We drove there and found it very easy to visit — plenty of parking and the pond is right next to the car park. There’s a short, easy trail and a small shop selling blue-themed ice cream and drinks, plus toilets on site. There isn’t much else around, but it’s a nice, quick stop if you’re in the area. We visited after exploring Furano and Biei, and it made a pleasant, scenic break.

A very popular tourist spot in Hokkaido. However do be prepared that it doesnt not look as blue in real life. Most of the pictures you see online are have strong color filter I assume. Just by changing the lighting/filter of the camera you can achieve the results as well. Still a nice place to visit, there is the Shirahige waterfalls nearby as well that is worth visiting.

This small, mysteriously turquoise lake isn’t a place I’d particularly recommend to anyone who has traveled around the South Island of New Zealand. The reason is simple — after seeing the vast, breathtaking glacial lakes of Tekapo, Pukaki, or Wanaka, which are thousands of times larger and glow with that deep sapphire-blue color, it’s hard to feel much awe here. For everyone else, I’d say this: the lake isn’t very accessible, but if you happen to be nearby on a clear day, it’s worth a quick stop to take a look.

This is my 2nd time visiting this blue pond. The last time was in Sep a few year ago while this time is in Nov, which the pond water has an ice covered. I visited late evening and there were lots of tourists to watch the light show, which was amazing in such a cold weather, -1 degree! The pond spotlighted with changing colors beams and effects. This is truly such a way to attract tourists during winter time, which becomes dark early! Worth to visit more than one time!

The view at this place was spectacular. The flowers had a variety of colors and the same was beautiful. The air was refreshing and pictures taken with best with a blue sky. The place was big and you could not finish walking it within 5 hours. You could take a car and drive around it. I visited on a public holiday I did not have to wait and I could buy tickets there directly.

Nice place for flowers field watching but you will pay for the access. The place was extremely crowded, a lot of touristic bus stopped by. The famous potatoes snacks weren't so exciting. They're not salty and not crunchy outside. It was fun renting the kart even though it was expensive compared to the ratio yen/time

I visited Shikisai-no-Oka in July, and while the weather was hot and humid, arriving right at opening made all the difference. I beat the tour buses and had the chance to capture stunning photos of the vibrant flower fields without crowds. The panoramic views of rolling hills blanketed in seasonal blooms are absolutely breathtaking - like walking through a living painting. Despite the heat, the early morning light and peaceful atmosphere made it a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended for photographers and nature lovers - just go early and bring water!

This is a gorgeous place also called a great paradise! The colorful flowers and gardens are stunning for visitors from all over the world! If you visit Japan, you must have a great visit here ! You can enjoy your visual feast and feel the wonderful atmosphere out of you inner mind! As long as you’re happy and cheerful, you can take your time to relax and enjoy yourself as much as you want to! It’s worth visiting here and also bring you fantastic memories for good!

This flower garden in Biei is very impressive in terms of its expansive size and meticulous upkeep. Spread over rolling hill slopes, the flowering plants create bands of vibrant colours that are a sight to behold. My wife and I visited the garden in July and the flower blooms were fresh and beautiful. Although summer was sunny and hot, our visit was blessed with a very pleasant daytime temperature of 22℃. It was very enjoyable to stroll along the pathways, enjoy the flowers and take photos. As the garden is big, visitors can pay for transport options like tractor-pulled wagons or self-drive golf buggies. At the entrance, there is a big retail shop. Carparking is chargeable at ¥500 per entry and we had to circle around to find a vacant lot. Entry into the garden is also chargeable at ¥500 per adult. Notwithstanding the charges, the garden attracts many visitors. Although the car park was full and the entrance was crowded when we visited, the garden had a relaxing atmosphere as visitors were well spread out across its extensive grounds. In our two trips to Hokkaido, we visited Shikisai-no-Oka and both visits were memorable. It is a “must visit” flower garden.

