Bodies of Water
Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike) is a manmade pond known for its tranquil atmosphere and striking blue color, attracting nature enthusiasts. Located about 20 minutes southeast of downtown Biei, it is part of the Shirogane Onsen Hot Spring Resort area, which also features the Shirohige-no-taki Waterfall with its distinctive white cascading water.
Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike) is truly a natural wonder. The water has an enchanting jade-like blue-green color that changes subtly with the light, giving it a magical, almost otherworldly appearance. Standing by the pond, you can see shades of turquoise, emerald, and sapphire blending together, creating a view that feels both calm and breathtakingly beautiful. Surrounded by trees and reflections, the scenery looks like a perfect painting. It is one of those rare places where nature feels pure, peaceful, and deeply mesmerizing.
Min M — Google review
We drove there and found it very easy to visit — plenty of parking and the pond is right next to the car park. There’s a short, easy trail and a small shop selling blue-themed ice cream and drinks, plus toilets on site. There isn’t much else around, but it’s a nice, quick stop if you’re in the area. We visited after exploring Furano and Biei, and it made a pleasant, scenic break.

🌿 A Hidden Gem of Nature and Calm If you’re a nature lover or simply looking for a peaceful escape, this spot is absolutely worth visiting. The surroundings are breathtaking — a perfect blend of lush greenery, soothing sounds of nature, and that crisp, refreshing air that instantly calms your mind. The blue ice cream and drink here are a must-try! They’re not just photogenic but also surprisingly delicious and refreshing after a bit of walking. It’s one of those small but memorable local touches that make the experience feel special. It does get quite crowded, especially on weekends or around midday, but the best part is — you can easily find some quiet by taking a short walk away from the main area. Just a few minutes off the main path, the crowd thins out, and you can enjoy the serenity in peace. A short walk ahead leads you to a beautiful waterfall, surrounded by autumn-colored trees that turn the entire scene into a painting. The soft rustle of leaves, the sparkle of water under sunlight, and the cool mist in the air make it one of the most picturesque spots to sit, relax, and take it all in. Whether you’re here for a quick visit or a half-day adventure, this place is a perfect blend of natural beauty, peaceful corners, and seasonal charm. Bring a camera, comfortable shoes, and a sense of wonder — you’ll leave refreshed and inspired.
Adi D — Google review
This is one of those must-visit landmarks — the water is such a clear, stunning shade of blue that it completely captures your eyes. The autumn air was cool and refreshing, making everything around look even more vibrant. There’s also a small stream nearby, and the water there is the same beautiful blue. 💧🍁✨
Indira J — Google review
✨ Absolutely Breathtaking! ✨ Shirogane Blue Pond is truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The water is a mesmerizing, crystal-clear blue that looks almost unreal — like a painting come to life. The way the sunlight reflects off the surface creates a magical glow that changes with every angle. Even though it was quite cold this time of year, the view was still absolutely amazing — the crisp air actually made the colors feel even more vivid and refreshing. The peaceful, icy atmosphere gave the whole scene a quiet, dreamlike beauty. If you’re visiting Hokkaido, bundle up and go! It’s serene, stunning, and completely unforgettable. 💙❄️🌿
Grace V — Google review
This small, mysteriously turquoise lake isn’t a place I’d particularly recommend to anyone who has traveled around the South Island of New Zealand. The reason is simple — after seeing the vast, breathtaking glacial lakes of Tekapo, Pukaki, or Wanaka, which are thousands of times larger and glow with that deep sapphire-blue color, it’s hard to feel much awe here. For everyone else, I’d say this: the lake isn’t very accessible, but if you happen to be nearby on a clear day, it’s worth a quick stop to take a look.
Johnny K — Google review
For English Speaker. A very touristy spot but it is well worth it. If you drive the parking is 500 yen. You'll pay at the ticket box after your visit. They do take credit card. The lake walk is short can be done in 10 mins and it's a loop. You can go either the slope route which goes clockwise or the stair route which goes counter clockwise. Mostly everyone goes up and back down the slope, but if you do the loop you'll see all of it and may find better photo spots. The shop there is nice too. So check that out for some blue pond themed soft cream or snacks. All in all, highly recommend to visit if you are coming out to this area. Seems like there are a lot of tourist bus that stops here. If you are looking at that this spot is worth it, even if you are only here for an hour. Really only need a short time here to see some natural beauty.
Jonathan K — Google review
The pond looks beautiful. Very suitable for taking photos. Unfortunately, the day we went there was a cloudy day so the colour of the pond was quite dark. But we did walking around it as a cloudy day is chill for taking a walk. The time we went there is during summer and I would like to revisit it during winter.

Shirahige Waterfall, also known as the "White Beard Waterfall," is a stunning natural attraction in Biei, Hokkaido. The waterfall cascades with a head of about 30m and its name comes from the resemblance of groundwater flowing down to a mountain stream, resembling a "white beard." This picturesque spot offers a powerful sight as spring water flows down from between natural rocks into the cobalt blue Biei River.
Went there during summer. The weather was moderate and it was sunny. There is a car park nearby so no problem if U drive here. The Blue Pond nearby has a blue colour, which makes the water from the waterfall cyan too. There is a bridge, great place for pictures with the waterfall. Hope ya have a g'day.
Superuser L — Google review
There’s just as little to do here as at the pond one bus stop earlier—but unlike the pond, the waterfall is much more beautiful and spacious. You won’t have to squeeze through crowds of tourists, which there will be hundreds of here. If you're already in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit. But if it’s going to take you several hours to get here, you’re better off finding something more worthwhile.

✨ Shirahige Waterfall – A Curtain of Silver Whispers ✨ Shirahige Waterfall in Biei is like a scene painted by nature’s most delicate hand. From the cliffs covered in lush greenery, countless streams of pure water cascade down like strands of white silk, creating the appearance of a shimmering silver beard, which is how it earned its poetic name. The water pours gracefully into the turquoise-blue Biei River, where the milky mineral-rich streams blend with the crystal-clear current, giving the river its mesmerizing jade and sapphire tones. Standing before the falls, you can feel both the gentleness and power of nature—the mist cool against your skin, the sound of rushing water echoing like a soft symphony through the valley. Framed by vibrant forests that change colors with the seasons, the waterfall is breathtaking in every moment of the year—lush greens in summer, fiery hues in autumn, and a mystical frozen beauty in winter. Shirahige Waterfall is not just a natural attraction—it is a place where time seems to slow, and the soul feels refreshed by the eternal rhythm of water meeting earth. A true hidden gem of Hokkaido. 🌿💧
Min M — Google review
It’s a small waterfall — not grand or majestic, but truly beautiful. I visited in October, when the leaves hadn’t fully changed color yet, but it was still stunning. The water was crystal-clear with a soft blue tint, and the cool air felt so refreshing. Parking is free, convenient, and safe. Oh, and don’t forget to grab some takoyaki from the little shop right in front of the waterfall — it’s absolutely delicious, trust me! 😋💧🍂
Indira J — Google review
Visited on a weekday in August with perfect sunny weather and no rain. It wasn’t crowded, although the Blue Pond area had several tour buses. Parking was easy and close by. The bridge offers a lovely spot to take in the views, and the waterfall nearby is beautiful with a stunning mountain backdrop. A charming house overlooks the whole scene, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. The clear blue water reflects the sky perfectly, making it a great place for photos. It’s a quiet, scenic spot that’s worth visiting for nature lovers and photographers. There’s also a small shop selling potatoes, ice cream and melons too. Great for some refreshments.
Pechaporn P — Google review
The minerals in the water actually turn it a vibrant teal blue and yes it really is that blue. Almost like a video game scene come to life. The waterfalls are spectacular. Do plan ahead tho because somethings will be closed at certain times of the year. Regardless, it was a wonder to see. I would suggest going to the Blue Pond as well. Really is a must see. My IG handle is nature_boi_sof_kayaks if you want to see more pictures. I'll post a few here but there is really so much more to see. As well I would recommend coming in the fall as the leaves turn vibrant yellows and reds that really pop against all the evergreens throughout the area.
Julian D — Google review
Seeing nature is wonderful but try going during non raining season. View was spectacular. True blue water as affected by volcanic minerals and some earth metals.
Dennis C — Google review
We walked to the falls from the blue pond (took us 20 mins each way, you can also drive there). Along the way, there is a mini falls which we thought was also nice as you can get quite close. Shirahige waterfalls was really pretty and worth the visit after blue pond since it’s just a short walk/drive away.

Large, free car park and rest area. The park golf area is behind the buildings, we didn't play but it looked very well maintained. There are few shops, food trucks and toilets in the area. Delicious burger shop is just across from the carpark as well as North Face shop. Behind this building is a small green space where you can sit down eat your lunch and play table tennis, try slack line or play some outdoor instruments. The car park for blue pond is a bit further up the road. I guess o e could walk from here too.

The photographer (and his dad) who made Biei area popular through their wonderful photos. This is their museum and it's free (donation based) to enter. Once you are in it, be prepared to be amazed by the work of these dedicated individuals. You will most likely leave with a few postcards or even a photo book of their remarkable work.

