A nice but basic zoo to visit, there are multiple animals kept at quite basic conditions. Many farm animals and birds also. The cages seem sometimes too small for the animals, it's a bit difficult to get around the perimeter and the cages are made mostly from a very dense grid metal fence that just makes it very hard to see the animals. But still, overall it's a nice place to visit, you get to see crocodiles, monkeys, jaguars and more. Important: Bring a bug repellant spray. Price: 18$ for 2 adults and 2 children. There is a single toilet near the entrance. Not crowded. Most of the time you walk on grass, that might be wet during the rainy season. The visit would take you about an hour. Some basic snacks can be bought near the entrance. A good combination with this zoo visit would be a short one hour hike of the square trees path that is only a few minutes drive from there: "Square Trees Nature Trail (Arboles Cuadrados)"
This place had been around forever. I used to come here on school field trips when I was a child. And we always like it because We didn't know better. Now, as an adult, after 30 years, I realized that these poor animals are very stressed, and some look very sad. The peacocks and some of the parrots have no feathers. The tapirs look sad 😔. I know they are trying to do the best they can with the resources they have, but it's heartbreaking to see. The plants and greenery looked healthy, and they have reasonable prices for the plants that they have for sale. I was told I could buy quails, but they only had the white ones, so I passed. I wanted them as pets that lay eggs. As you will see in my pictures, I enjoyed the plants and greenery than the animals we saw.
The zoo is small and basic, but there are many animals to see. Suggest reserving at least 2 hours to walk around in this place.
Although it is a small zoo, it is quite relaxing to walk around and seeing the animals. Best part was the birds. Only downside was seeing the larger cats, caymans and coyotes in small enclosures.
It was very interesting to watch. A lot of animals and was pretty fun to trail.
Nice little zoo its cool and shaded. Bring water.
Too many chickens together in very confined, small cages. The smell was overwhelming in these areas. Some animals were kept in cages located in areas that were very muddy and wet so their feathers were wet, tattered and dirty. Some of the parrot cages had no toys or things for them to chew or play with. One Toucan was in a smallish cage all by itself and was frantically pacing and flying from side to side. I couldn't understand why it wasn't with the other Toucans a few cages down in a bigger cage. Likewise, the coyote cage was very tiny with nothing for him to engage with except for a small dog house - he looked so sad. Some monkeys were housed together in a large cage, but there was one all by itself in a very small and confined cage, that was pacing back and forth which is a sign of stress. When we came upon a cage filled with budgies, there was a dead one lying in the corner on the ground, and another beside it with what appeared to be 'chewed off' wings and tail. My heart was broken at the sight of this. I only give this review a one-star rating because I'm not sure they accept a zero star rating. I feel so sad for these animals. This zoo should be shut down!
This was a nice visit. The grounds are gorgeous. When I started walking in I was skeptical. But then we saw some amazing animals. And the place is very big. Good value for the money. It’s a nice hike. I was a bit sad to see such beautiful birds caged but also, if they were not in cages we wouldn’t be able to see them.

Great experience. You get inside the area and you can walk freely. After you finish searching and filming the butterflies, there is a guide who gives explanations about some of the butterflies - their life circle and other information. Highly recommended and great service.
We were glad to see the Google opening hours listed were accurate. We arrived, found parking available and purchased tickets easily. Pricing was very reasonable. We didn't watch the documentary but that was available. We were able to walk very slowly and make this a meditative experience then though there were quite a lot of visitors coming through. Everyone just worked their way around us. No matter how long you were in there, it seemed like new coloured and patterned butterflies kept appearing. We truly enjoyed it. We finished off with a bit of souvenir shopping where bracelets, mugs, honey etc are available. Restrooms were clean and very accessible.
Great experience. Get there when sunny as the butterflies are more active. Friendly informative and educational staff.
