour covered a lot of cool spots in and outside of the prison. We will definitely be back again!
my 4th time coming here, i go to haunted houses a lot but this one has to be my favorite! I always do the dungeon because it's genuinely so fun, the visuals and props are so creative and the actors are so good at what they do. They never fail to scare my friends and family and its so funny. it was so great being here and I look forward to my next visit!🤎

Was absolutely beautiful, glass came from WV, everything previously built by hand n hand crafted. Tour guide was super informative and friendly. Don't go if your not interested in other people's interests n beliefs, be respectful, it's not your holy place but it is someone else's. The colors and paintings were just beautiful, the beautiful crafted designs and woodwork were off the charts.
3 Stars The landscape, artwork, and peacocks were absolutely beautiful and made for a really lovely atmosphere. We took the tour inside the palace, which was nice overall. The tour guide was okay—not the most engaging or exciting, but I understand not everyone is high energy. One thing I was surprised by was the lack of henna tattoo artists. I think having henna available, especially on weekends, would really attract more visitors—personally, I love henna and think it would be a great addition. All in all, it was an okay experience. I’d probably come back again if family or friends wanted to go, but it wasn’t something that really wowed me.
Who would have ever imagined in the rural West Virginia mountains there would be a Palace of Gold! We had a very kind and patient guide who gave us the history of how the palace came to be. It’s even more amazing looking at the detailed workmanship on the exterior and interior of the palace and the grounds that all of it was constructed by followers without any experience. If you are lucky enough to visit when there is an event going on in the temple, go see it, it’s exquisite inside. Come when the rose gardens are in bloom to appreciate the full beauty of the place. And because I get asked often, no one bothers you.
17NOV.2025 Such a beautiful place and ALL the people in the community were so wonderful, super friendly, and inviting. Great place and awesome experience. Such a hidden gem in the gorgeous mountains ⛰️ of Moundsville, West Virginia. Gorgeous drive up to this beautiful palace.
Everything was nice , great tour guide less than 10 mins wait. I love all the animals, scenery, would come back to again rent a cabin. except for the lady in the gift shop she was kinda weird she step on my foot without an apology
I love this place. It exudes spiritual and calming vibes. I went with a devotee and met the original members of New Vrindiban and met some of the early devotees who built the temple. It's amazing that teenagers/young adults built the palace with no prior building experience, really. It's beautiful. The grounds are the people are lovely. I sincerely hope that this Hari Krishna historical gem will be properly restored after the original devotees dedication, hard work, and love dedicated to Srila Prabhupada and Krishna.
The palace and the temple were stunning, we took the palace tour and our guide was very nice and informative, the restaurant offers free meals and does alot for its local community I loved that. the gardens and lakes are stunning and the peacocks were so cool. We got to see artisans restoring some pieces and the gift shop was great too. me and my friend had a wonderful visit and definitely recommend checking this place out!
I’m a Krishna Devotee living in Florida and what an amazing place to see. Can’t wait to go back hopefully next summer. One of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had. Hare Krishna❤️🙏

