Amazing morning on the River yesterday. Perfect water levels, perfect weather and clean banks. The Army Corps of Engineers have nearly completed the cleanup after Helene and they’ve done a wonderful job. I can report that the French Broad River is healing nicely. Also saw a Bald Eagle which was super cool. It’s in the photo but I missed the shot of it flying toward me.
Words can’t describe how much fun we had fly fishing with Headwaters Outfitters. We had a group of 12 friends and 4 guides which worked out really well. The guides were very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly and our group had a great time. We loved it so much that we booked with them again for our family vacation and the experience was just as good as the last one. Thank you Headwaters!! We’ll definitely be back!
Loved loved loved my first kayaking experience!!! Best day ever. Everything is super organized and fun! Very friendly staff. Will be back soon for sure!
My wife is a travel nurse and we were in the area in a contract . Our granddaughter came to visit and wanted to tube . We have our fifth wheel set up juts about Head waters and had been wanting to check it out . Really glad we did . Our granddaughter had a blast . The staff are top notch and very polite . Check in was very easy . We really enjoyed tubing . When we arrived at the take out spot the staff was already there ready to pick us up . Such a great experience . We will definitely be back .
Our group of twelve went kayaking Oskar Blues Cruise then Booze on July 18th. Those guys were awesome and that is the fastest, most efficient access to the river that we have experienced. They were so professional and the entry and exit to the river were amazing. Thanks guys. I am sorry I only recall Greer’s name but all three guys were great. Can hardly wait to kayak this adventure again
We've gone twice now, and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time. Staff is very friendly and helpful, and the tubing trip is very relaxing and a lot of fun. When they have events, they are well done and fun for kids and adults alike.
Had another awesome day with Chris from Headwaters. He guided for me over 20 years ago, fixed several of my fishing bad habits, and really got me passionate about fly fishing. I keep going back whenever I need help with a specific technique or I want to introduce a friend to the sport I love. Yesterday’s trip was all about roll casting and mending. We hiked and climbed to get to some really interested water and had a blast. We caught some great browns and bows, he fixed my mending technique, and we laughed a lot. I can’t recommend the guides at Headwaters more!
It nice cool refreshing water, I really enjoyed about an hour and half ride down to a spot they had a bus waiting to bring me back to my car. It didn’t cost a whole lot either.

We just held our wedding reception there...it was off-season, so they didn't require we pay to reserve the whole taproom. They had a table ready for our food, a beautiful sign welcoming my new bride and myself, and tables ready for our party. There were a few others there, not with our party, but we enjoyed inviting them to take part in the festivities. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. It was perfect for the small laid-back reception that we wanted.
What an awesome place! We visited during our stay at gorges SP. Great selection, prices, and atmosphere! We had an amazing fresh shrimp tostada and chicken wrap from the food truck du jour (The Local Harvester). Will definitely be back!
This is my 2nd time here, the tap room it's self is really laid back, lots of drafts on tap as well as cans and bottles. We're predominantly ciders drinkers and they have a total of 4. They have different food trucks come and park right out front for food! Recommend to anyone visiting the area!
We visited Forks of the River taproom while camping at Lazy J's with our dog. It's very close to the campground so very convenient for dinner and drinks. A food truck is available most days and beer and wine in the taproom. Staff were very friendly and nice to our dog. He even got a couple treats! We will definitely visit next time we're camping in the area.
the bartender lady looked/treated me like she had seen me on a wanted poster lol, all jokes aside i just went in there to buy a four pack of what they advertised on IG a few days ago. I asked for a taste and she treated me like i wasn’t welcome there.
My favorite local riverside dive bar. Great spot by the underpass to dip your toes in the river or sip on some beer with a friend. Dog friendly. People friendly. Usually has a good food truck too.
The food trucks are always good. Every body is so friendly, it's a great place to grab a beer and food. I am a local so we go often.
Great place to stop for a beer. It is absolutely not fancy, but they have a great beer selection at good prices.

The state's highest point, this peak offers varied trails & an observation deck with sweeping views.

Highest elevation in SC. Nice views in well maintained lookout where you can stand on the place of highest elevation, and a foot in SC and NC. You can also see GA (not Alaska, though😆), and the views are explained on the nicely done panels. We returned for the sunset, which was spectacular. Plenty of parking.
Spectacular mountain views and lake views. The highest elevation in South Carolina.
Beautiful views all around. Short walk from parking area. NC sc dividing line. The observation deck area is very nice..several trails near by but we didn't do any. Restroom in parking lot but we didn't use it
Easy hike..path is paved or can take non paved path as well. Once to top views are amazing with plenty Information about surrounding areas/mountains. Also bathrooms available by parking (parking is free) and drive up is beautiful winding through mountains!
Rising over 3000 feet with views of the Blue Ridge, Sassafras Mountain has great parking, bathrooms and a huge concrete viewing platform. The road is winding on the way up but worth the trip!
This is a DO NOT miss. It's a winding mountain drive to it but so worth it! The view is fabulous!
Its a bit of a walk up a hill to get to the look out, but so worth it. Its so beautiful this time of year, the trees are turning lovely colors, its a perfect weekend trip.
Easy enough hike. Great observation deck. Basically clean.

I shot at Smoke Rose Field Club this past Friday and Saturday. Our host Hal Cottingham couldn’t have been more gracious and generous with his time. My son Liam (15) has really taken to sporting clays. Loved the focus on safety but laid back vibe in all other aspects of the club. We were made to feel VERY welcome. Two 100 bird courses. Two five stands. One likely the best I’ve ever seen. I’m sure we will become members if the club will have us. Five stars.
We had the great privilege to visit and shoot at Smoke Rise this past weekend and enjoyed every moment! All of the staff were outstanding and all of the members we met were superb and hospitable. We shot the Ridge course and some of the subgauge course, both of which were full of great targets and breathing views. We also had a blast at the Big Boy 5 stand, FTASC, and were able to participate in several of the games and multiple menus. The grounds are meticulously kept and the clubhouse and pavilion were top notch. Thank you to everyone at Smoke Rise for a memorable visit!
We recently spent a few days in NC with friends for the holiday weekend. One of our friends is a member at Smoke Rise FC and suggested we go shoot the course. From the moment we walked in, the members treated us like we were members and welcomed us to shoot with them on: Big Boy Five Stand, Miller's Madness, Fitasc, etc. Man what an experience, being from the flat lands (Florida), it was amazing!! Thanks Smoke Rise....great time!!
Smoke Rise is a awesome shooting field club, they go above and beyond to support our kids at at Rosman Shooting Club. Thanks so much !
Awesome club. Beautiful mountain layout that you won't find anywhere else. The Valley Course and Valley 5-Stand are set for intermediate and sub gauge and the Ridge Course is competition level. Also don't pass up an opportunity to shoot Hal's Big Boy 5-Stand, F.I.T.A.S.C., Miller's Madness field that will challenge anyone! Nice view from clubhouse deck. True Southern hospitality from members and staff makes you feel welcome.
Shot the Ridge Course. It was really nicely set up with well thought out targets. The scenery was great and the club was beautiful and nicely landscaped. It was a delightful visit. Many thanks to the team and members of Smoke Rise!
Smoke Rise is nothing short of awesome. Staff - friendly; other shooters - welcoming; targets - world class; clubhouse - quaint; did I mention, experience was awesome!
This place is great! We were very pleased with Jeff’s customer service and the overall landscape of the place. Will definitely be back to shoot clays!!
