Bakery
The Big Apple in Colborne is a popular roadside attraction that offers a variety of activities for visitors. From counter-serve dining to mini golf and kiddie train rides, there's something for everyone. The venue features a bakery, cidery, country store, and market, making it an ideal stopover during any season. Visitors can enjoy mouth-watering dishes like pulled pork sandwiches and smoked chicken wraps at the Smokehouse Kitchen.
We recently took a one-day trip to the Big Apple, and it was a lovely experience, especially for the kids! The place is small but full of little joys – from the charming petting zoo to a fun gaming zone that kept the children entertained throughout. One of the highlights was walking inside the giant apple structure and reaching the top — the view from there was quite refreshing! Their bakery offers a variety of apple-themed goodies that smell divine, though slightly on the pricey side. Still, worth trying once for the experience. Overall, it’s a great short getaway spot if you're traveling with kids. Simple, fun, and filled with memories!

Very nice, cool building. “Did you know?” The Big Apple is the largest apple shaped structure in the entire WORLD! I think The Big Apple houses many apple themed products such as apples, (i think) apple pie, apple bread, and more! The washrooms are super cool themed and very clean. One of the sinks in the men’s bathroom, I believe the one closest to the door on the left when you enter, had really strong water pressure like a laser. There’s also a good amount of food trucks and ice cream too outside, as well as a sweets section in the building.
Max N — Google review
How cool is that? There’s endless possibilities of snacks and treats with apples. The Big Apple is such a vibe, goes to show how much you can do with one fruit. There is every kind of apple treat you can think of, pies, donuts, cider, candy apples, you name it! The petting zoo is cool too and the whole place just feels like the perfect little road trip stop with the family or friends. 100% worth it! 🍏

Everything was nice here from the freshly baked pies, donuts, chocolate, fudge and coffee. Cashier's nice and friendly. Over all the place is kept very nice and clean as well as the bathrooms. I have to admit the food that they serve was not great from the chicken fingers, fries and wraps. I was hungry so I ate the tasteless Caesar wrap. The turkey and cheddar sandwich was super disappointing due to a processed patty. The burger and hot dog was edible for the kids. Not sure about the oil they used, the fries and chicken was not enjoyable, even the kids couldn't eat it with ketchup. I figured the next day to re heat the fries in the air fryer they had a weird smell and taste. I threw them all out. I would not recommend the items I purchased at all. It was very disappointing $70 food purchase for 5 meals.

I love, love, love the Bog Apple! I've been coming here for close to 30 years and it never disappoints. I was first here as a teenager and now my teenagers love it too. Stopped for lunch: had the amazing grilled cheese with ham (on apple bread, naturally!) and it was fantastic...kids had burgers and loved those too. Finished off with the delightful mini donuts for dessert. Good value, great selection and delicious tasting food: highly recommend! Also, the store has a huge variety of baked goods and various treats of all kinds. Was really thrilled to see the selection of gluten free trays too: well done (and thank you) for having such a great selection!
Jennifer O — Google review
Stopped in for a quick lunch. Food was not great. Had the grilled cheese. Perhaps it was the slices of cheddar but it wasn't very flavorful. Or it could have been the extra grease. Either way, it fell short. The apple slices in the middle were new to me. The burger was ok but fell short also. However, if you're looking for a cool spot to stop, shop, eat, play mini golf and petting zoo, this is a great spot.
Rich C — Google review
At The Big Apple, there are many different apple-themed desserts. I tried the Apple Bread—the moment you pick it up, you can feel its hefty weight. The surface carries a buttery aroma, and each bite is chewy yet still soft, with a light touch of cinnamon and sweetness. For the Gourmet Tarts, I chose the Maple Bacon flavor. The maple’s sweetness blends beautifully with the savory bacon, creating a rich and well-balanced taste without being overly heavy.
Stephy L — Google review
Very nice experience. Feeding the animals are so fun. They seem to be very friendly. Food tasted good. The market seems to have fresh produce. Their chocolate milk is outstanding. Im not a apple pie person. But wanted try, it was too sweet for me.