Panoramic Flower Gardens Shikisai-no-oka is a popular tourist attraction in Biei, featuring vast and colorful flower gardens that bloom all year round. The gardens showcase a variety of flowers such as tulips, pansies, poppies, lupines, lavender, and marigolds. Visitors can enjoy strolling through the patterned rows of blossoms or opt for a leisurely ride on a tractor bus.
Visited recently in summer and it was very hot and scotching. Recommend to put on sunblock and bring UV umbrella. Flowers were nice. Purchased tickets on the spot via the machines. I do not recommend to take the tram ride as it was only for 15 mins and the farm area is actually walkable. Tram goes one small round and stops for 3mins at a spot for photo taking, brings you back to the original stop and the ride ended.
Yvonne L — Google review
The view at this place was spectacular. The flowers had a variety of colors and the same was beautiful. The air was refreshing and pictures taken with best with a blue sky. The place was big and you could not finish walking it within 5 hours. You could take a car and drive around it. I visited on a public holiday I did not have to wait and I could buy tickets there directly.
Kurtis L — Google review
Nice place for flowers field watching but you will pay for the access. The place was extremely crowded, a lot of touristic bus stopped by. The famous potatoes snacks weren't so exciting. They're not salty and not crunchy outside. It was fun renting the kart even though it was expensive compared to the ratio yen/time

Visiting Shikisai-no-oka truly feels like stepping into a painting. The rolling hills are covered with many different kinds of flowers, each arranged carefully to create stunning patterns and colorful waves that stretch across the landscape. From tulips to lavender, sunflowers to marigolds, the gardens showcase the best of every season. What makes this place so special is not only the vibrant colors, but also the way the flowers are planted in creative designs — forming beautiful shapes and breathtaking panoramas that look magical from every angle. Whether you walk among the blooms or view them from above, the scenery is endlessly impressive. The gardens are peaceful, well-kept, and surrounded by the natural beauty of Biei’s gentle hills, making it a perfect place to relax and take photos. Truly, Shikisai-no-oka is a must-visit destination in Hokkaido for anyone who loves nature, flowers, and unforgettable views. 🌿✨

I visited Shikisai-no-Oka in July, and while the weather was hot and humid, arriving right at opening made all the difference. I beat the tour buses and had the chance to capture stunning photos of the vibrant flower fields without crowds. The panoramic views of rolling hills blanketed in seasonal blooms are absolutely breathtaking - like walking through a living painting. Despite the heat, the early morning light and peaceful atmosphere made it a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended for photographers and nature lovers - just go early and bring water!

This is a gorgeous place also called a great paradise! The colorful flowers and gardens are stunning for visitors from all over the world! If you visit Japan, you must have a great visit here ! You can enjoy your visual feast and feel the wonderful atmosphere out of you inner mind! As long as you’re happy and cheerful, you can take your time to relax and enjoy yourself as much as you want to! It’s worth visiting here and also bring you fantastic memories for good!

This flower garden in Biei is very impressive in terms of its expansive size and meticulous upkeep. Spread over rolling hill slopes, the flowering plants create bands of vibrant colours that are a sight to behold. My wife and I visited the garden in July and the flower blooms were fresh and beautiful. Although summer was sunny and hot, our visit was blessed with a very pleasant daytime temperature of 22℃. It was very enjoyable to stroll along the pathways, enjoy the flowers and take photos. As the garden is big, visitors can pay for transport options like tractor-pulled wagons or self-drive golf buggies. At the entrance, there is a big retail shop. Carparking is chargeable at ¥500 per entry and we had to circle around to find a vacant lot. Entry into the garden is also chargeable at ¥500 per adult. Notwithstanding the charges, the garden attracts many visitors. Although the car park was full and the entrance was crowded when we visited, the garden had a relaxing atmosphere as visitors were well spread out across its extensive grounds. In our two trips to Hokkaido, we visited Shikisai-no-Oka and both visits were memorable. It is a “must visit” flower garden.
Jeff L — Google review
A reason to come to Furano in itself. There are flowers planted from around April to November every year, so a good six months with varied views as the flower fields are constantly changing depending on the season. The rolling hills create many opportunities for beautiful vistas and photos. The admission fee of 500 yen is incredibly fair too. Definitely a place to visit during Spring, Summer or Autumn.

Hinode Park is a seasonal park in Hokkaido, Japan, known for its picturesque rolling fields adorned with lavender and colorful flowers. The park features camping grounds and offers a breathtaking view of the wide scenic flower fields from its observatory deck. It is particularly popular from late May to late September when catnips, roses, and lavenders are in full bloom. The park also boasts the pure white Love Bell, believed to symbolize true love, making it a favorite spot for couples.
The park was filled with beautiful purple flowers in mid June. You can drive all the way up to the view point.

Beautiful park with lavender fields over looking the northern part of Furano. Less tourists here which was welcome. So many couples taking marriage photos here, just as a testament to how beautiful this place is. Butterflies flying all around. A cafe up top. Ample parking. Toilets present. Vending machines to quench your thirst. Strongly recommended! You can even ring the bell in the middle and have a picture perfect frame of the lavender fields behind.
Oliver L — Google review
In July, we were at another lavender field in the late afternoon but the evening sun had cast its shadows across the field and the colours were darkened in the shadows. So, we drove to Hinode Park, having first checked on the Internet that the hill slope would be illuminated by the setting sun. We drove up to the hilltop at Hinode Park. Indeed, we were delighted that the setting sun lit up the lavender fields on the hill slope. It wasn't crowded in the evening. There were a few wedding couples having their photos taken amongst the lavender fields.
Jeff L — Google review
Very nice hilly park. However when I went in end of September, most of the flowers were not there anymore. The top of the observatory was nice however. Nice bonus view in the washrooms!
Norman C — Google review
Beautiful park with free admission and parking. Less crowded compared to Tomita. Visited here early July, lavenders are fully bloomed only in some fields and other flowers still in a young stage. Found 1 couple came here for pre-wedding 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️and met 1 couple with a lovely dog 🐶
Chanapa — Google review
It's free and it's absolutely beautiful, especially if you come in the peak of summer when all the lavenders are in bloom. It's a lovely colourful garden with a scenic spot for romantic photos. Other times of the year, it's much quieter and less photogenic, but still nice.
Bent Z — Google review
I finally visited Hinode Park last week, having seen stunning photos of its lavender fields. Unfortunately, the gloomy weather made it feel more spacious than vibrant. 😅😅😅 Unlike Tomita Farm which still has flowers in early September, Hinode Park is quite low maintenance and lacked blooms during my visit. I’m definitely planning to return in June or July for the blooming season! A quick note to those visitors with elders and young children: it takes about 15 minutes to walk from the car park to the peak which has steps but well paved.

We were the only ones there when we visited the park and it was a lovely climb up the hill. Ringing the bell at the top of the hill was quite the experience and the views of Furano and surrounding areas were beautiful. A must visit when in Furano.

Nestled in the picturesque Biei region, Biei Michi-no-Eki Oka-no-Kura is a charming roadside station that serves as a delightful pit stop for travelers. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it an ideal spot to relax and recharge.
It's quite small but full of really good souvenirs. Great postcards and a lovely 2025 calendar with scenes from the area. There was a lot of fresh food, T shirts, and just a wide range of special products. The cafe had quite a lot of choices for such a small place, though we didn't eat there. It was crowded, so it's obviously a popular stop for bus tours. Recommended.

Zerubu Hill is a picturesque tourist flower garden located in Biei town, Hokkaido. Situated along Furano National Route, it offers colorful flower fields set against the backdrop of Mt. Asahidake and Tokachidake Mountain Range. Visitors can explore the vibrant flower fields, grass open space, and Atomu Hill while enjoying stunning views typical of Hokkaido.
The most beautiful flower field in this area. After 17.00 it's free and the shops close at 17.00.

We visited this flower field in early October, and most of the flowers were well past their peak. But on the upside, the sunflower fields were fantastic, it was pretty quiet (and it was a Saturday), there was free parking and free entry, we didn't have to wait for a cart (it was 2000 yen for 15 minutes), and there was no one else driving around, so we could stop on the track and take photos. It was a great experience. I recommend you hire a cart to really see the sunflowers properly because you can't walk through this field. You can only go with a cart. They're very easy to drive.
Pamela A — Google review
Really nice flower field and a big sunflower field as well. There's an ATV rental that let's you ride around the flower field. Walking is better tbh. No entrance fee
StarChomp — Google review
It's a nice location to spend an hour or so to take in the sceneries. It's worth the time and effort, though. Make an extra effort to take a drive further into the vicinity and you'll be rewarded with an incredible scenery that's worth your time.
Nick L — Google review
A nice flower garden to stop by and admire. Admission is an optional 200 yen donation per person for a lovely 15 to 30 minute stroll through the designated path that goes around the garden.
Bent Z — Google review
Nice intimate flower tourist experience. There are two little cafes. You can rent these little buggies so you can go into the garden. It's worthwhile if you are in the area.
Sarah Z — Google review
Nice farm but perhaps a bit underwhelming after visiting farm tomita, but the view here is amazing. A great scene of flowing hills before a backdrop of snowy mountains in the distance, definitely worth a quick stop.
Marijn ( — Google review
Don't waste time coming here if you want to enjoy the flowers. You won't be able to get close enough to take a photo. You can only take a buggy ride around the gardena. It's 2000 JPY for 15 mins but you can't stop along the way. And you're still a good distance away from the flowers in the buggy. This is the worst garden we have been to in Japan.

