Just go here. As you drive along the very well paved winding mountain road through the forest, there are many turn off points which are well signed that lead to all manner of natural splendor. Many beautiful waterfalls, some of which you can Wade in the pools of, many beautiful Rocky cliffs, some of which you can jump off of, endless miles of crystal clear Rivers, that you can walk through, swim in, fish on etc. There are also many areas or you can pull off to have lunch, some with barbecues and picnic tables, some more primitive. There are busy places, solitary places and everything in between. There's miles and miles of biking and hiking trails. Whatever natural outdoor thrill you're looking for is very likely here, The vast majority of it is free, some attractions cost just a few bucks. For sure one of my favorite places to take my family.
I wish I had better planned the trip so I could have spent more time here. I was in awe of this waterfall. I’ve never seen anything like it. The hike there felt like a magical scavenger hunt- I saw so many vibrant mushrooms that I had never seen before. I want to come back to NC soon just to camp here and explore the entire park. The path to the waterfall had gravel and was really smooth. We didn’t bring our pups but it’s absolutely dog friendly! Remember- please don’t toss your trash out there!<3
The waterfalls at DuPont State Park are well worth the stop. Even though waterfalls are typically associated with elevation changes the falls we visited were fairly easily accessible. High Falls was definitely the highlight. An easy, slightly uphill, walk gives you a magnificent view. A more vigorous but doable trail takes you close to the base of the falls. Doing a little rock hopping and you can get within feet of base. Very enjoyable day and an unforgettable experience.
Excellent. I was intending to see Hookers Falls, but got adventurous and hiked Triple Falls and High Falls too. What a treat. Triple Falls was so beautiful. Although venturing to all of the falls was intense it was completely worth it. It took me about four hours to see them which wasn't bad..The trails and maintained and the bathrooms are clean. If you love chasing waterfalls this is a must see.
DuPont State Recreational Forest is (12,400) acres tucked away in Henderson/Transylvania Counties, NC. The weather was perfect! Had a great time hiking through a few trails, exploring different sections of the forest, including the visitors center. The waterfalls are breathtaking. There are (5) waterfalls in the forest. Lots to see and do, hiking, hunting, fishing 🎣 cycling 🚴🏽‍♂️ and there’s an equestrian 🐴 trail. Very crowded on the days I was there. Will definitely circle back this fall. Grateful I had an opportunity to visit. The world is a beautiful place, if you know where to look. “Where the water falls, peace rises.” from Journey Era Fun Fact: The Last of the Mohicans and the Hunger Games were filmed at various locations around DuPont Forest, including Hooker Falls, High Falls, Bridle Falls, Triple Falls, and other portions of the Forest. #NeverStopExploring🥾 #GetOutAndPlay🌞 #ProtectPreserveEnjoy🪾 #NCStateForest🌳 #HappyPlaces❤️ 8/2025
The walk to the waterfall was about 0.8 miles from the parking lot and really easy. The trail was nice, and the view at the end was beautiful. The waterfall is huge and peaceful, and we enjoyed just sitting and taking it all in. Some people were walking on the rocks near the bottom, which made it even more fun to watch. Definitely worth the visit — great for all ages!
Best State Forrest hands down. Several beautiful waterfalls. User friendly trails for everyone including children. Pet friendly. Scenic lake and streams. A nice Visitor Center with bathrooms. Decent amount of parking. I urge you to get there early. Other scenic places nearby too. I promise you will not be disappointed!
What a wonderful basic hiking experience - family friendly - the triple falls + high falls at the end were so beautiful - bring a lunch & sit down on the rocks at the High Falls base relax & enjoy the water splashing from the falls - we got rained on entired way back but was an adventure for sure.

Absolutely stunning, peaceful, and so much more. The view from this mountaintop chapel is unlike anything else—breathtaking in every direction and deeply moving. The presence of the cross overlooking the mountains fills your soul with peace and awe. It’s not just the view that makes this place special—it’s the quiet stillness, but the reverence in the air. Whether you’re here to reflect, pray, or just breathe in the beauty of creation, this sacred spot will leave a lasting mark on your heart. A must-visit if you’re in the area. Bring your camera and your spirit—you’ll leave refreshed.
Shooting at Pretty Place Chapel is always such a dream! The breathtaking mountain views and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the most stunning ceremony locations. The natural light pouring in through the open-air chapel creates such timeless, romantic images. The staff is kind and helpful, making the experience smooth for both couples and vendors. If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable backdrop for your wedding or elopement, Pretty Place is absolutely magical.
Fred W. Symmes Chapel dubbed “The pretty place” located in Cleveland, South Carolina is a beautiful chapel! The chapel sits up above Stone Mountain at 3200 ft with stunning panoramic mountain views. There’s something very nostalgic about this place; the cross, the energy, the peacefulness. It’s a great place to visit, meditate, pray, watch a sunrise and just absorb the atmosphere. Engagement proposals, weddings, church services, etc. also occur. Met a lot of nice people and it’s a very respectful environment. Went on a Sunday and it was extremely busy. A must see/experience. Will definitely circle back. Note: Please check their website for hours of operations for public access — as the open hours may fluctuate. Not pets allowed. #HappyPlaces❤️
The winding road has good signage for directions. The road slowly rolls up to a decent sized parking lot. There are portable restrooms in the parking area next to a donation box. The chapel is an open shelter that opens up to a spectacular view to the east. The view is breathtaking. The crowd was not too bad during my visit. Many was sitting and taking in the view. Just make sure to check the schedule before you go as it changes often. The day I visited was the only day that it was open to the public during that week. A few days earlier there were several days available.
I drove 9 hours to visit this chapel and I would do it again. It was so beautiful and I’m forever grateful that it’s open to the public. Definitely check the website before you go. From what I saw, they were open at sunrise, mid day and again at sunset. I got there an hour before they close for the afternoon and it was plenty of time to just sit there and soak it in. The pictures just don’t do it justice.
The Pretty Place Chapel is truly one of the most breathtaking spots I’ve ever visited. Perched high in the mountains with an open-air view that stretches endlessly across the Blue Ridge, it feels like a little piece of heaven on earth. The peaceful atmosphere, the fresh mountain air, and the panoramic views make it a place where you can’t help but feel inspired and grounded.
Absolutely stunning views! We went on a weekend and it was pretty crowded. It’s not like the pictures you see posted of a solitary place that you can go to meditate and pray. People were talking, laughing, and taking photos. We even saw a proposal there!! It was beautiful ♥️ Right before it closed I began to sing out loud a worship song. As soon as I did people all around quieted down to listen. I just wanted to focus on God and His creation while we were there. After I sang a verse it was closing time. I had several people approach me and thank me for singing. They said it helped them to focus on why they were there as well. It was lovely to see and so awe inspiring. It’s definitely worth the drive up!!
Its's the Most beautiful place i have even seen in my life! We were then around 7 and the traffic was backed up on the road due to no available parking but it was unusual for this to happen and it was worth the 1/4 mile walk to see that view!

