I got the you pick two with an Asian sesame chicken salad and the one thing I really like from Panera, their broccoli cheddar soup. The cheesesteak, which they'd had at a Panera in Decatur a few months ago and enjoyed, wasn't as they remembered, lacking peppers almost completely and dry from relatively little aioli. I'd not had the Asian sesame chicken salad before. I did like the almonds and the wonton strips and the dressing was okay. However, the lettuce was often discolored and old looking, there were enormous cilantro stems in there (lots of soapy bites), and the chicken was also an unpleasant color and very rubbery. I mostly ate around the chicken and cilantro and yucky lettuce, but there wasn't much left that didn't fall into one of those three categories. The real kicker here is the soup though. It tasted good, maybe a little more congealed than I expected but it was delivered. But I was enjoying it with my baguette. Except about 60% of the way through, I got a weird bite that initially felt like a very large piece of onion. I covertly spit it out because 1) I don't like large pieces of onion and 2) something in the back of my head said it wasn't actually an onion. I'm glad I did, because it wound up being a large, exceedingly soggy scrap of....paper? Plastic? I can only assume it's from the bag the soup arrives in at the restaurant (as I know they don't make it in-house). That's what I hope it's from, at least -- anything else sounds much worse. It was absolutely disgusting, and upsetting. I didn't finish my soup (obviously) and I didn't want to keep eating anything else, either. My stomach was uneasy for a while after. I understand mistakes happen, but this one is pretty unacceptable to me. As the appointment progressed, they had an idea about how they could make a different cupcake based on our feedback and they went into the back and brought us out another cake to try too! They let us mix and match whatever we wanted and they even created a totally new flavor based on our requests.