The Tree of Ken and Mary is a tall poplar tree located in the Biei Shirogane hot spring resort area, known for its appearance in a 1970s Nissan commercial. It stands out in the area and is easily recognizable. The subterranean waterfall nearby, with water flowing from the Tokachidake mountain range, adds to the natural beauty of the surroundings.
The Tree of Ken and Mary is a beautiful and iconic spot in Biei, known for its role in a famous commercial for the Nissan Skyline. Visiting in winter, we found the landscape (fukei) around the tree truly breathtaking, with snow-covered fields stretching out into the distance. The tree, standing alone against the vast, snowy backdrop, creates a peaceful and almost nostalgic scene, especially for fans of the commercial. Winter brings a quiet beauty to the area, making it an ideal time for those who enjoy tranquil, scenic views and a touch of cinematic history.

A spot with a tree made popular in a 1972 television commercial. There were so many tourists! Good to go in the morning before 8am.

Is not too bad for your Instagram post but not enough to make you change profile picture on that. Too many tourists. We came with a tour and had limited time for photo shooting. Yet it's worthwhile to come for a shot.

I wasn't really keen on it, but they recommended this place. There were lots of views like this. It's nice, but if you don't have any particular feelings for it, your reaction will be, "Oh, I see."I'm waiting in the car There are many similar views and I can't tell which is which.

According to our tour guide, this tree was planted and had significant meaning in the history during the Japan automobile manufacturing era. It was a place for photo taking.

Hamburger restaurant
Between the Bread is a great hamburger restaurant in Biei, which is known for its beautiful Taisetsuzan mountain range. The restaurant can be found at the roadside station Biei Shirokanebiruke, and they are very flexible when it comes to vegetarianism. The burgers here are absolutely amazing, and they fully understand what it means to be a vegetarian customer!
i came here last year to eat and it was the best burger i ever had in my life. it was so good i had to buy the merchandise. one year after i came back to taste the masterpiece but it was closed for the week of new year so do take note! (sadly i was flying back the next day😔)
Samson . — Google review
The burger here is juicy and flavorful, with a well-cooked patty that really hits the spot. The queue can be long, especially during peak hours, and it feels like there aren’t quite enough staff, but the food is worth the wait. Orders are takeaway only, though you can sit and enjoy your meal either inside or outside. There’s also a small North Face shop next door, adding a bit of variety to the stop. The food trucks nearby offer different options, making it a fun place to grab a quick bite. It’s a great stop for food and rest before heading to Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike). Since restaurants are limited in the area and traffic can get heavy, this place is both convenient and satisfying.
Pechaporn P — Google review
If you like your burger on the lighter side, this is the place to be. The burger and chips were made in a way that really showcased the freshness of all the ingredients. It ended up being my favourite burger during my time in Japan. I even liked it so much that I bought one of their caps to take home after the meal.
Adam L — Google review
Decent lunch spot in a food desert. It’s a 3 star burger on a 4 star bun with 5 star sauce and 2 star potatoes. The hot dog was great, though. Not the best burger you’ll ever have, and the fries could be better with a little effort and seasoning. Nice outdoor seating for good weather, plenty of indoor seating as well. Comfy chairs. It’s overpriced for what you get (10k ¥ for three people!)…but where else are you going to eat out here? Pony up the tourist cash and enjoy!
Matt J — Google review
The atmosphere is incredible :) and the staff very kind But I was a little bit dissapointed by the potatoes size. Very little and okay taste. The burger is good though! Very juicy 😋 overall, I think a little bit expensive for the size 🤔 or maybe I was just very hungry 😁
Elise B — Google review
This place has great hamburgers. The bun was so good - soft and tasty. All of the ingredients were fresh. Definitely a great place to stop for lunch after the Shirogane Blue Pond.
Lisa D — Google review
The burger is surprisingly tasty and delicious. A rest stop near the blue pond if you are hungry. There is a North Face shop and a place which sell the local snacks and tidbits nearby.
Derrick T — Google review
First I ordered and ate burger this worthy because between pic and real was match. Damn, the price was cheap when I compared with burger in my country with the same price. The meat was thick, the sauce was, woooww!! Everything was SUPEERRR!!! Except it’s quite hard to reach here, need to ride by private vehicle (bike or car) since I didn’t see any public transportation around here.

Udon noodle restaurant
Udon Noodle Restaurant Mugiiro no Oka is a self-service eatery offering a variety of udon options, both hot and cold, with the choice to add tempura. The restaurant is conveniently located near a popular tourist destination and offers delicious, authentic udon at affordable prices. Visitors can enjoy the fresh and chewy noodles made in-house while taking in beautiful views of the garden.
What a surprise. Found this by chance as they close later for lunch. The udon is perfectly bouncy and fresh. Order your soup base and add additionals like tempura, chicken etc If you come by car, give your ticket at the Counter to change it to free parking.
Mervyn P — Google review
Good Udon restaurant. You order the udon dish first, then along the queue you can pick the tempura to pair with your meal. The food was great, even though they got our order wrong. Service was good, but the queue was long and slow. If you’re coming to the flower gardens nearby, this place is worth waiting for.
Nigel P — Google review
Perfect place to grab a bite before or after visiting Shikisai-no-oka. Udon is made in-house using Biei wheat and has a chewy, springy texture. The menu is simple with a small variety of flavours, but all are delicious and there's also a tempura bar to pick up extras to go with your meal. It's a typical cafeteria style self-service restaurant but simple and easy to enjoy. A great perk about dining here is that you can validate your parking ticket to get free parking for the day.
Bent Z — Google review
Fairly decent udon that claims to use their own wheat grown locally to handmake their udon inhouse. Reimburses parking fee, quite tasty overall. The cold udon noodle has great texture.
Norman C — Google review
Convenient udon restaurant right next to the flower attraction. You pick your udon base, then get to add some toppings like fried chicken or beancurd or fried crab legs. English menus are available. Udon is really tasty and chewy, especially the cold ones.
Alvin P — Google review
Tasty broth and springy udon. Pick your own tempura and pay. Lots of seating and plenty of parking. Parking is free for customers of the restaurant.
Richard Y — Google review
Tasty Udon place at the attraction. Order your basic udon either hot or cold then proceed to add on additional tempura. Nice food.

Free parking if you dine in the restaurant! Card acceptable. The tempura add in’s are extra pricing, but the udon broth was clear and flavorful. Great dine in option after the flower fields!

焼肉処千之月 is a cozy yakiniku restaurant located conveniently just a 5-minute walk from the JR station. The menu offers a limited but delicious selection of beef cuts, with the jyo-karubi (short rib) and Gyutan (tongue) shio being standout choices. The restaurant's small size creates an intimate dining experience with friendly and accommodating service.
Beef is great. Don’t miss it! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the staff are attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommended for a satisfying Yakiniku experience.

Service was good, owner speak english and has english menu. Meat parts selection (beef, pork and lamb) are limited. Kimchi set is good and have korean bimbimpak and cold noodles. Restaurant is small with 6 tables and bench seating. This is an ala carte yakiniku restaurant, recommended if you are around this area. Plenty parking space available outside the restaurant.

Happy Yakiniku Surprise at Biei Randomly searched on google for Yakiniku and found this gem. The restaurant serves charco grilled Yakiniku which is far better than gas grilling. The Short Rib meat itself is great can tell from the marbling and cutting of it. However, the pork can be improved by cutting in slice then cube when serving. Service is a bit slow as it is served by a couple, but if you are not time sensitive, that will be a good spot for you to enjoy.

I was looking for dinner options in Biei past 20:00 on a summer night, and there weren't many except this yakiniku spot run by a couple. It seemed to attract Korean patrons because of the kimchi and other Korean dishes that they serve. Price is high to me, but food was good. I liked the charcoal grill. Of course my clothes and hair were smelly afterwards. They didn't offer any bins or plastic bags. Credit card/Apple Pay accepted. No wifi.
Shmiley C — Google review
They had a full house for Saturday dinner, so we made a reservation for dinner the next day. Not a huge selection of beef cuts on the menu, but their jyo-karubi (short rib) was so delicious we had several repeat orders. Gyutan (tongue) shio is also worth mentioning. Fruit ice-lollies were a nice sweet finish to a good dinner. It was raining when we finished, and the owners were so kind to offer us umbrellas to get back to our hotel. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Nestled in the charming town of Biei, Koguma Group Asahikawa Ramen offers a delightful culinary experience for ramen enthusiasts. On my first visit, I indulged in their Spicy Miso Katsu Ramen, which was crafted upon request despite not being on the menu. The spice level was just right for the season! My companion opted for the Soy Sauce Charshu Men, featuring tender and flavorful char siu that complemented its rich broth beautifully.
Their signature ramen is value for money, the portion is very generous and most importantly, one of the best ramen I have ever tasted

Surprisingly yum! Youngsters there and some old people school children mixed crowd. Nice broth. Comfort food. On point. Noodles are fine.