This is a summer open air chapel with a different visiting minister each Sunday. The chapel is open one week before Memorial Day weekend through one week after Labor Day weekend. It is beautiful spiritual setting nestled slightly off the road in a wooded area. Faith Memorial Chapel was founded as Faith Chapel in the last part of the nineteenth century by the Rt. Reverend Ellison Capers D.D., the Confederate general, who later became Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina. The current chapel was constructed on land given in memory of Eugene Earle and Floride Lidia Croft Stone by their children. On July 10, 1938, Dr. Mitchell conducted the first worship service in the rustic log and stone chapel with a flagstone floor. At that time, Faith Memorial Chapel was dedicated to the memory of Bishop Capers. The existing chapel has seen several physical expansions, the last in 1994. From 1938 the attendance has grown in number and denominational preferences. Outstanding clergy representing many denominations have been included in the yearly summer programs. Check the website for this years list of clergy and musicians. Get there early for close parking and easy in and out. They do have a small handicap area. Christian funeral / memorial services may be held at Faith Memorial Chapel during the time the Chapel is Open. Family members of trustees, past and present, or summer congregation friends of the Chapel sponsored by a trustee are eligible. All arrangements, including who is officiating, must be provided upon application.
Absolutely wonderful time of worship here today. If you’re in the area on Sunday morning Memorial Day through Labor Day, you will love the open beautiful Chapel. The presence of The Lord is in this place!
Beautiful sanctuary. My daughter and I visited at sunset. It was quiet, and a nice place to rest and rejuvenate. In the summertime, there are such beautiful healing gardens with medicinal herbs of all kinds. 🥰
This Chapel has such a spiritual feel to it. The beautiful landscaping surrounding the open air design is amazing! The history of the building itself is wonderful.
Beautiful setting for a church service. The minister had some fine words to live by.
Great place for worship in a casual atmosphere
Great place to worship

We worked with Rob twice to have photos reproduced on metal. He was extremely helpful cropping and sizing our projects to our satisfaction. Both items needed mailing to us in Florida and arrived in a timely manor with incident. We would recommend Rob and his business for any photographic or framing needs you might have. Regardless of where you live. Thank you Rob for your expertise, guidance and quality craftsmanship.
We just picked up a larger than normal photograph that Blue Moon Gallery framed for us. They did a beautiful job on it! Rob Travis helped us pick out the right frame for the photo and he took it from there. It couldn't have been easier. Well done!
Rob blessed us today. We were told he would have some beautiful images. The visitor center sent us over. We still in and were greeted immediately with the most welcoming and warm man we have came across on our vacation. We are from Florida and we spoke about our visit to pretty place chapel. We had great conversation and we told him it would be such a dream to renew our vowels there. He took these beautiful photographs and as he saw it in my hand, he blessed us with it. We pray many blessings over this business. May his finances multiply! What a great heart. Fantastic images and I can't wait to go online and order from him. He deserves our purchase and rating. Stop by and say hi to Rob and his friendly dog! You'll get great conversation.
Framing almost always improves the piece, and even with my "hobby" acrylic/canvas pieces, this was true thanks to Rob's suggestions and quality of work. The gallery is full of interesting art, so going in to pick up my frame jobs has been enjoyable, and inspiring, too! Rob is a good communicator- phone, text or computer.
They have framed multiple collectibles for me including professional athletes and historical figures’ pictures and autographs. All have been beautifully done with precision and attention to detail. It is so nice to have a local resource to frame exactly to your specifications while implementing their own creativity into the projects. If you need something framed, Blue Moon Gallery and Frame is the place to go!
I originally went into the gallery for framing. Rob is easy to talk to and has a great eye. He helped me choose frames that enhance the art and suit my tastes. The quality of the framing is perfect. The gallery has beautiful original art by Rob and other artists and is welcoming.
Rob Travis at Blue Moon's photography is fantastic. We have bought several pieces over the years, the last one a stunning photo of "Pretty Place" a small chapel in the Blue Ridge mountains with an incredible mountain view. We also had it printed on a special metal that eliminated any need for additional framing. We have known Rob for about 15 years and love the way his business and photography skills have grown. We are proud to have his work in our home.
Blue Moon Gallery has done framing for us, and it's always been well done, looks great work! I highly recommend them if you need any pictures framed!
