We recently took a one-day trip to the Big Apple, and it was a lovely experience, especially for the kids! The place is small but full of little joys – from the charming petting zoo to a fun gaming zone that kept the children entertained throughout. One of the highlights was walking inside the giant apple structure and reaching the top — the view from there was quite refreshing! Their bakery offers a variety of apple-themed goodies that smell divine, though slightly on the pricey side. Still, worth trying once for the experience. Overall, it’s a great short getaway spot if you're traveling with kids. Simple, fun, and filled with memories!
Very nice, cool building. “Did you know?” The Big Apple is the largest apple shaped structure in the entire WORLD! I think The Big Apple houses many apple themed products such as apples, (i think) apple pie, apple bread, and more! The washrooms are super cool themed and very clean. One of the sinks in the men’s bathroom, I believe the one closest to the door on the left when you enter, had really strong water pressure like a laser. There’s also a good amount of food trucks and ice cream too outside, as well as a sweets section in the building.
How cool is that? There’s endless possibilities of snacks and treats with apples. The Big Apple is such a vibe, goes to show how much you can do with one fruit. There is every kind of apple treat you can think of, pies, donuts, cider, candy apples, you name it! The petting zoo is cool too and the whole place just feels like the perfect little road trip stop with the family or friends. 100% worth it! 🍏
Everything was nice here from the freshly baked pies, donuts, chocolate, fudge and coffee. Cashier's nice and friendly. Over all the place is kept very nice and clean as well as the bathrooms. I have to admit the food that they serve was not great from the chicken fingers, fries and wraps. I was hungry so I ate the tasteless Caesar wrap. The turkey and cheddar sandwich was super disappointing due to a processed patty. The burger and hot dog was edible for the kids. Not sure about the oil they used, the fries and chicken was not enjoyable, even the kids couldn't eat it with ketchup. I figured the next day to re heat the fries in the air fryer they had a weird smell and taste. I threw them all out. I would not recommend the items I purchased at all. It was very disappointing $70 food purchase for 5 meals.
We swung by The Big Apple for what was meant to be just a quick stop, and wow, what a mistake! This place is seriously fun and has so much more going on than just the giant, iconic roadside attraction. We actually tried to come during the summer for the petting zoo, but by the time we finished with the animals, the big store was already closed. I'm so glad we got the chance to go inside today! I didn’t get as many photos as I wanted because we were too busy running around, but trust me, the main store inside is huge. It’s not just a gift shop; it's packed floor-to-ceiling with local jams, regional treats, amazing pies, and all sorts of fun novelty items. My quick stop turned into an hour instantly. If you're planning a trip, prepare to lose some time! You could easily spend 2 to 3 hours here just browsing, grabbing some delicious fresh-baked goods, and exploring the whole area. It’s a great spot for families or anyone needing a memorable, delicious pit stop. Highly recommend, but definitely don't rush it like we did!
You can really feel the passion of the owner in keeping The Big Apple thriving. The place offers a wonderful variety of food, freshly baked products, candies, and cider — all showcasing its lively spirit. With excellent parking for both cars and tour buses, it has truly become an iconic must-visit stop along Highway 401 heading east.
Great place to visit with your family and friends. They have a little bit of everything, food, gift, bakery, candies and even an pet zoo. The food was super tasty and the portion were very good, we were super impressed and satisfied with the flavour and prices of everything.
I love, love, love the Big Apple! I've been coming here for close to 30 years and it never disappoints. I was first here as a teenager and now my teenagers love it too. Stopped for lunch: had the amazing grilled cheese with ham (on apple bread, naturally!) and it was fantastic...kids had burgers and loved those too. Finished off with the delightful mini donuts for dessert. Good value, great selection and delicious tasting food: highly recommend! Also, the store has a huge variety of baked goods and various treats of all kinds. Was really thrilled to see the selection of gluten free trays too: well done (and thank you) for having such a great selection!

One of my go to country stores. Small store but they have alot of items I buy. They sell beautiful flowers outside. They have the best honey crisp apples. Staff are very helpful and pleasant.
Cute roadside attraction. There are many floral and vegetables to purchase at a decent price. I wish their food section was more extensive and if there was more involved staff to direct us. But overall a great experience for a stop and shop.
Best place for local produce and some other grocery items. They stock Ontario produce whenever possible and in season. Huge selection of plants (depending on the time of year) and even have a cat wandering around. Their prices are extremely reasonable and you get to support a local family. Can't ask for much more, staff are always super friendly and helpful.
Great place to get your hanging flowers from. Very reasonable prices. Friendly staff and lots of goodies. The one picture is comparing a Costco bought hanger on the right to a hanger bought here. $4 cheaper and much bigger and healthier plant.