So fun! Definitely recommend. The alpacas are well socialized and friendly. They also have several Great Pyrenees and two beautiful cats that also love attention. Just an overall great experience to enjoy with your family and friends. My friend and I lucked out and it was just the two of us during our time slot. Don’t worry, they have someone with you at all times to guide you on the walk and feed the alpacas.

100% recommend!!! We love this cute and educational farm, the owner Amy is very warm, friendly and knowledgeable, the staff is very sincere and helpful as well!! We’re here when the alpacas at their full fur stage, they are so adorable!! This is a farm that will heal and calm your soul!! Great for everyone!! There’s a cute shop upstairs, you can attend their workshops for handcrafting. I bought a pair of super comfy alpaca socks, OMG they are sooooo soft, warm and comfortable!!! Thank you for letting us visiting your beautiful farm on a rainy day!! Everyone, let’s come and support this wonderful farm, support Canadian local businesses 🇨🇦🦙

My husband knows how much I love alpacas and I was sleeping in the car and he surprised me by taking me here. It was last minute but they took us in and gave us a great tour, the gentleman was very knowledgeable and the alpacas were soo cute and fluffy 😍 Also loved seeing the dogs and cats! I highly recommend coming to check this place out.

Amy, Franklin, and Joanna were amazing hosts. They invited me, my dad, my brother, and my mom for a Mother’s Day tour. We paid for the full tour, walk an Alpaca, and apple snacks. They shared so much knowledge and affection for the alpacas. It was contagious how much they appreciate their animals and land. Alpacas are super soft and each has their own standout personality.
Trent — Google review
The farm is beautifully maintained, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The tour was well-organized, giving us ample time to enjoy each part of the experience without feeling rushed. Interacting with the alpacas was a highlight. These adorable and gentle animals made the visit truly memorable. We had the opportunity to feed them with apples and take photos, which was a lot of fun. The staff shared interesting facts about the alpacas and the farm. Additionally, the farm has a charming gift shop with a variety of high-quality alpaca wool products. Old Mills Alpaca Farm offers a fun, friendly, and engaging experience that I highly recommend. It’s a great way to spend a day, and I’m looking forward to visiting again!

10 out of 5 stars!! We met Amy and Eric, two super nice, sincere and friendly hosts/owner! We learned a LOT of fun and educational facts from this short visit. Our favorite Alpaca has to be Cordero who kept coming over to me, even though we had no food and other visitors had for him lol! Will definitely return with more people. Thank you Amy and Eric!!

We loved our visit here on Victoria Day. Amy and Julian were very patient with the tour. Amy really loves the Alpacas and her passion and love comes through when she’s talking about them. We loved the Alpacas and also the dogs, they are so big and friendly :) It was a good time experience to feed the Alpacas apples. It was amazing to see Amy call out and the girl Alpacas all come and form a line, wish our kids were like that 😂 All in all, a good way to spend an hour with the Alpacas and feel good.

This hidden gem has consistently showcased captivating artworks through its well-managed and thoughtfully curated juried shows, while also offering a rotational display of local artistic talents. The gallery's petite size adds to its charm, with the heritage room being particularly noteworthy for its fascinating pieces.

Hiking area
The Mud Lake Conservation Area encompasses a shallow lake that serves as a habitat for diverse water birds. This nature reserve offers three trails of varying lengths, providing opportunities for long-distance photography. It is advisable to bring rubber boots in case of rain, as the hike can get muddy. However, note that this park is not wheelchair accessible. The terrain is relatively flat with no significant hills, making it suitable for individuals of all ages.
Beautiful place to go for a walk, 3 different trails to choose from. Definitely will be coming back again.
Christina C — Google review
It is a conservation area with 3 trails of different lengths around a shallow lake that various water birds inhabit. Bring your camera for some long shots. On rainy days have your rubber boots ready. My pictures were only taken with my tablet which wasn't great for getting good shots of the birds swimming on the lake. Not a wheelchaír friendly hike.
Pamela B — Google review
Trails have been cleaned up and widened. Potentially muddy after a big rain. Perfect length for a family hike.
Harold M — Google review
It would have been pretty if it had been better maintained or groomed, a shame for sure. We couldn't really finish any of the loops from the map as some had too much mud, others had too much high grass we were sure we'd catch a ton of ticks. Had to duck and weave around bushes and overhead growth. It did have free parking for a few cars which I guess... Is a plus?
Roanna M — Google review
Very easy hike, no major hills good for people of all ages. Bring boots its a muddy hike. I have heard major problems with ticks in the warmer months, can not confirm that as I have only been during the colder season.
Keith — Google review
Nice trails, have been taking the kids for short afternoon hikes. Think we'll try the longer blue trail soon.