What a wonderful surprise!! I have visited other butterfly conservatories (Mariposarios), in several other countries, but never one that had such a large number of butterflies in a relatively small space. They were there by the hundreds, flying all around us as we walked through. Following the unlimited time in the conservatory they had a bilingual guide explain and demonstrate the butterfly eggs, caterpillar stage and plant that they feed on and how they collect the eggs for breeding. They also had a nice short film in English from PBS on the whole butterfly cycle. I rate this experience “Wonderful “
A Hidden Gem in El Valle – Especially for Italians! 🇮🇹🦋 We visited Butterfly Haven in El Valle de Antón yesterday and were truly enchanted. A young, passionate guide walked us through the fascinating life cycle of butterflies, sharing not just facts but the full story with genuine enthusiasm. His love for what he does was contagious, and our curiosity seemed to inspire him even more—he went above and beyond to make the experience memorable. Later, we met the owner, Ruben, who happens to be from Rome—what a joy to meet a fellow Italian so far from home! He was incredibly kind, even offering us a ride to the bus stop. That’s what I call Italian friendship: warm, spontaneous, and heartfelt. Butterfly Haven is a beautiful, peaceful place that deserves much more attention, especially from Italians who often stick to Panama City. If you're Italian and planning a trip to Panama, don’t miss the chance to explore beyond the capital. El Valle is lush, welcoming, and full of surprises—and Butterfly Haven is one of its brightest. Sending warm greetings from an Italian-Colombian couple who left with smiles and gratitude. Grazie mille, Ruben!
Great place to visit! Especially with kids. There are 2 areas filled with butterflies, a room explaining the process of the butterflies maturing and a short 5 minutes video. But the visit can take you easily an hour due to the time the children run around chasing butterflies. There is an English speaking guide. The place is located under a rooftop, so can be visited during rain.
Very cute place to go see butterflies. Worth a stop if you are in the area!
Its a good experience very short but has a wow effect once you enter, even for locals, you won't be wanting to go back, it's just a very quick stop, and very short experience.

Breathtaking falls, crisp streams, bridges that make you want to jump. Wish I had worn my suit to swim in the natural pool. Be sure to take the walking stick they offer. The path can be slippery.
Nice place to visit while in the Anton Valley. This cascada is nestled in a little rainforest canyon area just outside of town. There is a short but interesting trail with hanging bridges and beautiful vistas. You can zip line if you choose and there is a small swimming area at the base for swimming and relaxing. Happy I went and enjoyed the interesting scenery.
Enjoyed a nice hour here on a cloudy day. The falls themselves are quite impressive and the bridges/walkways do their job well. The natural pools are a construction built on a diversion of the stream many meters after the falls themselves. However we did not canopy or zip line because of the price. 20$ for a single zip line and full ride for 65$ is too much for my tastes, I’d bet they have more turnover if they halved the price, but that’s just my opinion, maybe they sell all the time :) All in all, I would still recommend a visits.
It's a one-time adventure with five zip lines across the jungle and one over the Chorro Macho cascade. You can also walk through the forest in a well maintained trails and bridges to get a front view of the Chorro Macho. I don't recommend toddlers or elderly but the access is not restricted. You SHOULD finish in the ~24° C cold pool, with running water directly from the cascade. Not wheelchair accessible to the zip lines or jungle, but with little effort people with disabilities can reach the natural pool. I have to highlight the very nice people attending the site, that will explain to you every detail of the tour and will guide you safely. You can choose tours from half an hour and up to four hours. You need to bring water, snacks, and towels. Bathrooms are available, but not showers. Please note this experience is part of the Canopy Family tour company.
This is my fourth time visiting this place. It is my favorite place in all of Anton valley. I love taking a hike in this rainforest along its narrow walkways. They are perfectly set along the contours of the hills. They guide you up and down along the trees and plants while you intake the rainforest scent and the sound of the birds. Along the way, the three suspension bridges take you over the fast moving crystal clear water coming from the waterfall. The water finds Its way into the man-made swimming pool. This is where the crystal clear water turns dark but that should not deter you from taking a dip. The walk through the entire trail usually takes me around thirty minutes because I take my time. The total length of the trail is around two hundred meters so it will not tire you out. You are not supposed to leave the trail and walk into the waterfall, by the way. This place does not allow you to venture there. So you will be left to enjoy the view from one of the suspension bridges and an observation deck. Highly recommended for kids because they will find it to be an adventure. The loose nature of rope suspended bridges will add to the fun. The sound of birds reverberating through the trees is something to behold. Be careful, though, since some of the walkways are steep at times. It will cost you five dollars to enter. To see the pool area is an additional two dollars and fifty cents. To actually use the pool will be an additional five dollars. They also have zip lining and guided tours up to three hours in duration.
Not what I expected. The hike itself is pleasant but very short. The trail is easy and well marked out. It has lots of railings and safety ropes. The jungle is peaceful and lush. Only concern is the $5 entrance fee per person to do a 10 to 15 minute walk. Seems high considering other hikes in the area.