Was full with one spot left that is the traditional sitting type without chair. My mum can't sit there and need a chair instead. Chef told us to go out by doing the wide swing gesture with his hands aggressively. When asked if she can sit on a chair on the counter (there was a free spot), and the rest of us sit away on the original spot, chef just said no and asks us to go out anyway.

(Translated by Google) First visit. I had the Spicy Miso Katsu Ramen and the Soy Sauce Charshu Men. Spicy miso cutlet ramen isn't on the menu, but when I asked for it, they made it for me 😊 Spicy miso is just the right amount of spiciness, perfect for this time of year❗️ The soy sauce char siu men also has a thick char siu, but it's soft and delicious. Both the spicy miso and soy sauce were delicious as the noodles were mixed with the soup. I'm also interested in other ramen, so I'll be returning. Farm Tomita is a renowned flower farm in Japan, particularly famous for its vast lavender fields. The farm offers visitors the chance to explore beautiful lavender plants and enjoy the scenic landscapes of Furano and Biei area. Additionally, visitors can indulge in lavender-infused treats such as ice cream and other local specialties available at the farm's shop. The farm also produces its own lavender extract, which is used to create their popular Lavender Soft Cream, offering a delightful taste with a refreshing aroma.
This is a beautiful scenic spot to enjoy seasonal flowers. The farm is large, and each area has its own vibrant color theme—purple lavender, bright red, sunny yellow, soft pink, and many other shades. It’s relaxing to walk around and take in the views from different angles, each corner offering a new photo opportunity. Across the farm, there are several souvenir shops and dessert stalls, with lavender ice cream being a highlight. We visited in August when many tour buses were here, but the space is wide enough that it didn’t feel too crowded inside. It’s an easy place to spend an hour or two enjoying nature, tasting local treats, and picking up gifts to bring home. We really enjoy the fresh green and orange melons as well as lavender icecream.
Pechaporn P — Google review
Farm Tomita in Furano is one of Hokkaidō’s most beautiful flower spots. In summer, the fields turn into waves of purple lavender, mixed with colorful flower rows that look like a painting. Walking through the gardens is relaxing, and the views of the fields with mountains in the background are stunning. Don’t miss the lavender soft cream—it’s fragrant and refreshing on a warm day. Entry is free, and you can also shop for lavender products like perfumes and soaps to take home. A must-visit if you travel to Furano in July or August.
Chalermchon S — Google review
A beautiful park you can view the scenery for free! We went in mid-September and there are lots of flowers to view. No lavenders as it is already past-season (I believe they bloom from June-August). There is a lovely lavender-themed gift shop and some delicious soft-serve ice cream, which comes in lavender and melon flavors.🍦
Jasmine W — Google review
🌸 A Living Masterpiece of Color and Fragrance Farm Tomita is nothing short of breathtaking—a true wonderland where nature and artistry blend seamlessly. The iconic lavender fields, stretching endlessly in waves of purple, are the crown jewel of the farm. When the breeze flows across, the entire hillside dances with lavender fragrance, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. It’s not just a visual delight but also a sensory journey that stays with you long after you leave. ⸻ 🌼 More Than Lavender – A Symphony of Flowers What makes Farm Tomita truly remarkable is that it’s not limited to lavender alone. The farm carefully cultivates a wide variety of seasonal flowers, painting the landscape in ever-changing patterns of color. Stripes of scarlet poppies, golden marigolds, snowy baby’s breath, and vibrant cosmos form breathtaking “rainbow fields” that look like a living painting under the Hokkaido sky. Each section feels like stepping into a different garden, each with its own charm and beauty. ⸻ 🌿 A Perfect Blend of Tradition and Care Farm Tomita doesn’t just showcase flowers—it represents decades of dedication to preserving and celebrating Hokkaido’s floral heritage. Walking through its fields, you can sense the meticulous care behind every bloom. The farm also offers unique lavender-based products—perfumes, essential oils, soaps, and even lavender ice cream—allowing visitors to take home a piece of this floral paradise. ⸻ 🌞 A Place to Slow Down and Feel Happiness Above all, Farm Tomita gives visitors something priceless: a sense of joy and peace. Whether it’s gazing at endless rows of lavender, enjoying the sweet fragrance in the air, or simply standing still to admire the vastness of colors, the farm reminds us how magical nature can be. It is not only a feast for the eyes but also nourishment for the soul. ⸻ ✨ In short: Farm Tomita is a place where flowers speak the language of beauty, harmony, and happiness—a destination that leaves every visitor inspired and enchanted.

It was my first time visiting a well-maintained lavender field, and being surrounded by the fragrant purple blossoms was both magical and fascinating—visually and aromatically. Purple is a rare color in nature; when you think about it, it’s actually not that easy to find naturally occurring purple around us. Here, you can also try lavender products like soaps, air fresheners, and even ice cream. As for the lavender ice cream… how should I put it? It’s not that it tasted bad, but it definitely felt a bit unusual. Let’s just say that until that moment, I had never imagined what fabric softener with lavender scent might taste like.
Johnny K — Google review
Visited on 29 Sep 2025 and didn't expect to see so many beautiful flowers here in autumn. There are far fewer crowds compared to spring and summer, allowing you to really enjoy the flower field. Recommend visiting in late September or early October if you're looking to avoid the heat and crowds.
Christo A — Google review
The ice cream there was exceptionally good. It had a unique taste of lavender. There was a souvenir shop with lots of souvenir for you to choose from to buy for your friends and family members. There was also a lot of places for you to take pictures of the colorful flowers. There is no need to buy tickets and you don't have to wait although there is a lot of people.

This place is okay…. We thought it’s a must visit but it really isn’t, unless u have a lot of time and u are in the area then i guess might as well? Maybe cos we visited when it was autumn and there weren’t much colours, just a lot of people everywhere from the tour buses. The melon is good and super juicy, and the melon bun is not bad, but do not get the ice cream!! Extremely artificial it’s like eating soap (both the melon and lavender flavour were bad).

The Tokachidake Observatory is a lookout point offering breathtaking views of the active volcano, Mt. Tokachi, and the snow-capped mountain ranges surrounding it. The area is renowned for its red foliage during autumn, which provides an awe-inspiring sight despite occasional showers and strong winds. Visitors are advised to dress warmly as temperatures can drop significantly.
We visited in early October, when the Autumn leaves were stunning. The views of the valley and up towards the peak were both outstanding. You wouldn't want to go if all you could see were clouds. It hadn't been perfect weather that day, yet still the car park was busy. It's a very popular place, not least because even with a short walk we could see the crater of the volcano and numerous steam jets coming out of the side of the mountain. Incredible!! The information centre is fascinating, with general information about volcanoes as well as lots of details about this one and its place in the geology and ecosystem of the area. It's a very worthwhile trip, if the weather is right.

Visited early of May 2025. Google map show that the road was closed and it direct me use another road which it took 45-50 minutes. It lucky that i try go check the “closed road” and i found put the road is opened! It only took 10minutes drive from the waterfall sightseeing place. Parking is free and the view is amazing.

Takachidake has an open carpark with access to washroom and vending machines as a pit stop, but its also a place many locals drive their 4WD and vans up and camp out of their cars with lawn chairs and all to enjoy the presence and air of nature. Trekking to the volcano crater is possible but hard so its not for the elderly or individuals that can't walk on uneven and loose gravel. If you are driving and have time to spare, do spend a cooling afternoon hiking up "The Roof of Hokkaido"! Arigatogozaimatsu!

I visited Mt. Tokachidake on October 3, 2025, hoping to catch the beautiful autumn foliage of Biei. The majestic and mysterious scenery lived up to its reputation, but a couple of things are essential if you're planning a hike. First, proper hiking boots are a must. The trail is covered in rocky fields of various sizes right from the start. Also, be aware that this is brown bear country, so I strongly recommend attaching a bear bell to your pack as a wise precaution. The trail entrance is bustling with tourists, but the crowds thin out considerably just a little way up, allowing for a peaceful trek. My goal was to reach the shelter, but as 4 PM approached, dark clouds suddenly rolled in. For safety, I reluctantly had to turn back without reaching the summit. It was a real shame that I couldn't witness the crater of the active volcano spewing its cloud-like smoke up close. However, the view from a distance was more than enough to feel the raw power and awe of nature. That mysterious and beautiful sight has already made me promise myself a return trip. Around 4 PM on the Thursday I visited, there were very few people ascending or descending, allowing me to fully experience the serene mountain. I definitely want to come back on a clear day and conquer the summit. P.S. As you can see from my attached activity log, my hike for the day clocked in at 3.37 miles with an elevation gain of 1,329 ft. This is a challenging and rewarding climb, not just a casual walk, so come prepared! Photos attached.

If youre here for the hiking early in the morning, youre bound to see the parking lot super filled Its crazy of me to even hike with a running shoe, no stick no hiking boots all the way to the top of the volcano. The view up there is amazing, tiring but fun(my leg died next day :( )
Newbie G — Google review
This observatory is just at the parking lot and it’s a perfect spot to enjoy sunset when the weather is good. (I visited on a cloudy day) If you have time, you can follow the trail and walk up to mount tokachidake (about 2-3 km one way)

We visit just at the right time. Autumn at it fiery, golden, crimson.