During a recent visit to Trenton, I discovered the delightful BeaverTails, which has just opened its doors. The warm and inviting atmosphere instantly made me feel at home, and the staff greeted me with friendly smiles. The food was prepared quickly and tasted absolutely divine! My adventure didn’t stop there; I also enjoyed some amazing treats from the BeaverTail truck at the Belleville Multicultural Festival.
Was in Trenton and was told a store had just opened up there. It was my first time going, will definitely be back for more AND will be bringing all the kids with me to try to adventure park! What a fun idea!!! Was greeted with a smile, and a warm inviting atmosphere. The food was prepped quickly and tasted divine!
Jolena W — Google review
First time eating a Beavertail pastry, and it was delicious. We made the mistake of getting one each, which was too much for us! Should have got one between us!
Shona N — Google review
This was the worst beavertail I've ever had. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because even though it was the worst one I've had, it was edible enough for me to finish it. The dough was way too thin in the middle to the point there were holes and way too crunchy. It also tasted way more oily than usual and seemed overcooked. I was disappointed as this was my "annual" beavertail and it sucked. It also took 25 minutes to even get it...
Nikki B — Google review
My mother and boyfriend and I went to the belleville multi cultural festival and the beavertail truck was there we had these amazing treats and a Poutine that didn't make the picture as we eat that first and fast very nice team working there thank you kindly 😀 👍 👏 😊 would highly recommend
Cally C — Google review
It is obvious that this is not a full time Beaver Tails location. It was hard to find once inside the big apple, once ordered it took a good amount of time and then it was not the same doughy experience we are used to. The pastry was over cooked and misshaped.
Olivia S — Google review
Don’t bother they don’t have anyone that knows what they’re doing or knows how to make anything so they’re just closed when they want to be
I R — Google review
Happy to have this place in Peterborough, as always delicious food and very unique atmosphere
Muhammed H — Google review
Normally I’d give this place 5 stars. I went to the counter today and BEFORE I could even place my order the lady at the counter just shouts NO, NO, NO. YOU CAN’T GET IT. Gives me an excuse about how she ran out of stuff and it has to heat up. Fine, but don’t start yelling no at me before I say my order. That is HORRIBLE customer service. If something isn’t working that’s fine. But learn better customer service for when you’re dealing with the public and don’t yell no at them repeatedly.

The owners of Pomona set a great example for other businesses by creating a welcoming and appreciative atmosphere for their guests. Lisa and her team are attentive to customers' needs, providing excellent service. The food at Pomona is consistently exceptional, no matter what is ordered. It's hard to express just how good this establishment is! The experience there is truly remarkable, with patrons often so enthralled by the delicious-looking dishes that they forget to take pictures before diving in.
I had the Pasta allá Genovese. It was the best pasta I’ve had since I was in Italy 20 years ago! Instead of a traditional red or white sauce, the “sauce” was made of beef and onion. The pasta was homemade and slightly al dente - it paired perfectly with the tender beef. I look forward to visiting this restaurant frequently and seeing what else it has to offer.
Gina B — Google review
Loved it! Reminds me of places back home! Our server was so friendly and helpful. It’s a little pricey that’s the downside of it. Crème brûlée tasted different than any other place, it was so delicious! Burrata was so tasty, all the ingredients were fresh! definitely a must try restaurant!

This little hidden gem needs all the attention! The attention to detail is unmatched and the hospitality will make us remember our meal for a very long time. The food with keep us coming back. Fresh, seasonal, local ingredients make every bite a delight!