5$ ticket only for the pool. The water is flowing so they are clean. The pool is bit deep in one side. It’s 30 min walk from town center. It’s 15 min walk from entrance to the pool and you can see great waterfall. It’s good place to rest and cool after long trek in mountain. The water is cold.
I went today with the pouring rain and paid $3. I didn't see any pools where to swim but there is only a 200mt path with short bridges and stairs but it's veautiful and totally worth the $3. I got to go right near the water fall, none else there walking. Very slippery so make sure you have proper hiking shoes. I even had to take my shoes off at some point because path was flooded. Only 20 min to walk take pictures and go back but totally worth it

Overwhelmed by all of our visit there! It was so beautiful & lush. Waterfall was worth the hike. Only thing I regret was not doing the Mineral bath!
Visited this place 5 years ago and everything was so natural with no monetary gains attached. Today the place was more of a money making racket for everything you want to do you got to pay. Quite disheartened after my this mornings visit.
So the last time that I visited a thermal water place like this was about 30 years ago when I was a child so I didn't remember much or knew really what to spect. I wanted to come inside and to see how the waters were since there is a sign outside that mentions how the waters were cloudy, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it I'm kind of picky with my waters. So we end up paying the $6 entrance fee ×3 so we can see 👀 the place. The place itself is really beautiful because of all the greenery and nature right away. There's a sense of peace. At the moment you come in, they asked you if you had been there before and what to do. So it's supposed to be a relaxing experience while you get in the thermal pools with a nice temperature. But the reality of it is that there's lot's of people there they are all talking and if there are children is worst they are doing some of the things they let you know what not to do like splash, or jump and the parents seem careless about interrupting the others patrons relaxing experience. My brother and my sister in law did not get in the water since it was very cloudy and smelled like a swamp 😑 but I wanted to trust the process and proceed to get chaged and got into the water but almost immediately regret it I touch something in the water but instead of the 35-45 minutes I only lasted 10 and that was a lot. I did not relax at all. There was too much noise(people talking very loudly and lots of children). The water that is used to rinse yourself comes out very cold. And mud masks are sold separately. If you love trees and nature is lovely to come but don't know about the relaxing part of using the thermal pools.
After my hike up LA India dormida the day before, this was the perfect reward for myself, friendly staff, clean, Awesome seanery. Mud on my face 2 dollars for small container. Will go again next week.
Charming little place nestled in the forest with 2 smaller pools for feet soaking and 2 larger full body soaking pools. Do not expect luxury, but rather a therapeutic and natural setting that seems to be frequented mostly by locals. Was a lovely stop on our road trip.
We’ve read a lot of negative and super negative reviews here. I must say they were quite helpful. Everything is based around expectations from the patrons. Yes, you have pay for the mud, which is understandable otherwise people go wild. Yes, the admittance is a bit overpriced. Yes, it’s a bit run down. No, you can not expect it to be tranquil. No, you can not expect clear water, for two reasons (1) minerals (2) people use it all day, but the pools are emptied everyday. All in all, if know what you’re in for this is a worthwhile visit after a hike. We spend 20$ total for 2 adults and 2 kids, with 2 small doses of mud, and had a relaxing 90minutes just before closing. Sometimes being able to be in a pool with just us four. I understand people being frustrated if it’s overcrowded and if other people play music, that should be forbidden.
Gorgeous place! Hot Springs are nice make sure you get to one of the roads that go up to the top of the mountain you'll be on the edge of the volcano😁
Not great to be honest. Dirty place and dirty pool without filtration or chlorination.

If you're the least bit interested in orchids, plants endemic to Panama, or conserving species that are threatened or endangered, you will find this place beautiful and informative. The tour took about half an hour and cost $1 for Panamanian children, $2 for Panamanian adults, and $3 for foreigners (sorry, I don't know if foreign kids cost $1 or $3). February is not the best time to see lavish displays of orchids - the wet season is best for that - but there were plenty of plants in bloom, some truly unique.
If you are an orchid lover or an eco-tourist, go for it. Otherwise, there are other adventure options nearby. Our guide was great.
Nice guided tour just for me, 3USD. No crowds. Possible to buy orchids from species they have lots from. Good alternative to illegal collections from the market.
Very nice garden and great staff! Only a few orchids were blooming (end of July) but the staff told us beforehand - still worth a visit!