Very good view of the snow-capped Tokachidake mountain ranges. I came here in autumn and encountered raining ice (see video of car in parking lot). Do wear enough clothes to protect against the cold. Besides the parking lot, there is a small house with a food and drink stall (very limited stuff), vending machine, toilets and explanations on how Tokachidake was formed, earthquakes and other information. Good place to take a rest and have a hot beverage.

Biei Shrine is a highly ornate Shinto shrine located in serene, modern gardens, believed to bring good fortune in love. It is considered one of Hokkaido's three major power spots and is often visited by tourists. The shrine honors the deities Amaterasu Omikami and Izanagi no Kami, with its main attractions being the striking vermilion gate and the enchanting main shrine building adorned with charming heart-shaped decorations.
Biei Shrine, located in the charming town of Biei, is a peaceful shrine surrounded by nature. Known for its traditional Shinto architecture, the shrine offers a glimpse into Japan’s cultural heritage and provides a quiet retreat from the town’s scenic landscapes. Visitors can stroll through the shrine grounds, often decorated with seasonal flowers or blanketed in snow during winter, which adds to its serene atmosphere. Many people come here to pray, make wishes, or simply enjoy the tranquil setting. Biei Shrine is a lovely place to visit for those interested in local culture and beautiful surroundings. Aside from that, if you collect goshuin and o-mikuji then don't miss visiting this shrine.

It’s not a big place but the shrine itself is definitely quite grand. Lovely and peaceful vibe with plenty of charms to purchase!
J N — Google review
It wasn’t open when we arrived around 2pm on a Thursday, but you can still enjoy a visit to the exterior and admire the unique architecture. This very special shrine features lots of heart shapes throughout the building. On-site parking is available, making it convenient to stop by and explore at your own pace.

Went on a Klook tour for this and it's very eye opening. Didn't do much research for this shrine because I thought we wont be getting off the bus for this attraction but glad we did went down to have a walk around this place. I went to google and research about this place after when I'm back and found out that "visitors that can find the heart marks hidden around the shine are said to become lucky in love. " I didn't know about this but if any of you did manage to found any heart marking please take photo and leave a review here. Would definitely love to go again and find one with my husband.

Family restaurant
Family Restaurant Daimaru is a laid-back eatery with a simple ambiance that offers a variety of traditional dishes, such as ramen and udon. Despite the modest setting, the restaurant attracts both locals and tourists, often leading to a wait during peak hours. However, once seated, the service is quick and efficient with an English-translated menu available for easy ordering.
Certainly. Here’s a succinct and professional Google review you can use: ⸻ A hidden gem in Biei – this family-run restaurant served the best meal we’ve had in Hokkaido so far. Wholesome, home-cooked Japanese dishes Excellent value and a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended.
Meredith H — Google review
Local restaurant in Biei. Well known with home made decoration style with local Biei foods, like mother hands do it when you were young. Easy to access. There was free parking lot nearby, just a few walk to entrance door. There were table sit on the floor in Japanese style. Warm welcome with loud Japanese welcome style. All menus made from local ingredients, esp. Biei pork, one of the most famous pork in Japan. Vegetables were fresh. Tonkatsu, fried pork cutlet, was highly recommend menu. Thick pork cutlet fried with crunchy bread flour. Pork fried with ginger in Japanese style was nice and recommend. Potato fried was good. Rice with curry was nice and have to try. Kid menu was cute and well nutritions. Service was very good in Japanese style. Feel like visit friend's home for dining. Staffs could communicate in English very well. Highly recommend to everyone visit Furano or Biei. Lunch time must try here. Good for little children family too.

It’s a nice-sized restaurant — not too big, not too small — with Japanese-style seating. The food was super delicious, and the portions were huge! The best part is, it’s not expensive at all. I had lunch here and was so full I didn’t even need dinner. There’s free parking, and you can order easily through a QR code, which is really convenient for foreigners. The restaurant has been around for quite a while, and honestly, if I had to rate it out of 10, I’d give it a solid 10/10!
Indira J — Google review
Food: It is worth to stop by and try Daimaru's Katsu Curry. Portion is exceptionally worthwhile for a guy if you order the large Katsu Curry. Katsu was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Service: Nothing short of Japanese service where you're greeted with politeness. Food serving time was rather quick given that we stop by during peak lunch crowd on a weekend. Atmosphere: Feels very homely and café-like but the only downside is that, like any other Japanese house or building, the space is rather constraining. Beware of coming during lunch crowd and weekends as you are likely to wait outside due to full house.

Tonkatsu fried pork and curry are the best, delicious, crispy, lightly crispy, soft inside. The shop has a local atmosphere that touches true Japan.

Arrived to a queue. People sitting outside waiting for a table. Finally got a seat upstairs where shoes had to be removed and seats were on the floor. Cosy family restaurant. Curry was nice and the katsu nicely fried. Churros was special and the blue pond drink too.

Nestled atop a hill, Shinei-no-Oka Observatory Park is a serene haven that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Asahikawa region. This picturesque park comes alive in spring with vibrant flower beds adorned with tulips and other seasonal blooms, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls, delightful picnics, and capturing stunning photographs. Accessible via rental bicycle or taxi from Biei Station, cycling is highly recommended to fully embrace the refreshing air and gentle breezes of Biei.
I walked there from Miyama togue. It’s very unique experience to just walking by myself on a country side by the fields. There was a cafe, soft ice-cream and vending machine for drink there but they were close when I got there around 5 or 5:30pm. It’s not really a ‘park’ but more an observatory. I saw families driving there with kids. I didn’t stay too long as I walked another hour to the Biei station to catch the train!

Seeing the fields from the high point. Although it’s not the harvest season and it is rainy, it would be nice to visit in a sunny. The café there sells very tasty strawberry milk shake made with biei milk & ice cream. I was really impressed.

Worth a stop if you are nearby. There are informative boards about the history of farming industry in this area. Additionally, there’s an ice cream store and a cozy coffee roastery where you can take a relaxing break and enjoy some treats before continuing your journey.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Biei, Hokkaido, the Lone Christmas Tree stands as a stunning tourist attraction amidst a serene snow-covered field. This iconic tree draws visitors from far and wide, particularly during winter when its beauty is accentuated by the surrounding white blanket of snow. While it’s an enchanting spot for photography enthusiasts, be prepared for crowds—especially if you arrive later in the day. Early morning visits before 9 am are ideal for those seeking a quieter experience.
Stunning View for this lonely Christmas tree. it has a wide angle to take photo. On self drive, you have to stop by road side and walk to camera spot.
Liew F — Google review
The Christmas tree in Biei is beautiful, but getting there can be a bit tricky. Taxis are scarce, and while you can take a bus, the schedule isn’t frequent, plus you’ll need to walk about 30 minutes. I recommend taking a taxi if you can find one. There were quite a few tourists when I visited, but the photos turned out nice despite the crowd.

Super crowded but no worry, you will find a spot to take a shot there after 5mins. No need to queue up.

We went after the sun had set during summer time. There was only 1 other car in front of us who stopped for a photo op. We think it looks more impressive during wintertime. Or maybe if the sun is behind the tree. It's a drive pass experience. There is no space to stop and get out to take a photo. There are many signs to say it is private property, and there are surveillance cameras. We saw a loud speaker but were not sure if it worked or not to remind people not to step into their property.

Kanno Farm, located between Biei and Kamifurano along National Route 237 in Hokkaido, is a picturesque flower and vegetable farm. With over 30 types of flowers on display from mid-June to mid-October, including lavender, clematis, and salvia, the farm offers stunning views across its rolling landscape. The vibrant blooms create a colorful backdrop for photography enthusiasts. Visitors can also sample fresh produce such as corn and potatoes directly from the farm.
Kanno Farm is located on a hill slope besides National Route 237. It has ample car parks. Whereas Farm Tomita and Shikisai-no-Oka are often crowded with tourists arriving in tour coaches, Kanno Farm is less commercialised and therefore, less crowded. Although Kanno Farm is not big, it has rolling hill slopes of lavender and other flowering plants. Paths lead up to the hill top where visitors can enjoy a downhill view of the flowering garden. There is a small retail and refreshment area in a building besides the car park. My wife and I visited Kanno Farm in July as part of other attractions in Biei. We enjoyed the less busy environment and were able to better appreciate the flowers.

Nice place. Facility is great. The summer flowers are planted in but not in full bloom yet. Nevertheless still worth a stop.