2,000-year-old burial mound created by prehistoric people, plus an interpretive museum.
Slide 1 of 8
This prehistoric burial mound, one of the largest of its kind, stands as a testament to the ingenuity and culture of the Adena people. The site includes a well-curated museum that’s free to visit, housing intriguing exhibits about the history of the mound, local businesses, and archaeological artifacts. There's also information about Marble King exhibit and the area's local glass artistry.
We went with family to the site to see the museum and the mound. All of the information that we saw in the museum was quite interesting to find out about the Adena civilization. The Adena Mound and Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex in Moundsville, West Virginia, offer a fascinating and deeply meaningful glimpse into ancient Native American history and culture. The centerpiece of the site is the massive Grave Creek Mound, one of the largest conical burial mounds in the United States, constructed by the Adena people over 2,000 years ago. Standing at approximately 62 feet high and 240 feet in diameter, the mound is an awe-inspiring testament to the engineering and ceremonial practices of a complex prehistoric society. Reading some of the reviews stating that the displays are being removed and changed is somewhat disturbing. This is history; why is it being removed?
If you are in town, definitely worth a stop. There is a museum with historical information and artifacts and it's free. There is a cute little gift shop and if you so wish you can walk up the mound. It was an extremely warm day so we did not hike up the mound, but there are step carved or laid to the top.
The visitor center was more like a mini museum with rare artifacts and dinosaur bones and skeletons as well as a gift shop! It provided a great insight into what life for native americans and early settlers was like in the 1700s and 1800s. And it was free!
The mound itself is amazing. Because the steps up were pieces of stone they were a bit difficult and tiring but worth it because they didn't detract from the mound like concrete would have. The adjoining museum was very well done presented and informative.
The museum is slowly going woke and all the artifacts are being removed. I've seen other museums with all native artifacts removed entirely, filled with only posters bashing all white people as racist. This will soon be one of them. The artifacts still here were wonderful to see, and the mound is worth checking out.
A very nice stop that is across from the WV State Penitentiary (which I recommend as well). Also includes a free museum that has some unique artifacts.
What an absolutely stunning little museum. A great museum sparks interest in a person where none previously existed and this museum does just that.

We had a great time here. We traveled here with 5 other RVs and stayed in the campground. The sites were large and clean. Some of our group rented the golf carts and said they were the most reasonably priced rentals they had ever encountered. Views were fantastic from the sites and from the lookout. We used the free shuttle to go to the moundsville penitentiary the shuttle we take you to town and a tour. The pool was really nice and there was a snack bar. Miniature golf was fun, recommend going when they open or later in the day as it gets hot in the sun. The cost to do the activities was reasonable and pairing activities saves you some money. Lastly Craig the manager was amazing all weekend checked on us after arrival and asked if there was anything we needed, remembered our names and as he saw us throughout the weekend would stop and talk and gave us pointers on what to see and information on how he could make our next visit even better.
We had the best time here! We celebrated Christmas in July and it was truly a weekend to remember. Our extended family shared the Fox Cabin, it was large and clean and stocked with everything we could need. It was located near all the fun stuff and had a spectacular view. The pool was amazing! Waterslides, tons of room, clean, beautiful! We had the chance to zip line and did the Wild tour. It was fantastic, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Our guides were so much fun and added another level of fun to the experience. The entire staff here is amazing. The grounds are stunning, you won't need to leave!
Stayed at Site 38 at Grand Vue RV Park. Beautiful area, lots to do, friendly staff. We were greeted by Craig, the General Manager, who gave us information about the local area. Super nice guy who will help you and answer any questions you may have. We toured the WV Penitentiary, played mini golf, and rode our ebikes on the Heritage Trail in Wheeling. Beautiful weather we had early September. P.S. Check out the two upside down trees Craig and his wife planted at the scenic overlook!
We didnt stay in the lodge here, but hiked, played and mountain bikes at this beautiful park. I highly recommend it to anyone. There is a nice playground if you have littles, a scenic overlook, a high ropes course and of course hiking and mountain biking. Everything is well marked and easy to find. Great park!
This is one of the most beautiful parks we have ever visited. We are campers and the campground and bath houses are immaculate. The views of the city from the campsites are stunning. There is a shuttle service that will take you to points of interest in Moundsville and Wheeling. There is something for everyone here. We will definitely be coming back.
Just stayed in the RV park with my family- one of our favorite parks! Beautiful views and grounds, lots to do, the pool/waterpark is amazing! The park manager, Craig and most of the employees were above and beyond nice. The playgrounds and mini golf area were huge and immaculate. My daughter thought the glow golf was the best thing ever :) One of my only complaints is the extra charge everyday to use the pool. For the 4 of us (my son is 3 so he was free) it was $20 per day. Next year when he’s 4 it will be almost $30 per day. So when you go for all 3 days you’re there it really adds up.
Had company picnic and the shelter was large (with firewood for fireplace provided if needed), kitchen, hot and cold water, fridge with freezer, electric, and his and her bathrooms. Perfect!
We loved the campground, great wifi, staff goes above and beyond. Staff took us on tour of area and to various sites, waited while we toured. Hershey ice cream! Swimming pool, mini golf, Frisbee golf, trails, beautiful place.