A reason to come to Furano in itself. There are flowers planted from around April to November every year, so a good six months with varied views as the flower fields are constantly changing depending on the season. The rolling hills create many opportunities for beautiful vistas and photos. The admission fee of 500 yen is incredibly fair too. Definitely a place to visit during Spring, Summer or Autumn.

It’s a small waterfall — not grand or majestic, but truly beautiful. I visited in October, when the leaves hadn’t fully changed color yet, but it was still stunning. The water was crystal-clear with a soft blue tint, and the cool air felt so refreshing. Parking is free, convenient, and safe. My second time in winter pilgrimage to Shirahige Waterfall in Hokkaido felt even more magical than the first in September. Visited on a weekday in August with perfect sunny weather and no rain. It wasn’t crowded, although the Blue Pond area had several tour buses. Parking was easy and close by. The bridge offers a lovely spot to take in the views, and the waterfall nearby is beautiful with a stunning mountain backdrop. A charming house overlooks the whole scene, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. The clear blue water reflects the sky perfectly, making it a great place for photos. It’s a quiet, scenic spot that’s worth visiting for nature lovers and photographers. There’s also a small shop selling potatoes, ice cream and melons too. Great for some refreshments.

The minerals in the water actually turn it a vibrant teal blue and yes it really is that blue. Almost like a video game scene come to life. The waterfalls are spectacular. Do plan ahead tho because somethings will be closed at certain times of the year. Regardless, it was a wonder to see. I would suggest going to the Blue Pond as well. Really is a must see. As well I would recommend coming in the fall as the leaves turn vibrant yellows and reds that really pop against all the evergreens throughout the area.

9 Nov 2025 When we arrived, it almost dark. It's very cold today because of snow. A bit slippery as well even I'm wearing winter boots. I liked this spot more than the blue pond. Water's very clear and blue. Mountain and resort are covering with snow, are magical and wonderful.

You should visit this small little waterfall if you are visiting the blue pond also as well. It is nearby. You kind of overlook the waterfall from a bridge itself. The water from the waterfalls meet a clear stream of river water below.

Besides Ken & Mary, Best view to 「Tokachi Mountains」 especially with the white snow in winter. So lucky today with excellent view! Cool!

A spot with a tree made popular in a 1972 television commercial. There were so many tourists! Good to go in the morning before 8am.

I wasn't really keen on it, but they recommended this place. There were lots of views like this. It's nice, but if you don't have any particular feelings for it, your reaction will be, "Oh, I see."I'm waiting in the car There are many similar views and I can't tell which is which.

According to our tour guide, this tree was planted and had significant meaning in the history during the Japan automobile manufacturing era. It was a place for photo taking.

Hands-down favorite sightseeing spot in Furano-Biei area. Had the privilege to take more time here as we used a rental car instead. Many tourist buses stop right next to the iconic line of trees here and quickly move on to the next location, but the real sight is up the hill past the line of trees. Beautiful stretch of land and hills weaving in and out of each other, a sight I was surprised to see anywhere in the likes of Asia! Didn't expect much from a tourist spot that is literally a stretch of road, but super glad we didn't skip out on this one!

Picturesque location at a high elevation. You can see the rolling hills in uniform colours. Highly recommended if you are on your way or are departing Asahakiwa. It’s just a short drive away. Totally worth your trip. Savour nature and the the farmlands at their best! A must go!!!

It’s pretty much fields and trees. But apparently it’s a tourist spot because the tree was in a cigarette ad or something lol It was nice to see all the fresh green. I think it would be lovely in the winter as well. There is a waiting time for taking photos.

9 Nov 2025 This scenic tree is on cigarette advertisements, so it becomes famous. There's a great viewpoint here for Patchwork fields around here. I guess we we came on summer it could have many color of flowers and Patchwork from this place.

Nothing much to see since it is only a tree , anyhow the circumstance is beautiful and so breezy. You can enjoy the clean fresh air and very lovely sky by super wide view.