I’ve been to this lovely Italian restaurant twice; it’s a welcome addition to a strip in Colborne that feels as though it’s on the cusp of a transformation. Service and atmosphere are perfect. It’s a warm, cozy space. The staff are friendly and attentive. All mains excellent although the salmon was a trifle overcooked the first time (cod was perfect the second time). Excellent flourless chocolate cake. My one “complaint” is that I would have enjoyed an espresso with dessert but it sadly isn’t available. Not a deal-breaker though! Will definitely go back.
R. P — Google review
My husband and I had the best meal tonight to celebrate our anniversary. As locals, we are proud Lisa(owner), husband and family have blessed our community with their passion to give us food made from love using a true farm to table approach and a great dining experience. Book a reservation, you won’t be disappointed!
Care B — Google review
What a delightful spot! We came on a Friday evening in early December. A reservation is probably a good idea as there is limited seating. Our server Meagan was super friendly and efficient. Food portions were very generous. Everything was delicious, made with fresh ingredients in house, served piping hot. Desserts are made in house too. There is a limited wine list but with a good variety of price - something for every budget. This place is brand new and will quickly be the best place in town. Get here quick!

Beach
Nature & Parks
Nickel Beach, also known as Drive In Beach, is a popular spot in Ontario. It's the last remaining drive-on beach in the area where visitors can park their cars just a few feet from the lake and enjoy swimming and tailgating. The beach offers free access to Port Colborne residents and limits daily capacity to 200 paid visitor passes to prevent overcrowding. It's advisable to book tickets in advance as entry may be refused when the beach reaches full capacity.
Nice shallow beach, great for kids, parking can be pricey depending on where you park, the closer one is more expensive than ones further away although it’s only a 5 minute walk max. The place has restrooms as well. Beach is well maintained, lots of space to choose from included some shaded areas although it’ll be quite far from the water, and the beach in general is long and wide so that even on busy days you shouldn’t feel too cramped as is the case for other Ontario beaches, worst case scenario there’s other beaches along Lake Erie you can choose from that are a short driving distance away if Nickel beach isn’t to your liking.
Yassin M — Google review
Safe, clean, beautiful, regulated. Clean bathrooms/change rooms Paid parking ($5/hr) with a short walk to beach. Paid life jackets. Dog zone (Beach rule: must be on leash at all times)

Great beach.. been to other's in the area, but they had horrible bugs, and the water smelled, so we kept coming back to nickel ., It never disappointed
Derek H — Google review
Nickel Beach is one of Port Colborne’s most popular summer destinations, offering a wide sandy shoreline and drive-up beach access (seasonal permit required). The shallow waters of Lake Erie are warm and ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, or relaxing with family and friends. Portable washrooms are available, and food trucks occasionally visit during peak times. While amenities are basic, the convenience of parking on the sand and the laid-back vibe make it a favourite for locals and tourists alike. Best enjoyed on weekdays or early mornings to avoid crowds.
Birenda — Google review
Beautiful beach/ lac , still can’t believe this is in Canada. However get ready to pay 60$ for parking, oh but if it’s too much you can go to cedars beach and pay 35$.
The 6 — Google review
August 2022 5* This is our first visit to Nikel Beach and I am already planning to visit again. The most important thing, Reservation is must specially on weekend. You will not get entry otherwise. Will cost around $50 per car. The beach is super clean and water is clean. Best sand (white) I saw in Ontario. You can enjoy swimming and water support with kids. Make sure to carry your tent and umbrella as there is no natural shading. You need to have some space. There is permanent toilet on the beach but have installed porta toilets. I did not use them so not sure if it was clean. The sand dune can be high for car at certain point and your vehicle can stuck if it is not 4X4. Don’t get panic and feel free to ask help or remove little bit sand before moving vehicles.
Jaspal S — Google review
Nice beach. However, parking was so expensive. 35 cad for unpaved parking? Also, house rules on the website states "no excessive noise", yet our neighbour was blasting their music throughout the day. Security came over multiple times but they just don't listen and security seemed just fine with it. I mean, what's the point of having all these rules if you can't implement it consistently?
Jg R — Google review
Beautiful beach to spent some time in nature, its quiet, well maintained and a good spot to go on a picnic with family and relax. One thing we found a little inconvenient was the parking fee policy which happens to be for a day rather than for hours.