I visited this place thanks to the rental bicycle shop lady who told me about it. It is a small but beautiful place, free entrance and delicious hot potato with butter to taste (that's what I tried) but they have other food such as corn to try.
Dahédrey P — Google review
(Plz be aware)It was a beautiful farm, we were on the way towards the top point which we thought that was an observation desk. We took the left side trail trying to make a big round of the farm. Somehow in the middle we got yelled out by a Japanese(later we learned he is the farm owner). He claimed that we stepped into a preserve area and he needed to disinfect the entire area because our shoes had bacteria. He wanted to fine us ¥10000. He said if you didn’t pay, he’d called the police. We paid because we wanted to move on our trip.
J S — Google review
While looking back on my trip around Northeast Asia over the past few weeks, I came across something pretty shocking in the reviews. Apparently, someone was fined 10,000Yen (about $65) for stepping into a restricted area — and there were quite a few similar stories too. I actually saw the rude employee(or the owner) at that same place yelling, pointing, and almost charging at my friend. It was honestly way over the line. Part of me wondered if it happened because we were Southeast Asian — maybe it was even a bit of discrimination. There was also a small fence with a path beyond it, but no warning signs anywhere. I mean, people make mistakes — and it’s not hard to imagine someone with a disability, a kid, or even a dog accidentally stepping over such a low fence. Is it really fair to fine people like that when there aren’t even any warning signs? If this has happened multiple times already, there are plenty of simple fixes — raise the fence, put up signs, whatever. Instead, it feels like they’d rather collect 10,000 yen from unlucky visitors. I really hope the owner thinks about whether it’s smarter to keep doing that or to make the place more welcoming for tourists. Either way, we’ll never go there again — and we definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone around us.
Odd I — Google review
Saw this beautiful farm while on my way to Asahidake Ropeway. Beautiful flowers with various colour, definitely a must visit to snap photos. No charges to enter but will be good to buy a hot coffee or potato bread or cider to support the farm.

Such a beautiful farm. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the area. It is not too large, but a decent size, so you can really enjoy the place without spending far too much time. There is a nice little shop and restaurant. The potato dishes are great!

Scenic spot
Nestled atop a picturesque hill, the Seven Stars Tree is an iconic oak that has captured the hearts of many since 1976. This solitary tree offers stunning panoramic views of Patchwork Road, making it a must-visit spot for nature lovers and photographers alike. Originally known as Kitaei-no-Ippon Ki, its fame skyrocketed when it was featured on the packaging for Seven Stars cigarettes by Japan Tobacco.
This is the tree that gained popularity as a tourist attraction after being featured in Japan Tobacco’s ‘Seven Stars’ advertisement in 1976. However, the famous birch tree-lined road of Patchwork Road was completely cut down in January 2025 due to the disruptive behaviour of both Chinese and domestic tourists. I visited in December 2024.

It is a tree. Its claim to fame is having been featured on a cigarette packaging about 50 years ago. If you were not a smoker then, you would not appreciate the reference. You can however, admire its age and the shade it provides on a hot summer day, being one of the only publicly accessible trees in the farmland. There is free parking across the road, very popular with tourists. It will probably be a 5 min pitstop to check out, on your way to other more interactive attractions

The Seven Stars Tree in Biei is an iconic sight known for its picturesque beauty, or fukei. This lone oak tree stands proudly in the middle of vast fields, creating a stunning backdrop that has made it a favorite photo spot for visitors. It gained national fame after appearing in a popular tobacco commercial for Seven Stars cigarettes, which is how it earned its name. Surrounded by Biei’s rolling hills and colorful fields, the Seven Stars Tree captures the serene, open landscape that defines the area’s charm. Although I visited Seven Stars Tree in winter, it still possesses its charm even if it doesn't have its beautiful lush green leaves.

Kame Tsuru is a popular restaurant in Biei known for its high-quality Japanese cuisine. It offers excellent lunch and dinner sets, with delicious options such as sashimi and grilled pork shoulder. The restaurant is non-smoking, making it a great choice for those sensitive to cigarette smoke. During peak seasons, it can get quite busy, so visiting early is advisable. Despite potential language barriers, the staff are patient and accommodating, using translation apps to assist non-Japanese speakers.
One of my favorite meals. We did it family style to try as many things as we could. Everything was packed with flavor and melted in your mouth. You can tell all the love put in to this food. Get there early or better yet make a reservation.

Our Airbnb host said this is the best resturant in town and we're inclined to agree. It's a small unassuming resturant that packs a ton of flavor into their dishes. Each dish is served as a set - with pickled vegetables, rice, miso soup and a main protein. We had two specials (Pork Shoulder and Fried Oysters). Both were absolutely delicious - I never knew either could be so tender. I'd highly recommend this resturant. I'd also say try the meat without it being fried. It's fantastic on its own. Make sure to get in before 12:00pm, it opens at 11:30am, as it gets packed quick.

Caferest Ki no Ii nakama is a cozy and clean restaurant with a warm decor, currently only open for lunch in mid-November. It's recommended to check their hours if you're interested in afternoon tea or dinner. The place offers great food, particularly the misokatsu, and has English menus available. Visitors have praised the excellent food, especially highlighting the delicious corn.
Part of our private tour trip and we were recommended to try this restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh ingredients and the amazing volcanic soil-grown vegetables that the menu offers. We ordered a pasta dish, pizza and gratin and the food is nothing fancy or eye-candy. It was down to earth and very enjoyable meal and you can taste the natural sweetness of some ingredients. Its hard to explain it, but worth trying! Price is very reasonable, and probably about 9 - 10 tables capable of seating 2-5 people per table. Restaurant is kid friendly, offering a baby chair and utensils. IG: chris.kr80s

Restaurant bi.ble is a charming French restaurant located in the picturesque Biei hills, offering custom-made seasonal menus that ensure fresh and delightful flavors. The restaurant's bread is particularly noteworthy, with complimentary refills available. While reservations are recommended due to its popularity, the establishment also houses a lovely boulangerie and boutique hotel. Guests can enjoy delicious pastries and bread from the bakery, making it a perfect stop for food enthusiasts traveling through Hokkaido.
A delightful gem in a roll area outside supper room, which specializes in artisanal breads, but also serves delicious multicourse meals with exquisite presentation and flavors. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!
David C — Google review
We four people arrived at the Bi Ble around 13:05, the restaurant put up in their page that no reservation is needed but the lady at the front said they will not be able to receive us even though the table was clearly available, when we inquire and told the lady that we drove three hours to especially come here she said they close at 13:30 but when we opened their page that stated lunch close at 14:30 she opted to tell us that last order was 13:30 which it was 13:09 at that time. We were contemplating just to get their bakeries to take home a Japanese couple without reservation came in and after a little exchange the staff came to the front lady which after awhile she went back into the kitchen before our eyes to tell the staffs in the kitchen something and guess what the Japanese couple was shown the table right away even thought it was 13:20 already (remember the front lady said last order was 13:30) So I decided to inquire this with the same exact staff who should the Japanese couple table and he just bluntly said the couple had reservation which I told him I had asked the couple which they said they didn’t have reservation! So we naturally felt lied to and discriminated!! I never ever reviewed this badly before but the way both front lady and the waiting staffs shown no sign of willingness to help nor compassion of us having 80 years old mother with us and wanted to treat her to a good time was quite far from Japanese hospitality and politeness we had come to love and respect!! MOST DISAPPONITED AND IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO TRY HAVE FOOD HERE MAKE A RESERVATION AND GOOD LUCK! WE WILL NEVER GIVE THEM ANY OF OUR SUPPORT!!

Googled and decided to come here for lunch without rsvp. Directions were a bit confusing for the parking lot. There's bakery on premise and picked up some goodies afterwards. The lunch prix fixe menu was pretty good. Service is so so but it's because of language barrier. It's French influence with local ingredients, good fusion dish with nice plating.

Disappointing experience. Will not visit again. Dinner started off well with a tour if the bakery, pretzels and champagne. First course was corn soup accompanied by corn bread. A loaf warm sourdough was served quickly after and it was delicious. Our expectations were heightened as the soup was really savory and highlights the essence of hokkaido produce. Next few dishes were disappointing with mediocre execution and lack of taste profile. Dishes were served hurriedly before our earlier dish is completed. No menu was presented to us. And when asked, the staff just said it was a special course. Explanations of dishes were lacking. Main dish of beef cheek was tender and delish but too salty. Plating lack aesthetics. Dessert was coconut ice cream, white wine jelly and melons. Did someone just throw all leftovers in the fridge to make a dish? I have tried both Asperges and bi.ble Whilst former has better food but both staff has something in common - lack of passion.
SY N — Google review
We had lunch there with a reservation. The overall value is quite good, especially considering the quality and presentation of the food. So the kitchen definitely did a good job. However, as others have mentioned, the service staff need much more training to match the standard of the cuisine. It feels like dining at a fine restaurant but being served by someone from a casual family restaurant, which is an obvious mismatch. If the restaurant management happens to read this, I hope you’ll recognize this issue. It’s a real pity, because the food truly deserves better service.

The back roads in this part of Hokkaido are beautiful; a great drive!

Came for lunch without reservation and they were kind enough to show us a seat. Food was delicious and executed perfectly, and we particularly enjoyed the consommé and desserts. Location and view were both beautiful. Also packed some croissants which were flaky and buttery. However service could be better, especially from both male waiters.