The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you! When we arrived, the owner was there, and he did a demonstration of some of the toys in his collection just for me and my kids! It was really neat to see how some of the older toys actually worked, whereas usually you only get to see them in cases. Then we were taken on a tour by a very knowledgeable and friendly lady who works there (whose name I unfortunately didn't catch). She told us a lot about the history of the company, and the back stories of certain play sets - lots of interesting things that we wouldn't have picked up if we had just wandered through the displays on our own. I was very impressed with the collection there, and also with the obvious love the staff had for Marx toys, and their dedication to sharing that love and knowledge with others. It was definitely worth the twenty minute drive from our hotel in Wheeling. Highly recommended!
What an amazing place. A veritable trip down memory lane. Things you never knew, you never knew that came out of the world's largest toy manufacturer in Moundsville WV. Sadly after over 50 years in existence the museum closed its doors in 2016.
Really neat to see all of the old toys. Brings back a lot of memories. Staff was nice and friendly.
Lots of cool old toys including the childhood toys of country super star Brad paisley who grew up near by
I have never went here before.

I had an incredible experience at the Krishna Temple! The peaceful atmosphere, warm and welcoming devotees, and beautiful surroundings make it a truly special place. The prayer sessions are deeply spiritual, and the temple is immaculately maintained. I especially enjoyed the serene ambience and the beautiful chanting of mantras. It’s a perfect spot for anyone looking to connect spiritually or just experience a sense of tranquility. Highly recommend visiting for a peaceful and uplifting experience!
I recently took a trip to the New ISKCON Vrindaban Temple in Moundsville, WV, and honestly, it was such a peaceful and memorable experience. It’s about an hour’s drive from Pittsburgh’s South Side, and the last 25 minutes takes you through winding, scenic off-road hills. The temple is perched right on top of a hill, and the location is just stunning—calm, quiet, and full of positive energy. The temple itself is dedicated to Lord Krishna, and the atmosphere is so serene. I attended the evening arati, and hearing everyone chant “Hare Krishna, Hare Rama” together was truly moving. It felt like a moment outside of time. They’ve done a great job making it family-friendly too. There are beautiful elephant and cow statues that kids love, and plenty of open space to walk around and relax. They also have cottages and rooms if you want to stay overnight, and the prices are very reasonable. It’s one of those places that makes you forget the outside world. You feel welcomed, refreshed, and connected. If you’re looking for a spiritual retreat or just a peaceful day out in nature, I can’t recommend this place enough. You won’t want to leave.
I visit New Vrindaban every year, and it’s truly one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I’ve ever been. The Krishna temple is stunning, clean, and safe, with a calming spiritual energy that brings me peace inside and out. There are dancing peacocks, cows, fish, and sometimes even friendly stray cats roaming around. I love the cute little gift shops for souvenirs, the serene ponds with lotus flowers, and the yoga shala on-site. Inside the temple, there are shelves of spiritual books to explore, and they serve free, fresh, and delicious vegetarian lunches every afternoon. I never leave without grabbing a lassi from the restaurant nearby, it’s seriously the best lassi I’ve ever had. ꒰ᐢ. .ᐢ꒱ A short walk away is the Palace of Gold, which is absolutely breathtaking. The rose gardens are vibrant, the nature views are stunning, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for a leisurely walk. There’s another gift shop there too. This entire place holds a special place in my heart, and I look forward to coming back every year. Highly, highly recommend! ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡
This is a great place for meditation, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. Located on top of a hill, it's peaceful and close to nature. During our visit, we saw peacocks, groundhogs, cats, ducks, swans, doves, and deer. The accommodation is comfortable and conveniently located near the temple.
This serene haven lets you escape into nature's tranquility. With peacocks roaming freely and swans gliding across the pond, it's a peaceful retreat. The vegetarian food is delicious, and the spiritual atmosphere is palpable. Visitors and devotees come to pay their respects, and the daily aarti, pooja, and kirtan add to the ambiance. A perfect spot for hiking, family bonding, or simply unwinding.
Visiting ISKCON New Vrindaban was such a peaceful and uplifting experience. The temple is beautifully built and surrounded by hills, making the whole atmosphere calm and spiritual. The deities are divine, truly a hidden gem that feels like stepping into another world. Overall, it’s a place that touches the heart, connects you spiritually, and gives you both peace and joy.
Visited the divine ISKCON New Vrindaban Temple, nestled in the peaceful hills near Moundsville, WV. This serene spiritual community is home to the magnificent Sri Sri Radha Vrindaban Chandra Mandir and the world-famous Palace of Gold, often called “America’s Taj Mahal.” 🛕🌸 💫 The temple is a perfect blend of devotion, culture, and natural beauty. From daily aartis and melodious kirtans to peaceful garden strolls and vegetarian prasadam – everything here feels spiritually uplifting. 🌺🙏 Whether you’re a devotee, a traveler, or a seeker of peace, this place welcomes all with open arms and divine energy. Peacocks roam freely, lotus ponds shine under the sun, and the air is filled with devotion and grace. 🦚🌞 📍If you’re planning a visit to West Virginia, ISKCON New Vrindaban is a must-visit destination for its calm atmosphere, vibrant architecture, and spiritual charm.
Beautiful and full of nature area. Temple is located in a quite place. It was great experience as it was our first visit. One night stay.