Fresh baked goods, organic fruits and produce, beautiful lovely plant pots, gluten free cakes baked , we just loved it.
I go here all the time. Great quality produce, fresh bread, and it's just nice to have a place like this to support local growers.
Great selection of local fruit and vegetables. Prices are reasonable. Dave's strawberries were so sweet and juicy. Also has a nice selection of baked goods.
I love shopping there. Fresh veggies, a bit pricey than store bought. Has lots of beautiful plants and flowers there.

So fun! Definitely recommend. The alpacas are well socialized and friendly. They also have several Great Pyrenees and two beautiful cats that also love attention. Just an overall great experience to enjoy with your family and friends. My friend and I lucked out and it was just the two of us during our time slot. Don’t worry, they have someone with you at all times to guide you on the walk and feed the alpacas.
100% recommend!!! We love this cute and educational farm, the owner Amy is very warm, friendly and knowledgeable, the staff is very sincere and helpful as well!! We’re here when the alpacas at their full fur stage, they are so adorable!! This is a farm that will heal and calm your soul!! Great for everyone!! There’s a cute shop upstairs, you can attend their workshops for handcrafting. I bought a pair of super comfy alpaca socks, OMG they are sooooo soft, warm and comfortable!!! Thank you for letting us visiting your beautiful farm on a rainy day!! Everyone, let’s come and support this wonderful farm, support Canadian local businesses 🇨🇦🦙
A truly brilliant little farm, with beautiful animals, lead by fantastic people. Cannot recommend a visit highly enough. Went there with our 9 & 11yr old boys. They loved walking the Alpacas, and visiting the boys and girls fields and barns. (Our 9yr old described it as the best bit of our 2.5wk holiday in Ontario!). P.S. If you plan to visit from the UK, take Amy a Toffee Crisp! xxx
My husband knows how much I love alpacas and I was sleeping in the car and he surprised me by taking me here. It was last minute but they took us in and gave us a great tour, the gentleman was very knowledgeable and the alpacas were soo cute and fluffy 😍 Also loved seeing the dogs and cats! I highly recommend coming to check this place out.
Amy, Franklin, and Joanna were amazing hosts. They invited me, my dad, my brother, and my mom for a Mother’s Day tour. We paid for the full tour, walk an Alpaca, and apple snacks. They shared so much knowledge and affection for the alpacas. It was contagious how much they appreciate their animals and land. Alpacas are super soft and each has their own standout personality.
We booked on line for the alpaca trek and farm tour $45. We drove up and it’s not that far from the Main Street. There’s parking for 2 or 3 cars. We saw a large barn and made our way up to it. We were 10 minutes early. There was a young girl and her mother and they said Hi. We said Hi and looked around for someone in charge. We made our way upstairs and it looked like a class room. After we went downstairs and saw an older lady in coveralls who we assumed must be the owner. She said that she was waiting for 3 more people. When they came she gave us each an alpaca and told us how to handle them. We walked from the barn to another area that had the females and we dropped off the males and got to feed the females apples. Then we made our way back to the starting barn and dropped off the males. She was very knowledgeable about alpacas and I leaned lots of stuff. She mentioned that we could go upstairs and look around. We had already went up there and it had the usual farm smell so we said that’s fine. She said we could pick from packs of garden seeds to plant. She got them donated from a grocery store. I know the we paid for barn tour but it was just walking from the barn to another paddock. I would have liked to see a little sample of the wool and the process of how it’s handled. Or a tour of the actual barn. I felt like it was lacking. The owner was friendly and you could see she loved her alpacas. The staff was friendly and the lady took our picture with her iPhone then air dropped to our phone. I was looking for more of a barn feel. Like other animals involved.
The farm is beautifully maintained, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The tour was well-organized, giving us ample time to enjoy each part of the experience without feeling rushed. Interacting with the alpacas was a highlight. These adorable and gentle animals made the visit truly memorable. We had the opportunity to feed them with apples and take photos, which was a lot of fun. The staff shared interesting facts about the alpacas and the farm. Additionally, the farm has a charming gift shop with a variety of high-quality alpaca wool products. Old Mills Alpaca Farm offers a fun, friendly, and engaging experience that I highly recommend. It’s a great way to spend a day, and I’m looking forward to visiting again!
10 out of 5 stars!! We met Amy and Eric, two super nice, sincere and friendly hosts/owner! We learned a LOT of fun and educational facts from this short visit. Our favorite Alpaca has to be Cordero who kept coming over to me, even though we had no food and other visitors had for him lol! Will definitely return with more people. Thank you Amy and Eric!!
