The first time I came to Kalimantan, I went to this mall, as I usually do when visiting a mall for the first time, just to watch a movie at the cinema. This cinema was the first and only one I had seen before, as the other cinema (which could be considered temporarily closed) was due to mall collapse. I wondered, “Do all residents who want entertainment have to go to this mall?” Especially if there are interesting movies that also happen to be available in neighboring countries, which can be reached via a more convenient land route.
Although this mall does not have a ground floor like most malls in other cities on Java Island, the tenants also support local SMEs by selling one of their signature products. Like most other malls, this one also has tenants in the F&B, lifestyle, hobby, electronics, and daily necessities sectors. Aming Coffee, a legendary coffee shop from the 1970s, was one of the tenants worth trying.
Although not all tenants have been experienced yet, especially those with the city's signature coffee flavor, I have had the opportunity to experience several other F&B tenants; such as Bakso Lapangan Tembak Senayan, a food court featuring Soto Medan with its tantalizing coconut milk aroma, CW Coffee with its original Arenga Sekar Asri blend, which has a strong palm sugar aroma and a bold taste on the tongue, Gramedia, and Hypermart. One memorable aspect of watching a movie here was getting a promo where you only pay the admin fee, which you can also get from a friend in one of the groups. My first movie watched here was GJLS: Ibuku Ibu Ibu, one of the most absurd films I’ve ever seen, possibly without any shortcuts or sharper editing. Everything felt authentic during filming, with a process filled with humor, as the three main characters were inherently funny and absurd.
From this, I learned that not every area necessarily has good access to accommodate all residents, especially in areas with high income or state revenue (wkwk), such as public transportation on the island of Java. Although access to this mall from my boarding house or workplace can be considered close, as it is within walking distance, it requires more effort to get there, especially after watching a night movie at the cinema. However, in my personal opinion, this serves as a lesson for the future, enabling me to own a private vehicle and drive it without fear. Fortunately, this area still has access to online-based transportation services like online ride-hailing apps, and it also supports online food ordering, which I previously thought was less accesible to many people.
