Historic caves with a mystical charm The Arvalem Caves are rock-cut caves believed to date back to the 6th century. They are small but fascinating, giving a glimpse into Goa’s ancient history and Buddhist/Hindu influences. ✅ Peaceful spot, not crowded. ✅ Close to Harvalem Waterfalls and Rudreshwar Temple – can cover all three together. ✅ The caves are simple in design but carry a sense of mystery and history. Worth a short visit if you’re already at the waterfalls. Best for those who love history, archaeology, and offbeat places in Goa.
A Blend of History and Nature! Arvalem Caves and Falls offer the perfect combination of history and natural beauty. The caves, with their intriguing ancient architecture and serene atmosphere, are a treat for history buffs. The inscriptions and rock-cut chambers tell stories of a bygone era, making them a must-visit for anyone curious about Goa’s cultural past. Just a short walk away is the Arvalem Waterfall, which is absolutely breathtaking, especially during the monsoon. The cascading water surrounded by lush greenery is picture-perfect and so relaxing to watch. The sound of the water, the cool breeze, and the scenic views make it an ideal spot for nature lovers. The location is well-maintained and easy to explore, but it’s less crowded compared to other tourist spots in Goa.
A amazing waterfall to enjoy from distance( not to go inside stream) since flow was high during monsoon but you can enjoy mist/ spray flowing in reverse / upward direction. Got drenched in just 1-2 min. 10-12 km away there is keri foot bridge which is scenic view point. You can capture a wonderful photo there.
Arvalem Caves are a fascinating heritage spot in Goa. The rock-cut caves are simple yet historic, offering a peaceful vibe surrounded by nature. It will look good during rains
Ancient caves that have been there for so many years it’s a wonderful place to visit for people who love history archeology and anyone who is interested in our countries heritage.. they have these pithas inside which look like alien creations made by incredible people who remain unknown..
The history of these caves dates back to the 6th century, when they are believed to have been carved. Legend has it that the five Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata lived here during their time in exile. The cave is cut into five segments; lingas were discovered in three compartments. Each of the three shrines have the linga carved with inscriptions and set on a pitha, which is similar to those in the Ellora and Ajanta caves.
A must visit spot!! You'll enjoy the view. However, you'll not be allowed to go near the waterfall for photos / dip as it's a crocodile prone zone
They are nice but only if you want to see the waterfalls nearby or else too much trip for too less