When visiting Port Colborne, a must-see attraction is the Port Promenade located on West Street. This well-maintained boardwalk offers stunning views of Lock 8, the southernmost lock of the Welland Canal and Lake Erie. The promenade is lined with boutique stores where visitors can find unique gifts and enjoy artisanal chocolate or a quick bite to eat. It's a picturesque spot to watch ships passing through the canal while enjoying the beautifully landscaped surroundings.
Port Promenade was the best part of our day trip to Port Colborne! The sun was shining and it was warming up a bit on the chilly October day that we went. This is where we got the best view of some really big ships going along the canal ... probably the biggest I've ever seen in my entire life! It appeared they wouldn't make it through the locks, but they did! It was such a nice walk along the water and there were lots of lovely shops lining the street on the opposite side. We ventured into the gift shop and the jewellery store where the workers were very knowledgeable and helpful. It was so nice to sit down in the Adirondack/Muskoka chairs afterwards and just enjoy the peace and tranquility. It was a great way to end a wonderful day! 😊👍💜

Port Colborne is a great place for a day trip. The promenade area is nice to walk, enjoy watching cruise ships on the lake, little cute shops, cafes etc. Later, take a history walk in this town covering areas of friendship trail, old fashioned bridge, downtown, railway marine museum, well land canal etc.

We stumbled onto Port Promenade via TripAdvisor. It's a nice small port with a cool looking bridge (that is remotely controlled). The water is calm and there are plenty of quaint shops along the port/pier. Grab some fish and chips or some small treats and walk along the port.

Port Promenade is a charming waterfront walkway along West Street, offering scenic views of the Welland Canal and a front-row seat to passing ships. The promenade features benches, flower beds, public art, and easy access to local shops and cafés. It’s ideal for a relaxed stroll, people-watching, or pairing with a visit to nearby Lock 8 Gateway Park. Seasonal events and markets add vibrancy in warmer months. Clean, accessible, and well-integrated with the downtown core—this is Port Colborne’s social and scenic heart.

Date of visit: May 2nd A Whimsical Step Through Time! ⚓ For years, we have been visiting Port Colborne and often said – we should go visit that Museum, but for one reason or another, it never happened. So, during our little Welland Canal History Road trip getaway, we made it a plan to visit all of the Museums. Our visit to the Port Colborne Historical & Marine Museum was an absolute delight! Even before the full season launch, this charming spot offered a taste of its magic—and let’s just say, we’re already planning our return. The current exhibit, ‘Step Right Up’, is pure nostalgia and curiosity rolled into one. We stepped under the big top and found ourselves immersed in a playful, mysterious world filled with rarely-seen artifacts, each with its own quirky backstory. It’s a brilliant way to celebrate the museum’s 50 years of collecting—and it truly feels like they brought out their most fantastic treasures just for this moment. I grew up in Crystal Beach, and there were many artefacts pertaining to the good old days of Crystal Beach Amusement Park, and other items from the town’s heyday. This brought back many great childhood memories. The museum grounds are beautiful and tranquil, perfect for a slow stroll and soaking up the local heritage. And a huge shoutout to the warm and welcoming docent, who brought the exhibits to life with insightful stories and genuine enthusiasm—we felt right at home. Although Arabella’s Tea Room wasn’t open yet, just peeking through the windows was enough to get us excited for a future visit. We can already imagine sipping tea and enjoying homemade treats in that cozy setting once the season is in full swing. While I am disappointed we hadn’t made it into the museum before now – I have to say – I am very glad we went when we did – because not only is it their 50th anniversary – but the Step Right Up exhibit was so beautifully curated, it was the highlight of the visit. Good job on curating this beautiful local history museum. Admission is ‘free’ but please leave a donation to help them continue doing fantastic work. There is street parking – and a couple of nearby lots.