The area around the tree is just gorgeous and breathtaking! Even though I couldn’t see the beautiful flowery patches and a tree in full bloom, I still found the scenery and landscape fabulous!

Surrounded by Biei’s rolling hills and colorful fields, the Seven Stars Tree captures the serene, open landscape that defines the area’s charm. Although I visited Seven Stars Tree in winter, it still possesses its charm even if it doesn't have its beautiful lush green leaves.

We visited this flower field in early October, and most of the flowers were well past their peak. But on the upside, the sunflower fields were fantastic, it was pretty quiet (and it was a Saturday), there was free parking and free entry, we didn't have to wait for a cart (it was 2000 yen for 15 minutes), and there was no one else driving around, so we could stop on the track and take photos. It was a great experience. I recommend you hire a cart to really see the sunflowers properly because you can't walk through this field. You can only go with a cart. They're very easy to drive.

Really nice flower field and a big sunflower field as well. There's an ATV rental that let's you ride around the flower field. Walking is better tbh. No entrance fee

It's a nice location to spend an hour or so to take in the sceneries. It's worth the time and effort, though. Make an extra effort to take a drive further into the vicinity and you'll be rewarded with an incredible scenery that's worth your time.

A nice flower garden to stop by and admire. Admission is an optional 200 yen donation per person for a lovely 15 to 30 minute stroll through the designated path that goes around the garden.

Nice intimate flower tourist experience. There are two little cafes. You can rent these little buggies so you can go into the garden. It's worthwhile if you are in the area.

Nice farm but perhaps a bit underwhelming after visiting farm tomita, but the view here is amazing. A great scene of flowing hills before a backdrop of snowy mountains in the distance, definitely worth a quick stop.

Don't waste time coming here if you want to enjoy the flowers. You won't be able to get close enough to take a photo. You can only take a buggy ride around the gardena. It's 2000 JPY for 15 mins but you can't stop along the way. And you're still a good distance away from the flowers in the buggy. This is the worst garden we have been to in Japan.

Visited early of May 2025. Google map show that the road was closed and it direct me use another road which it took 45-50 minutes. It lucky that i try go check the “closed road” and i found put the road is opened! It only took 10minutes drive from the waterfall sightseeing place. Parking is free and the view is amazing.

Takachidake has an open carpark with access to washroom and vending machines as a pit stop, but its also a place many locals drive their 4WD and vans up and camp out of their cars with lawn chairs and all to enjoy the presence and air of nature. Trekking to the volcano crater is possible but hard so its not for the elderly or individuals that can't walk on uneven and loose gravel. If you are driving and have time to spare, do spend a cooling afternoon hiking up "The Roof of Hokkaido"! Arigatogozaimatsu!

I visited Mt. Tokachidake on October 3, 2025, hoping to catch the beautiful autumn foliage of Biei. The majestic and mysterious scenery lived up to its reputation, but a couple of things are essential if you're planning a hike. First, proper hiking boots are a must. The trail is covered in rocky fields of various sizes right from the start. Also, be aware that this is brown bear country, so I strongly recommend attaching a bear bell to your pack as a wise precaution. The trail entrance is bustling with tourists, but the crowds thin out considerably just a little way up, allowing for a peaceful trek. My goal was to reach the shelter, but as 4 PM approached, dark clouds suddenly rolled in. For safety, I reluctantly had to turn back without reaching the summit. It was a real shame that I couldn't witness the crater of the active volcano spewing its cloud-like smoke up close. However, the view from a distance was more than enough to feel the raw power and awe of nature. That mysterious and beautiful sight has already made me promise myself a return trip. Around 4 PM on the Thursday I visited, there were very few people ascending or descending, allowing me to fully experience the serene mountain. I definitely want to come back on a clear day and conquer the summit. P.S. As you can see from my attached activity log, my hike for the day clocked in at 3.37 miles with an elevation gain of 1,329 ft. This is a challenging and rewarding climb, not just a casual walk, so come prepared! Photos attached.