Cute initiative. Sadly there weren’t much orchids blossoming when we were there but we enjoyed our tour
Amazing place. A hidden gem. So much variety of orchids. Around 300 species. Entrance only cost $2. The care takers of this place are very nice.
Fascinating, small orchid garden run by a woman who knows a lot and is happy to speak slowly for mediocre Spanish speakers. Well worth a stop, though it’s hard to find initially.
Awesome! The lady working walked us through the garden which was great for extra information.

They are doing great work here helping animals likely with no other options. They take care of exotic animals people had as pets. If possible they nurture them to a healthy status and some are able to be released into the wild.
It wasn't a particularly great experience. The animals are in small, rather run-down cages and don't seem particularly happy. The whole place seems to be past its best. Even though it is a sanctuary, we cannot recommend it in this state.
It is not a big place but the tour is very informative and is offered in english too. There are many animals with stories and my favorite is Lola the boa she is very cute and friendly
It was amazing and our guide Manuel was especially amazing. He is a gem and the place is too. Gracias!!
Diversity of rescued wild animals that live in captivity, the cost for nationals is $4.00 dollars and 6.00 for foreigners, a bit exaggerated I would say for such a short journey but either way I understand they need to survive and feed the animals especially if they haven’t the support of any NGO or the government.
Nice place for a quick 1 hour visit. Priced fairly for the service it provides
Although this is a locally run capture and release facility which is highly appreciate some of the cages, especially the one for the birds are way too small. I think you need to talk Spanish to truly appreciate the work of the caretakers! Variety of snakes that are on exhibit are very interesting.
This is a wild animal refuge. They have a bunch of snakes some of which are not native to Panama but are gifts as the guide says. You get a guide that explains all in Spanish with very little English available. All in all it is a nice little zoo to visit and worth the walk from the center of El Valle

Decent experience - the trail is easy and safe for walking. In the office, they have explained to us that there is a bridge that collapsed, so there are two options: 1. You can go back to the starting point. 2. You can pass the river beneath the bridge (there are no signs, so it can be a little confusing). The water level is shallow, but there are some slippery rocks you must step on. Another thing, you should use a mosquito repellent, because you can't stand without being sting.
This place is located on Hotel Campestre property. It cost $4 USD per person to walk 1.24 miles (2km). There is a reception area that has a small exhibit area, but this cost extra (should be included for $4.This is a great little trail & would be really good if they had a guided night walk, with a guide to point out all the wildlife. Most of the trail is under the tree canopy along a running creek and it rained on us most of the time. It’s an easy hike & was enjoyable in the rain. But it’s not worth $4 per person. The trail is overgrown, & there are 2 bridges that you have to cross with questionable flooring. It worth $2 per person, but for short paid trail, I would expect it would be better maintained. But again this would really be a great guided night walk. The trees are also marked & labeled with QR codes which is really cool
Amazing nature trail full of trees and nature lots of birds and amazing trees! Please go and visit the frog conservation area to see rare beautiful frogs and reptiles, 10/10
This is an easy hike that could be completed at a leisurely pace in between 30 and 45 minutes. But it's pleasant enough that we easily dragged it out to an hour as we sought sloths. We didn't see any but know others who have. There's a deck with views of the surrounding hills toward the end of the trail that would make a nice place for a picnic. While an easy hike, it is not wheelchair accessible.
This nature hike was spectacular!! We took our parents who are in thier 70's & they were able to do the hike. Slightly concerned they would have difficulty, but it was okay. The view and walk was so lovely and its a great hike for families. We saw loads of mushrooms & flora.
Beautiful location. Nice easy walk in mainly shaded area. We saw lots of wildlife including sloths and squirrels. The golden frogs and other species that are on display in the small museum are really interesting and a friendly member of staff talked to us about each one. This is part of a research and breeding programme as most of those you can see are critically endangered. Well worth a visit and the small entry fee. Takes about 45 minutes to walk here from the middle of town or about 20 minutes from the Golden Frog Inn where we stayed.
A moderate hiking trail perfect for families that costs $4 per person. Took my parents in their early 70s and some of the trail was challenging for them, but we grabbed a walking stick and helped them out. Most people would have no issues. The climate is lovely and lots too see. The water is crystal clear and easy to access. A great place to support.
Nice and easy trail in the shadows, quite short and not very spectacular, but it was a nice half an hour walk. If you are lucky - you can see sloths. Too short for the price though, but it's more like a "donation", so I don't mind.