Excellent museum with numerous outbuildings, great blacksmith shop authentically equipped. Excellent period tea room with scones (tea biscuits) and servers in period dress. Bone china cups and tea pots.

Very nice set up! I noticed kid friendly areas so it would be good for families. The grounds are shaded. The exhibits are nicely displayed.

Brewpub
Breakwall Brewing Company, located in Port Colborne, pays tribute to the town's rich history by showcasing local iconic and historically significant images throughout their establishment. This brewpub acknowledges that Port Colborne had its first brewing operation in 1852, but unfortunately had to close during the prohibition era in 1919. Recently visited this establishment and tried one of their beers along with their renowned fried chicken sandwich.
We came across the street from work for a great lunch. Our server was awesome - friendly and energetic which was great. The reviews were great on the beers. I had the pretzel which was delicious. Other great reviews on the pizza! Breakwall is great - we walked around the block as it was a gorgeous day. Great spot to appreciate how nice downtown is on a sunny fall day. Will definitely be back.

Walked downtown and came across breakwall brewery in Port Colborne today. Decided to try them for lunch and it was great! Fast service, clean restaurant and a fantastic menu variety! Pictured is the smash burger with fries, 6oz glass of rosé wine. Everything had so much flavour and wonderful portion sizes! First time coming and I will be back! — at Breakwall Brewing Company.

Nice place with good food, drinks and service. We're not beer drinkers, but the whisky sour was great and the Long Island Iced Tea was good, if a bit heavy on the tequila. Double Double pizza was particularly good. Wings were good. Philly cheese steak sandwich was really good, but not a lot of steak on it. Fried chicken sandwich was a bit of a disappointment.

Had dinner (party of 4) during Canal Days. My Breakwall Burger was juicy and perfectly done. Others in our party had salad, cauliflower bites and a different burger and everyone enjoyed their meals. We ordered three different beers and they paired well with our respective meals. Attentive and quick service given how busy it was with the Festival going on. We will be back!

Our first time here. We were looking forward to having a nice place to sit on a patio outside during perfect summer weather have a beer and have a snack. (Although inside looked really nice as well) We were so disappointed when our server told us that the ONLY way that we could have a beer menu or a food menu was to use our device and a QR code. That was it. Although I thought I saw a stack of printed paper menus sitting in a basket near the front door, she says no, it is a recent management decision that only QR codes are going to be used now for our menus. We CAN'T give you anything else...no printed menu. So, we just ordered a Hopkins tomb stout (which we had enjoyed at canal side restaurant recently), and did not order any food. We went down the street to Wendy's instead. Being forced to use QR codes to access a restaurants menu (as well as being forced to use a QR code in order to park on certain streets in Port Colborne) is extremely off-putting as a visitor to the city, and will be affecting the amount of money that we personally will spend in town.

I really enjoy visiting this brewery, the atmosphere, the beer selection, and the community events (especially the trivia nights!) make it such a great local spot. I would love to see the menu expanded a bit, maybe with some upgraded food options and a small kids’ menu to make it easier for families to come by. On busy days, the service can feel a bit uneven. It might help to make sure all staff are in good spirits and ready to welcome guests, that extra bit of warmth goes a long way. Overall, I love the place and the idea behind it, and I’m excited to see it grow even more!

We ate outside. The food and beer was excellent and so was the service. Not any complaints. I recommend you try it!

The venue is perfect for hosting weddings, special occasions, family events, and business seminars, accommodating groups of various sizes ranging from intimate gatherings to larger events.
Nice small intimate venue, seen Pearl, Janis Joplin tribute band, no bad seat in the house, the volunteers were great

Quality community theater. Worth the drive to Port Colborne, take in a dinner and live theater. Also, parking is free!

We went to a matinee to see Hidden Treasures, which was 2 one-act plays. First was amazing, one of the best I've ever seen. Second started strong but ended weak. The theatre seating is comfortable. We sat on the main floor in the second row and Cheryl's view was a bit blocked by those in front of us. We recommend front row seating or seating along the side or back stadium seating areas.