Very niche museum on just Fostoria Glass. You get to watch a cool film from the 50s on how the glass was made and then the rest of the museum is displays of different types and shapes from the companies history broken out into different eras. The museum really helped me understand what glass I inherited from my grandparents.
A lovely collection of Fostoria art to see for those who appreciate fine vintage glass! Also there - great adjacent parking, informative video, friendly staff, and available restroom. Thank you!🏺🙏🏼♥️
This is great place and very knowledgeable volunteers. One gave it a low rating due to no elevator, well this runs all on donations, my feeling is that person ca donate for them to build an elevator. At least there is a chair lift for people to get up to the second floor It is a very interesting place. So much glass. Another left a lower rating and said it is good if you like depressed glass. Well if you don't like depressed glass don't go. Glass making is no longer done much. We were lucky to have Fostoria in Moundsville, both Viking and LG Wright in New Martinsville. Also, Paden City glass in Paden City and Febton Glass in Williamstown. So 5 glass making places from Moundsville to Williamstown. That is a lot just on State Route 2 in WV. I love all of that history.
If you love Fostoria you MUST visit here. Rare pieces of many patterns to see along with just the sheer beauty of American made glass. Everyone is very friendly and they know their stuff! There is a small but thorough reference library and some nice displays. I'd like to go again!
Great displays of Fosteria glass. Nice staff
The Fostoria glass Museum is a lovely place. 2 full floors of beautiful Fostoria Glassware. We are complying with all of the state mandates and are requiring everyone to wear a mask. We have available masks and hand sanitizer. We are open Wednesday through Saturday from 1-4. Hope to see you soon.
Beautifully displayed. No time restriction with self guided tour, but questions expertly answered. Adequate parking. Pleasant and enjoyable. Very educational. Too bad could not keep at least part of the plant standing. But that's "progress".
Very interesting if you like antique glass and such. I enjoyed it because I grew up in moundsville and as a kid we would sneak into the old Fostoria glass factory and could see how it was all made. Back then, before it was demolished there was piles of old glass throughout the factory we used to dig thru to try and find full pieces... still have a few. Worth checking out.