Blanc Rouge is a charming restaurant located in Biei, offering a delightful dining experience. The menu features delectable dishes such as beef stew, chicken simmered in cabbage, and potato gratin made with locally sourced potatoes. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Guests can enjoy their meals amidst the serene surroundings of tall trees and gentle breezes.
Found this place in the google map on the way from Biei to Sounkyo. It was very homey and delicious. The lady serving us was very helpful! We kinda ordered wrongly- didn’t know what’s the difference between ordering beef stew and rice separately. Saw “beef stew and rice” on the menu and just ordered that. I think if you order them separately, it comes in a pot! Nonetheless, super memorable. Came at 2+pm so there wasn’t any queue.

Waiting outside in the summer can be quite uncomfortable with the bugs buzzing around. But otherwise the food and service are great. Stew and soups were very tasty with a homecooked feel. Will recommend to drop in for lunch if you’re in the area.

Such a delightful cafe to stop by for lunch! Quaint decor and warm interiors greet you as you enter (swapping your shoes for slippers of course). The food might look basic but it is anything but. The flavour explosions and hearty mouthfuls rejuvenate the soul and was the recharge you were looking for when you ventured away from the bustling cities into the smaller towns of hokkaido.

Went on a weekday mid nov. Queued quite a bit in the cold. We were seated indoors. To queue, write your name/ no of pax and wait outside the restaurant. The restaurant has limited tables but the food is great. May want to call to reserve. It seems that they are not open in dec 2023. Do call to check before going.

Most gorgeous log cabin with the largest logs you will see where. The food was so nourishing and they knew what gluten was and showed the gluten free items. Truly homemade and fresh. Excited to go back.

Do not be fooled by the simple appearance of the cuisines here; Came for a hearty bowl of stew, and went away with so much more than expected. Beef stew was extremely fragrant and homely, with the chunky yet tender bits of beef to savour! Curry rice looked simple, but the gentle sweetness of the curry flowed melodiously with the unique tastiness of Biei Potatoes, blending oh so well with the soft Japanese rice. Definitely a must visit hidden gem of Biei!
Ching X — Google review
The food was okay, but the atmosphere was bad. Too many bugs and flies around and they did not turn on the AC in a super hot summer day! The beef stew set is ¥1500 which is pretty good comparing to its portion. The taste was okay.

Tucked away in the farmlands of Biei. Amazing place for a warm bowl of beef stew and potato gratin made from the specialty of Biei- Biei potatoes.

Hokusei-no-oka Observatory Park, located in Biei, Hokkaido, is a picturesque spot known for its stunning views and diverse blooms throughout the year. The pyramid-shaped observatory offers panoramic vistas of the hilly area and patchwork fields of Biei. Visitors can capture beautiful scenes of sunflowers and lavender from the observation deck, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts.
Very good view point of the surrounding. Sadly I was not here in the summer to see the flowers. Bit the view point on the valley and montain is good. There is a photo shop nearby that you must visit.

Visited on 23 June 2025. Nice view of surrounding Biei but no sight of any flower fields. Only a small patch of lavender and a slightly larger canola field was present. It was still a pleasant visit with good views.

Visited during summer and was a nice place to walk off around with the kids. The views of the surrounding "patchwork" fields was also great, viewed from the observatory. Also has some souvenir shops and a few spots to pick up a quick bite. Toilets are also there. It was quite busy when we went with lots of tourists. Recommended.

A good pitstop from biei to asahikawa (15km or so to the town) . You will have to climb to level 2 of the deck to see a paranoma view of the area. The entry is free and car-parking is free too. The park itself has walking routes, but i did not attempt to walk. So im not sure of the quality of walk in the area. There are a few shops opposite the carpark. The shops are closing when we reached around 1645hrs and closed by 1700hrs. Toilets are available here, but kinda of smelly.

Hokusei Slope observatory is in the same area as Biei's famous trees, especially the Ken and Mary tree. If you're in the area it's well worth a stop. It has great views across Biei and the valley to Tokachi Dake. There's parking, toilets and yatai food stalls. Make sure Google maps takes you to the top parking area not the bottom.

Biei Station is a charming European-style station built with local specialty Meiqi stone. The station is adorned with beautiful flowers and a distinctive green-top small bell tower with clear signposts. Visitors can find travel-related information at the Four Seasons Intelligence Hall located nearby, as well as luggage storage and bicycle rental services at the supermarket opposite the station.
Biei Station is a charming railway station with a unique brick facade that adds character to this small town’s atmosphere. It’s a gateway for travelers visiting Biei’s beautiful landscapes, and the station itself has become a bit of a landmark and is even considered as one of the attractions of the town. Biei Station was also featured as a filming location in the popular Japanese series First Love, adding to its appeal for fans of the show. Simple but full of charm, Biei Station is a welcoming spot for visitors exploring the scenic wonders of Biei.

A very small station serving quite a high tourist number. There is a small waiting room which is heated, a welcome feature for the cold winter, which is -6 celcius now. There is no stall that sell food and shops close early outside. Washroom is located outside the building. Oh, i don't think there is any locker service. However, the tourist centre 60m away does have the facility.
KH W — Google review
Lovely station with waiting area.
Musho P — Google review
the setting of this train station is a bit strange. The bus stops are not located in front of the train station. The bus going to the airport is on the northern side requiring passengers to take an elevator to the other side of the building. The bus stop to the Blue Pond is located one street in front of the train station, near the Asahikawa Bank. Both bus stops are not directly accessible. While the bus service here at Biei is infrequent, that might bring some hassle to the foreign tourists who carry some heavy luggages..
JCC F — Google review
Well, it is a pretty little train station. However, to get to platform 2for trains toward the Asahikawa direction, one has to take the stairs and cross a bridge over the railroads. For passengers with heavy luggage, its not an easy thing, and I wonder what happens to wheelchair access. I've visited Biei several times and really wish they will make this improvement.

This is a small JR station on the Furano Line in a town that is also a famous tourist destination representing Hokkaido. There is one ticket gate and one station attendant on duty. There is a public restroom on the left as you exit the station. Small shops and restaurants line the area in front of the station, as well as stylish public facilities and bicycle rentals. In the summer, the Biei Marathon is held here, and television stations often come to cover it. On the first road from the station, you will find Shirogane Onsen, the Blue Pond, Biei's roadside station Shirogane Birke, and bus stops to Asahikawa City and Furano City.

After visiting Shikisai-no-Oka, we drove to Sanai-no-Oka on the way back to Furano. Sanai-no-Oka occupies a small hill besides the road and car park. It is not a destination attraction per se but is still a nice and quiet place to enjoy the beautiful 360º panoramic views. When my wife and I visited in July, there were 2 small family groups present. Perhaps its remote location makes it conducive for drivers to break their journey here and take a rest. The atmosphere is very calming and relaxing. Although we were there in the evening and left when it was still bright, we imagined that the serene landscape and views would be quite magical at night.

Flower Land Kamifurano is a charming flower farm that offers a delightful experience for visitors. The farm features a gift store and the opportunity to purchase fresh melons, as well as a restaurant where guests can enjoy delicious meals. Additionally, there are accommodation options available on-site, including affordable dormitory and private room options with shared bathrooms. This picturesque destination is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature while enjoying various activities and amenities.
I visited Flower Land Kamifurano by electric bicycle, and it was truly one of the most peaceful and scenic places I’ve been to. The atmosphere is incredibly calm, surrounded by colorful flowers as far as the eye can see. The beautiful landscapes are so relaxing to look at, and it’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature. The staff were also very kind and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Nice farm that you can visit to look at the flowers. Their premise is quite big so, it's a nice walk in the summer. The flowers will only bloom in jul so, we were too early when we visited in may. There is a restaurant on site so, you can buy some food if you're hungry.
Kelvin C — Google review
Came in late september, still has some nice flowers but I can see about >50% of the fields are now past their prime. Still quite nice to walk around, small one story observatory. Small nice shop to purchase anything if needed.

This tourist attraction is definitely an Instagramable must-visit for those who love flowers and colourful flowers at that - with the added bonus, for the more observant visitors, a backdrop of Mount Tokachi volcano that was billowing today when I visited this attraction this afternoon.

Great place. Kamifurano. There is a great car park, so driving here is no problem. This place is great, beautiful thing. Like an ocean of flower 🌹🌺🌹🌺🌹🌺🌹🌺🌹🌺🌹🌺🌹🌺. It has sunflowers, most iconic flowers, and many more that comes in different colours and sizes and styles. It is just soooooooooooooio beautiful
Superuser L — Google review
Flower Land Kamifurano has expansive fields of different flowering plants. The fields are separated by walking paths. Because each field occupies a big area, it does not feel crowded and visitors can pose and take photographs anywhere along the perimeter of each field. Looking eastwards, Mount Tokachi and Daisetsuzan National Park are in the background, providing a picture-perfect postcard. When my wife and I were there in July, the flower blooms were fresh despite the summer heat. There were a few wedding couples present having their photographs taken. The different flower fields provided many opportunities for nice photographs. Walking downhill from the main entrance, there is an elevated and sheltered observation wooden deck which provides an overall view of the flower fields. A few benches on the deck provide rest to those who need it. At the end of our visit, we browsed the merchandise in the retail shop and enjoyed cut melon fruit which was very sweet and refreshing. We had a wonderful time enjoying the flower fields without the crowds. Best of all, Flower Land Kamifurano provides free entry! Highly recommended for a visit.