If youre here for the hiking early in the morning, youre bound to see the parking lot super filled Its crazy of me to even hike with a running shoe, no stick no hiking boots all the way to the top of the volcano. The view up there is amazing, tiring but fun(my leg died next day :( )

Very good view of the snow-capped Tokachidake mountain ranges. I came here in autumn and encountered raining ice (see video of car in parking lot). Do wear enough clothes to protect against the cold. Besides the parking lot, there is a small house with a food and drink stall (very limited stuff), vending machine, toilets and explanations on how Tokachidake was formed, earthquakes and other information. Good place to take a rest and have a hot beverage.

Went up in autumn, and the views were fantastic. It was a shame the sun was shy that day.

Visited on 23 June 2025. Nice view of surrounding Biei but no sight of any flower fields. Only a small patch of lavender and a slightly larger canola field was present. It was still a pleasant visit with good views.

Visited today (23 June 2025). Love the tranquility of the area.

Visited during summer and was a nice place to walk off around with the kids. The views of the surrounding "patchwork" fields was also great, viewed from the observatory. Also has some souvenir shops and a few spots to pick up a quick bite. Toilets are also there. It was quite busy when we went with lots of tourists. Recommended.

A good pitstop from biei to asahikawa (15km or so to the town) . You will have to climb to level 2 of the deck to see a paranoma view of the area. The entry is free and car-parking is free too. The park itself has walking routes, but i did not attempt to walk. So im not sure of the quality of walk in the area. There are a few shops opposite the carpark. The shops are closing when we reached around 1645hrs and closed by 1700hrs. Toilets are available here, but kinda of smelly.

Hokusei Slope observatory is in the same area as Biei's famous trees, especially the Ken and Mary tree. If you're in the area it's well worth a stop. It has great views across Biei and the valley to Tokachi Dake. There's parking, toilets and yatai food stalls. Make sure Google maps takes you to the top parking area not the bottom.

we went there during winter, everything was covered with thick ice. all the shop was close and i think we are not suppose to go up the tower is it is slippery and you cant see the path. no one was there, so we decided to go up.

Great rest stop with very clean 24-hr toilets available. Unfortunately RVs are not allowed at their lots but there is parking a few meters away near the JR tracks.

The corn is sweet, crunchy, and fresh! Must try!

The Biei Roadside Station Oka-no-Kura is one of 2 roadside stations of Biei. It is a must-visit if you are collecting the roadside station stamps. There are numerous souvenirs to buy here. You can also check the art displays on the second floor. If you want to eat lunch then I also recommend the restaurant here. They serve food made from ingredients grown in the town. Don’t forget the roadside station stamp when you visit.

The photographer (and his dad) who made Biei area popular through their wonderful photos. This is their museum and it's free (donation based) to enter. Once you are in it, be prepared to be amazed by the work of these dedicated individuals. You will most likely leave with a few postcards or even a photo book of their remarkable work.

We were there just for the picturesque trees outside (parking is across the street). Great photo opp. But do go into the free museum as you’d be pleasantly surprised by the exhibition (no photos allowed inside though).

We visited as part of the Furano tour. It was a small museum exhibition of photography. Though we were instructed to not take photos, we saw groups (Koreans and Chinese visitors) ignoring this rule and just blatantly took pictures.

Could only see them from afar as the trees are on private property.

It's alright, the trees look nice since there are no trees immediately around. 04/29 was a little barren but I am sure this view with a lush green field would look pretty awesome.

Seeing the fields from the high point. Although it’s not the harvest season and it is rainy, it would be nice to visit in a sunny. The café there sells very tasty strawberry milk shake made with biei milk & ice cream. I was really impressed.

Worth a stop if you are nearby. There are informative boards about the history of farming industry in this area. Additionally, there’s an ice cream store and a cozy coffee roastery where you can take a relaxing break and enjoy some treats before continuing your journey.