The people working at the Halloween kids event were so kind & welcoming! My kids & their friend had a great time doing their arts & crafts upstairs, then really enjoyed watching The Monster House in the big theatre! We will definitely be keeping our eyes open for more events so that we can come back😊
Absolutely love this old theater. The ambiance is wonderful! Recently saw Nunsense. Excellent cast! Each and every one was an accomplished singer which is a rare find. It was a lovely night out. Look forward to going to another show there
This older theater is in Moundsville,West Virginia. This was a nice old theater. We went to see our favorite Bluegrass group, Crandall Creek. They put on a good show in the evening & in the afternoon we met them & learned about song writing & the recording business. It was a Great fun day with Great People. The town was very nice too.
Great staple in Moundsville. We have attended many shows and always have a great experience. Assigned seating would help with bigger events. Make sure you get there early to have seats together.
The Historic Strand Theatre Moundsville ,WV is an amazing venue to see live music. We saw an incredible band, ThunderBeard: A Tribute To ZZ Top, and they rocked the house! I can’t wait to see them again! The staff is wonderful and everything about the strand theater is just perfect! If you haven’t seen a show here, do yourself a favor and get tickets to the amazing live music shows and product productions they put on. Support this amazing local venue. They are the last of its kind and they are putting an amazing live music shows. 5 Stars!
Theatre is beautiful. Unfortunately poor and nasty attitudes of a couple employees can easily ruin the experience here. It’s unfortunate.
A beautiful piece of history. Gorgeous original wood works. Offers a variety of entertainment every weekend for everyone young n old. Pricing for events beyond reasonable. Nicest people ive ever met. Cant wait to go back and enjoy this theater turning 100 years old!
They did an amazing job restoring this beautiful place of history. There are several differences, but they don't detract in the least from the theater. While I would love to see modern movies playing here again, the plays, musical groups, and shows that have been here were still a delight! I remember seeing Westworld, Soylent Green, and a lot of other movies there when I was young. I am very happy to see it being used again!

We attended two Halloween events for the kids & they had a blast at both! They loved playing at the park afterwards and watching all the cute dogs play together in the dog park area. I enjoyed the swings overlooking the river while the kids burnt off all their energy!
Nice playground for the kids, and it's relaxing to sit in one of the swings by the river. The downside is that there is goose droppings all throughout the grassy areas. I wouldn't allow the kids to run freely!!
Love visiting and just sitting here. Usually have parties down here and the area is so open and nice. There is a kids park nearby and also a walking trail. The view of the river is just amazing.
Awesome view of the Moundsville Bridge and the Ohio River!
It's a boat launch, and in that respect it's very nice, saw a guy pull a boat out looks week died to launch
Really nice place for parties or reunions or any kind of get together. Right along the river so its absolutely beautiful. Also has a wonderful playground right across from the pavilion and a place to take your boats out on the river right next to the pavilion. Definitely recommend. Just watch for the goose droppings.
Nice quiet spot to have lunch. The river looks inviting.
Need a party place for your child's birthday, graduation, family reunion is got you covered. Or if you need a place to sit and think, talk, pray, late at night in front of the river with lights dancing on the water, this place is great. To you couples out there this is not a good make out spot. Police patrol the area on a regularly basis which is nice and the place is technically closed at dark which

This is a wonderful place, a sacred place, to learn about local history. While it's true their regular hours are only on Thursday, if you contact them ahead of time they will make arrangements to open up the museum when you are in town. Nila and Irene greeted with open arms, showed us around, answered many questions, told us stories, and accepted some donations that belonged to our grandparents who lived on a dairy farm on Fork Ridge many, many years ago. The movie Fools Parade starring Kurt Russell was filmed in Moundsville. One of the volunteers had her picture taken with him. Lots of interesting stories are contained within these walls.
I've frequented this amazing time capule of a museum a few times for research and out of curiosity. This museum/archive has multitudes of information, historical eye-candy and curiosities crammed into a historic church near the Ohio River. I highly recommend one to visit here with much time to spare!
Very good small museum that has many exhibits; and complied research for genealogy. Early photographs, and local business ephemera including U. S. Stamping and Fostoria Glass.
totally awesome! sooo much to see! they worked so hard on getting it ready! good job Jill ,Brian, Evan! don't miss this jewel in moundsville ,W.Va.!
Typical small County museum. Full of great artifacts and a nice family history library
All kinds of local history here. Unfortunately it is currently closed due to a water line break that affected most, if not all, exhibits.