Tomita Melon House is a must-visit stop surrounded by Hokkaido's beautiful nature. As you step into the store, you'll be captivated by their glass cases filled with melons. They offer an array of melon-based treats including ice cream, bread, juice, and other desserts. The exquisite melon ice cream is a favorite among visitors. While the prices may seem high compared to supermarkets, the top-notch quality justifies it.
Having visited Tomita Melon House twice, I can confidently say it’s a place that perfectly captures the taste and charm of Hokkaido summers. Located just next to the iconic Farm Tomita, this spot has become a favorite destination for melon lovers like me. On both visits, the freshly sliced Furano melons stole the show. The melons here are incredibly sweet, juicy, and perfectly ripe—each slice feels like a celebration of Hokkaido’s rich agricultural bounty. Whether you enjoy them by the slice, half, or whole, the quality is consistently excellent. The melon-infused treats are another highlight. I tried the melon soft serve on my first visit, and it was so good I had to have it again the second time! Creamy and delicately sweet, it’s the perfect summer indulgence. On my second trip, I explored more of their offerings, like the melon smoothie and their famous melon bread (melon pan). The bread’s soft texture and luscious melon-flavored filling made it unforgettable. What makes Tomita Melon House special isn’t just the food—it’s the experience. Sitting on the wooden deck with a slice of melon or a dessert in hand, gazing at the breathtaking Tokachidake mountain range, is an unbeatable way to relax and soak in the natural beauty of Hokkaido.
Neil A — Google review
The melon soft serve was creamy and pleasant, though perhaps not as intensely flavourful as expected. The melon juice was refreshing and naturally sweet. The outdoor seating and spacious layout make it ideal for families and tour groups. While it’s clearly geared towards tourists, it’s still a fun and photogenic stop on a sunny day, especially during peak melon season.

Good rest/meal area from the sweltering heat of 40 degrees, weather that I least expected. This Melon House is a collection of eating areas which include obviously the melon, bakery, pizza and burgers/curry rice. Next door to Farm Tomita, but IMHO has sweeter and juicier melons than Tomita. The melon bun is 10/10 with a crusty exterior like a bolo bun but with the sweet natural melon cream. The wagyu beef curry is outstanding.
Ian C — Google review
The best melon I have ever tried. It is delicious. They come in different serves, such as plain melon, orange melon plus green melon, melon plus ice cream, ice cream melon, smoothie melon, melon soft drinks, pizza with melon, melon flavoured ice cream, melon milkshake and much much much much more.

Easily the best melons I’ve had in my life. Incredibly sweet and juicy. Also the most expensive in my life at 1,500 Yen for 2 slices (1 red and 1 green). Still definitely worth a try. The Melon Bun with Red Melon Cream was very good too, excellent bun texture (like a Hong Kong pineapple bun), though the filling could have been better distributed throughout the bun. I love the curry soup with rice! Tonkatsu was cooked very well, ebi was fresh and delicious. Price is very reasonable.

Shrimp Curry was delicious, batter was crispy, prawn was fresh and flavourful, and the curry was delicious. Curry Udon was slightly disappointing, curry was starchy, tasted just 'hot' and was not that good. Cheese was good but was quite a small amount. Tonkatsu served with the curry udon was not bad, the pork was quite thin though.
T. W — Google review
I ordered their Biei curry udon, oven-baked style. Curry tasted okay and the toppings were well cooked. But the amount of curry sauce was too little, leaving some udon noodles to be consumed without enough curry sauce. I would rather try the other regular Biei curry udon (dipping style) if I visit this place again later. And if visiting, I’d recommend trying out Biei milk that they have as well, which I didn’t realize that they had at the time. It is conveniently located close to the train station.

(Translated by Google) I only ate during the bus tour. You have to cross the overpass next to the station (the overpass smells...). I had the curry udon I'd reserved in advance, and it was noticeably made with fresh ingredients. However, it didn't quite suit my taste. The shrimp tempura was large and decent. I liked that it came with milk. The staff, who appeared to be international students, were very attentive and helpful. I think they accept credit cards, but when I went, they only accepted cash. It was so-so in many ways.

What an enjoyable and memorable lunch we had at Ferme La Terre in Biei! Located on a hilltop with an expansive landscaped garden, customers can enjoy the fresh air and panoramic views before stepping indoors for their meals. Inside, the space has the restaurant on one side, and a bakery on the other. The newly opened bakery has the most impressive offering of artisanal bread, pastries, cakes, cookies, jams, puddings, etc. My wife and I ordered their grilled beef lunch set and grilled salmon lunch set. Both items were well prepared and delicious. Staff were friendly, responsive and can converse in English. After our lunch, we browsed the bakery and bought different versions of their speciality "macaron-like" sandwiches as well as their artisanal jams. We took the opportunity to enjoy their outdoors which is very relaxing and invigorating. An ice cream hut in the garden provides soft-served ice cream - a particular attraction to children playing in the garden. A unique, well planned and a very nice place indeed!

I’d give three stars for the food and two stars for the surrounding environment, making it a five-star experience overall. When I made the reservation, I thought it was just a popular dessert shop that also offered a lunch menu. But when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find it set in a beautiful natural environment. Be sure to take a short walk after your meal to burn some calories and enjoy the wonderful scenery!

Italian cafe Abete is a cozy, small family-run restaurant that offers authentic Italian cuisine in Hokkaido. The homemade yeast dough used for their pizzas is made with a well-balanced texture and flavor, baked fragrantly in a handmade wood-fired kiln. They also serve handmade pasta, dolce, and Italian bio wine kneaded with natural eggs from Biei wheat and whole grain flour.
A small cozy restaurant with only 10 seats. We were lucky to get a table without reservation. The lady told us the service would be slow but we didnt have to wait for our food that long. Their homemade pasta is to die for, even thought I do not like the meatball. We ordered their special pizza which is crab cream pizza, taste like gratin but really tasty. Procuitto is nice but Salami comes with paper skin, LOL.

I would give an extra star for effort. Food is nice enough but it's not Italian Italian. Carbonara was cream based with no yolks, Bolognese sauce too dry and fine. Pizza bases are crisp. The margarita was pretty good but the topping of the marinara was too dry. Very child friendly.

Cozy little Italian restaurant in the middle of this beautiful town. The food was not bad, the pizzas were okay, the dough was crunchy but the edges were a bit too thick. The ambience was nice, but the owner didn’t seem very welcoming. A bit disappointing for the price.

Italian restaurant
VALORE is a charming single-family restaurant that prioritizes creating a cozy atmosphere for its guests. The restaurant allows photography inside only with permission, and on weekdays, without a reservation, patrons can enjoy the pasta course. The food features local ingredients and offers good value for money. While reservations are recommended due to restrictions on entry and photography, VALORE promises beautiful food and attentive service. Guests can expect a serene ambiance and delectable dishes, including unique pasta options.

It’s really not nice when a restaurant is so far away but not maintain it’s time schedule updated. Please do that for your customers… I was looking for a diner at your place :(

(Translated by Google) I'm sure there will be some negative comments because it's a famous restaurant, but I was satisfied. I believe that basically anyone other than those who had made a reservation was prohibited from entering the premises and no photography was allowed inside. With permission, I was allowed to photograph only the food. The dishes use local ingredients, and I felt that the cost performance of this set was good. When I made a reservation for a private room over the phone about two weeks ago, I was turned away because it was full. When I made a reservation for a seat on another day and went on the same day, they said, ``Sorry, we couldn't get a private room.'' The second reservation call did not mention the private room issue. Maybe he could tell from the phone number. Because of this, please consider the seats. I felt a little moved.

(Translated by Google) We had dinner to celebrate a birthday. The food was excellent, all made with rare local ingredients. We were given detailed explanations for each dish, so it was a good experience. As stated on the website, we enjoyed ourselves for a leisurely two and a half hours. We were given permission to take photos of the food and the interior of the restaurant because it was a special occasion, but we were asked not to post these online or on social media. (Translated by Google) Enjoy a special lunch at "Barore" in Biei Town. My wife and I visited on a weekday in June 2025. The course meal, made generous use of Biei-grown asparagus, brought out the seasonal flavors to the fullest and was very satisfying. Photography is not permitted inside the restaurant, so the photo is only of the exterior, but that allows for careful savoring of the food and the time spent. Above all, time spent at Barore is slow and elegant. It is a space for adults, and children from junior high school age are allowed. It was a restaurant I would definitely like to visit again. If you're looking for high-end gourmet food in Biei Town: - For French cuisine near the station, try "Asperges" - For Italian cuisine by the Blue Pond, try "Barore" - For French cuisine near Ken and Mary's Tree, try "Vivre" These three are the best.

(Translated by Google) It was a wonderful restaurant. I was fascinated by the beautiful food while tasting the ingredients. I was only able to make a reservation for lunch, but I think 8,800 yen for that course was a bargain. There was a sign at the entrance saying that photography was not allowed, but looking at other people's posts, it seems that it was possible as long as you didn't post it on social media. I would definitely like to visit this famous Biei restaurant for dinner next time.