The Christmas tree in Biei is beautiful, but getting there can be a bit tricky. Taxis are scarce, and while you can take a bus, the schedule isn’t frequent, plus you’ll need to walk about 30 minutes. I recommend taking a taxi if you can find one. There were quite a few tourists when I visited, but the photos turned out nice despite the crowd.

Just a normal road in the Furano area of Hokkaido, but there's a designated place with enough space for a few cars to stop by the roadside. Lovely photos, especially if you get low to the ground with a telephoto lens as it really emphasises the straight length of the road and its undulating curves.

Quite a scenic spot in what feels like the middle of nowhere. Would recommend if you’re passing through or if it’s a slight detour to a journey. I went when there wasn’t a soul around, except for two old ladies passing through in their cars. It’s a slightly surreal experience because it’s so quiet. The road is astounding, with its fabulous roller coaster like shape. The fields around it are beautiful and calm.

Very picturesque road, if there weather is good, you can see Mt furano in the background. Very nice picture taking spot.

It's a spot on a small road with amazing view. Both of the road downslope and the fields and mountains around. Very beautiful. There are some small spots where you can park a car to take photos. Please be mindful and don't get in the way of any passing by traffic.

We took a slight detour to visit this place on the way to our next destination. It's not a must-visit spot in my opinion, especially since the mountain was covered with clouds that day. There isn't direct parking available, but you can find some random spots nearby where you can park and walk over.

Soft ice cream was the best, pure milk without additional sweets. Milk also good, it taste light and fresh. Cafe wasn't too big, but they also have outdoor seating. We can also enjoy beautiful view from the hills, cows grassing, but unfortunately on this time i can't see the flowers bloom.

The milk and ice cream here have a rather light flavor. I personally prefer something richer, so I found them just average. The cheese was also so-so, and the prices aren’t cheap. However, the scenery here is beautiful.

We saw it on the map and decided to swing by, as it was only a 5 min drive for the flower farm. This place did not disappoint, the moment you step out of the car, you can smell the cows 😂 there’s a good diary selection, we got the ice cream, milk and the yogurt. It was some of the creamiest milk and yogurt I’ve ever had. The yogurt was more on the sweeter side but it was really smooth and rich. The soft cream was rich and really nice as well. The portion size was really good, not your usual soft cream serving with a hollow hole inside! You are surrounded by the cows that are free to roam around the field as you enjoy your ice cream. The view up the small hill was also really pretty. All in all, a very nice detour if you have the time

Came here to see cows on the hills and try the raclette cheese toast but it was sold out. Go early if you want to try the toast. Was there late afternoon, an hour before closing. A solo tree was standing in a field next to the carpark and wanted some attention. At the start of the hill, there is a bucket of white powder, supposedly for visitors to step in to coat the soles of their shoes with, before starting the walk up a slight slope to see the cows on the hill. The slope up was not difficult and view from the top was 360 degrees of mountains in the far distance and rolling hills in the foreground. It was not a clear day but good enough a sight. On this trip, saw wild deer, wild foxes (crossing the roads), now cows. Interesting place.

Best dairy products in Hokkaido i would say. Ice cream was creamy but at the same time refreshing and light. Make sure to order it in cone as the cone itself was exceptional as well. Not to mention the yogurt!!! The best yogurt drink ever!! Together with the stylish design of the shop and adorable cows. This place must not be missed when visiting Biei.

closes at 5pm! reached at 4:45ish so didnt get to try their toast as they were closing. their soft serve was delicious and their yogurt was quite yummy and not too sweet. cows were far away when we went. there’s a place to see their fermenting cheese. that’s all

This was the best soft serve we've had in Hokkaido in the week we've been here. Been having at least two a day in Sapporo, Furano and Otaru. Would definitely recommend anyone who rents a car to try and come here if you want to try ice cream.
